My son was only a baby, with tiny little teeth when we first came to Pacific Pediatric Dentistry. It was convenient being situated right next door to his doctor, and at the time his dentist Dr. Walker was absolutely wonderful with him. Fast forward 15 years, and we have two patients at PPD. We also went through the transition of Dr. Walker leaving and Dr. You coming on board. She is a very sweet person, but eventually, the last couple years to be exact, she's made quite a few changes to the practice that have been quite frustrating, especially to a middle class working family. The first issue was when I went to call and cancel an appointment, so I could reschedule, I thought I was calling two days in advance, but apparently they go all the way down to the second when cancelling. So had I called just a mere hour earlier, I would have been good. So I had to call out sick to avoid the cancellation fee. The second issue was, the billing, I've always had my bill just sent to the house and then I paid it. It gave me a chance to set money aside for it, and then pay it. Apparently, they don't bill patients anymore, you have to pay the full bill up front. I told them straight up I couldn't pay, I wasn't gonna put it on a credit card either, they either had to bill me or not get payed at all. They finally gave in since I had good credit history with them. The third incident was just recently, today. The nail in the coffin. We had an appointment today, and my 15 year old was getting some cavities filled. My daughter had recently asked to not have nitrous because it makes her feel sick. So I figured if she could do it, my 15 year old could go without as well. So we told my so to ask for no nitrous, which he did. He told them in the room he did not want the nitrous, and they told him they had to use it, and went ahead and used it anyways. So I was pretty upset that he had specifically asked for no nitrous and they went ahead and used it. At this point I'm actively looking for a new dentist, someone who is willing to work with us on scheduling, billing and willing to listen to my child when it comes to telling them what he does or does not want. Dr. You is a nice person, but she is rigidly fueled by the almighty dollar. I'd love to see her update the chairs and carpet in the waiting room, they're filthy and falling apart. Maybe get the fish tank cleaned and have the filter replaced, maybe have the skylights cleaned, all these things I notice and annoy me since shes charging so much, I'd at least like to have a nice floor and chairs to sit in. Dr. You should thank her dental hygienists and Jennifer at the front desk, if it weren't for them, I probably would have been long gone already. Wish I could scoop them up and take them with me to another practice. read more

Dr. You was way too pushy on not wanting to do any procedure without nitrous oxide (laughing gas). She seemed upset that I told her 'No' my son would not be using it. After her attitude change I just said 'sure, sure' because my son needed the procedure done but we will not be returning. Not to mention the front desk charged me out of pocket and my insurance as well for the same visit. I highly recommend you double check your co payments. They owe me $200 plus which they said they would send a check in the mail. Its a month later and haven't received it. Called them and they said they never sent it out. Now I have to drive there and grab it myself. read more

Our experience with Dr. You at Pacific Pediatric Dentistry was very disappointing. She did not communicate well with children, and my daughter struggled to feel at ease during visits. Dr. You barely spoke to her while working, which only made things worse. One of the biggest issues was her heavy reliance on nitrous oxide -- she seemed to use it for almost everything, rather than trying to engage with my child or use other behavior management techniques. She used nitrous for a filling, which later fell out. When we returned, she insisted the only way to fix it was to place a crown under sedation, refusing to try any alternative. This felt more about making things easier for her than truly helping my daughter -- and nitrous or sedation wasn't even covered by our insurance. We ended up taking our daughter overseas, where a dentist completed everything successfully without nitrous or sedation -- just through good communication and patience. After we told Dr. You's office that we completed treatment elsewhere, they removed us from their patient list for "not following the treatment plan." That confirmed for us that their approach was rigid and not centered on the patient's best interest. I would not recommend Dr. You or Pacific Pediatric Dentistry to families looking for a dentist who prioritizes communication, flexibility, and child-centered care! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but sadly once again dentistry gave me a bad taste in my mouth. The provider acted like she wanted to help my kids then had her office called to let me know she was not comfortable having us as her patients and that my kids were a liability. I work in the medical field and have never been treated by anyone that way. There was no real explanation for her to refuse care to my kids outside some questions on a previous treatment one of my kids received which I agreed to reach out to the previous provider. The one star is because the staff is great and the facility is nice, but now I wish I would have read the other reviews rather than waste my time and energy on someone who would diagnose, then tell me to find another dentist for literally no reason outside they needed actual dental work which is why we are there. The icing on the cake was in addition to firing us after our initial visit, then then told me that they would not be willing to give us a referral because they did not want to do the necessary paperwork needed for that. Maybe this was just a one time incident but I would proceed with caution. read more

We noticed something was awry about a year and a half ago when the dentist kicked our oldest daughter out because she raised her hand to let the staff know she was scared while getting a filling done. Then about eight months ago, Dr. You put "fluoride packs" on our 10-year-old daughter's four molar teeth to prevent further decay, which she said would sustain further decay until her adult teeth arrived. When we took her back two months ago for a cleaning (six months after the fluoride packs were applied), Dr. You, the dentist, told my wife she saw more decay on our daughter's four baby molars (the same ones she previously applied the fluoride packs to) and she needed to reapply more fluoride packs. My wife told her she had heard that fluoride might be unhealthy, and she wanted to research it before deciding. To this, the dentist condescendingly asked my wife if she (not our daughter) had gotten the COVID vaccination, clearly attempting to assert that my wife was somehow intellectually inferior to her. Since my wife was not her patient, this question was completely irrelevant, unprofessional, and out-of-line. She then said, if you refuse the fluoride packs, four fillings need to be done (to the tune of $1,000+ out-of-pocket after insurance). My wife wisely gathered our daughter and left. We have since taken our daughter to another dentist, who checked our daughter's teeth and found no further decay whatsoever. To make matters worse, Pacific Pediatric Dentistry took it upon themselves to schedule another appointment in October for our daughter. We only learned of this after receiving a notice via email. I highly recommend finding another dentist for your children, but if you absolutely have to take your children there, be very careful you don't get taken advantage of. read more

Sitting here with my son in Dr. Yu's office as he get's his front tooth repaired from a playground incident, I realized I've never left a review for this office. Hands down the best children's dentist out there. My son has been with this practice since he cut his first few teeth through annual cleanings, and now we're at an age where we're dealing with fractured teeth from getting hit with baseballs and having playground accidents. Every time we've visiting this office for preventive / emergency / corrective care, they've always been consistent in delivering the best care, calming environment, and great advice. Their "bedside manner" with kids is outstanding. Miss Margaret and Dr Yu make an amazing team. Could not recommend this practice more. read more

Terrible service and Very rude office manager. My child went there for years and no issues until the billing mysteriously changed. Many issues with the officer manager not being transparent about costs and unnecessary procedures. Also refused to bill our insurance for a preventative exam for our other child until the balance was paid off for the mysterious charges. They finally billed after I called and said they must bill insurance but financially it's an unethical place. read more

First the Dentist does not know how to talk to people. She always has attitude. Second, i know my son and when he is in pain, or anxious, I can tell. But he doesn't have to be my kid to know he is in pain, as I am a professional health care provider. We learn how to read body language when working with patients. I told the dentist that my son was in pain and she gave me attitude and said he was not because he was on nitrous. Then she asked him and he said yes. Worst bed side manners! So they decide to (supposedly) sedate him on our next visit. He was not sedated, but could not talk or move his arms and legs. I think they gave him a paralytic. Unknown unless I go have labs drawn on my son. He will not make a third showing. And they rip you off for sedation. 300$ for a pill that cost 65 cents. And it didn't knock him out. It just made it hard for him to move his body and talk. There AVOID this dentist. read more

From the moment I called this office to schedule an appointment until the moment I walked out the door after my first appointment, I was completely in awe of all of the people working at Pacific Pediatric Dentistry. They are all spectacular!! My son is only 18 months old and has severe stranger anxiety, so my husband I were expecting his first dental appointment to be very stressful and full of anxiety. In the waiting room is a beautiful fish tank; Brodie at the front desk took the time to come out and point out all the star fish to my boy, which had him smiling. We were then met by Margaret who took us to the back area And started the examination process, questions, etc. She made my boy feel very comfortable and calm, and was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. Margaret is a star, and incredibly excellent at her job. Then Dr. You Came out and did her examination, she's incredibly knowledgeable and has amazing bedside manner. A+ all around. My kids were with Dr. Walker for years-since my kids were very little. . My daughter is now isixteen. I was so happy with the care that I received here with Dr.walkerand staff. When Dr Wu came on, I found her very kind; Sadly, kindness does not help me at this point. My daughter has deeper grooves in her teeth as I'm sure many children do. I decided I did not want to drive and deal with the parking downtown it was only a matter of month or two I ended up transferring my daughter to my office close to home. Imagine my shock , disgust and surprise when the dentist found six to seven cavities !!! one was quite a bit deeper and now her tooth is very sensitive!! I'm gathering that that will end up in a root canal!! I feel so sad and sorry for her and Us !!! Here I was a proactive parent and go to every cleaning and I expected to be told the truth !!! This was not ethical or right !!! There is no way that this was a mistake!!! How could Professionals miss all that ? Now it is too late !!! Dr Wu said everything was fine and it wasn't!!! I could forgive one cavity, but so many? PARENTS BEWARE!!!! i How could the dentist or Assistance not see them? No matter if she compensates me for the money I spent on those cavities , she cannot get back my daughters healthy teeth material!!!! I am FURIOUS!!! I had to hold my poor girls hand while they filled all those cavities in and the minute she could get a deep cleaning, we did that too as they desperately needed it ..mind you I used up two " cleanings" at Dr Wi's and had to wait for the new year ..My cleaning assistant mumbled that there was still scales and material from the braces that she had had (I believe ) it was over a year ago ..on her teeth and in between her teeth... I noticed the yellow stain on the back of her front teeth!! I had two "cleanings " at Dr. wu's office plus x rays . My son had his first visit on tuesday, we decided to walk in with no appt, we weren't sure if they even take our ins. But luckily they do and right then they were able to get my son in. We love Pacific Pediatric Dental and Dr. You-- this practice is A+. We loved our pediatric dental group in 5 cities but left out of necessity and now I'm glad we did. We notice a difference in the quality of services between the two practices that is undeniable. The basic dental cleaning my son receives at Pacific is of a higher quality, even he thinks so. Dr. You is a perfectionist who I trust. She has a detailed, organized plan for my child and enjoys sharing knowledge and spending time with the patient. She knows how to speak to my son to motivate and encourage him to take responsibility for his oral hygiene without making him feel berated. The support staff is also great. My son had his first visit to the dentist this morning and we had a wonderful experience! First of all, it's probably the nicest looking dentist's office that I've ever been to, pediatric or otherwise. Very clean, beautifully decorated, and the waiting room has an awesome fish tank, video games, books, and crayons/paper for coloring. My son (almost 2 years old) was transfixed by the fish! Everyone was super friendly and accommodating, from the person at the front desk, to the dental hygienist, to his dentist, Dr. You. My son isn't a kid who sits in the same place for more than ~20 seconds, so their patience and humor were very much appreciated. They were finally able to get a good look at his teeth and give us some helpful advice on care. We left with a fun little toy and an adorable welcome card with his photo on it. Took our 16 month old sons here on a recommendation from our pediatrician. I am so glad we did because they are awesome! The office itself is clean and very nice. They have a big fish tank with lots of cool fish in it, video games, books, etc. in the waiting room. My sons were transfixed with the fish tank. Another cool feature is, they have a book next to the fish tank describing all the fish that are in the tank. Very neat learning tool. An office staff member took us on a tour, showed us their rooms, where the bathrooms are, on and on. That was a very nice gesture. The dental assistant was very calm and soft spoken, which is very welcome when you have two very squirmy and apprehensive kids. The dentist (Dr. Yu) was funny, patient and very gentle. They gave us great tips on brushing our sons teeth. At the end they took two really cute pics with our sons and a note welcoming us to their office! Dr. You was great! She released my 3 week old's lip tie using a laser. We called on Monday and she was able to get us in the next day for a consultation, and that Thursday for the procedure. The office looks new and is very clean. Dr. You and her staff were all very friendly and helpful. We didn't have a birth certificate yet so couldn't add our son to our insurance yet, but they agreed to wait to bill our insurance until we were able to add him. My 7 yr old daughter is a patient here. She had a few cavities and was really scared to get them filled. The staff was all very kind. They really put her at ease. Pacific Pediatric Dentistry is the only dental office I would consider bringing my children to. De. Walker is amazing, the staff is great and they have games to occupy the kids while we wait, even though that is always a very short time. i enjoy the staff, who are always so helpful and go above and beyond to acknowledge their patients who are often young children who my be a little fearful.
