Spending the night in Brookings we decided to try a local brewery (of course) before settling in. This little brewery was just across the way and down the street from our accommodations. A quick 5 minute walk to be exact. Found down the stairs in the basement, is this little hole in the wall Lord of the Rings themed brewery. We had the King Under the Pumpkin Stout. Sweet and stout like dessert in a glass, and Hop Back Pale Ale. We also tasted Rohan Red, 3 Hunters IPA as well as Goldberry Kolsch. They have a small, but nice menu of food items available. There is a Pay It Forward list on the wall to take from or give a beer. The space is small and the owners are friendly. This is definitely a locals place. Stop in and have a pint or two, I'm sure they'll be happy to see you. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the small brewery for I had no idea that it was a LotR themed bar. I was amazed by the art work and music that drafted through the air. I had stopped at seaQuake brewery so i knew they had done a couple colabs with them that I had tasted and that were amazing! But while here I tried some of their own exclusive beer . Everything I tried was truly well crafted smooth and crisp! They had a limited food menus but the " Tooke Tacos " instantly jumped out at me . After ordering 2 , they were the most outstanding flavored pub food I have ever had , so I had to get seconds. Off the Main Street you enter into an upstairs common area of businesses that smells weird and makes you think your lost (don't freak out. Trust the process!), follow the stairs down to the amazing little hole of wonder that has super personable, helpful folks working there, some amazing regulars willing to jump in on selfies and a wall game of strategy and infuriation! Hidden gem in Brookings! New favorite addition to date night or even family outing rotation. 1st off, you walk downstairs to find a small pub, a resemblance to "The Shire Bar Killarney" out of Lord of the Rings, with Orc sword on the wall. Small but delicious rotation of beers, I loved the Rivendale saison. Then we tried the Jalepeño bread twist, delish. And the C.B.R., oh...my...lord, awesome!! This place already sold me by being a Hobbit-themed brewery, but the beer also makes this place worth a visit! Although nothing in downtown Brookings is terribly sketchy, it does have a bit of a speakeasy feel (or maybe a Hobbit cave feel?) as you have to go down the stairs and through a narrow entrance, where Misty Mountain Brewing awaits. But once you get in, it's very charming, with a couple big rustic looking tables and Middle Earth inspired decor. Staff was very helpful too. The beer selection is not huge, but everything we tried was excellent, and they have some creative combinations. We had the Blueberry Rivendell Saison (my favorite), Sea of Ruin Imperial Red, and Black Gate black rye IPA. Too bad it was summer when we visited as they didn't yet have their Imperial Pumpkin Stout -- we'll have to get back to try that! read more

The wife and I took a vacation driving from Southern California to Eugene, OR. We stopped overnight in Brookings, OR. We were thirsty and decided to give this place a try. I sampled all the beers and they were all delicious. Pippin's Porter and King Under the Mountain were my favorite. The brewery had a Lord of the Rings decor. We met the owners, Mark and Hannah. They were very friendly and hospitable. Mark was nice enough to take a photo with me. The brewery also has a delicious array of appetizers. We had a jalapeno pretzel with beer cheese sauce and nachos. I will definitely stop by again if I am ever in the area. read more

Small Hobbit sized room..few tables some chairs and a short bar. I think they had 7 beers on tap the Pippins Porter was nice. Was pretty crowded for a Wednesday. Service was efficient..they have some food manilly charcuterie plates and the like but you can go upstairs and get food from the bistro. read more

Great food and good beer. Truly the best cheese steak sandwich that I've had, and it wasn't even mine - we each had to have a taste, it was that good. I had the chicken burrito (very good, but not nearly the standout that the cheese steak was) with the Kolsch beer (very good, chose it after having a flight of four of their beers). As a Brookings Oregon resident, I can attest that Misty Mountain Taup Haus is Brookings' premier brewery and a must stop for any beer lover visiting our area. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and their entire line up of beer and ale is exceptional, everything from their blonde to the darker brews. As wonderful as all their brews are, I have to call out special attention to their imperial ale called the "Sea of Ruin". I served in the U.S Navy for eight years and have been all over the Western Pacific. I have sampled brews in the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong and Thailand to name a few places, as well as many brewed locally in the United States, and I can say emphatically that I have never tasted a brew as good as the Sea of Ruin. It is simply the BEST BEER EVER! It has a great, full bodied flavor that will please both IPA lovers and those who don't appreciate strong bitterness in a brew, as it has just the right balance. It is so good that my staff from where I worked would often declare a specific day to be a "Monday of Ruin" or a "Tuesday of Ruin", meaning that we would all gather at Misty Mountain after work to enjoy our shared camaraderie and this most exceptional of brews (it was funny how many "Days of Ruin" one can have in a week and feel to great about it). :) If you live in Brookings and have not heard of this fantastic brewery, or if you are visiting our beautiful area, don't miss the opportunity to sample this fantastic ale.
