I ordered the mini bento with rice, two slices of spam, eggs and teriyaki chicken. It was very good and kept me from being hungry on the 6-hour plane ride home. OMG! Finally... simple local Hawaiian food!!! My husband and I walked here from our hotel. Pretty hidden location near industrial buildings. Hole in the wall. Mom and pop shop. We love it! Small area with 4 tables that seats 4 people each. Greeted by older gals that were just so cute and welcoming. My husband ordered Da Piggy breakfast that consisted of spam, Portuguese sausage, sausage links, bacon, 2 over easy eggs over rice. I had Da Loko Moco which had spam, beef patty, bacon, Portuguese sausage, 2 over easy eggs over rice. The lady brought out a bowl of gravy for us to share since they forgot to add it to our meals which we were okay with the gravy on the side. OH MY GOODNESS, our meals were so delicious! I kept telling my husband how happy I was. The gravy wasn't like traditional gravy. More on the clearer side and not creamy-milky looking. Very, very good! We were both very happy! TL;DR - Inexpensive, unpretentious, no frills... just honest local food done well. For visitors, this is the kind of food my Wisconsin people would call "meat and potatoes" or "stick to your ribs." If served in the upper Midwest, this would be considered a lumberjack's breakfast. Just a ton of carbs and protein to fuel your day at work, the beach, hiking, etc. The offerings are pretty standard local/Japanese foods. They do have pre-made bentos and musubi ready to just be grabbed quickly, which is nice, but even if you order from the menu the food comes out quickly. Highlights: - Their portuguese sausage is super high quality. Many maui eateries just fry up the stuff you get at Costco, but not here. Its a slab of really flavorful and nicely textured sausage. - Fresh hamburger patties. Should be a no-brainer but too many places in Maui get lazy and use frozen patties for loco moco. Oyako Tei clearly makes their own patties in house and they are tasty! - Fried rice. I got a full breakfast plate and it was all good... but the fried rice was really a cut above. For visitors, this is a Hawaiian style fried rice which has a lot of meat and smokiness from bacon and sausage. It's good, just know it might not be what you expect. So far this is my favorite Hawaiian style fried rice in Maui and I have tried many! Next time I go I am going to just get the fried rice special. I noticed this place is listed for "brunch" and want to warn my fellow millenials that this is not really accurate. They are open and will serve you during that time, but dont expect a "brunch experience." The seating area is designed for people to eat a quick meal, not to lounge and luxuriate, and they wont have mimosas or bloodies, let alone a server to keep you topped off. Cute Hole in the wall mom & pop shop with the best dry mein. It hasn't left my mind since the first time I had it. I'm not a fan of bean sprouts,so I was so happy there was none in this one. Oyako Tei served the best spam musubis we've had on our trip to Maui! We tried musubis from 5 different places around the island and Oyako Tei was hands down our favorite. Let's start with how they opened super early and were ready for us jet lagged East Coasters looking for our first meal to devour. We stepped in and were greeted by the super cute Aunties and Grannies that make this a beloved, authentic, and family-owned local favorite. Ready to eat a full breakfast meal at 7 am, we ordered the Piggy Breakfast subbing the white rice for their beautiful fried rice to try as much variety as we could. We also got Da Loko Moco but sadly we realized they were so busy they forgot the gravy. We did not mind though as the portions were so big we could not finish them. After hearing from a regular about the corned beef hash patty we had to order one of those as well. The highlight of it all though we're the Spicy Spam Musubis!!! Just a very subtle mild "kick" similar to Sriracha but not really spicy at all was AMAZING!!! We had immediate regrets that we had not bought more for the road since we were driving to Hana that day. Fast forward a few days later we called ahead to our favorite Aunties to see if we could do a pickup order for the Spicy Musubis and we're told they only make them on Mondays and Wednesdays :,( Only to be called back hours later by the aunties and told that they would set some aside for us to pick-up the next day. We were so excited and heart warmed by the act of true love from the shop. When we picked up the order we ended up buying a couple more extras the Aunties made so some of our other friends could try these little bundles of joy and bliss. Can you imagine two grown 30+ year old women giggling that they hit the jackpot with spam musubis? The musubis were a rave from our friends and we even had to end our last day in Maui going back to support the shop by buying regular musubis (still fire!!!) and a large bento (not pictured but damn that beef teriyaki? was also goooood!) on our way to the airport. Also, pretty sure we were close to having spent over $50 total overall on only musubis.. no regrets! If we stayed close enough we probably would have frequented the shop daily because we love the family so much! We can guarantee if we are back in Maui our first stop will be Oyako Tei as long as they are open! Oyako Tei is a cute restaurant only 5 mins away from the airport. Real mom and pop shop, pretty small. There's only 3 tables for people to sit down and eat. We had a party of 7, so luckily we beat the crowd cause we took up half the restaurant. The staff is really friendly and the food is pretty good. Regular local kine food. "Da Loko Moko" came with a homemade patty and the French toast was good with thick slices of bread. I had the breakfast plate with Portuguese sausage. Came with 3 pieces but the pieces were real big. I was in Maui in 2016 and I still have dreams about this place. I tell anyone visiting to go here and my most recent friends who went in March 2019 said it was as good as I made it sound. Do not miss the spicy spam musubi or the mac salad. Or literally anything they have because it is so delicious. Go for breakfast and then get lunch to go. You will thank me later. This is the kind of place that isn't fancy on the inside and doesn't need to be. You sit at a set of picnic tables with table cloths and the locals look at you and say "how... how did you find this place?" and as long as you are nice to them (and you had better be!) they will give you ALL THE PRO TIPS to have the best Maui experience ever. My wife and I discovered this place on our honeymoon last year, we were just reminiscing about how incredible it was and just discovered it has closed. Hopefully the owners find a new location! After a very early morning on Haleakala, we were very hungry and found this place. In addition to having the best loco moco (which is different from Da Loco Moco), it has the nicest aunties who run the place. They clearly had been a part of that community for a long time and treaded their patrons as friends more than customers. It's an unassuming hole-in-the-wall that has incredibly good food and people. It doesn't get any more local than this place. Yes, 2016 marks the first time I've ever heard of them, thanks to Yelp. The Kahului Industrial Park isn't an area I'd go searching for food in because it's mainly service-related businesses. But, the menu and pics looked good, so here we go! ATMOSPHERE: This mom & pop shop is located in a warehouse building across the side street from Midas. The ambiance is that of your grandparent's dining room, complete with folding tables & chairs covered in homey tablecloths, stacks of inventory along the walls, and a small hot food line counter with bentos sitting on top. No menu was in sight sans for 2 specials on the chalkboard, but thanks to a fellow Yelper who posted a recent pic of the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted and phoned in my order. MENU: Breakfast bentos, local plate lunches & bentos, and catering. FOOD: Roast Pork - Upon first glace, I thought the dish was going to be too small to satisfy me, but it was sized perfect. The 3-4 slices of pork were tender and covered in a thin and savory brown gravy, and came with a big scoop of rice and lightly-pickled cabbage. I opted for macaroni salad as my side dish, which was very good, enough to garner a spot in my top 5 list. They mix in a little bit of diced white onions and carrots which even I could tolerate, and peas which I love. Affordable and tasty. Cheeseburger Deluxe - Only in Hawaii do you see the word "deluxe" added to burger descriptions. This means you want the veggies included. The homemade patty was made with diced onions inside, and covered with 2 slices of provolone which was super tender but lacked flavor. Veggies were tomato, onions, and butter lettuce. The bun was nice and soft. I added just mayo at first which is how I usually like my burgers but that didn't do it justice so I added on mustard & ketchup which made it a little better. Meh, I'd pass on this. SERVICE: Don't expect traditional restaurant or hotel-like service. This is what I call Maui service, which isn't a bad thing by any means. A friendly lady took my phoned in lunch order at 7am, which was ready in 15 minutes. As soon as I got there, one of the ladies yells out "Da roast poke ordah stay hea!" When it came time to pay, I hand her my credit card. She says "Wait yeah, I only get one line," meaning someone was on the phone so the credit card machine was useless. About a minute goes by, and another employee yells "Hurry up she gotta use da credit card machine! She stay checking how many chickens get!" As I was laughing, I said that I could pay cash. She says "Oh das good!" Being that I like clean, crispy currency, I hand her a set of those. In amazement she says "Wow, look dis money, so nice and fresh off da press!" She waves the cash in the air and shouts to the workers "Look dis kine money, I neva see dis long time!!" Gotta love these ladies. OVERALL: Open early, friendly service, good local dishes. read more

Family and I stopped by here this past Friday solely on the large number of 5-star reviews that this place received. It was a great choice as this restaurant was in an easy to find location on the main road and it was also close to the airport. Our first meal on the Valley Isle couldn't have been a better experience. We ordered two Misoyaki Butterfish plates and two Da Loco Moco plates ($8.50) with a few drinks. I was impressed at the amount of food that I got for my loco moco and it felt like a couple of pounds at least. Da Loco Moco is like a deluxe loco moco with a lot more than just the standard egg, hamburger, rice, and gravy. On top of all of this, there were two wide slices of Portuguese sausages, two slices of Spam, and one strip of bacon. I was a little confused at first with the gravy, because it was so light that it was transparent. I ended up liking it a lot though, because it wasn't greasy or fatty at all like other gravies. The thing that put this place over the top for us was how friendly everyone was. They engaged in a lot of conversation with us and were very helpful with giving us instructions to our tourist destinations. The good: customer service, rice, and bacon (extra side of bacon is like 6 pieces for $3!). But that's it. Downside: only 4 tables and 4 chairs at each table so total 16 people can actually eat in. This is a local, family owned and run establishment, and the food and service is fantastic! We walked here from our hotel, so I was a little bummed to learn that it was take out only. We ordered the guava French toast and French toast sandwich, and it was ready after a short wait. It's all cooked to order and the eggs come the way you want it. The gravy came on the side and was not good in my opinion, so one ding for that. Arrived for breakfast around 8am on a Wednesday before venturing out on the Road to Hana and hike on the Pipiwai Trail, so we had big breakfasts knowing that we weren't going to have lunch until mid-afternoon. You can tell this place is awesome as the locals were streaming in and out constantly with their "regular" orders. In our group, we had Da Piggie Breakfast, Da Loko Moko, and an omelette of some kind. Everyone loved their breakfast. Also, next to the register was a little box of bagged "mochi" for a good price for little bites of heaven. Now if you are Filipino, you will know it actually as bibinka with more of a doughy texture. This is a definite hole-in-the-wall, but do not judge a book by its cover. This place has a lot of love and aloha built in and you can feel it as you walk in and are greeted by the little old ladies and in the yummy food. Parking is ample right in front. No bathroom avail (nothing obvious and we didn't ask). Very few tables for in-dining seating, but I'm sure that if you asked someone to share their table, they likely would oblige - everyone including the patrons were friendly. comments/my experience: if you follow me on yelp you know i rarely give five stars unless you're actually amazing. this place is actually amazing. let me explain everything! we came back from the summit (which we didn't even get to see bc it was too cloudy that day) and we were so hungry (we are staying in kanapalli) we found this little place on yelp and saw it had great reviews and it was open (we came down at 8 ish so most breakfast places weren't open) and my cousin was craving bacon so we decided to come here. they are a family ran business with lots of local fans. because we came in the morning their spam musabi (spicy and non spicy) were still warm and they even had this peanut butter coconut mochi called bibingka. service: family owned. so kind. so many locals. we sat down at a table for 4 (only four tables of four total) lots take out! we met a lovely lady with her husband and they come here 3 times a week so they're familiar with the family and the business. they talked to us about where to go and another local male told us where to go and what to do as well. people here are so tight knit and friendly to one another. because it's a local spot it's so nice to meet new faces and hear about their journey. price: price was pretty reasonable for their portion. spam masubi was $2 something and the bibingka was $2. plates were all(if not most) under $10 food: took a while to come out (15-20 minutes) but so worth it. the french toast (blueberry!) was fresh and moist. their meats were perfectly cooked and the bibingka was probably the best thing I had eaten.
