We had such a wonderful time at fat Irish kitchen! I was in Brookings for work with my wife traveling with me and we just didn't know where to go, our hotel receptionist said we should come here and man are we glad we listened! The vibe is exactly what you expect from a awesome little Irish pub. Lots of beer artwork on the walls, cool little tree of life art, and the friendliest staff you'll ever find. The bartender Holly was the most friendly bartender I've had in I feel like a decade or more, and the bar back Josh was pretty awesome himself. He gave us some wonderful tips for some other places to eat at as we travel around the state, and all in all both of them gave us some pretty epic conversation. We almost never said at the bar, we decided to this time and I'm so glad that we did! The food was so so, nothing to really write home about but nothing really wrong either. It's bar food, you get what you expect when you go to an Irish pub. Taco Tuesday was well worth it, I'm a pescatarian so I had the fish taco and then tried their awesome potato taco and enjoyed the potato taco the most actually! I wouldn't pay what they normally charge for these tacos, they're pretty basic and the tortillas are not grilled nearly enough, but Taco Tuesday made three tacos only $10.50 and I could mix and match between all the different types so that was totally worth it! My wife tried the honey mustard chicken salad and unfortunately it did not live up to what she had hoped for. It was a really basic salad the veggies were fresh which was fortunate but it was basic, nothing was really seasoned, the honey mustard dressing didn't taste like mustard at all and the chicken was basic breaded chicken that tasted like it was from Dairy Queen. It was fresh, but still tasted like it was from Dairy Queen. All In all, the drinks and the bartender will definitely keep us coming back. Next time it'll just be for some drinks and some fries probably, but I definitely can't wait to try the steamer clams with jalapenos. read more

The service was good but the drinks were absolutely awful. The drinks we ordered were not that complex, two or three ingredients. What we received was not even close to the description. We had been here before and it wasn't this bad so not sure what the deal was. But the 30 dollar price for three drinks that tasted nothing like described was not cool! My third review in so many years because I am literally running out of the new restaurant to review. Since we played golf in freezing weather, we wanted to warm up before trying out nearby restaurants and Azalea's annual 3 million lighting ceremony tonight. The service and tasty cocktails were amazing and thick, starchy Clam Chowder was the perfect way to get warm. The craft hazy IPA was served chilled and sweet. Fill it to the brim yes sir! read more

Cute and cozy little place, we chose to sit outside so we could bring Sophie on the patio with us. We split the Ruben, it was packed with house-cured corned beef, swiss, sauerkraut & a delicious handcrafted Louie dressing. Grilled to melty perfection on marbled rye. I ate mine with a side of clam chowder and the man opted for their wedge cut fries. I washed mine down with a local apple cider they had on tap and I can't remember what Pinky had. It was all very tasty and of course Sophie made friends with everyone on the patio. read more

I ordered a large 4 piece fish and chips. When I got back to the hotel, I realized that there was a tiny container of tartar sauce, which might be enough for 2 pieces. I politely drove back to the restaurant and the owner told me I had to pay extra for an additional tartar sauce. I said that is maybe enough for 2, and he just rudely looked at me and basically said I had to pay. Wow! It's a condiment and it's the principal of the matter. read more

Been a few times, EVERY time we've gone they were out of several items on the menu. This last time I didn't even order food cuz the items they did have were not something I wanted to eat. We have been here many times and been happy with the food. Something changed. We went last night for dinner with some family who are visiting and it was an embarrassment to have even suggested it. We waited 45 mins for our chowder to be brought to the table, one was missing. That one did not arrive until the mains were brought out. Who wants to watch their main go cold while they eat their chowder? Not me. When I asked if the cottage pie could be kept warm the "waiter" looked at me like I had asked for a million bucks and said no. Now for the food. The fish batter was soggy and way over peppered, the fries were cold, the cottage pie had zero flavour. The table next to us complained and the person who may have been the manager was indignant saying "well, you ate it". The gentleman politely told him that having waited so long they were starving, he did comp their meal. I did not feel like mentioning the poor service or food to be treated that same way. We will not be back and I would suggest you take your hard earned cash to a place where they appreciate your custom. We will for sure not be back. read more

We arrived on a Wednesday evening and the place was busy. We decided to wait and set outside. The hostess forgot about us and the outside waitress had to intervene. When we finally got seated, there was no waitress to be found. The hostess actually had to take our order. It took us over an hour to figure out who our waitress was. The restaurant started to empty out and we thought it would expedite our service--but we were wrong. We waited over an hour for our food. They were completely in over their heads. There was no manager to check on things or to apologize. This place seems to be mismanaged on the service and kitchen end. The food seemed good but it could have been because we were so hungry by the time it arrived. The kitchen was so slow that it became awkward for anyone to check on us and we felt avoided and neglected. We were minutes away from just leaving. The staff here is very friendly. They have a very local crowd for a following mostly I believe because of the sports bar section. Their food is very good if you are looking for comfort food. First time here. It was really crowded because of the Pirate festival. Wife ordered a turkey bacon club, I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a half reuben. Our server was swamped but did an OK job. He screwed up our order and assumed that my wife and I were sharing her sandwich and never put in my order for the reuben. He was apologetic and fortunately, the sandwich came out quickly. Overall, the food was very good. Real, tender turkey, flavorful corned beef (a little dry but still good) and a decent amount of sauerkraut on the reuben. So here's my take on this place. I've been 3 times one for breakfast one for lunch and one for dinner. Breakfast was good enough but very skimpy on portions for the price. Lunch was about the same Dinner we had just last night. First bad thing was the bartender served us our water using all his finger tips on the rim. My daughter was buying me dinner so I didn't say anything. I ordered fish and chips with coleslaw for $21 and received a 1/2 filled 2 oz cup of coleslaw, maybe 12 wedge cup fries and 3 relatively small portions of fish. It was good but portions were ridiculous. I'm a local here and probably won't be going back anytime soon. Teach your employees how to serve drinks and make your portions bigger for Christ sake. read more

What a great pub and restaurant. We were greeted as we walked in and sat immediately. We ordered drinks right away and was served quickly. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great suggestions. I was visiting the area and someone at the hotel recommended this restaurant. I loved this place! Good beer, good food and good service. The pub has a bar in the middle and dozen or so tables around it. There is also a patio but it was closed when we were there. I told the waiter what kind of beer I liked and ask what he recommended - he brought me over something to try and it perfect! The first night we didn't realize the portions were as big as they were, we ordered too much food and then we ate way too much food and finished it all. We ordered the Friend Cheese Curds and a bowl of Clam Chowder. I am not sure if I had fried cheese curds before, I really liked them. My partner loved the Clam Chowder and then we shared the fish and chips and I loved both the fish and the French Fries. Excellent service here! We were seated with no reservations. They have outdoor seating (with fireplace!) and indoor. We opted for indoor this time but there were plenty of folks (and dogs) enjoying the outdoor patio. Our server was super attentive and friendly! We came here for the calamari but they sold out by the time we came by so we went for the wings, cottage pie, clam chowder, and pastrami sandwich. Every dish was delicious and flavorful!
