Used to live next door when I first moved to San Diego. It was a nice quaint little spot with excellent service, chill vibes, insanely good food, one bathroom and a loyal local crowd. Fast forward about 14 years, present day, still awesome service, same high vibes, food got better somehow, has 3 bathrooms and has expanded its clientele exponentially. The parking lot that was now shad multiple tables for better service and sitting. Theres still maybe 8 spots to park in the back but, in this neighborhood, street parking isn't too bad. Stopped by today because we were in the area. I ordered the halibut sandwich on the special menu. I had the chipotle glaze and fish shop seasoning on my halibut. It was flavorful and really good. The sandwich was just messy because of all the tartar sauce. My husband had 2 halibut tacos. He ordered his tacos with lettuce and cheese only and the fish with lemon butter. I finally got a chance to try Fish Shop after driving by it for a while and always seeing a big crowd. We went on a Friday night, and thankfully it wasn't too crazy busy. We ordered the poke bowl, and the ahi tuna was some of the freshest we've had! The fish and chips came with 4 big pieces of fish, but unfortunately 2 of the 4 pieces were not good. I got the fish plate, chose snapper, garlic butter sauce, and for two sides I got rice and seaweed salad. I didn't notice they had mixed green veggies or I would've gotten that, but the seaweed salad was good too. The fish was super fresh and delicious, but I wish the garlic butter had more garlic flavor. The fish also didn't seem seasoned much beyond the sauce so some bites were on the plain side. My only complaint about the place is that when eating indoors, I constantly had to swat flies away from my food. It was so often, that it ruined my lunch. One downside of that indoor/outdoor feeling. I came here with a friend on a Thursday during the oyster happy hour and was SOOOO blown away. $1.25 oysters that were so yummy!! The line does get long so come at 4pm if you can. The vibes are great and there are plenty of tables inside and outside we sat on the outside patio and the food is brought to by a buzzer. It comes out fairly quickly. As for the food: My favorite oyster type was the Mintersweet. It was sweet and not too briny. I love to add the horseradish vinegar and a little bit of Tabasco. The other star of the show was the shrimp and chips. They were so crispy and the shrimp was a great size. The fries are really good as well. Came because the reviews drew me in. Loved all the space available to eat and I love that you could bring your dog in if you wanted to eat with you. Loved the extensive menu and the various options. Didn't like that the shrimp boil wasn't available on the day I went. Loved that they have an easy to find bathroom, but didn't like that it was right where you ordered. The service was nice and quick. Luckily the crowd came after us so we didn't have to wait too long for our food. The food was ok. The scallops plate was great. My husband really enjoyed that. Been here a dozen times but this is my first review. Their taco quality has declined a bit. It's loaded with slaw over protein. The flavor is still there. I think I like the garlic-lemon marinade. I usually go swordfish? The other day I changed the game. I went with a scallop sandwich on sourdough with avocado. Grade A quality. When you can fry a scallop but maintain its "moist" nature you win. The only downside is that there wasn't enough tartar sauce and I paid a couple more bucks for 2 slices of small avocado though. We always always get the fish shop shrimp here and it always meets and exceeds expectations. It's salty, its slighly spicy, the shrimp are of large size, and that dipping sauce is muah, delicious. Super laid back chill spot.Eagles are playing right now and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and their food. There is limited parking in back of restaurant and street parking available in front. Covered patio dining area in front of restaurant and another good sized patio area with umbrellas in back. We ordered at the counter. I ordered a blackened halibut taco with avocado and sides were broccoli, cauliflower and carrots and side salad (mixed greens) with citrus vinaigrette. Hubs ordered seafood lumpia (4 pcs) with small amount of brown rice underneath. The counter server was pleasant and helpful with choosing of sides. Our food was out in minutes and it was all very good. I will add that for the price ($40) it's not a lot of food but it was quality food! We happened upon this space and aside from very limited parking lot (lots of street parking available) this was a great spot!! There are so many spots to sit, inside, outside, lots of umbrellas and awnings for the outside seats. The benches inside are comfy too. We ordered from counter, they give you a number and then they bring the food to you. Everyone was so kind and helpful. I asked lots of questions and the lady taking our order was happy to answer them and make suggestions. Which I appreciated for our first time here. Picking the tacos may seem overwhelming, but just pick combos with your heart! Haha. My favorite was the salmon with teriyaki glaze. I Also did shrimp with garlic rub (i think) both on corn tortillas. The toppings that come with them and added avocado (extra $1.50) made them all so yummy. We had a nice lunch at the Fish Shop in PB, and it was fantastic! I chose a Salmon Taco on a corn tortilla with the chipotle glaze. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the glaze was exactly as described on the menu, a sweet and smoky glaze with a medium spice. Becky went with the Jumbo Shrimp Taco with garlic butter marinade in a flour tortilla. It too was a delicious taco. Both were dressed very well with shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, mixed cheeses and house cilantro white sauce. Just enough to compliment the fish, not obscure it. To round out our plates we ordered the jasmine rice, fries, coleslaw and macaroni salad. (Two sides per plate). They all hit. Fries were hot and crispy, the rice was excellent fluffy and light, creamy coleslaw and really good mac salad. Service at the outdoor patio bar was great. Had a great time at the Fish Shop. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't too full for a Friday night so we only had to wait in a short line to order. There isn't much seating available inside so we got a table in the extended outdoor area which was spacious and comfortable with the heated lamps. I love how many options there are on the menu and there are plenty of specials throughout the week. We opted for a couple of tacos, the Halibut fish and chips (Fry-day special) and some sides of macaroni salad and clam chowder. Our only problem was that the macaroni salad was dry so it wouldn't be something we order again. However, everything else was great. The fish and chips were so big and the breading was so crispy, tasted amazing with the tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I can't wait to come again and explore the menu more. read more

I wanted to give it more stars. I'll start with what was good. There were four of us in our party and we all got the standard fish and chips. It was good food, fresh, good batter, and scratched the itch of wanting some good o'l fish and chips. We went on a really hot day. It's open door so no AC and the inside is hotter than outside as long as there's a decent breeze. They do have fans. Worst part for me was the lame amount tartar sauce every single one of us received. Small dish only halfway filled. It was out after the first fillet/ fillet and a half. There wasn't a good way to request more because they're really busy, have a long line to order, and they're preoccupied taking those orders. A go to place for my husband and I in Pacific Beach! We absolutely LOVE their ceviche!!! We like to get it mixed so we get mahi mahi and shrimp in it. That is a must whenever we go here. There's always a good amount of the shrimp and mahi mahi in it with all the other ingredients mixing together perfectly. I also really love their fresh chips! The Tko taco is one of my favorites and my husband loves the fish shop shrimp. Service has always been great here! It can get busy and the line to order can get long, but it never has taken too long for us to get our food. There is SO much outdoor seating here which we love as well as quite a bit of indoor seating (there's a lot more outdoor). You get a table buzzer for them to know where to bring your food out to and have a designated place to put it on each table which is neat. They have water cups you can ask for if you are staying inside or outside they have a water cooler area as well as a spot with to-go containers, napkins, utensils, etc. It is always very clean and organized inside and outside. They also have a loyalty program which is neat! My husband and I love coming here to get the mixed ceviche as well as trying other delicious menu items. Park your vehicle across the street at the side lot of CVS and run like you are playing a real life game of Frogger. If you are indecisive, look at the menu posted outside and then get in line. There is a high probability of changing your mind the longer you wait in line. That is what happened to me. I walked in with one thing in mind and by the time I got to the front of the line, my order was different. You place your order at the register, find a seat and it is brought to you. They have these high tech trackers located throughout the restaurant so they know where you are. Pretty cool. When I got to the register, I knew I had to get the Thursday special of 5 shrimp cocktail for $5. The shrimp were fresh. The cocktail sauce was spicier than expected. I also got the Elote taco on a corn tortilla with avocado added. When it arrived, it was much bigger than a traditional fish taco. Extremely messy. The fish wasn't quite was I was hoping for. It was a little on the dry side but the corn and avocado helped to save it. The last item on my tasting menu was the coconut shrimp. I enjoyed this the best out of everything I ate. It was very tasty. The coconut coated the shrimp well and didn't overpower it. The dipping sauce was good compliment. 4 shrimp come in an order. A small serving of jasmine rice also came with it. It was fine but I didn't really eat it. I miss not really interacting with the wait staff but they kept the tables clean and clear for new customers. I sat outside on the patio along bar like seating facing the street so I could people watch as I was dining solo. It's all about their incredibly fresh fish. You know this place is good based on the line continually snaking out the restaurant and through the patio! We came for tacos around 7:00 pm on a Thursday and the line to order wrapped halfway around the building. Despite the long queue, things moved fairly quickly (~30 min before we ordered at the counter). I appreciated that the servers will occasionally come down the line to see if anyone needs a libation while they wait!
