Ugh...what a contrast this place is day time vs. night time. It has a coffee shop from morning till 3pm. After 3pm they start turning over for dinner. Coffee is great, pastries are too. They have some lunch options. Morning staff is amazing! We absolutely love them. Sometimes we come for them more than coffee ha. Then comes dinner time, and the vibe changes. I don't know what's worse, food or staff. We have been regulars here for at least a year and a half as we live on the same block. Some other reviewer mentioned that this place prioritizes regulars. Maybe with previous management, but not any more. Recently they had a change of management, and with that large change of staff. But few previous people still stayed. While the dinner food did not improve, the staff has gotten even worse. Evening staff is rude, slow, not helpful, standoffish with an exception of two people. One of those people has been there for a while and is the nicest. They also have another long time bartender there who has never ever not had an attitude in the year and a half we have gone there. Literally has never seen that person be pleasant once to us or anyone. The verdict is, go in the morning, nice staff, great coffee, good pastries (for now). Avoid in the evening unless you are coming for beer to sit outside (maybe....). read more

First time coming to this bar in Fairmount. It has a bunch of specials and bar food. There was also a lot of seafood on the menu. They have indoor seating as well as a lot of outdoor seating. There was also a tv outside for watching the game. I ended up getting a glass of wine that was pretty good. My friends got their soft drinks in mason jars which was pretty cute. The tuna poke bowl was pretty small in my opinion but probably had the best flavor profile I have had in awhile. This tuna poke has pickled jalapeno, red onion, diced avocado, micro cilantro, wasabi soy vinaigrette. Such a rare amazing mix of ingredients that I absolutely love. read more

Have been seeing this place for a few years now and, instead of us going to our normal choice of Urban, we decided to finally give this place a try. We went on a Tuesday night and it was overcrowded but wasn't empty either - there were a good number of people there for dinner. We initially sat outside since it was a nice night, but moved in since it started drizzling and we didn't want to get caught in any more rain if it came down. We expected inside to be bigger than it was, but it did have a good number of tables and bar seating. The lighting and decor were nice - have like modern, chic nautical feels. For you meal we shared the Mozzarella Sticks as an app, he got the Fish and Chips while I went with the Chicken Sandwich with the Pier sauce. The waitress said the sauce was like Chick-fil-A sauce and I thought she was making a loose comparison but, honestly, it really did taste like Chick-fil-A sauce but slightly more rich in flavor. And as someone who doesn't prefer fries, these were delicious! My boyfriend said he really enjoyed his meal as well. Truly enjoyed the drinks and appreciate the nice pours of tequila shots. I wish I could've done more research while in the area, to find other restaurants or cafes nearby. I made it to Pier Bar and it was cool. The spot is nice for happy hour and smaller groups, but don't expect that you will be seated immediately. They have their regulars that they prioritize. With that being said, the staff was friendly but not super inviting and kind of standoffish. They have a great menu, so I tried oysters and their lobster tail. Both were exceptional and seasoned extremely well. The food tasted really fresh and I would come back just for that. The food is their saving grace, but their employees could be a little more friendly and helpful. They also weren't super knowledgably on how to split a bill, and I ended up wasting another 15-20 minutes waiting for them to void a transaction and split a bill. read more

Sometimes I don't want to stay in my neighborhood but I don't have it in me to go to center city, either. That's how we ended up here. This is a laid back neighborhood place and we were able to drive from West Philly and park close to this bar and find two great bar seats. The decor is very cool as it's all nautical-themed. It reminded me of something that would pop up in a beach town but all it took to get here was a drive to Fairmount. We ordered cocktails off of the happy hour menu but eventually switched to vodka- sodas. The fried clams were delicious and hit the spot with an order of fries. (All from the happy hour menu). This was the perfect spot to eat, drink, and catch up with family. We sat outside and were able to enjoy the Fairmount neighborhood. The food was delicious and I plan on trying the mussels next time. Already came back for dinner and I can confirm that the food, service and vibes are consistent. Prices are very reasonable as well! This time we ordered the white mussels, shrimp tacos and soft shell crab sandwich. We preferred the red over white mussels, but this was still super flavorful and fresh. Shrimp tacos were outstanding and the soft shell crab sandwich was filling and had a nice kick to it. Fries that were paired with it was so addicting. I have dined at Pier Bar twice now. While the food tastes good, I have gotten sick after every time. I am gluten free and informed the waitstaff. Situated on the finest corner Fairmount has to offer, Pier Bar clearly makes the neighborhood more lively and elegant with its outdoor strung lights, abundant seating, and classy facade. Inside, the space is intimate, with dim lighting, and a modern touch. The service and the food are both pretty good. It isn't exactly a "value" restaurant where you get a ton of delicious food for a low price (always the ideal), but it is a nice space for a date night or just a random outing with friends. I would certainly take family here, particularly given the nice outside experience. Brussel Sprouts - Tender brussel sprouts with a sauce similar to balsamic vinaigrette and fried onions -- very tasty. Would recommend these, but we were really going for the shishito peppers which were unfortunately out of stock -- not a bad substitution. Cheese Burger - A pretty good burger with amazing fries. The burger was well put together, though I wish it had more cheese. It was tasty, but a little dry for a "medium" cook. I would give it another try. My fiance got a beer and we were super excited they had one of our favorite German beers on tap (Konig Ludwig Hefe) for $6.50. I've been a few times, and the food is so fresh and delicious! A super fun vibe with outdoor seating, and when the weather is nice they open the windows so it feels like you're outside even if you're in the restaurant. I had some incredible brussel sprouts with a soy vinaigrette in the winter, but then couldn't get it again in the summer because the brussel sprouts weren't in season, so it's really nice to know the menu rotates and is kept fresh. In summer, I really recommend the watermelon feta salad. I also love the mussels in white wine sauce. I would definitely recommend for a fun casual vibe, with good fresh food! read more

We had a very nice brunch today at Pier. There were quite a few attractive menu selections and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We both had excellent omelets presented beautifully. The service was friendly and very good. I will definitely return for brunch. I have not tried their regular lunch or evening menus since they have redesigned the menus, so I cannot speak to that. One thing I find to be odd is the obvious lack of ham on the brunch menu (e.g. Eggs Benedict with no ham or even the option of adding it). read more
