Super disappointing brunch service this morning. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen but the wait time was a little ridiculous for simple breakfast food and considering the place was only about half to two thirds full at the time. It was at least 40 minutes from the time we ordered to the time our food started showing up and, for whatever reason, our French toast kabob appetizer didn't come out until the rest of our mains. The bigger problem was the Irish Filler. Of the two strips of bacon it came with, one was overcooked to the point of being brittle and hard to chew, while the other was way undercooked so the fat had just barely started to render and had that sort of gross gelatinous texture. On top of that, I had to send it back twice because it was missing the gravy and the corned beef; both of which are standard ingredients included in the base recipe. Our server was very apologetic and was quick to return to the kitchen for the missing ingredients. Unfortunately, when the dish was complete I dug in only to find the entire thing lukewarm to the point that the cheese hadn't even melted over the potatoes in the bottom of the bowl. By that point I just wanted something in my stomach so I just sort of picked at it until I was no longer starving, but I didn't even bother with a box for the leftovers. To be fair, the Top o' the Mornin' omelette and the breakfast burrito with sausage were really good; generous portions and cooked well. But I feel like when your brunch menu only consists of like ten items to begin with, you should probably excel at all ten of those items. Hopefully this was just a one-off and not indicative of their usual quality but with a variety of other local places to choose from, I can't say for certain that I'll be trying my luck here again. read more

Have eaten here a few more times since my last review. Overall, I've been pleased with the service and meals but on 7-27-26, our service was atrocious. I have never been WOWED by the service as the owner claims to do. Our server was polite but after being seated at 6:40pm and ordering drinks, apps, and entrees at 6:51pm, our appetizer came out at 7:10pm and by 7:43pm, we still hadn't gotten our meals. We had to cancel our order and the server (Holly F) was polite but patronizing and said she would "cancel and comp the meal". Comp is short for complimentary. All she did was not charge us for a meal we canceled. She also tried to justify that our entrees were put in only 28 minutes ago and it would be another 5-10 minutes. So we sat down at 6:40, ordered at 6:51, and our entrees weren't put in until 6:15, a full 19 minutes after we ordered??? She also gave an excuse that they only had two people cooking and the restaurant was busy. Not my problem. If she knew they were under staffed, she should have told customers that the kitchen is slow. Communication goes a long way. This is the first time I have ever canceled an order at a restaurant. I doubt I will go back. Very disappointed with the staff. read more

They have a nice patio so we could bring our dog with us. Which was great since we are traveling. The Irish coffee was amazing. We both ordered the bread bowl chowder. The chowder was great. But what really said it apart was they toasted the top of the bread with the garlic butter spread. The service was great. Would definitely come back. read more

We had such a wonderful time at fat Irish kitchen! I was in Brookings for work with my wife traveling with me and we just didn't know where to go, our hotel receptionist said we should come here and man are we glad we listened! The vibe is exactly what you expect from a awesome little Irish pub. Lots of beer artwork on the walls, cool little tree of life art, and the friendliest staff you'll ever find. The bartender Holly was the most friendly bartender I've had in I feel like a decade or more, and the bar back Josh was pretty awesome himself. He gave us some wonderful tips for some other places to eat at as we travel around the state, and all in all both of them gave us some pretty epic conversation. We almost never said at the bar, we decided to this time and I'm so glad that we did! The food was so so, nothing to really write home about but nothing really wrong either. It's bar food, you get what you expect when you go to an Irish pub. Taco Tuesday was well worth it, I'm a pescatarian so I had the fish taco and then tried their awesome potato taco and enjoyed the potato taco the most actually! I wouldn't pay what they normally charge for these tacos, they're pretty basic and the tortillas are not grilled nearly enough, but Taco Tuesday made three tacos only $10.50 and I could mix and match between all the different types so that was totally worth it! My wife tried the honey mustard chicken salad and unfortunately it did not live up to what she had hoped for. It was a really basic salad the veggies were fresh which was fortunate but it was basic, nothing was really seasoned, the honey mustard dressing didn't taste like mustard at all and the chicken was basic breaded chicken that tasted like it was from Dairy Queen. It was fresh, but still tasted like it was from Dairy Queen. All In all, the drinks and the bartender will definitely keep us coming back. Next time it'll just be for some drinks and some fries probably, but I definitely can't wait to try the steamer clams with jalapenos. read more

Honestly had a blast here. Very good service with amazing recommendations. I love the overall ambiance of the restaurant right next to the ocean. My third review in so many years because I am literally running out of the new restaurant to review. Since we played golf in freezing weather, we wanted to warm up before trying out nearby restaurants and Azalea's annual 3 million lighting ceremony tonight. The service and tasty cocktails were amazing and thick, starchy Clam Chowder was the perfect way to get warm. The craft hazy IPA was served chilled and sweet. Fill it to the brim yes sir! read more

(Updated to show pictures) Nice day down in Brookings, we had lunch at Fat Irish Pub down by the harbor. Cute and cozy little place, we chose to sit outside so we could bring Sophie on the patio with us. We split the Ruben, it was packed with house-cured corned beef, swiss, sauerkraut & a delicious handcrafted Louie dressing. Grilled to melty perfection on marbled rye. I ate mine with a side of clam chowder and the man opted for their wedge cut fries. I washed mine down with a local apple cider they had on tap and I can't remember what Pinky had. It was all very tasty and of course Sophie made friends with everyone on the patio. read more

The service was good but the drinks were absolutely awful. The drinks we ordered were not that complex, two or three ingredients. What we received was not even close to the description. We had been here before and it wasn't this bad so not sure what the deal was. But the 30 dollar price for three drinks that tasted nothing like described was not cool! New to this establishment.. comfortable, clean and friendly. Burger and loaded fries were tasty. Clam chowder was to thick for my liking.. very thick and potato and onion pieces somewhat undercooked. I ordered a large 4 piece fish and chips. When I got back to the hotel, I realized that there was a tiny container of tartar sauce, which might be enough for 2 pieces. I politely drove back to the restaurant and the owner told me I had to pay extra for an additional tartar sauce. The staff here is very friendly. They have a very local crowd for a following mostly I believe because of the sports bar section. Their food is very good if you are looking for comfort food. Lots of choices like Irish beef stew, fish and chips and their famous corned beef French fries (I can't think of the official name but good) great selection at the bar (full bar) nothing below average in my opinion. We have been here many times and been happy with the food. Something changed. We went last night for dinner with some family who are visiting and it was an embarrassment to have even suggested it. We waited 45 mins for our chowder to be brought to the table, one was missing. That one did not arrive until the mains were brought out. Who wants to watch their main go cold while they eat their chowder? Not me. When I asked if the cottage pie could be kept warm the "waiter" looked at me like I had asked for a million bucks and said no. Now for the food. The fish batter was soggy and way over peppered, the fries were cold, the cottage pie had zero flavour. The table next to us complained and the person who may have been the manager was indignant saying "well, you ate it". The gentleman politely told him that having waited so long they were starving, he did comp their meal. I did not feel like mentioning the poor service or food to be treated that same way. We will not be back and I would suggest you take your hard earned cash to a place where they appreciate your custom. We will for sure not be back. read more

Came by for a quick supper after a long day of travel and putting the boat in the marina. I love the theme of the restaurant and the menu. Service was a little slow and we heard other table's complain because of the wait time. I guess they were especially busy that day. So here's my take on this place. I've been 3 times one for breakfast one for lunch and one for dinner. Breakfast was good enough but very skimpy on portions for the price. Lunch was about the same Dinner we had just last night. First bad thing was the bartender served us our water using all his finger tips on the rim. My daughter was buying me dinner so I didn't say anything. I ordered fish and chips with coleslaw for $21 and received a 1/2 filled 2 oz cup of coleslaw, maybe 12 wedge cup fries and 3 relatively small portions of fish. It was good but portions were ridiculous. I'm a local here and probably won't be going back anytime soon. Teach your employees how to serve drinks and make your portions bigger for Christ sake. read more

We arrived on a Wednesday evening and the place was busy. We decided to wait and set outside. The hostess forgot about us and the outside waitress had to intervene. When we finally got seated, there was no waitress to be found. The hostess actually had to take our order. It took us over an hour to figure out who our waitress was. The restaurant started to empty out and we thought it would expedite our service--but we were wrong. We waited over an hour for our food. They were completely in over their heads. There was no manager to check on things or to apologize. This place seems to be mismanaged on the service and kitchen end. The food seemed good but it could have been because we were so hungry by the time it arrived. The kitchen was so slow that it became awkward for anyone to check on us and we felt avoided and neglected. We were minutes away from just leaving. What a great pub and restaurant. We were greeted as we walked in and sat immediately. We ordered drinks right away and was served quickly. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great suggestions. They were out of the Bangers and Mash but chose the Corned Beef tacos and my wife had the Fish and Chips, both meals tasted great. This is a local place with Irish decorations around the walls.
