I can't believe my wife and I have lived down the street from this place for almost five years and hadn't tried it until today. We ordered the PCH Dog (onion, mustard, chili) chili cheese fries (extra cheese), and a chocolate banana first. I'd forgotten to order cheese on my hot dog, and the gentleman was so cool to still give me the cheese even though there's a $1 charge. Both the PCH dog and the chili cheese fries were AMAZING. If you've been to Tommy's, the chili has a similar consistency. The extra cheese was top notch. The fries were excellent, not soggy or overdone. The chocolate banana shake was superb, the Thifty ice cream and fresh bananas (which the gentleman checked to ensure they had them before fulfilling the order) made the shake taste just as good as any ice cream shop. Loved being able to sit at the tables outside, made for an easy place to order, eat, and head home. I have driven by this little hot dog stand many times. It always seemed there were people sitting at the tables enjoying the food. I was looking forward to giving this a try. We stopped by on a Monday in the middle of the afternoon to give it a try. We had a Chicago Dog, a Chili Dog, plain fries and a vanilla ice cream cone. It seemed old school to order at the walk up window. The food was prepared while you waited. The person who took our order also prepared our food. (Tongs and other implements were used handling the food but some direct touching occurred. I would suggest the staff wear gloves.) The kitchen looked clean. Our food was ready quickly. I was told that the Chicago Dog was good. I had the Chili Dog with cheese. It was okay. The chili had good flavor. Based on prior reviews, I was expecting that signature snap when I bit into the dog. I was disappointed that it was not there. The vanilla ice cream was great. The fries were fresh and hot. This place is on a busy street so it can get rather loud sitting outside. I was in the area today and decided to give Pacific Coast Hot Dogs a chance. I ordered a PCH Dog which includes chili, mustard and onions with a Hoffy Dog. The dog had a great snap and flavor, I just felt the chili was on the bland side. I also got a side of chili cheese fries and the portion was huge and included a generous amount of shredded cheese. This has been my go-to place for hot dogs for years because they had that "snap" when you bite into them that you get with the best street dogs in NYC. But today was very disappointing. I ordered a New York Dog. Eagerly bit into it... no snap!! More of a mushy bite. It was fun to enjoy a few great dogs while jamming to some classic surfing tunes from the '50s and '60s playing on the sound system. I went with two dogs: a chili cheese dog and a barbecue bacon dog. These aren't the big beefy dogs you find at ball games, they're the longer, thinner kind, but they had an awesome snap and a really good flavor. The barbecue bacon dog was amazing. The sautéed onions and grilled jalapeños blended together perfectly. The barbecue sauce was super sweet and tangy, and the pickle slice work great also. Def a really great hotdog! I normally don't go for chili dogs, but I read that this was their #1 seller and a definite go-to. They were right. The chili was surprisingly creamy, which is kind of a weird way to describe chili. The onions, cheese, and mustard all came together really well. I don't remember the last time I had mustard on a chili dog, but honestly, it made it better. We've always loved coming here. It's been awhile so we were excited to stop by for lunch. I don't know if it was an off day but it was so disappointing. The hotdogs are different now, they don't have that great snap they used to have. I ordered a BBQ bacon dog, and once we got home there was no BBQ sauce and no Bacon on the hotdog.. why? Also, there were barely any French fries in the bag and the ones inside were way, way overcooked. We ended up throwing them away. Service was good and it's such a cute little spot. Been a minute lol Usually when I get food poisoning from a spot I never go back but I pass this place all the time when I take my puppy to the vet and hot dogs are always on my brain lol so why not give them a second chance.
