This place was just amazing for me. I was staying nearby so coming here was a natural choice. I loved it so much I came back for dinner after coming in for lunch. I had both lobster rolls (Maine and Conneticuit) which were fantastic. They were not too pricey and were filling. The service was excellent. The server (I forgot the name of) was truly amazing and wrote a list of places for me to visit while I was in Philly. She is an example of a great server others should follow. It was not too crowded both times I went on a Friday. There were outdoor seating, but indoor is better in the summer when it gets rainy in the afternoon. I had a fantastic experience at PJ Clarke's and can't wait to go back. I sat at the bar and Jess was amazing and took great of me! She was great answering my questions about the menu and wine offerings. I had some oysters and littleneck clams from the raw bar and couldn't pass up the lobster roll that came with perfectly crispy fries. The food was delicious and served promptly given they had a decent lunch crowd. I love affogato so ordered that for dessert and it was sooooooo good! Beautifully exquisite building, beautifully unique cocktails, and what's this, buck a shuck at this classy restaurant! My friend and I popped in for a quick drink and bartender gave out some recommendations. I went with some purple colored gin that the bartender said is very unique and one of his favorite drinks and I said sign me up! My friend got the old fashioned which was literally smoking after he picked up the lid from the drink. Bravo, bravo, and guess what they tasted as good as they looked as well! I did not sample any of the food here but highly recommend you come here for a happy hour or buck a shuck when it is being offered. I'd never been to this P.J. outpost in Philly - living in NYC, it's a staple when you want a good burger - I'd been several times. This restaurant is located in the Curtis Building in Washington Square. I was looking for a place to have lunch - initially thinking 'salad'. I wasn't too hungry, but had an appointment in a few hours and needed to have a bite. I saw Talula's Cafe, but the salads didn't look that appealing-I saw Spread, but didn't want a bagel sandwich. Lastly was P.J.'s. I looked at the menu and saw Fish Stew! I didn't expect that! My first fish soup (Cioppino) was Scoma's on the Wharf (SF) - it set the standard. I'll be back there in August. The Stew today at P.J.'s was a 'warm up' - but what a delightful bowl! It was a Petit Stew (only $20) - the perfect size! It had a delicious lobster, tomato base with a touch of spice. There was a large scallop that was so tender....it fell apart. The two shrimp were nice sized, tender and flavorful. The Stew was rounded out with chunks of cod and two small clams. There were two big slices of toasted baguette that I dipped into the stew and savored the crunchy delight! I found a little gem of a dish in a place I never expected - I'll be back. read more

Martin was absolutely one of the best waiters that I have experienced in awhile ! Very professional! Personable! Knowledge of the menu ! Gave great suggestions! Service was 10/10. I had high hopes for this meal, but it was a complete disappointment. The roast heritage turkey was cold and lacked any flavor, with the old-school pan gravy was the only thing hot and the sweet potato gratin with its brown sugar marshmallow brûlée was stringy and had a strange flavor . The roast autumn vegetables--a mix of Brussels sprouts, acorn squash, and potatoes--were limp and under-seasoned. The traditional sourdough stuffing was dry and flavorless, clearly not fresh. All the food was thrown on a plate . Oysters were good tho . To top it off, my espresso martini was an absolute joke. It barely had any foam and was a sad excuse for a drink. Adding insult to injury, service was atrocious. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty at 5 PM, we waited far too long for our food, and the server was nowhere to be found when needed. It took me one hour to find a parking spot. This was to walk around to independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. This restaurant is located a block from both. It was a Saturday night and we were able to secure a table tight away. There was a wedding reception going on and it was super loud. It was myself, my wife and one of my children. Mathew S was our server and he was pleasant and attentive. My wife and I had Bloody Mary's which were really good. I had a Philly cheesesteak which was pretty good a little bit light on the portion size, but acceptable. My wife had three apps as her meal a baguette with special Philly cream cheese, buffalo shrimp and Parmesan truffle fries. My daughter had the kids grill cheese. Came here on a whim for Happy Hour with my husband. They've got a great Happy Hour menu, and they have $1 oysters! Happy Hour runs Mondays to Fridays from 5pm - 7pm. We got 3 dozen oysters and a couple of drinks. And that's really all the food we ordered. The oysters were very fresh and tasty. The drinks from the Happy Hour menu were were good and strong as well. Talk about luxury. Inside is decorated very nicely with Christmas wreaths & lights with Christmas music playing. We sat at the bar for a few drinks & a quick bite. This bar can easily seat 20+ and the comfy red chairs are a nice touch. Walking into the building there's tile and stone everywhere which is beautiful. The inside is classically perfect upscale bar setting in a beautiful older building. Very high ceilings, long bar, tables along the windows. It happened to be happy hour so we dove in. $8 HH drinks were great. $1 high quality oysters! Great burgers and some HH lobster sliders as well. Food-wise, I highly recommend the fries, which are consistently crispy and well-seasoned. The crab cake sandwich needed a bit more seasoning to get it where I'd have liked it. The restaurant seats are cozy and we had a nice seat by the window with a view onto 6th street. They have 5-7 happy hour specials and we took advantage of $8 aperol spritz! 2 of us had the burger (came with tasty fries) and one had the Maine lobster Cobb. All were excellent.
