Me and my friend came to visit birmingham today and we were shopping at apple store. It was late noon and we haven't had food yet, so we decided to have lunch here. This place was very nice, good location. And we enjoyed the sunset from this uphill place. Guy named tony was so helpful and manager came and check on us almost every 30 minutes. Great service. As Yelpers, we can joke about all of things with notorious chains like PF Changs. And although you can't really point at them for being extremely authentic, their food is always good. I can't remember a meal that I did not thoroughly enjoy at this location in particular. Even people I know that have worked at a PF Changs laugh at the people who order lettuce wraps. But they may be over-ordered... but they are delicious. The service at this location has always been good. Even if the wait times aren't always the best. I can't remember all the things I have had. But I can't remember a time that I regretted something I ordered. I have had some of the fried rice and a few of the beef dishes. Along with a lot of the typical chicken dishes. I once went with a friend who worked there and he got me on the shrimp with candied walnuts. Very good. Would I take an out-of-towner here - no. Do I typically spend my rare free nights coming to test out all of chains the Summit offers - no. But I never been disappointed or not really enjoyed a meal at this PF Changs. read more

We decided to try PF Changs for the first time last night. We didn't have to wait long but when seated our table was soaking wet from being cleaned and our menus were laid on the wet table as well. When the waitress brought our drinks she apologized our straw paper was wet but gave them to us anyway. All this kind of grossed me out. The food was ok other than the dry fried rice. Pork dumplings were the best thing we had. Food is Not better quality than Panda Express though. Probably just a bad night but not a good first impression. read more

We made reservations two weeks in advance for Mothers Day. My 92 year old Dad who is on portable oxygen decided after a half of a year to go out with me since it was Mother's Day. My daughter also arranged to go into work an hour later so she could make lunch as well. We arrived to the restaurant to a very crowded lobby and front entrance because they had overbooked for the occasion. They said it would be an hour before they could seat us and we were even 10 minutes early for our reservation. I explained my situation and they informed me that everyone was in the same situation as me. What is the purpose of a reservation? No mother wants to wait a hour for her special day. PFC needs to course correct on their reservation policy. If they take too few walk ins will always fill it up. Went here on a Friday night and had a very good experience. Our waitress was super nice and helpful narrowing down decisions with such a large menu. We ordered the lettuce wraps for an appetizer which we both loved and I order the shrimp with lobster sauce for my main dish. The mushrooms were a great touch for the dish. I'm not a giant fan of P.F. Chang's, but I had a great date experience here a few nights ago. We walked in on a Thursday night with no wait. The lady at the front was very polite and friendly as she walked us to a table at the back. Our waiter greeted us and got our drink orders promptly. My friend is gluten-free so she got a gluten free menu and ordered a fried rice with broccoli. I remember loving the dynamite shrimp but noticed it was only available as an appetizer. I asked the waiter if I could get it as a meal and he worked my order into the system with the chef. I really enjoy flexibility in restaurants. A lot of the times, especially at chains, you'll just be told that it's not possible or those are their rules, so I was actually very pleasantly surprised when our waiter made it work. It's probably been quite a few years since I've had the dynamite shrimp and it's just as good as I remember! A nice hefty serving of the shrimp fried and soaked in their dynamite sauce. P.F. Chang's is our favorite restaurant. But tonight was agonizing. They were busy but not as much as I've seen on a Friday night. We got our seat and place our order along with the drink to save some time. It was my daughters 14th birthday and it took 50m to get our food. The waitress was nice but non attentive. The manager was nice and to his credit comped the meal. I appreciated the thought but would rather have had good service and timely food. We told him it was my daughter's birthday and would like to get a desert. He brought a desert menu. 15m later, no one to take the order. We waited to at least be told good night but nothing. We left a cash tip and left. Total time in a not so busy restaurant was almost 1.5hrs! As usual, the food was excellent. The atmosphere is great. But waiting such a long time along with poor service made for a disappointing experience. Hopefully this is an anomaly but looking at some other reviews I fear their struggling. Worse damn service in my 60 years. Meals came out a different times, I waited 40 min for my chicken pad Thai, what I got was tofu with a bunch of peanuts and 15 noodles. Slop - pure slop. I wanted a bucket of chicken so I plugged in KFC in my map but I must have inadvertently hit PFC and we ended up at PFChangs. We thought "hey, they serve chicken" so we stayed. We got an order of chicken lettuce wrap, which is like a taco without the taco. It was good and could be an entree if you order like four of them. We got food family style, which means that you argue about politics at the table. Actually it means that you share. We got beef, hot chicken, and shrimp. There was a vegan at the table and she got Thai harvest curry. She was not thrilled with it. Too heavy on the curry and it was swimming in way too much sauce. My husband and I went to PF Changs the other evening and had a wonderful experience. The service was great. It is a big pet peeve of mine when you are trying to have a conversation with your dinner friends and you can't complete a sentence because you are constantly interrupted and asked if you need any thing. I have never ordered a dish that I didn't like or wasn't hot enough, inlcuding my spouse. Next, the menu clearly labels what is spicy and what is not... If you can't handle the heat, stay out of the booth. Definitely stay out of the kitchen! [It is unsanitary for non-employees and is prohibited by law:)] Note, they also serve dishes that can be very sweet, just make sure that your personality matches the flavor and your fellow countrywoman (or man) accompanying you will surely be pleased. Finally, the staff is great. As a matter of fact, the staff tends to be more well educated than myself on the majority of occasions. They are really good at what they do. I imagine they are highly skilled in other studies besides food and beverage, but unfortunately the job market isn't always ready for their chosen expertise. They RARELY dissapoint, and they may "school" you, but never in front of your date. In conclusion, go ahead! Go right ahead! Protest eating at these franchise restaurants, you know you like it. I must admit that PF Chang's has one of the best happy hours I've seen in the area, especially at the Summit off 280! Between the hours of 3pm-6pm Monday- Friday. The popular Lettuce wraps that are usually $9.50 are on sale for $6! Not to mention there are are a few happy hour drinks too! I had a few plates the California sushi rolls, califlower tempurara and the lettuce wraps. The lettuce was crunchy, crisp and easy to assemble the ingredients into. The sauce is like a sweet chilli mixed with a soy (not sure what it is) but pairs very well with the dish. The cauliflower is Sriracha type mx and very tasty! Great dish for vegetarians! The California sushi was not all that great. Very dull and not so tasty actually. The service was great! The wife and I visited PF Chang's for lunch today. We was seated within 10 min which was great considering it was noon on Sunday. Our waiter Leo was great but you can tell that they may have been short handed this day. We initially ordered tea and coffee. My wife said her tea was good but my coffee was Luke warm. Not off to a great start. She ordered the Honey Crispy Chicken and I ordered Sesame Chicken. Both of our dishes taste like a T.V. dinner. I have had cheap takeout that was way better than what we had in front of us. The manager Ken made his rounds and asked how was our food. He was very nice and asked if he could get us something else. I told him that was unnecessary. He asked if they could at least get us dessert on the house. I told that whatever my wife wanted for dessert we will get. Well the check came and no mention of a complimentary dessert. I didn't ask the waiter about it because I felt the manager should have communicated it to the waiter. The rating of this review is 100% about the management. We were walking around the shopping plaza and decided to venture to P.F. Chang's for dinner. Our car was far so we had our stroller and asked if we could have a booth. The hostesses made no problem of it and we even said we would just break the stroller down out of the way. We were taken to our seats and put at a table in the middle of the restaurant. When I politely said we actually asked for a booth, who I am assuming to be the manager snapped asking where we'd put the stroller. We were escorted back up front where baby and I had to sit and wait for husband to run to get the car, come back and take the stroller out. When we were leaving, the manager who was rude tried to strike up conversation and give an obligatory apology for earlier. If you were sorry why wouldn't you stop by the table when we were sitting there not grab me on the way out while I have a carrier in my arm? We saw him standing around, checking in at various tables and talking with employees around our table. I honestly didn't need an apology, but to apologize in that manner was aggravating. Honestly, we were perturbed but didn't let it ruin our evening. We just find that we prefer to have the carseat in a booth with us vs a stand. No big deal. Our food was great and our waitress was super friendly and around the perfect amount. If we had been approached in a different manner, or not at all we would have left with a different feeling and be more likely to return. Well, this is a first...for us. We usually rate establishments that show exceptional, wow-like, or some other noteworthy qualities and we also use Yelp as a marker/platform to inform others of good eats and to remind us of where we have been and what we have liked lest we forget. I know. I know. P.F. Chang's? I know. But hear me out and read on... Location. Excellent in The Summit and the decor is like no other Chang's we have frequented and we have been to a few. Most notably the one in Sandestin, FL. As we walked in and were seated, the first thing the four of us noticed was how bright, well-lit and open it was. The high ceilings and multiple walls of windows - 2+ sides had windows and the perimeter seating was raised slightly - made for an impressive atmosphere. The Food. The appetizers were standard P.F. Chang's and good: Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Dynamite Shrimp. Vegetable Spring Rolls. The main courses were also standard Chang's good: Honey Chicken and Chang's Spicy Chicken for the kids. The star of the show was the Salt & Pepper Shrimp. It was simple and delicious. The chopped salted/fermented black beans made the S&P shrimp very good to our taste buds. We tried the Banana Spring Rolls and they were ok and not our type. The Berry Ginger Shortcake was my favorite and ooh-la-la good according to our daughter; the hint of ginger provided a nice balance to the sweetness of the fruit and whip cream. And the Apple Chai Cobbler was diabetically dangerous. The Cobbler, Shortcake and S&P Shrimp are 'Let's Do It Again' worthy. The Service was the co-star of this night of Chang dining. Taylor was personal, attentive, talkative and a lover of food. When asked about the 'black stuff' (beans) on the shrimp, he headed to the pantry and brought back a bag of the fermented beans to show us *and* he knew where we could purchase a bag at a local establishment (Asian Market). In between our on-going food diatribe with Taylor, both managers stopped by to introduce themselves and chit-chat. David was especially interested in why Taylor was bringing the black beans to our table. He highly recommended the Coconut Mojito that my wife thought was 'interesting' b.k.a. just ok. I went in for lunch today and was quite disappointed. I ordered Salt and Pepper Prawns with Fried Rice for an upcharge of $4.00. The breading on the prawns was not crispy, tasted pasty and seemed to be undercooked. The rice was not seasoned at all--too bland. Not worth it for the price. Not all PF Changs are created equal. Dining at Changs in over 8 states shows the difference in each franchise. Unfortunately ours here in Birmingham is not one of the top tier locations. While the staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean, their food is always sub par. My Changs chicken was over fried by a long shot. It was tough and rubbery like biting into a car tire. Flavor was also tremendously lacking as all of the peppers and such that usually come in the sauce were no where to be found. Appetizer: crab wontons were great as always.
