Overcooked tamale. I guess it's hit or miss.
    Bobby G.

I haven't been by for a while but the quality had diminished dramatically. I got 4 chicken taquitos and 2 green chicken tamales. The ate one chicken taquito but halfway through the second I could taste an old refrigerated after taste. If you know, you know. Not freshly made. Through the rest in trash. I then ate one of the tamales and then started on the second only to notice that they were probably old too. Over cooked. On one side. So that went into the trash as well. The service was stellar. They made a mistake on my order and corrected it right away without hesitation. There's lots of room to relax and enjoy you meal. Mine was just not fresh at all today. I guess I'll cook at home tonight.

El Molino de Oro is one of those places we keep coming back to because it never lets us down. This visit, I ordered the 2-taco combination with carne asada, which comes with beans and rice. The asada was flavorful and well-seasoned, and the beans and rice were classic. My boyfriend went with the carnitas burrito, and it was packed with tender, juicy carnitas and generous portions all around. We also grabbed a flaky pastry in the attached bakery (I didn't catch the name), but it was perfectly buttery and light. Service is always friendly and efficient, even when they're busy, and the vibe feels very local and welcoming. If you're looking for solid Mexican food with consistency you can count on, this is a must.

If you are hungry for breakfast and you spot a busy Mexican place, open early, with guys in fluorescent long sleeve shirts standing in line, you must stop. The food is going to be good, cheap and filling, All the breakfast specialities are well under $10. Chilaquiles, breakfast bolillos, tacos, tacos dorado de chorizo, etc. Fresh aguas frescas (that's redundant) and an entire bakery section of Mexican sweet breads and pastries. Today I had a machaca bollilo, it had beans, shredded beef and real egg on a soft roll, It was as filling as a typical breakfast burrito and less than $5. I have been here several times and it never disappoints.

My lady and I were hungry, and she recommended El Molino de Oro. They have two sides. One for pastries, and the other for food. I didn't visit the pastry side, but it was packed. The food side was packed as well. My lady ordered some breakfast items; I had an Asada taco and the 3-cheese enchilada combo. She had some Mexican beverage I had a can of Coke. I wanted a fountain drink but the machine wasn't working. I think it will be fixed after the repairman fixes the frosty machine at McDonalds. I loved my food. As simple as cheese enchiladas are some places just don't get it. The are perfect here. The Asada taco was loaded with meat. I used some of the meat in my rice and beans. My tummy was very happy. My lady also loved her food. I really recommend this place and I'll be back soon.

El Molino de Oro is one of my favorite places to eat. Their tacos and burritos de lengua and buches are amazing, full of flavor and always fresh. The service is great, everyone is friendly, and the restaurant is always clean.

    Caldo de res

This is one of my favorite places to go to when I'm craving Mexican food. I've always liked coming here, but I was recently wowed by their caldo de res. I usually don't crave caldos, but I decided to try it since I was sick and it was so cold. The caldo de res was incredible! 10/10- so authentic, comforting, and delicious! It was as good as the caldos I've tried in Mexico and really tastes homemade. The meat they use is so tender, the broth is flavorful, and it comes with plenty of vegetables. They give you a large portion too. I loved how the caldo came with finely chopped pieces of onion, cilantro, rice, and limes as well. I now look forward to also trying their caldo de pollo and albondigas. Other than the caldo, their chile relleno is amazing! It was pretty perfect imo. I'm a huge fan of chile relleno, and theirs has just the right amount of cheese inside and egg coating on the outside of the chile. Their chiles are also not undercooked or overcooked and come with a delicious sauce. The caldo de res and chile relleno are some of my favorite items; however, this restaurant has so much more to offer. They have great options including breakfast, pan dulce, coffee, champurrado, aguas frescas, and so many traditional Mexican dishes. The servers and cashier are friendly and the restaurant is clean. There is plenty of seating inside and usually parking in the parking lot right in front. Definitely a go-to spot for Mexican food in Orange.

Start cleaning out underneath your table pushing you out as fast as they can. The bar just closes down not even announcing a last call. And what is with those awful margaritas. I can't believe that a Michelin feathered Mexican restaurant can serve such awful margaritas. And I am not alone as I mentioned it to another Restaurant crowd and they agreed and said they were probably the worst margaritas in Orange. I don't know whether it's the mix or the amount of alcohol or what it is but they come out watery and really sour. A totally good dining experience has to encompass everything, food is only 50% of the deal the other 50% is service with a smile, and this one lacks it. Now there could be a reason for this epic shutdown at 9 PM. But I wonder what it is? Santa Monica seafood in Santa Monica on Wilshire Boulevard has to have last orders in by 8:30 because if they are not closed out by 10 o'clock entirely, the neighbors complain that they are putting out trash and making a noise after 10 so that I understand. But it took me a year to find that out from the owners. Restaurant owners are so stuck up and anal, I know I was one. Gabbi, whom I have never seen, should spend a night or two watching her Restaurant closing up.

The beans did not taste watered down, and the enchiladas themselves were flavorful. I always worry about shrimp overpowering the sides of a dish but it tasted great. The rice was also really filling. We had a reservation and they seated us at a pretty big table, which I liked. The servers were very timely, kind, and knowledgeable about each dish on the menu and the rotating specials. The inside of the restaurant was HUGE. I'm pretty sure it was built inside of a church. I really liked the stained glass and elevated seating areas nearby, it reminded me of the Old Spaghetti Factory layout in Fullerton. Overall, I had a very positive experience. I had to get a Diet Coke and of course, it was crisp to my expectations. A little heads-up, unlike the Costa Mesa location, they do not have horchata. But once again one has this perfunctory service, that is service that is merely to get through a night and not to enhance a dining experience. So many restaurants now seem to have the same problem, that is servers who just want to get through the evening and get it over with. The service industry has really taken a dive since my day. I don't get it. Don't they get paid more than they used to just a year or two ago. Anyway, I do enjoy the Camerones. But, the dreadful flan that I was served. This is such a basic desert and very easy to make, but one can overcook the egg proteins easily and the whole thing is grainy, scrambled and not pleasant to eat.
