The process of purchasing a home can be stressful. There are forms/contract to be reviewed, signed and timelines to be made in the process. An area that helps the buyer in determining the purchase is the home inspection. We contracted Pacific Inspection Group to help us with the home inspection and lead paint testing. Our decision to go with this company were three fold. The first was the positive reviews on Yelp. The second was their ability to do the certified home inspection and lead paint testing. And third, the quick response and service they provided. They were able to do the home inspection within the timelines. Tom (owner) was quick to answer our many questions. He was able to schedule our inspection within our timeline and assigned Scot who did the inspection of this home. The report was done electronically. It was thorough with descriptors, pictures, and standard grading. The report summarized marginal areas that would need addressing. Pacific Inspection used a systemic approach in their assessment. Scot called me after completing the inspection and went over some of the findings. He also shared the lead paint sampling and where he took them. We received an official home inspection report that evening. The lead paint sampling was sent out to a Pro-Lab site in Texas. That test took about two weeks. We are happy with the service that Tom and Scot at Pacific Inspection Group provided. We would highly recommend them to family and friends who are in need of a home inspection. NO ALOHA! Absolutely unprofessional & lazy inspections. Scot did an inspection on the home I just purchased and it was apparent that he was doing the bare minimum. He didn't even bother to go in the upstairs attic. All he did was point out the obvious and blindly walked through the home. I chose to go through them because according to their website they claim to offer "the most thorough, detailed, and professional inspections on the island". Which is the complete opposite of what I received and paid for. After I got the keys to the home I learned that the toilet leaks when it flushes, the tub diverter doesn't work, kitchen faucet doesn't work, several bedroom outlets were missing and inoperable, and all the GFCI plugs didn't work as well. So I called Tom the owner and he was blatantly disrespectful and careless. Not once did he try to apologize or show any understanding. He told me that they don't check all the electrical outlets and they due random checks. Then he lied and said my water pump didn't work so that's why he couldn't check all my plumbing. But yet, the inspection pictures clearly shows water coming out of my bathroom faucets. When I brought up the promises stated on his website he told me "you should've paid $2,500 for a more through inspection". So I guess he's in the business of ripping people off and taking advantage of locals. I politely asked for a refund and he told me "No, and you can take any legal action you want and just to let you know I have sued for defamation in the past". Well, that statement explains a lot. What a sorry excuse for a business owner. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had. Not only did I pay for horrible service, now I have to pay for all the issues the inspector carelessly overlooked. I will be sure to warn all my friends and family of this. Scott is a true professional. We recently had an inspection for a home we are in escrow on and Scott was able to thoroughly inspect the house and provide us with helpful details on the entire structure. If your purchasing a home and want the best independent inspection who is thorough and will be honest and work for the buyers instead of the realtors just to make a sale then Tom is the top and correct choice. We purchased a home in HPP and the sellers described their home being in tip top condition while doing no preventive maintenance was quite a surprise for them with the minor issues that they felt were not necessary but was able to finalize at closing. Tom Burgess of Pacific Inspection Group performed a home inspection for us last week on a 30 year old house in Ka'u. I had high expectations to start, based on former customer reviews, the extremely professional website content, and my lengthy pre-inspection conversations with Tom. Even with those high expectations, Tom blew us away! He spent nearly four hours at the property, very carefully examining EVERYTHING, down to the proverbial "gnat's eyelash"! I accompanied him through much of the house and outbuildings, and he patiently pointed out each and every potential maintenance or repair issue, current and future! When he had finished, he graciously spent time sitting down with us and the home sellers, outlining again the inspection results, and answering EVERY question we had! Only a day later, we received his full, incredibly detailed written inspection report, loaded with color photographs of every single issue listed within the report. Reading another review below from 2017...all too familiar. Pacific Inspection Group, the non attic inspection company. Pattern here? We had PIG out to do full inspection. Had they taken ONE more step up the ladder into the attic, right in front of them, at arm's length was a leaking a/c unit and extensive mold damage that had been going on for well over a year and a half. So, I can not recommend this company. Unless they exclude attics all together from their scope of inspection, you'd better be following close behind inspector. They also missed holes in catchment cover and told us how "pristine" everything looked. Yeah, ok. We were counting on you because we have someone VERY allergic to black mold. Even paid more for air samples. I'd sure love to know where the heck those samples were actually taken. Lol! Queue Tom, the owner, who tried to refund me when I reached out and have me sign something to shut me up. Nope. I'd rather warn people to stay away from your company. Also, no walking back or discounting anything I've said as the sellers and two agents all signed affidavits to day of conversations with inspector. Seller's watched to your inspector stuck his camera above his head to the attic and asked, "aren't you going up there?" Shame on you Tom, shame. Do. Better PIG. read more

We had our house inspected by Tom and it has come to our attention that the attic part of the inspection was overlooked. We paid extra to have him come out to Holualoa and then later find out we didn't get a whole house inspection. Tom stated he looked into the attic, however he never used a ladder in the house to reach the attic, (except to turn a smoke detector off in the front part of the house)nor did he know there was a fan in the area in question that we later had questions about. Tom seems like a nice guy and had good suggestions, but we feel we paid more than necessary and didn't have the entire house looked at as thoroughly as we had originally thought. I guess the attic isn't included in this home inspection. The ohana was also included in his original bid. read more

Tom inspected my home in Pahoa, Ainaloa subdivision. He was prompt, extremely thorough & really personable during our inspection. He is an expert, but he made everything really easy to understand to me, who doesn't know much about construction. He found small details that I completely missed. He explained the necessary repairs to myself & the sellers in an understandable, straight-forward way. I contacted Pacific Inspection Group as a referral from my realtor - I was given this referral as well as several other home inspection service providers to do a home inspection on a property that was in escrow. I reviewed most of the service providers online and read reviews (if they were available). I was impressed with the reviews Pacific Inspection Group (e.g. Tom Burgess) received, so I contacted him. I immediately felt at ease and comfortable that he would be able to provide the home inspection needed on the property I was considering purchasing. He directed me to the website to complete a time available for the inspection. He showed up a few minutes early to the inspection and met with me on the key areas he identified he would highlight in his report. He was very knowledgable and pleasant to talk with. The report was submitted to me via PDF the next day. I thought the report was very professionally done, and was very helpful in getting a detailed description of the property. I then shared the inspection report with a family member who commented he thought it was a very detailed and thorough inspection report, and also thought the pictures that highlighted some of the areas of concern were very helpful.
