I moved to TX about 2 years ago, and we all know the struggle us women go through when we are forced to leave our comfort zone and find a new hair stylist/lash extension professional- it's the worst because you're taking a gamble and hoping you don't walk out looking like you did an at home YouTube tutorial that went horribly wrong! I don't leave a lot of reviews- but my services here have been so consistently fabulous, that I felt both Kara and Kerem deserved some recognition. Kara does an AMAZING job on my lashes- I didn't think anyone could be better than my previous lash lady, but Kara IS! I can't tell you how many compliments I get on my lashes on a daily basis, it's insane! I feel so confident going to work even without makeup because they're always so long and full. She does a ton of skincare treatments as well- I've struggled with rosacea my whole life, and it is extremely embarrassing when it flares up. I have to consistently use expensive creams to keep it under control. She offers a treatment with a very high success rate that eliminates rosacea symptoms permanently!! I am so excited to finally stop buying those creams and be done with the redness! Kerem has been doing my hair as well- it's so convenient that I can knock both hair and lashes out at once! Being a blonde, it's even scarier going to a new stylist because of the fear of coming out looking orange. Kerem eliminated that fear by getting me to the icy white-blonde color I've been wanting for years! It took a few visits, but that's because he really cares about the health of your hair and doesn't want to damage it by bleaching the crap out of it all at once. I am so thankful for that, because while it sucked waiting to reach this point in color, my hair feels super soft and silky as if it's never been colored. LOVE my new hair and eyelashes. Kara is amazing at what she does. Her spa is so neat, calming, and I loved having a personal therapist for an hour. She is a perfectionist which is what you need when you're trusting someone with your eyes. On the recommendation of my dry cleaner, and because Selma's had provided a 25% coupon off, I made an appointment and went expecting little but hoping I'd get a decent cut, at least. Cut to the chase - one of the most awesome hair cuts I've ever had. This is even more incredible because I have very straight hair and this is one of the hardest types to cut, if not the hardest. Keren whipped out his scissors and actually worked his magic. I was immediately complimented by my husband, and friends. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because I rarely give out 5 stars. If I go here three more times and have the same experience, I'll be upping this to 5 stars. Oh and Selma is Kerem's mother who also works there and stocks the international boutique, which fills the place with stuff to buy from around the world. I went to Selma's last weekend to redeem a $40 LivingSocial coupon for a spa manicure and pedicure, which also included a $10 gift card for a future visit. (The regular price for a spa manicure is $30, and $40 for a spa pedicure.) I was having my bridal portraits taken the next morning and wanted to look my best. Jennifer, the nail technician, was really personable, funny, and professional. And she did an awesome job on my nails. The whole service took about an hour and a half. She used hot stones and steamed towels as part of the spa treatment. I asked for French polish and she did not charge me extra. It's been four days since the service and my toenails still look impeccable (and I don't think I have cute feet at all!). I am glad I chose Selma's for that very important photo shoot. The only reason I am not giving them five stars is they need to market themselves better. I have not been able to get their website link to work, and I had to call twice to set my appointment. They are located in a little house on McNeil Road near 183. It's a small lot and hard to see from the road. But it's way worth finding. read more

I used to travel an hour away to see my stylist that was wonderful and only charged $55. Considering the low price I didn't mind the drive. Then one day I came in and after providing the service she claimed the salon changed prices and the service is now $80. I decided it was no longer worth the drive. I tried a couple stylist in Austin. One turned me platinum blonde instead of giving me highlights. The other gave me a dingy mouse brownish awful color. I started checking out other every females hair asking where they go. Finally I found Karem at Selma. Karem is a fourth generation stylist working in a small salon set up in a house. At first, the girl told me there were no openings (booked for a whole week before the wedding due to spring break), and said I could spend an extra ten dollars on a layer of shellac if I wanted to show up 8 days early.. no thanks, I can buy a whole bottle for about that much. I was disappointed and almost didn't call back. But I wasn't about to waste 40 bucks that fast, so I called back and pleaded that I'd only bought the deal because of this wedding, and asked if there was anything they could do to help. This time, she offered to make a call and managed to fit me in the day before I left for the wedding. And my nails looked better than the bride's! In February of this year, my fiancee purchased a gift certifcate from Morgan's Deals (at my request) for my birthday. Being new to Austin I took the chance to go to Jennifer for my mani/pedi 2 days prior to my wedding in early May. I had to change my appointment twice because of dress fittings. Jennifer was more than willing to change my appointments & work me in to make my day! And she did. She was so kind, caring & beautiful inside & out & the soon-to-be bride had a very relazing foot massage, hot stones & perfect pedi (painted a sky blue for my something "blue'). When it was time to do my finger nails she suggested a "shallac" polish as my naisl are natural and she knew they needed to stay picture perfect for a long time. Best idea ever! They were gorgeous for the wedding & honeymoon and about 2 weeks later the polish started to come off. She allowed me to soak off the shallac then free of charge. That was the longest & best manicure I've ever had. I have been back numerous times since then (gotta show off my new wedding ring with perfect nails) and my toes & finger nails have never been in better shape or looked prettier. I'd recommend Jennifer to anyone who wants to look & feel their best. She is remarkable! I had cut, hightlights and style. The haircut and highlights were great. I was happy with the services I recieved. What I am not happy about is the dishonesty. I bought a KGB deal for $65 which included a cut, style and all over color. When I called to see if I could have highlights instead of color I was told that was ok and the difference would be between $35-45. I booked the appointment and before we started I told Karem that I had found his salon because of the KGB deal. When I paid, I gave him coupon. He told me the difference was $75. I was shocked. Basically he values his service at $225.00 $150 (value of KGB deal) + $75 (additonal for highlights) Basically the KGB deal was NOT a deal at all. I paid full price for the services. The service I recieved was fine but Karem did not honor the deal. Therefore I would NOT recomend him. 3 stars because I am satisfied with the service. my hair looks fine. read more

A friend referred me to Kerem at Selma's a few months back. He is ABSOLUTELY awesome. This time, I let him take off a little extra (I used to wear my hair long, and I'm transitioning to the idea of going a little shorter), and he explained to me the steps I should take to do this. As a result, I had him take off an extra two-inches (rather than a little more as I had orginally planned). Maybe next time I'll let him take a little more. Regardless, I really appreciate the fact that he won't take off anymore than you want him to. He is also fun to talk with while he's styling your hair. I am so happy with Kerem as my hair stylist, that I bought both of my adult daughter's gift certificates to get haircut and styled by him. They both loved their new styles and they look terrific! I called with a 911 lash emergency, and I needed some major help! The full set of gotten not even 4 days ago had been a total nightmare, from the tools, glue, atmosphere, and quality of the job. Kara was able to see me that day (thank god) and turned an absolutely horrid lash job into one that didn't make me look or feel like a crack head! She's OCD, which I am too, and appreciate when a technician has that 'eye' for a great look and application. She was so easy to talk to, we chatted about travel, conspiracies, children, life... So, I called back (again) very early Saturday morning (4/2/11) to see if I could get an appt... They did answer the phone finally, but unfortunately the stylist that put the Ad Pages Coupon up was fully booked already (Kerem). So, I had to make an appt for this last Saturday (4/9/11). To backup here, I did purchase a coupon online thru Ad Pages (yes, one of those you pre-pay for); it stated "$25 for a $50 Haircut (including shampoo, cut, & style)". I'm a bargain hunter & this was great! Kerem saw me right away & was friendly. And, as others that have reviewed - he does do a good haircut. However, I have had $50+ haircuts - & his still lacks a bit to where I wouldn't jump up & down to pay $50 for it (by taking his time to make sure it is done right as opposed to speeding thru it). But, he was so friendly & it's hard to find a good stylist, to where I was seriously considering going back anyway. After what happened next, I won't be going back. Since I had purchased the coupon a month ago, & I had a very busy & early morning with doing a garage sale; my mind was elsewhere. When I went to the front to check-out, I gave him my debit card & he asked "how much would you like to put on this?" I said "$35". My 1st thought was $25 for the haircut then $10 for the tip. He ran it thru without question, & once I signed the receipt, he quickly went back to his station. I had handed him the coupon as soon as I 1st saw him; so he knew about it. But, I left - went all the way back home, sat down for a minute & it dawned on me what had happened. My friends/sister were there & encouraged me to go back & explain what happened - so I drove all the way back to make a fool of myself to get my money back. My main thought was "Why would I essentially pay full price for something I went out of my way to buy a coupon for??" As time went on as I was driving - I kept thinking "Gosh, this guy was trying to prey upon my absent-mindedness, without even a thought to clarify or do the right thing." Surely he knew I wouldn't pay full price for something I gave him a coupon for - that defeats the purpose. Kerem was neutral when I came back - he wasnt rude or anything...but he wasn't understanding or agreeing with me that I paid him too much either. I basically gave him a $35 tip, which is high on most standards - & he didn't even bat an eye. He did refund my money, & I handed him cash for his tip. The guy drives a brand-new Jaguar - for us average people, saving a little money is a refreshing thing...& he shouldn't make us feel bad for wanting a bargain every now & then. If he didn't want to give out $25 haircuts (plus tip), then he shouldn't have put out the coupon. I know these type of coupons are a smart way to drum-up new & repeat business - but what he did to me just made it to where he won't have repeat business from me. read more
