My family and I came here for lunch today, my mom really enjoyed their empanada the last time they ate here and wanted to get another (and it truly is amazing). I was introduced to carnitas a little less than a year ago and have since been in love. Pachanga's has the best carnitas I've ever had. I had taco salad with carnitas; I thought it looked wonderful when our waitress brought it out..it was the best looking taco salad I had ever seen (and the best tasting). It was very flavorful and filling, I couldn't even finish it, it was so big. They use cabbage in their food, which surprised me because I've never had cabbage in Mexican food before, it was really good, and that's saying something because I normally dislike cabbage. Service was fine. Restaurant was clean. Some of the food was good but none of it was terrific. The tortilla chips that were served were somewhat thick so they required strong teeth. The salsa was interesting. It was thin with a lot of cabbage in it. Not very flavorful in our opinion. We were also served what was billed as a "hot" salsa in a syrup dispenser. it had some heat but wasn't particularly hot and it didn't have any depth to it. Once our chip basket was empty, it was taken away without us being asked if we wanted any more. Here's what we ordered and how we rated it on a 1-5 scale: (3) Beef Taquitos - .We couldn't taste any seasoning in the beef. The sour cream, guacamole and lettuce were good. (3) Pork Enchilada and Chile Relleno with Rice - I didn't feel like beans so I asked for extra rice instead. I enjoyed the Chile Relleno. The cheese was quite creamy and the overall texture was very nice. The Enchilada was okay but nothing to write home about. (3) Pork Taco and Chile Relleno with Rice and Refried Beans - our friend enjoyed his soft taco. While he enjoyed the Chile Relleno, he would have prefered it to be battered more. (3) Steak Stew with Homemade flour tortillas, rice and whole beans - Not the correct menu name but i'm too lazy to look it iup now. My partner had mixed feelings about her dish. She loved the flour tortillas and enjoyed the beans that she ate. The rice covered 1/2 of her platter and was overwhelming. A smaller platter may have been a better choice. The steak was thin as advertised on the menu but it was overcooked. We like our beef medium rare and this was definitly welldone. So the meal worked but this is not a place that we could recommend nor return to. read more

I've been here for dinner before and it was very good, so I recently went here for lunch with a friend. We ordered a super quesadilla with carne asada. It was not super, a tortilla folded in half with a dab of guacamole and sour creme. The quesadilla was cold and guacamole tasted stale. I ordered some pico de gallo but that also had a stale pickled flavor. We ate most everything but not sure if we'll be back again. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had to be honest. I actually like the taco trucks around town a lot better than Pachanga. I ordered a vegetarian burrito and they put broccoli and carrots in it which I thought was odd no lettuce even which is weird usually veggie burritos are beans, cheese, rice, lettuce and tomato guacamole and salsa simple and delicious but the veggie burrito at Pachanga was a little odd they also use whole beans instead of refried which was also not my normal. Some people might really like the extra veggies but I wasn't partial to them so I wouldn't recommend them as a first option for most people looking for a burrito in eureka. read more

Little mexican joint on the main road. I got the nachos to be safe, so here i go. The chips didn't have salt or grease, but it had a nice corn flavor which i eventually got into, the salsa was more of a burnt chipotle hot sauce than anything. After i got into the chip i believed the nachos would have turned out well but, they didn't stand a chance. The chips were too brittle and thin to hold anything on top and ten seconds into the dish, i had food flying all over the place trying to get at it. Had to use a fork to get anything. Ingredients were decent, however nothing was popping out of the dish, the real let down was the meat, which was scarce, hard to find, and hard to taste. My new favorite veggie burrito! I moved to the area recently and have been looking for a good veggie burrito. Most places (anywhere not just Humboldt co.) have terrible rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream burritos, which are not great. I ordered the fajita burrito, veggie. The veggie mix of carrots, broccoli, and squash were grilled perfectly. The burrito was full of veggies, not too much rice, and so flavorful. There were no onions, which made me very happy. I usually expect to pick them out...but if you love onions, you may want to ask for them. The burritos are huge. I got dinner and lunch out of it. The prices were a little steep but since I got two meals out of it, I'm ok with that. If you are picking up food for the road, the burritos are huge, but doable for driving just choose filling carefully. The veggie fajita burrito would work for road food. Came here with a friend. They didn't specify they put cheese and sour cream on the burritos. This is fine because we probably should've asked, but it was just surprising. We didn't bother making an issue out of it. They put cabbage on everything. The salsa is different than your typical salsa but it was good. Nothing wrong with cabbage. The guacamole is clearly from frozen avocados. I've had frozen avocados and it the taste is very prevalent in their guacamole. I understand though, avocados are kind of expensive currently. The only down parts were the service was kind of bad. We didn't get any service. No one asked if we wanted refills or anything, even though we clearly did. No one stopped by our table or even walked past us. After we ate though, my friend and I got the worst stomach cramps ever. I honestly think this is the best mexican food around here, and good mexican food is hard to find in this area. The staff is beyond friendly and lovely, the place is clean and airy. This was absolutely some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. We went up to NoCal over a week ago to visit the redwoods and drove through Eureka on the way back to Arizona. We came across Pachanga Mexicana by chance. It's a sweet place, almost little at first glance, but it looked like there was an event area, and the whole place felt very homey. I believe I ordered the sope (masa cake with rice in it topped with beans, I think chicken, and sour cream and avocado... maybe guac). Seriously, I could not stop eating. Everything was a delicious flavor--those were the most flavorful beans I have ever had in Mexican cuisine, and now I can't imagine anything else. The textures were all wonderful and mixed well. I still can't believe hoe blown away I was by this place. The next trip up to the PNW we take, I want to make it a point to stop here again! read more

There are many places to get Mexican food in Humboldt. Between many restaurants and food trucks, there are choices abound. I have eaten at the majority of these restaurants multiple times, some of which are very good... but Pachanga is always my absolute favorite. I've had many menu items and all of the food is delicious, well-prepared and authentic. Many of their items and ingredients are completely home-made. Portions of everything are quite filling. Wife and I live for Mexican food and South of the Border eateries... yes, were in Humboldt County now, so the choices are a bit scarce. Pachanga was a total disappointment and possibly even a risky choice. The tortillas were not fresh, in fact my wife said hers was "Rancid" ...the rice was cooked long before it was served, like a few days before. The beans were whole (thank you for that... they were the best part of the meal). I can't recommend this place, we won't return. A favorite mexican places in Humboldt County. The carne asada fajita burritos keep me from running down to the mission in San Francisco. Like everyone else, I love the jalapeno poppers which are made with real jalapeno peppers and come with a fantastic cheese sauce. The margaritas are excellent and they have an excellent choice I've been told (but haven't confirmed) that they use local ingredients and make their tortillas fresh everyday. It sure tastest like it. Oh Pachanga, what can I say. After my friend and I arrived in Eureka late in the evening starving, tried, and freezing (my was it windy!) we decided that we wanted burritos being from Vancouver and Mexican options are limited here. I found Pachanga on Yelp, the reviews seemed good so we decided to hit it up. First of all Oliver was our waiter and he is amazing. We told him how people love him on Yelp and honestly he was one of the best waiters I've had at any restaurant ever. Funny, knows about the food, friendly, and he just makes you feel good. He seems to really love his job. We ordered a pitcher of Margaritas. I don't usually drink them so I can't compare them to much else but Michelle said it was the best margarita she had on our entire road trip. We ordered potato taquitos as an appetizer which I have never had before, delicious. Crisp with warm mashed potatoes inside and delicious spicy and mild salsas to accompany them. Then the burritos. I have never seen a burrito this size in my life. It had to be the same size of the head. Filled with local tofu from Arcata, homemade salsas and they replaced the cheese and sour cream for me with sliced avocado! I only ate about a third of the burrito which was already too much and took the rest to go. Meals for days. All in all an excellent experience. Not too expensive, friendly, delicious, and filling! Check out the Little Red Lion Bar down the street as well if you're there in the evening and there's a show going on, definitely worth it & ask for Oliver, you won't regret it! read more

This place is great! It has a nice seating selection where you aren't on top of other people. The menu is pretty straight forward and not hard to understand. The people who work here are so freaking friendly! Seriously my first time here and I feel like family. Smiles everywhere. Chips were so fresh and crisp, salsa was kinda spiced and bland in a way. We ordered a margarita and the glass is pretty small, not what we were expecting. We also ordered some caso and it was in a smaller container than the salsa which is odd but I can't lie the caso was fab! For the meal my honey ordered a steak taco and a quesadilla, the taco was really plain but a ton of meat was on it. Quesadilla was pretty good, small but good. I ordered a chicken chimichanga it was so good, the shell was so flakey and amazing! The chicken fell apart and it was also filled with rice. I can't lie, although it was good it was very bland as well. I also thought the prices were a bit high for Mexican, typically the good Mexican places are cheap shady and flavorful! This will probably be your best bet at Mexican food in Eureka. That said, it's definitely not in the same league as Mexican food from la mission in San Francisco. They have an extensive menu that covers all your Mexican cravings, but they do cater to the crowd. I, myself, got a carne asada burrito and it was pretty damn good. And humongous... If you try one thing here, you have to try their poppers! Made fresh, not the typical bar food type poppers. Always flavorful, but you never know from one to the next if you're going to get a hot one, or how hot. I've had them from mild to OMG! My wife is a big fan of their Pachangaritas. For beans you can choose from refried (average) or charro (excellent). Huge burritos. Good taco salads. I've enjoyed everything I've tried wth one exception, the chicken mole. It's a half chicken, which obviously needs to be precooked to prepare in a timely manner, and it was way too dry. That's the only thing keeping them from a 5 star rating. read more
