Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The property is large and fun to wander around. The location is great because you are close to Columbus and to nearby hiking and outdoor recreational areas.

As soon as we found out, my wife called and was told that it was no problem, that there is a waiting list, and once it is cancelled, we would get a refund. We would be charged a $35 fee, though. Having not yet received a confirmation email, my wife called again, asking about the refund. And she talked to a very rude person who said we were not getting a refund because it included a holiday. Also snapped "it is clearly written in the confirmation" several times and completely ignored the question of someone previously giving us false information. The excuse was "I am a small business and need to survive"... but rings very hollow because there is no doubt it was re-rented, in fact, she is double dipping and making twice the money. Nice little racket, if you ask me. While I did miss the holiday clause in the confirmation (which was made 35 days before the arrival date, so not much time to cancel), the fact that we were told we were getting a refund is a huge problem. If we were told the truth, we would have made arrangements to at least partially attend. And if this is the way they treat customers, I am wondering if I didn't dodge a bullet by not going. Needless to say, I will never patronize this business.

Well we are glad we found Lynn and her Harrison House B&B. Easy access from the highway as well as convenient parking made locating it and checking in easy. The home is beautiful. We stayed in room 1 which was spacious, clean and comfortable. It was a warm evening in November so we went for a walk after dark in the neighborhood to see the architecture and felt very safe as we walked down the neighboring streets. In the morning we had an amazing breakfast and great coffee served by Lynn, the ultimate hostess. Great conversation around the breakfast table with Lynn and the other guests completed the positive experience. It would make for great strolling and B&B's would only lend to the charm of these gentrified neighborhoods. The Harrison House is one of the few bed and breakfast inns within striking distance of downtown and is situated on the very edge of Ohio State's campus in the neighborhood known as Harrison West (hence the name, Harrison House). The 1890's Victorian home has a great location and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been beautifully renovated to include six rooms that range in price from $129 to $169 dollars. All of the guest rooms have a private bath, queen size bed, cable television and wireless Internet service. Breakfast is included in the price and free parking is available on site- which is a bonus given the street parking in this area is hard to come by at times, especially when Ohio State is in session. I have stayed in loads of insanely beautiful B&B's and have developed super high standards when it comes to these types of accommodations. Aside from the Harrison House being privately owned and located in a nifty part of town, there isn't anything particularly special about the place.

We stayed in one of the cabins. It had a small front porch and a small deck out back with a table and chairs. The living area is quite large with a wood burning fireplace, a coffee table that pulls up into a higher table for eating, a tv/dvd player, a pull out couch, a CD player with a few discs, and then on the far side of the room is the jacuzzi tub and a rocker. Off of the living room is the bedroom with a very large bed already made with comfy linens as well as a rocker, small closet and chest of drawers. On the backside of the cabin is a small room with two robes, extra pillows, a small sink, mini-fridge (stocked w/water bottles and a few different sodas), a small coffee pot with coffee, and a few snacks, and a couple of mugs and glasses. Just past that is a shower with a glass door and the toilet and sink. It was very spacious. There was firewood set for us to start a fire once we got settled in, as well as a bin of firewood outside for more as needed. In the main house there is a cozy sitting area. There were a few board games and an array of dvd's to take back to your room if you want to relax and watch a movie. That is also where the dining area is for breakfast. You will not leave this place hungry breakfast or dinner. The masseuse came to our room for our massages. She brought her massage table and put on some light music. We went one at a time. First me then my husband. Both were each an hour long. Only thing I was slightly disappointed about was that it wasn't one of those pregnancy tables that has a hole in the middle for your belly so I had to lay on my side which isn't as comfortable. Had to use a few pillows between my legs and under my head. It's just not ideal, especially for someone like me who was 37 week pregnant, and it's hard/painful having to roll from one side to another. Other than that it was still good, this was my husband's first massage and he enjoyed his as well. Not that it mattered to us but there's not really good phone service here and wifi is only available in the main house. If you need to make a local call though there was a phone in the sitting area in the main house. Definitely recommend for a relaxing get away.

We stayed in Room 2 on the second floor, very handsomely appointed in aqua and coffee tones, with silver accents. The room was lovely and very comfortable, both the bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I enjoyed reading a book in the chair by the window. The backyard was another highlight. There is a small deck, a fireplace, an English-style walking garden, and a main seating area with candles and comfortable camp chairs. In warm weather, it's perfect either for unwinding or for extending a gathering at the end of the day. Apparently the proprietor brings food in the morning? I was not awake in time to witness this; perhaps it is the breakfast fairy. In any case, the spread was noteworthy: besides the drinks, snacks, yogurt, fruit, and cereal available around the clock, there were uncooked eggs, miniature bagels, coffee cake or banana bread, and a variety of seasonal fruit. No matter how heterogeneous your group, everyone will find something to satisfy him- or herself. Sometimes it's the little things--such as the rubber duck in the shower stall, the small fish tank on the kitchen counter, and the soft jazz CD playing in the living room on our arrival. There was a basket of highly watchable DVD movies and a shelf of local-interest books. But the important things stand out too: the entire place was immaculate and the proprietors seem to take good care of both the property and the guests. This is a very strong 4.5. Some of our housemates were staying there for the third time, and I would not hesitate to return with them next time.

Points for beauty, for sure. The thing with most B&B's that I've been to is the welcoming/homey feeling. GVGH is literally a home but doesn't have any type of check in table or actual person welcoming you into the establishment. This is actually typically fine by me, as a biz traveler I look for convenience and a low key option to rest my head. So, GVGH's stocked kitchen (homemade yogurt FTW) and impressive breakfast buffet spread was a welcome respite for a sometimes weary and non-social traveler. The home is decorated beautifully and the patio is probably just perfect with warmer weather. I can certainly see all the care in appointing the home and the guest rooms! A few items that I wasn't crazy about: 1) The aforementioned lack of human interaction when it came to welcoming me, check-in/out, etc. I didn't see a soul for the 20 hours I was in and out of here. 2) The locking mechanism on the door gave me trouble from the get-go despite reading their shared Google doc of how-tos a few times over. Said doc was the only item I had to connect me to the property. 3) The first floor room has a half wall shower that drives me bananas. I end up sloshing water everywhere despite trying to stay as close as possible to the shower head. Those three fairly minor items aside, if you're looking for a beautifully decorated but hands-off B&B stay with thoughtful accoutrements, give German Village Guest House a try.

Bedding was comfortable, as was the room temperature. All appliances and fixtures worked well. Loved the Evelyn & Crabtree toiletries as well as the thick, fresh towels! Breakfast was very simple, consisting of cereals and canned fruit salad with a few cellophane-wrapped sweets, but the local coffee brew was hot, fresh and strong! We visited the little gift shop, and picked up a history book and vintage postcards. There are local crafts and wares available too. We recommend the Hearthstone to anyone considering a visit to the area.
