I had gone in August of 2024 while on holiday in Canada. Here is my in-depth review as I tried each dish. Omurice was good but I wished there was a bit more ketchup spread evenly. I really enjoyed the spam included in the omurice. Mushrooms were delicious, like it belonged in a pasta. Nicely seasoned and was well balanced with the rice. Miso soup wasn't too salty and the tofu was a good size. Sponge cake was light and not too sweet. it would be paired nicely with a tea. the design is quite cute. My favorite was definitely the pudding. It was very creamy, and the syrup was perfect. The dessert reminded me of a crème brûlée. This is the best pudding I've ever had. I'd come back to this place if I was ever in the area, and was wanting a comforting quick bite. Pork floss and sesame was an interesting one. Pork floss isn't something new to me, and i'm familiar with the taste. What I wasn't expecting was how the sesame oil would change how it would taste. Of course the texture is dry as it is pork floss. Though it is not my taste, I think trying new things makes life worth living. As I kept eating it, I enjoyed it more. The sesame oil is very tasty. I think a brisket and sesame would be amazing. Butter cookies were nice too. The cocoa was buttery with a light chocolate taste and the matcha one wasn't too bitter either. Again paired best with a tea. Though I'm not unfamiliar with onigiri, I usually have trouble trying not to break the seaweed wrap while opening it. the owner had helped me find an easier way to open it without tearing. They have a general menu but they often try to rotate their flavors every day. I would come back here with friends if I'm back in Canada so they could try the onigiri and pudding!

Have been longing for the opening of this Japanese origiri rice ball place on Main Street in Newmarket! How refreshing to have Asian food along Main Street where the majority of the restaurants are western pubs/burgers. We came here on a Friday at around 4-5pm, as an early dinner. We didn't want to come any later since the place closes at 7pm and we also wanna make sure the ones we wanted are still available. Upon entering this cute and cozy shop the male owner greeted us politely with a smile. Luckily the three that we wanted to try were available. We ordered a shiitake mushroom, a grilled salmon and a spicy tuna mayo. They ranged from $4-$4.5 each, and there's a buy three get a pop/miso soup for free promo. And we opted to dine in and ordered a pop. They accept credit cards too except Amex. The owner was so nice and offered us free cookies and miso soup as well!! There were around ten tables of 4 including some higher tables that let you sit by the window that looks out on Main Street. Onto the origiri, we both enjoyed the shiitake mushroom very much, flavorful. Despite getting close to end of day, I don't feel that the rice is dry/hard at all. Enough mushroom for every bite. The spicy tuna mayo and grilled salmon were normally decent but not out of the world and same as what you would have expected, I prefer the spicy tuna mayo. grilled salmon has chunk of salmon in the middle and then has some sort of terrakayi sauce, I probably would prefer more salmon and maybe mashed and mixed in with the sauce similar to the tuna mayo. The free cookies that the owner offered also taste legit. Feel home made. Not overly sweet. There's candied ginger, coffee, matcha, and chocolate. All are good. It's a really nice place for some grab and go or light snack/refreshment. Not only do they offer origiri, but also some cookies, pudding etc. great spot for hanging out with friends. The friendliness of the owner made it an even better visit. Will wanna come again to order shiitake mushroom and try out other flavors! FYI All their origiri are cooked except the one with tobiko, which is cured.

Highly recommend! Good variety of Onigiri and dessert and cookies ! You can see food freshly prepare. Customers coming in steadily address the owner Thomas by his name ! I think those are repeat customers. Inside sitting area spacious and clean ! 5 Star ! Kids enjoy the free of charge game while we wait for the food. Washroom very clean that you can tell the owner care about details .

Saw this recently opened onigiri place and it did not disappoint! I tried the Grilled Salmon and Shiitake Mushroom and they were both really good even though I ate them four hours later! The proportion was pretty good too! There was enough filling and you wouldn't feel like you're eating just a bunch of rice. The place looks really cute and clean too. Service was really good! The person who served me took his time to explain the different flavours and was kind enough to give me some free cookies! They were delicious! Everything is made fresh daily! Would definitely come back to try more onigiris or even their cheesecake!

Last Saturday, I was in my car, parked steps away from Zoup! I had placed a dinner order. I looked across the plaza and noticed Paris Baguette (PB). I had visited COBS Bread a couple of hours earlier. Did I need another bakery visit? Yes! I had some time to kill before picking up my dinner. It was raining. I drove over to PB and parked relatively close to the store. I walked in. I felt like I was in heaven. Carb heaven. Where should I start? I got a tray. There were instructions to grab a small piece of paper and lay it on the tray. I got tongs and went to work. I saw palmiers. My mom loves them. I grabbed one with my tongs and broke off a curved section. It was probably a first for me. I ate the broken part and placed the imperfect palmier on my tray. The broken piece was yummy and was perfection. I finally understood why my mom loves palmiers. I hit the croissant section. I got a pain au chocolat, which is probably my favourite type of croissant. I also got a chocolate croissant. A nice, older woman started chatting with me. She was so sweet. She let me know that she frequents this bakery often and loves it. I asked her what items she hasn't had. It was two items, which floored me. She noticed the chausson aux pommes that I had on my tray and said that it was yummy. I got the following items: - Chausson aux pommes - Chocolate croissant - Pineapple brûlée pastry - Palmier - Pastel de nata - Pain au chocolat - Curry croquette The nice woman let me know that Mia, who was the staffer behind the counter, let her know that this bakery has Korean owners. Really? It made sense seeing mochi donuts. We both hit the checkout counter. Mia got her order and said to grab a seat. She'd bring everything to her. This nice woman said that she was shy of being 90 years old. What?! She looked great! I wouldn't have guessed that I was talking to an 89-year-old woman during my entire time here. I hope that when I am her age, I am savouring pastry as often as my new friend. Mia was great. She put all my pastries in a box. She singled out my savoury curry croquette in a paper bag. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I got my receipt, thanked her, grabbed my goodies, wished my new friend a wonderful day, and left. There was a Wild game that night. I had a pastry each period. Three pastries in three hours. They were delicious! I will say that the ones with fresh fruit were the most expensive, just over $6. They were worth it. The chausson aux pommes had the best apple filling. It was flaky and delicious. I absolutely devoured the pineapple brûlée pastry. The pineapple chunks were set in custard and were so naturally sweet. This pastry was superb. The pain au chocolat continues to be my favourite croissant. It was flaky and had the best chocolate in every bite. So good! I had the chocolate croissant and loved it. It was fresh, flaky, and soft. The chocolate drizzle had the right amount of chocolate with the buttery croissant. I was extremely happy with my pastel de nata. The custard had a hint of sweetness. The base of flaky. It could have been torched on top more, but I'd get half a dozen next time. I didn't know what to expect with the curry croquette. It was delicious. It had a crispy exterior, crusted with a mix of white and black sesame seeds. The curry filling was full of good flavour. It had veggies in it. The corn and carrot combination worked nicely. I raved about this place to my friend at work today. There's one at Heartland in Mississauga, which is perfect for us to do a run after work. I had an excellent experience. It was nice meeting a passionate pastry lover while getting her take on what she loves. Everything that I consumed was excellent. I hope to get a drink next time and perhaps sit down to enjoy it. I'll be back. (117)

I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I went for their red velvet cookie, pistachio croissant, and cappuccino. The croissant was my favourite - flaky, buttery, and had just the right amount of pistachio filling. The cappuccino paired nicely with these pastries, though it was pretty standard. While the red velvet cookie was also tasty, I wish it was slightly chewier, but I loved that there was cream cheese frosting in the middle. This is one of those cafes that while the interior decor looks a bit basic (and there's nothing wrong with that in my books!), I think their pastries stand out and make it worth the visit :)
