The first time I passed by OZ in the 90's I swear I saw a naked man dancing on the bar. Mind you, I was pretty tipsy at the time, so he may have just been wearing flesh-colored speedos. Either way, you are bound to see some cute Go-go dancers when you come here. Oz is one of the top gay bars and dance clubs in the French Quarter. They also give back to the community via charitable events & donations, which I appreciate. When I'm in town I stop by to play Drag Bingeaux or catch a Drag Show. On my most recent visit, I met up with a friend here for Drag Bingeaux. It also happened to be Happy Hour, which was an extra bonus. My friend and I had a great time as the hosts Ivy Dripp & Demi Boi Frost made the game exciting & fun. My friend ended up winning twice! (A $15 bar tab and a $25 bar tab.) PLEASE BEWARE!!! Read reviews on Google and Trip Advisor on this bar!! I was traveling alone. I made the mistake of paying for my first 2 drinks with a 100 bill. The Bartender named BO saw my money. Toward the end of the night, my 3rd drink was made not in front of me. 20 mins later I could not walk. Bo and the bouncer african american man who was heavy set, swooped in, walked me outside, robbed my purse and put me in a car. I called the police in the morning having NO memory of anything. Our group of eight came here excited for a fun drag show. We paid for a table and were ready to support the performers with tips and drinks. From the beginning, she was rude and dismissive toward us for no reason. At one point during a video segment, she even walked over and told us to "be respectful," even though we were only quietly talking to each other. We weren't heckling or being loud at all. We know how drag shows work and we were being polite. Still, she singled us out and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I've passed this place several times on my trips to NOLA but have never been in. This time, we had a perfect reason and found it to be an amazing dance club. There is a cover per person, and once we got in, there was quite a wait for drinks as there were only 2 bartenders for the packed downstairs floor. Once we got our drinks, they were good enough but nothing spectacular. The gogo dancers were entertaining and really catered to everyone regardless of gender and it was fun having them dance and wink at everyone in your group. The dance floor was really where all the action was, super packed and with a great dj. There was also an upper floor and balcony, but we didn't make it up there. Overall, it was a fun club, and everyone had a great time. While I wouldn't come for the drinks, it's a great spot to dance after you've got a buzz going. read more

Had a great time!! Checked out a Sunday night drag show and it was so much fun!! Great vibe and the bartender served us quickly. If I ever come back to New Orleans I'm definitely going back... There was only one drawback... the toilet in one of the restrooms was completely jammed with toilet paper. And when I said jammed, I mean it was coming out of the top of the toilet so I had to head back to my hotel to use the bathroom... Thankfully it was only a few minutes away. A night out at Oz is the ultimate YMMV (#1) since no one evening is truly the same. One could argue this with just about any nightlife venue, but I've seen enough here that I can vouch for randomness that this place is subject to be. When they're on it, it's a slay worthy venue but when they're not, it's as drab and as cheesy as the rest of Bourbon St. The lighting is such that it's a virtual guarantee most pictures are going to be terrible. Speaking of terrible, the drinks feel like they're watered down and it takes several of them to even get me feeling anything. This doesn't negate the fact they're pricier than the average drink in the area and the bartenders are rarely the friendliest. Their saving grace is their performers. It depends on who they book, but some of the drag shows are fabulous. The dancers are mainly for eye candy and they love a little gratuity (#2) for their efforts. The music can get poppin at times and it's so loud in here that conversations often are shouting matches. Come for the entertainment, enjoy the dbaggery of the tourists, beware of be the restrooms. This is by far the best experience I have had while on Bourbon St. Like most people this was our last stop before heading back for the night. I am glad that it ended up being our last stop because we stayed here the longest, had the most fun, and were able to relax. We were out for a night of relaxing while on an work trip and went as a group. We all made our way here and decided that it was a good choice to come here. As we were unwound at that point. Coming in we were a bit skeptical as there were not many people in here, but that allowed us to have the best time that night. It was almost like we had the place to ourselves. The drinks were superb and the staff were truly attentive. I almost left my card at the bar and before I knew the bartender was getting my attention to make sure I didn't leave it. When a friend and I stepped outside we chatted up the person at the door asking about what other establishments like this we could find nearby. They told us about all the LGBTQ+ businesses nearby and the gay friendly establishments to check out. It was nice to talk to someone that had all the insight for the area. It's not easy being able to know where to go. Other than that, we danced the night away as the drinks were flowing. The music was really good in here and our group definitely tore up the floor and took over a bit. We were all having such a great time. Came here a few times during Southern Decadence. Place felt very hit or mess The sound system is outdated and the gain was pretty loud on the mic during the drag show. Drag: very engaging and the show was pretty good. Variety of music during the performances enough to engage everyone across different generations. Just the club: electronic music, not a lot of variety. Packed. Bathroom dirty. Bartenders, decently friendly. Solid 4/5. Toss up on whether I would return or not. We ended up coming here two nights in a row - once when we caught the end of a drag show and again the following night when they had what was supposed to be some type of male review and dance competition, which ended up being 4 unathletic, out of shape guys dancing and performing various contests to try and be crowned the winner. Both nights we were here this place was full, not packed, the upstairs area was not open and drinks were reasonable. It was, um, interesting that there were no doors on the restroom and patrons watching the stage show could also easily turn around and watch the "show" in the restroom as patrons urinated in there if they were so inclined. read more

Karaoke was fun, until it was my groups turn to go and the clown of a bartender grabbed the mic (from my group of nonbinary friends) and sarcastically said "give it up for the white women". He made no comments to any other groups performing, only us. Of course nobody laughed. he cheaply apologized to just one of us. When I tried to talk to him about his generalization/cheap sense of humor he got aggressive, asked if I was "tryna be his momma" and told me to leave. It was definitely...interesting? Unfortunately I did not stay for the drag show, but they have events happening every day basically that range from comedy to drag to stripping competitions and more. The bathrooms are a little fucked up though, given that one of them that has multiple urinals and the whole bathroom has only saloon doors to block the view and the stall has no door as well. It's basically completely open. There's another bathroom with a door that closes that fits one person but the door doesn't lock. The drink I got there was very good--it was apparently the signature drink of the bartender. About eight dollars. People and servers felt about what you should expect from a gay bar and were friendly, but not overly so. If you initiate conversation most would be happy to talk. It is a little quiet early in the evening if you like that type of vibe. read more

Sexism is alive and well. We are two queer women and went to this bar for a drag show. We got to the bar ahead of time and stood near the stage. Once the show started, we were told in a very rude way to move and we did so. If the staff wants you to stand in a specific place for the show, they should tell patrons that, especially if they have arrived early to get good spots. Very quickly upon that, a man behind me pushed me hard and called me a misogynist slur. I stood my ground and pushed him back. We were then forced out of the bar. The staff had zero interest in hearing what happened or removing the man who originally pushed me from the bar. If we had been men instead of queer women, I imagine it would have gone differently. Ultimately, I have never been to a gay bar that was so openly hostile to women before and I would certainly not recommend this to anyone. read more

I remember coming to New Orleans for the first time in 2019 for a work trip and I was actively looking for something queer to do walking down Bourbon St. I loved that this was located towards the end of all of the mess leading up to Canal. When I was last here, there was a very fun drag show going on during the week. I always had these memories of my random night out, but eventually forgot the name of this place until I came back this month for Southern Decadence. During my stay here, I found myself coming back to Oz because they had cheaper drinks compared to some of the other 'straight' places down the street. I always felt that the bar tenders knew how to pour a drink as well. The music was always pretty good as well. I would definitely recommend checking this spot out if you're visiting New Orleans. It's a great place for dancing and a variety of other different events. read more

This place is mismanaged. The music, decor, and vibe is all great, but these guys don't even have a working phone. You might not think that's a big deal, but IT IS IT. I am a tourist who lost my purse, along with my car keys and iPhone in this establishment, and because I've already flown back home, I can't just walk in and check the lost and found. I have managed and owned nightclubs for 22 years and helping customers recover lost property was a daily occurrence. I have never heard of a venue of this size and magnitude not having a working phone number. It's actually quite unfathomable. But hey, maybe they'll read this review and get their act together. Oz is just on the other side of barricades that separate Bourbon Street's bright lights and over-served tourists from the street's darker, emptier and somewhat more desolate section. As you may have figured out, it is a gay bar and often that means great music, dancing and even drag. Not so much at Oz. Our little group had to cross a wood ramp that covered a torn up walkway where we were greeted by a couple of hosts collecting a cover charge. It was earlier evening and Oz was fairly empty. I questioned the cover charge and was told nastily by one host that I could "go back to Metarie" which would be 'no loss" because I "probably didn't tip". The other host took our money, explaining the cover was being charged because they were in the middle of a show. We walked into a big square bar and off to the left there was a room with a stage. There was a mezzanine that overlooked the stage. We never passed this front area. We bought a round of reasonably priced drinks (and yes, we tipped) and went upstairs to watch the drag show from above. Sadly, it was not very good. The performers were more heart than talent, there was a lot of disorganization and even a few audio issues. The audience was very small and not very enthusiastic. We sipped our drinks and watched a couple of numbers and some banter between the emcee and a disembodied voice. It didn't take long to figure out we didn't belong in Oz and we followed the wood ramp back to Bourbon street. read more

I am from Alabama for decadence and I was getting a drink from the bartender named JoJo upstairs in the wicked lounge and first time my card didn't work because my bank thought it was fraud because I previously ordered a drink downstairs and I asked her to give me a second because my bank was sending me text asking me is this you using your card and I was in the process of unlocking my account because my bank thought it was stolen because I had previously went to get a drink. I went to show her and I understand she is very busy, but she threw the drink at me instead, and it got all over my friend also. First of all, you do not do that to a customer, especially one that was tipping really good for one drink each time. This bar is for cis gay men. This is NOT a safe space for all queer people. I came to this bar with a group of queer/non-binary people and was utterly disappointed in how we were treated. My friends participated in karaoke night and were having so much fun! Immediately afterwards, however, the bartender (I believe the evening's host referred to him as Sissy-- tall blonde, white man with a receding hairline) left his position behind the bar, took the mic from my partner, and said "Thank you, white women!" Everyone in the group was either non-binary or trans. Visibly so, I must add. For context, many other femme-presenting, white individuals performed before us. In the entire hour or so we were there, the bartender did not say a word about another group. VERY disappointed & I do not recommend this bar for queer people who care about inclusivity. read more

Another very exciting club to visit to watch male dancers on top of bar tables. Just wow! It was not that crowded when we went here so alot of attention to us to see this lovely guy dance. Holy f7ck! What a difference! Just walked here from BP in hopes of a better experience. Bingo! Cameron, one of the bartenders, was busy but did not hesitate in acknowledging me right away. As soon as he had time he asked what I wanted to drink. Here things get better: $5.00 for the same overpriced drink at BP! And served with a smile!!! I should add, this place is twice as busy.
