I have three kids at different ages and skill levels, and she has helped every one of them become water safe while continuing to build their strength and confidence in the water. She truly customizes each lesson based on how they're progressing and always challenges them to go a little further. Nicole, the owner, is also fantastic with communication and keeps everything running smoothly. The pool is nice and warm, and there's plenty of seating for parents to comfortably watch. Miss Annicka has been working with my 2.5 almost 3 year old daughter since June and she has been such a valuable teacher to her in more ways than just water safety and skills, She has worked with my daughter on her emotional regulation and has developed such a special relationship with her. I've had both of my kids enrolled here for about a year and could not recommend it more! Nicole is incredibly knowledgeable and places water safety above all else. So far we've had such a great experience with Pacific Blue swim lessons. At home we could not get our 5 year old out of his floatation device. After 1 lesson, he gained the confidence to leave the floaty behind and start using safe swim skills learned in lessons at home. He's doing amazing! I only have positive things to say about Nicole and her teaching style. My daughter didn't like water on her face at all (even in the bathtub). They never show any frustration towards kids, always finding positive comments to keep kids spirits up and wanting to keep trying. Cannot say enough positive things about Pacific Blue Swimming Lessons. The owner/teacher team of Shannon and Nick are wonderful people and instructors. They are patient, kind, and knowledgeable in giving lessons. They know how to push the kids to improve while not overwhelming them. Seriously could not have been a better experience! I had my two kids (aged 1.5 and 3.5 years) split a half-hour lesson with Teacher Nick. My son (the 3.5 year-old) went for about 20 minutes and my daughter went for about 10 minutes. Both improved so much, especially my son. Within 2 months, he went from not being able to swim at all to being able to go almost across their pool by himself. Now that it's summer, they have been swimming in our own pool and have improved even more, but I give all the thanks to Teacher Nick who first got them comfortable in the water and gave them the basics. We will enroll the kids next spring again. Thank you Pacific Blue! P.S. They also have a cute little playroom with a train table and toys plus a bathroom/changing room. Nick is literally HEAVEN sent! My daughter for the longest time has been afraid with strangers. The first 10 minutes of the lesson she was screaming. Nick was so amazing and calm. Once she calmed down she actually within her first lesson started doing more than what I thought she would do. Nick has a soothing and calming voice that any child will love him. I'm sure Nicole is an adequate swim teacher for typical children. However, I don't have typical boys. I've adopted two of my grandsons who were exposed to drugs in utero and have many behavioral and physical problems. My older grandson has cerebral palsy, hypotonia, ADHD and impulse control problems. My younger grandson also has ADHD, impulse control issues and coordination problems. I'm doing all that I can to give the boys the best possible childhoods. One of my hopes for these boys is to get them to become swimmers. I've tried Roseville City swim lesson and Sea Otter, but the pools have so many other swimmers and distractions, the boys weren't able to stay focused. Someone who had a special needs child recommended Pacific Blue lessons to me, but they were recommending the previous owners. Nicole had taken over their business and when I spoke to her, she assured me that she, like the previous owners, was experienced with teaching special needs children how to swim. Once we were able to begin lessons with her, I was hopeful that her private pool and lack of distractions would really benefit the boys. I dragged them to lessons almost every Monday evening for well over a year, and while they've made progress, it has been painstakingly slow. I did not sugar-coat anything about the boys and their behavior problems when we began, and Nicole assured me she was ready and willing to deal with these challenges because she was so good at teaching kids with special needs. Well... she's not. She did not handle the poor behavior choices the boys on occasion showed and developed an impatient and grumpy demeanor with both of them. She would often continue talking to the families of swimmers who had lessons right before us into our $75 half hour swim lesson and would end our lessons before a whole half hour of time had been given. Yep, bad on me, because I wasn't happy with these lessons for quite some time, but I continued to drag the boys to her because I knew they weren't going to learn anything at other larger facilities, and I was seeing these tiny increments of progress. The final straw was the aggressive billing tactics she uses each month to collect her payments. I have paid for these swim lesson every month at the beginning of each month. I explained to Nicole several times that I get paid on the last day of the month , and I will pay her after I get paid. Her billing "system" sends an invoice on the 22nd of each month, and then more reminders and threats that she can not hold the lesson spot if bill is not paid. Yesterday morning before 7am, she texted me that I needed to pay immediately or I would lose our lesson spot. I quickly responded and asked if she would email me another invoice and I would pay right then. She responded with another text that she would send me another invoice this one last time, but in the future if I couldn't pay her by the 22nd of the month for the upcoming month's lessons , she couldn't keep "hounding" me to pay her. What?!!! She had just texted me a week ago that she understood when I got paid and that I could pay her after I was paid. I paid her every single month at the same time, very regularly... no need to "hound" me, but umm yea whatever. Apparently quick reminder texts and resending an invoice which I thought were a common business courtesy, were very challenging tasks for her and constituted "hounding" me. So yes, at the end, she seemed very "billing" aggressive so I don't know maybe she is having some kind of financial problems or something? Also she sent several unprofessional texts about the boys and their "violent and inappropriate behaviors" and how their behavior wasn't "controlled" as if I'm not doing everything I can to help them get these behaviors under control. Yes, I'm frequently mortified by the shocking things they sometimes do, and I'm very sorry for any trauma they caused her, but she always could have said , hey, I can't teach your kids, and stopped taking my $ every month. Perhaps this whole billing weirdness at the end was just some ploy to drop the boys from lessons because they ARE very challenging, but it would have been a lot more professional to just say that it wasn't working out and she didn't want to give them lessons anymore. read more
