Procedure at Dental Specialties Feb 2023: One star is generous. Was called by the front office…read moreadmin 10 days before the procedure - she let me know that DSNW had decided to no longer be a provider in Delta Dental Insurance Provider program, but not to worry as "these things" take months before the Delta Dental Insurance updates their provider listings, so what i had budgeted was to be fine. Day of appt - prior to start of procedure - I was given the total to pay upfront, which was the total for a provider NOT in the Delta Dental Insurance program. I paid in full (no choice) and was over charged by several hundred $ as my invoice contained a sedative I did not receive. During my 2 follow up visits (in Feb) - there still was never a check waiting for me at reception. Long story short - my refund still as of 4/30/23 has never been mailed or auto deposited into my checking. My emails asking for the status are either ignored or given a cursory dismissive statement. My claim is underway with the WA State Dental Board.

During my first consultation with Dr. Spoor I was unsure of what he could even do for me. My teeth were fine, sure I had a few spots on my front two but they had always been there. I had had the Zoom whitening done before so the spots were less noticeable. I was kind of thinking lets do some Invisalign (my teeth were pretty much straight) and redo the whitening and I will be happy. Dr. Spoor and I talked, he took some molds of my teeth and set up an appointment to talk about our options a week or so later. At the next appointment I was blown away. He had obviously put some thought into what my teeth could be. He had a few options we talked through, from not very much work to a lot more work. We decided on somewhere in the middle. I wish I could attach pictures of the before and after but I honestly get compliments on my smile all the time and no one ever thinks I have 8 veneers... Dr. Spoor is just that good! My new teeth fit my mouth and life perfectly. Plus I had little to no pain throughout the entire process. I know others that had gotten veneers and had lots of trouble but not if Dr. Spoor is the man doing the work! While most people hate going to the dentist I was actually sad when my process was over (consultation to final appointment about 6 months) because everyone there is great and I actually had fun even when I was in the dentist chair for hours!! I still go back for my cleanings and recommend the office to anyone that even mentions the dentist!

To be fair, my anti-dental stand is rooted in trauma, pun intended, but there was no ego at Fresh Smile, just a genuine desire to help their patients and do good work. Go here, folks. Especially if you have any fears. I like that they still mask at this office. I got Covid in late 2025 and it was one of my worst experiences, so it felt good that this place is still minimizing transmission of all respiratory bugs through PPE and lots of HEPA air filtration. I felt safe going here which for me, is rare. I have NEVER had a dental workup like this. My first clue were the intake questions. I usually hate filling those forms, but these questions were intelligent and caring. Then, Dr. Prakash and Tula gathered extensive data on my mouth. X-ray equipment was top of the line and thorough, and the office has tools which created a 3d scan of my bite. This built a computer model of my teeth that can be used for appliance formation or to reference future changes. Cutting edge stuff. Although the past 5 years somewhat ravaged my mouth, I feel confident that this team will get me back to the best dental health I can achieve. The office is easily accessible on Capitol Hill. There is dedicated parking. Costs were reasonable, and Dr. Prakash showed a willingness to work with my finances which was great. If you need to find a kind, technically proficient, up to date dental office, you can't do better than Fresh Smile.

I first started seeing Dr. Markeson after I moved to Seattle from AZ, where I had a dentist who tried to give me 4 crowns (got a 2nd opinion in AZ). In my youth I also had sort of negative dentist experiences causing me to avoid the dentist if possible. Dr. Markeson took the time to explain procedures (he recommended fixing my old fillings by replacing them with new fillings) and definitely took the time to let me ask questions and address any concerns. I visited his office regularly for dental cleanings and also Invisalign. I actually tried to continue coming to the office once I got married and moved to Tacoma, but alas! My dental insurance changed and it seemed like a big effort to make it the distance with a small child at home. I recently visited Dr Markeson for a cleaning again. There was a small mixup where I thought my insurance could work, but it didn't. I paid out of pocket for my dental cleaning and got to ask Dr Markeson some questions about dental procedures that a dentist in Tacoma was recommending. I felt a lot more informed when I left. Also I brought my small kiddo to hang out and use an iPad while I had my appt, no issues! My dental cleaning and x rays were thorough and easy, no issues.
