Japanese pancakes & Paddy James Irish Coffee
Jill B.

Braved the bitter cold to go to brunch. The staff were friendly and fun. Service was excellent. And we liked the atmosphere. A limited brunch menu and we probably should've gone with the lunch items. The Irish Coffee was underwhelming and did not have cinnamon as listed. The pancakes were not that fluffy. My Quinoa bowl was a small portion of delicious veggies but only one fried egg. The only hearty meal was the Irish Breakfast. Still, service was efficient and friendly. I would go back for lunch.

PHILLY CHEESESTEAK

The service was great and the view by the windows was even better! Food tasted great, the fries were especially yummy. Great cheesesteak!

Oysters, daily flat bread, curry chips, and PJ'S BUFFALO SHRIMP

Happy hour $1 oysters from 5-7pm on weekdays at the bar or in the lounge. We sat outside and the HH was offered there too over summer. It was my friends first time have oysters and now she's converted. Def more of a place for oysters rather than the other food

PJ's is a wonderful restaurant located in the beautiful Curtis Building @ 6th & Walnut Sts! The vibe is upscale steakhouse, but gives more relaxed and chill! I have been here for happy hours, but this visit was dinner after a show! There is a raw bar (Big Plus) and the cocktail selections are top notch! The service from our waitstaff was attentive and offered good suggestions from start to finish!

Beautifully exquisite building, beautifully unique cocktails, and what's this, buck a shuck at this classy restaurant! My friend and I popped in for a quick drink and bartender gave out some recommendations. I went with some purple colored gin that the bartender said is very unique and one of his favorite drinks and I said sign me up! My friend got the old fashioned which was literally smoking after he picked up the lid from the drink. Bravo, bravo, and guess what they tasted as good as they looked as well! I did not sample any of the food here but highly recommend you come here for a happy hour or buck a shuck when it is being offered. I will definitely be back sometime and look forward to trying more of their menu items. As always people SYOY!!!

The happy hour prices were truly unbeatable, so much so that we ordered 3 platters of oysters. The service was a bit slow, but very good and intentional. Sitting at the bar was also very fun, the bartenders were great conversation when they weren't mixing drinks. Definitely a great spot and I want to come back to try the dinner menu!

DEVILED EGG TRIO

Adorable vibes outside and inside. Higher end, but still casual dining. Server was great and suggested items we should try. Everything we had was delish - ribeye, pot pie, Brussels and deviled eggs.

Service was okay. Had to ask a few times for spicy mustard (dijon?) for the burgers. Good selection of items on the menu. Happy hour a bit expensive. The burgers good, not great. The fried zucchini and eggplant were hits. Did not realize they'd be nested in tzatziki, but nice touch. Did enjoy the red by the glass. Balanced with nice finish (mystery California cab). The location likely led to the higher prices. The place is very well appointed. Would likely return with right circumstance. Check it out. -- workingman's gourmand.

Petite Fish Stew

P.J. Clarke's and Fish Stew - you wouldn't think those two would be 'synonymous'. Get over it - the Stew is as good as the burger. I'd never been to this P.J. outpost in Philly - living in NYC, it's a staple when you want a good burger - I'd been several times. This restaurant is located in the Curtis Building in Washington Square. I was looking for a place to have lunch - initially thinking 'salad'. I wasn't too hungry, but had an appointment in a few hours and needed to have a bite. I saw Talula's Cafe, but the salads didn't look that appealing-I saw Spread, but didn't want a bagel sandwich. Lastly was P.J.'s. I looked at the menu and saw Fish Stew! I didn't expect that! My first fish soup (Cioppino) was Scoma's on the Wharf (SF) - it set the standard. I'll be back there in August. The Stew today at P.J.'s was a 'warm up' - but what a delightful bowl! It was a Petit Stew (only $20) - the perfect size! It had a delicious lobster, tomato base with a touch of spice. There was a large scallop that was so tender....it fell apart. The two shrimp were nice sized, tender and flavorful. The Stew was rounded out with chunks of cod and two small clams. There were two big slices of toasted baguette that I dipped into the stew and savored the crunchy delight! I found a little gem of a dish in a place I never expected - I'll be back.

Deviled eggs (toppings were crab, a fried vegetable, and bacon)

I went with a friend for happy hour (5-7 pm) on a Friday afternoon. The bar area was a little crowded but we got 2 seats. I tried the mint cucumber gin cocktail and the aperol spritz (spritz was delish). We shared some bites as well including the smoked salmon boxty blini, deviled egg (trio), and daily flatbread (it was hot honey pepperoni which we got minus pepperoni). My friend got the oysters and enjoyed those too. I enjoyed all the bites - especially the eggs. Overall it was a nice lively spot and our bartender was awesome.

Trio mini burgers

The food and service were good. The atmosphere was very corporate feel. I feel that most people there were on a business lunch. I took visiting son there for lunch. Like I said, food was good but over priced. Our lunch came to just under $100 with tip and tax. I would recommend this place for special occasions though. I have to mention that the burgers was cooked perfectly, medium rare. Out waitress was very attentive, almost too attentive. She asked us how was everything before we had a chance to take our first bite. It's ok though, no complaints there.

My 1st time at P.J. Clarkes! You can dress up or dress down and feel comfortable. The decor is nice! You will find the red/white checkered tablecloths through out. Martin was absolutely one of the best waiters that I have experienced in awhile ! Very professional! Personable! Knowledge of the menu ! Gave great suggestions! Service was 10/10. I ordered the mimosa carafe and Martin made sure my glass stayed full. The full Irish breakfast was delicious and filling. But the stand out to me were the biscuits! I was informed that the oysters at PJ Clark's are really great! I will be back to try the dinner menu.

Raw Oysters
Juah C.

The raw oysters were fresh and delicious, though a bit on the smaller side. Unfortunately, I did find some small pieces of shell while eating several of them, probably from the shucking process... I came during happy hour, so they were just a buck a shuck. A great deal in the city!

Good oysters. Decent burger. That's about it. Embarrassing what they call a cheesesteak. Nothing like NYC location.

Service was great. The ambiance is nice and a bit like a bar from the 50s meant for rich men. The food was ok and overpriced.

My family and I got breakfast at Enswell during our stay in Philadelphia. This swanky, hip place…read moreoffers up elevated tasty food and superb service in an exquisitely decorated, albeit small, cafe. We braved negative degree weather for the roughly 10 minute walk from our hotel. We walked in at a good time. This is the type of place where a reservation for breakfast would be required. We were sat immediately. The dining area is tight. A green velvet bench, marble tables, metal chairs, all packed into a small area. You could very well have your butt brush over the table of the patrons next to you if you have to get up for any reason. It's tight. Our server was around quickly. He was super friendly and kept things conversational, light and sophisticated. My wife ordered an iced latte, I had their hot drip coffee. For a starter, we had to try the cinnamon knot bread. While it wasn't what we were expecting, it was good. Although, we wouldn't order again. The bread is presented as a small loaf, room temperature with a cold cream cheese icing drizzled over top. The bread had a mild cinnamon flavor and was dry. It lacked the sweet, moist dough you expect from a cinnamon bread. My wife ordered the French style omelet. This had gruyere cheese and chives. Beautifully plated, perfectly cooked and the taste was spot on. It was good enough to forget that she paid $21 for just an omelet, no meat, no sides. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Pretty standard here. The eggs had bright orange yolks which is common for farm fresh eggs. The "coffee" hollandaise didn't come across with a coffee flavor but it was rich and went well with the ham and English muffins. One thing that stuck with me was their drip coffee. Not sure if it has been a while since I had a light roast but the Rival Bros. Revolver coffee was so good, I got a bag of whole beans to bring back home with me. I may even order it again online. Enswell succeeded on all fronts. The ambiance and service was great. The decor, impeccable. The food, thoughtful and tasty. The details from the silverware to the plates added to the experience. We would come back.

The crab fries and garlic bread are no skips. I hope to come back to try more food! We were lucky to get a table, the hostess was really nice and even found us outside to let us know we could make it! It does get really busy so I felt a bit rushed out but it was all good.
