Did not have a good experience here. Firstly I received no updates on my vehicle- it was supposed to be ready Tuesday- I called on Tuesday and they stated it wasnt ready and perhaps could be ready Wednesday. Mind you I made arrangements to pick up my vehicle this day- especially since I live 45 minutes away- so it was inconvenient. I called again Wednesday and they stated the car was not ready, after being on hold it was actually ready for pick up. Does not seem there's a good line of communication here among employees. As well if my vehicle was ready why did I not receive a phone call of updates. "Your vehicle is ready for pick up" would be more than sufficient and the bare minimum for an auto shop. I ask to pay over the phone and all of a sudden there's almost $100 difference of what the invoice was. I ask what was the extra cost and Amanda was guessing trying to figure out what exactly was added. After her finally putting me on hold to go ask somebody, she stated that they needed to install something extra in my vehicle- which is fine. What's not fine is that I did not receive any updates of what was even being done with my vehicle. I wish there was a better line of communication among customers on any updates being done. As well this installation was most likely done days ago, so at least when I called on Tuesday they should have been able to tell me the extra installation and tell me it is extra. Not sure how to rate this business, but had bad experience with them. Communication is horrible I had to reach out to them to check the status on my car and they told me they haven't got to my vehicle yet that they will call me back. Another day goes by and they haven't called so I called them back and they said I was having transmission issues and will need a new transmission. I ended up taking my car back which had to pay a substantial amount just for them to tell me this. Took my vehicle to another shop and came out to be a simple sensor issue, the other shop replaced it and my vehicle is running amazing. Again they crushed my expectations. 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71 4x4, wiring issues, panic was setting in over this BS,I took it back to P&M automotive and explained the symptoms. Expected a large bill, $1000 or so. Nope, $208 two new fuses and a burned out blinker was all it was. They could have taken me to the cleaners but integrity ruled the day. My car broke down in Salem, luckily the tow truck driver AAA sent worked for P&M. He was very kind and helpful, and I am not familiar with any of the shops in Salem, so based on my impression of him (and the reviews I saw here), I decided to have my car towed to P&M. From the jump, they were super transparent about pricing and what to expect. I'm oversimplifying for brevity's sake, but after looking at my car they basically said, "It's either this major issue or this smaller issue. We could try this, and it may fix it if it's the smaller issue, but it won't do anything to help if it's the major issue and it will cost about $600." I said, "Okay," fully expecting that it wouldn't fix anything and that this was going to be the start of a long, expensive process. Luckily, it worked! They had my car for 2.5 days. I'm an antsy lady who likes updates, so I ended up calling them first both times we spoke. However, they were super kind and professional when we spoke, told me where things were at, and they didn't treat me like a nag (even though I was kind of being one). They ended up charging me about $150 less than I was expecting after all the work they had done. If I ever need a mechanic in Salem again, I'll definitely come here. Oh and if there are any fellow women-who-don't-know-much-about-cars reading this, I'm sure you've experienced the crappy, condescending demeanor some mechanics put on when they're talking one of us. I am not sure what to rate these guys at. All I know is I was having problems with my transmission shifting and I brought it into these guys and had them diagnose the problem and The service writer came back to me and said well we found what we call the code of death for these Dodge transmissions... He said it's going to be a complete rebuild. we can rebuild this transmission for $4,900. I felt like I should have another diagnosis and was strongly recommended by a friend to bring it to a transmission shop out of Silverton. The guy at the Silverton transmission shop diagnosed my problem and said it was a sensor and it would be $800 to fix it.. I had them fix it for 800 bucks and I got almost another 60,000 mi out of that transmission... I don't know how to rate this company because of this incident but I do know I could have got bent over really bad if I would have let him" rebuild" My transmission at p&m automotive read more

Salem PD found my stolen truck in the wee hours. I was asleep so they had P&M tow it. P&M piled so many charges on, it was like I got robbed once by the bad guys and once more by the "good" guys. There's an extra charge for starting overnight--they towed it at 2am and I picked it up 10-12 hours later. Another extra charge for some made up bs. Right around $300. My Mom brought in her vehicle recently to have some work done. P&M was frustrating for her to work with and didn't communicate well at all. They had to have her come back several times to do bits and pieces of the work because they couldn't manage to get things there at once and she can't leave the van there for days or weeks as they requested. The work was shoddy. Multiple things "fixed" less than 2 months ago have already failed. The work and parts should be warranted, but I don't expect they will honor it. They have been horrible to work with and not understanding at all. Even to fix their shoddy workmanship, my Mom has to wait a week and a half to get the vehicle in. If it were my business, I'd want to get her in and make things right, but I guess thats not how they work. I don't drive my car much but I went to a different mechanic recently because my car was shaking pretty bad and turns out when the guy took the breaks out and showed me there was no pad on there and for me just getting my breaks done with p&m not that long ago and not driving my car that much they should've lasted a lot longer. Have lived on LANCASTER since 1980 and have made use of this place many times. They have jump started my car many more times than I care to remember. AMANDA is a lovely gal and very nice. Sorry, guys, she is taken. I have had good luck most of the time when taking my car over there to check it out. Usually, friendly and efficient service. One time though a mechanic found a ton of things wrong which would cost some $800, I took my car to another trusted mechanic, told him what I was told and his verdict a few hours later than absolutely nothing was wrong, just a filter needing blown out. So, even a good place can have those mechanics. Otherwise, 4.5 stars for an old favorite. They are a AAA place and possess this really neat jump starting machine with lots of power. I have always had outstanding towing service from P&M however, last week was the exception. The driver didn't know what to do. My driveway area can be a challenge for someone inexperienced but the drivers in the past have had no problem at all and have always been very friendly and cordial. This driver had no customer service skills. No greeting. He seemed very annoyed and did not want to do the job. I made a suggestion that he told me would not work. He called dispatch and they made the same suggestion. It was apparent he was not going to try so I made an alternate suggestion as I was running out of time and needed to leave. Once I got my car into position behind his truck I started to get out but he instead winched me up onto the ramp and had me steer my car onto his truck and then told me to leave it in neutral with the parking brake off. I didn't think any of this was proper protocol or safe if the winch or cables were to fail. It was pouring rain with the slick metal truck ramp and mud all around and he didn't help me down or seem to care if I fell from the truck bed or not. I also had asked him to check my car for a set of keys that I may have dropped during the whole debacle and he quickly glanced and said there aren't any keys. After he left, I texted him to please check again once he gets to the destination. He never replied and the people at the destination said the keys were in the car in plain view and that he didn't say anything to them and he didn't even look inside the car. There is so much more to add about his attitude and incompetence but I will just end with the fact that I noticed the next day that to top it all off and add to this horrible experience, he damaged and broke the fence along my driveway in several areas. I am still in disbelief at this level of incompetence and inconsideration. read more

Excellent. P&M has done all my oil changes since my first day of service there. But I had to write an update because of this little gem. I went in to get an oil change for $40 (My Tundra takes a lot of oil) and asked them to rotate the tires. Not ask if they needed to be rotated, I just figured they were due for a turning. When the service was done, they came back and told me the tires all looked like good, even wear, so no rotation was due. They also knocked five bucks off my oil change since it took a little bit longer than usual to do the change-over, so my total was $35. Once again, I was impressed by their upstanding honesty, as they could have rotated the tires and charged me regardless, as I have readily stated I am pretty dense when it comes to automotive maintenance.
