I spend a lot of time in fabric stores, and I don't think it's a far stretch to say that this store has, by far, the WORST help of any fabric store in Seattle. You would think that the older women that work there (specifically one named Loretta. If you see an older woman with large glasses and long white hair past her waist just leave and come back some other time) would bother to give at least decent service to someone who comes in several times a month and spends usually $100+ during each visit, but apparently that's too much to ask. For example: walking off to start a lengthy conversation about nothing with other coworkers mid cutting fabric for a customer, the complete inability/refusal to find anything if you happen to require assistance, and my personal favorite: Loretta completely refusing to uphold the other stores policies on remnants and remnant pricing. Don't even ask: you'll just get a blank stare and the flat response: "Uhhhh remnants come from the remnant table...." Well, where do you think they come from before that.... I mean really. If it wasn't for this store's large variety of realistic looking faux furs I would never, EVER come back. The sign says outlet but don't let that fool you- for the most part it's just the warehouse that time forgot; full of products at full price that failed to sell at their other locations. Oh, and by the way, if you're thinking of visiting for that specific reason keep this in mind: they blew through a lot of that stock during Halloween- so they don't have a good selection anymore. For faux fur I recommend: www.plushfurs.com or if you buy wholesale: http://www.shannonfabrics.com I found out that the fantastic fur that comes from Pacific Fabrics originates from this company, so if you have a business license, save yourself a huge headache, and just order from them instead. Or if you like to shop locally, there's always Stitches on Capitol Hill, Nancy's Sewing Basket, or the good ol' standby, JoAnn Fabrics. Or even the Pacific Fabrics in Northgate. ...Pretty much anywhere but here. ****UPDATE: I just went in 2 weeks ago to get a piece of faux fur since I ran out of my wholesale roll. I asked the woman at the cutting counter politely if she could cut the piece instead of tearing it because on a smaller (approximately 1.5 yd) piece it would pull it off grain and I would have to re-block it with steam when I got home. Her reply: "I don't know do you have all day?" Awesome. The fabric is 60" wide- hardly a ridiculously arduous task. You'd think I had asked her to personally drive to another store and bring something back for me. I don't know where these good service reviews are coming from, but that's certainly not been my experience now or at any other point. read more

These reviewers just don't get it, but I guess that's what happens when you talk to people that are new to the area -- with no history to draw on. sigh. This is NOT a conventional fabric store. This is their OUTLET STORE. It's been funky since day 1 back in the 60s when it was all remnants piled high on a table in the middle of "Pacific Iron & Metal". This is the location you go to search for odd stuff, closeouts, and specialty bits, and supplies. Don't go there expecting a slick big fabric store, you'll be disappointed. But if you're in the mood for a fun scavenger hunt with a nice selection of quilting fabrics, home dec. and upholstery you'll like it here. For some reason this is always the first fabric store I go to. It's mostly seconds and bolt-ends so it's really cheap and sometimes you can find some really cool stuff. This is a utilitarian fabric store - big, dusty, and drafty, in a warehouse-type building in SODO. read more

DEFINITELY NOT A HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE STORE IF YOU GO THERE ON WEEKENDS OR AFTER 5pm ON A WEEKDAY. You have to climb up these nasty, dirty, decrepit stairs that have a handrail that seems as though it is about to come out of the wall!! Well that just cries out LAWSUIT to me!! Then, on top of that.........the floor is so uneven and crappy! Been filled in with some kind of epoxy or whatever. Asked the Crabby Lady what people do to get up and down the stairs and she said that they have to use a freight elevator during daytime hours during the weekdays. Well, Hello SUNSHINE...........not everyone can get to your store during those times, and I certainly will not be making it my life's mission to come back to your dirty, dusty, musty, overpriced store during those daytime hours....................or ANY OTHER. read more

This is a very interesting, but not conventional, fabric store. I have been here many times, tho' not so frequently that they know me or anything. Employees have never been rude to me. They may not always offer help but if I ask for something I have gotten a helpful reply. The upholstery selection is pretty good, and if you're a quilter they have a lot to choose from. Of the common fabric varieties for clothing they seem to have a remarkably high ugly to attractive fabric ratio This store seems to specialize in the oddball end of thngs; if you are looking for high end fabric you probably won't find it. But I find it a fun place to browse and poke around, and have bought a variety of things here including notions, hairbands, as well as fabric.It has a fair amount of crafty stuff, but if you want real variety and selection go to Michaels or similar for that. I like the warehouse,-not chain-store-antiseptic, feel it has. read more

Unbelievably great help today, despite it being a busy sale day, from Karen, who helped us novices figure out how much we needed to make curtains, how to line them, and gave us tips for sewing. Awesome. Found very cute prints for my daughter's bedroom comforter cover and curtains. read more
