I've been very impressed by this office, they are very kind and easy to work with. We just moved to Oregon and although the prices are pretty steep compared to where we lived before, I think that might be the norm for the area. It's very easy to get an appointment here quickly and it's also been great to be able to text the office when we have a question or need to get in contact. We used to take my childhood pets here and after moving back into the neighborhood, my husband and I started taking our wonderful and very gentle and sensitive retired service dog to get treated. All started out well until Covid hit and they no longer let people in with their pets. They may have had turnover then, but the new vet recommended we do muscular shots at home with little guidance which we were not equipped or comfortable doing. We said so many times.Our dog had just had replacement surgery so the shots were to help with joint health. It was not worth it and we quit right away on all fronts. We ended up taking him in to get some of the shots and his standard immunizations and then only opted for what he needed afterwards. Now he is traumatized to go to the vet to get any type of shot and even examined! The last and final time I took him he screamed and I could hear them handling him not so nicely in the back to clip his nails and give him his immunizations. I almost ran back there to tell them to stop. After that I wasn't taking him back. He has no problem with his new groomer and we started using a new vet to work through his now over the top anxiety. I'm so sad this even had to happen as he had no issues going in before. It completely changed our dog not for the best. I'm now working with him to undo the psychological damage that has been done. read more

I would personally like an apology after being gaslighted and disrespected by the manager, Julie, after not speaking with me directly, yet sending a letter via snail mail explaining my dog will not be seen there anymore. I was told that I was no longer welcome back, due to a misunderstanding that a receptionist had conveyed to said Julie, and instead of management following up with the client as well, they took the easy route (and not the professional one) leaving my vulnerable furry friend uncared for - yet now all I read is horrible reviews about the receptionists. Bummer, Julie/Pacific Vet - stuff really does run downhill and y'all are still proving that. Do better. Be better. I could never recommend this Veterinary office to anyone. They have a free initial consultation advertised on Yelp. When I arrived I mentioned the deal and was told to leave a review. I composed a review while waiting in the exam room. When the visit was done, I mentioned this to the clerk and showed her the coupon, which I took a screen shot of. I was told that she would remove the 68$ exam. Next I got a bill for around 300$. I did not ask for a receipt because I felt they were trustworthy. Was this naive of me, yes. Does me being naive mean I deserve to throw away 68$, NO. Long story short I requested a receipt via email because the cost was not adding up. Sure enough they charged me for the visit anyway. I responded to the email asking for clarification. No response was ever received. I have never had a company not stand behind their advertised deal. To be honest, I'm glad I learned on my first visit that Pacific Vet treats their customers this way. read more

I have been a client of Pacific Veterinary since 1997 and without exception they've been predictably reliable and provided the most compassionate and high quality care I've ever seen from veterinarians (I was raised on a farm with lots of animals). The vets are extraordinary!. They understand pets are like family, are flexible, offer choices and consistently collaborate and communicate effectively re the recommendations for care! I contacted them in tears this morning as my cat had a severe trauma to his tail and needed immediate attention. Samantha answered and told me, nonchalantly, that the first appointment they had available would be the following morning. I tried to relate to her that it was critical my cat be seen the same day and offered to show pics. She had no interest and told me I should go to an emergency clinic of it was critical. Continuing in tears, I told her I didn't know who else to go to and wasn't comfortable taking a chance and trusting a clinic I know nothing about with something of this magnitude. I reminded her that I've never been to another vet in the 23 years I've lived here. Pacific Veterinary had earned my loyalty and trust. Someone in that role (first point of contact) should be compassionate, use a little judgement and I would think be a problem solver (or at least know when to contact someone that is). I imagine that there could be some effort to juggle appointment times with less urgent clients. Dismissive is NOT the right approach! I called back about five minutes after I had spoken with Samantha to request a conversation with a manager. Some time had passed (after she influenced the vet tech to be aligned with her), and Arlene got on the phone. Though she was friendlier, it was clear she had NO desire to understand my predicament and show an ounce of compassion either. She gave me phone numbers of other clinics to try. I ended up taking my cat to another clinic where the vet examined and offered to call Pacific Veterinary to put in an additional request to see if they would be able to perform the amputation they determined to be necessary. Whomever the vet spoke with, told her that they wouldn't be able to amputate for two weeks. Really? I don't understand what has changed but the level of service that I was given at the initial and subsequent contacts was deplorable. The vets are great... if you can get past the front line. After moving here recently I felt nervous about finding a new vet I could trust. One visit to PVH and I knew I was in the right place!! Incredibly friendly staff that follow up, check in, and are so responsive. The vets and technicians I have seen are very knowledgeable and great with my cats. Even doling out treats for extra points...they had my kitty purring last time we took her in! A cat, purring at the vet? Doesn't get much better than that!! Also I'm not sure why someone felt like they were being charged too much for the services. If anything I feel like I am underpaying for the quality care. By far the most affordable vet I've taken my pets to. A procedure that cost me nearly $550 where I used to live was just under $200 at BVH. They even offer discounts and are very up front with quotes. I've never felt pressured into a procedure or medication or anything. They make sure that the cost is something I can cover and always explain what is what when it comes to expenses. For reference I have been a feral cat colony caretaker and have had pets all my life. I am by no means an expert but out of the many many many vets I've dealt with PVH has gone above and beyond. Thank you PVH!! read more

My family has been taking our pets to Pacific Veterinary Hospital for more than 50 years. We have always been very happy with the care our dogs and cats received and we have been very satisfied. However, recently the office staff made a serious scheduling mistake that means we will have to postpone treatment for one of our cats. This will also cost us extra money. While the scheduling mistake was annoying, the real problem came after, when the office person who contacted us was extremely rude. She lied about what had happened and insisted everything was our fault and Pacific had not done anything wrong. She said she didn't care if we left to find a new vet. We have tried to contact the doctors at Pacific to ask about this unprofessional and unpleasant behavior by their staff was acceptable to them. We have received no response so apparently it is. They seem not to be interested in competent support staff and good customer service. We feel we can no longer trust Pacific Veterinary Hospital or recommend it to anyone. read more

I have been using Pac Vet Hospital for over 25 years and never had an experience as described in the negative reviews, including treating several animals that had to be out down.. They are consistently good people and knowledgeable. They are always kind and considerate. But here is something to consider. Covid has casued changes including that they are booked up far ahead. Do you want them to dump another client so to get your animal in? Are you that speacial? They do attempt to fit people in but sometimes they cannot accommodate. Its the "new normal" in vet services. Second thing to consider. Maybe your upset caused you to react badly - what you thought was "nonchalent" might have been as serious as anyone would have been but you missed it. I know I am very sensitive when one of my 4 legged children have been hurt - but that is not Pac Vet's fault. Finally, you know that there are several emergency vets who handle these kinds of things - one in Tanasborne, one in Tualatin, and Dove Lewis in town plus several more on google that I was not familar with. So you were not left without alternatives. I see a lot of service providers of all kinds in my work. Pac Vet is top of my list in terms of how they work, take care of animals, and interact with the public. But do remeber that under covid conditons, things are a little different. Things are different everywhere - just try to get an appointment with a people doctor - best you can get pretty much all the time is a zoom call. read more

We have taken our dog here since he was a puppy and he is now six years old. Every interaction we have with Pacific Vet is amazing. I love that they have multiple vets that I can see based on my schedule. I love that they are open on Saturdays and Sundays. I love that they find ways to keep costs down for me. Above all that is that they have a love and deep respect for animals. I never have any questions if my dog is in good hands. The level of customer service is amazing. Pacific Veterinary Hospital We have been using this office since we moved here in 2008. We have 2 cats, one of which has extensive medical issues. The entire staff at PVH have always been professional and caring. They have assisted me several times researching certain medications or treatments. They keep current on the latest methods and technology. We have always been able to count on them when a problem arises, or we need supplies. They are open 7 days a week, which is very, very convenient. We highly recommend them. read more

We've been going to Pacific Vet for 8 years, ever since we moved to Multnomah Village. Dr. Grossen was wonderful, but she's now retired. The other two newer vets who joined more recently have both quit. Only Frost is left, and we've had very poor experiences with her. I don't know whether the place will stay in business. A staff person (who, btw, was very friendly and helpful) said a new vet was joining in late Dec. I'm not willing to risk it; we're looking for a new vet. read more

My husband and I recently moved to Portland from Seattle and were searching for a new a vet. We located one close to the neighborhood, Pacific Veterinary Hospital. The first time my husband went to PCV, he stated the receptionist was very rude and we gave her the benefit of the doubt since everyone has bad days. However, when we returned for the second time (this time it was I who has the interaction), the receptionist was extremely discourteous and unpleasant to speak to. There were no salutations, didn't want to explain why we were being up-charged and when asked she stated "because the techs need to get paid more." I am not disagreeing that techs need to get paid more because I think they do but there is a way to explain things in a customer service setting and this is isn't it. We will be looking for another vet for our dogs. If they treat us this way via telephone, I can't imagine how they are treating our furbabies. read more

Dr. Laura Bukowski is one of the best vets we have ever had. As someone who worked in the vet field, and as an avid animal lover... I appreciate her honestly, her willingness to explain what is going on, and the fact that she truly listens to your concerns. My little rescue mix is very hit or miss with vets, especially in higher stress situations (example: nail trims) but she did so great with dr. Bukowski, marching her calm energy and receptiveness. This is truly a wonderful veterinary hospital. Everyone that I have had contact with is helpful, knowledgeable and caring. Our Veterinarian is Dr. Frost and she takes her time with our older German Shepherd. She explains and answers questions. Our girl likes her and she doesn't like everyone. I have been in the office when they have had emergencies come in, this veterinary clinic is open 7 days a week which is a huge plus. I would recommend this veterinary office to everyone . Great veterinary services with caring doctors. Open seven days a week and always able to get a same day appointment. Vets are up-to-date on current medicine and options and make sure that you are given your choice based upon what serves your needs and wallet, all while providing the same outcome. Another veterinarian told us that we needed to put our Doberman down due to her severe knee pain that would require extensive surgery. Brought her here and found out all she needed was some medicine. Kept her going strong for five more years. Had the same folks come out to put our Dalmatian down at home. Courteous and caring individuals were very respectful and shared in our grief. All staff at the clinic is friendly and responsive. Thank you! This clinic was recommended to me by a friend who also had exemplary experiences and him I know to have high standards. There is nothing particularly wrong with this vet, but nonetheless after one visit I found myself searching for somebody else. We brought one of our cats there for a regular check-up in December and were helped after about 15 minutes. The main vet who looked him over and gave him shots was pleasant, but she moved through everything very quickly and didn't seem at all concerned with my cat's fear. It didn't seem like she gave a very thorough examination. I can't remember if it was the gums or ears, but there was basically only one thing she checked. Sometimes cats have subtle problems and considering how rarely they get a veterinary check-up, when they do it should be thorough. The vet said we would be sent a notice when it was time for our other two cats to get their last set of shots, but we never were. The staff was all very friendly. It's a decent vet. But not good enough to make me a long-term customer. read more

I have been to this vet over 5 times and each visit is worse than the previous. Cons: - Too long of wait. - Care more about making money than your pet. - Subpar service. - No magazines or places to sit in exam room. - Non-friendly staff - Very tiny exam rooms. Pros: - Good location. I won't be going there again and would rather drive to Vancouver, WA to go to a vet who actually cares about your pet. Case and point, they overcharge for basic services and typically do not tell you the cost before they perform the service. My experiences include X-rays and blood work. Do yourself and your pet a favor, go where you will be treated like a customer and not a dollar symbol. read more

Unfortunately, we've had to take our cat here a handful of times in the past year for a handful of malfunctions (she's a real lemon I tell ya). We live around the corner so it's very convenient. While I'm no vet hospital connoisseur I can say that I have been very pleased with the customer service for humans, understanding of the pet's fears, and thorough explanations we've received about the cat's various ailments. They've also been very fair with treatment options and help you find the best and most affordable plan. I think this is as solid as any place to bring your animal friend. This morning I found out my cat had worms, so I called PVH and asked if they did walk-ins. The gal I spoke to said no, but they luckily had an opening and within the hour I was in the office filling out paperwork. I am new to the area and hadn't found a good vet yet, but now I know I have! The ladies at the front desk were friendly and welcoming, and the doctor that ended up treating my cat was Paige Pierce who I would definitely recommend. She was very kind and informative and really helped relax my nervous scaredy cat, Biggie. Nobody tried to push me to get any extra tests done or tried to sell me unnecessary medication, and Dr. Paige was kind enough to send me home with a tooth-care kit free of charge when she noticed some extra plaque building up on my little mans teeth. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I will be returning when I need to. The only thing I can think of worth mentioning on the down side would be a noticeable smell of urine, but considering the clientele, this is not all that surprising, so it did not upset me. Very friendly place and I can already tell Biggie is happier :) read more

I was looking for a 2nd opinion and potentially a new Vet after moving from the east side of Portland to southwest Portland. I have 3 pets all over the age of 8 and I am cautious about changing doctors and going to a different clinic. Dr. Wickander called me in my car and discussed the issues we were currently experiencing and got a history on our dog. I was very pleased that Dr. Wickander came out to get my dog and greeted her in a way that lessened her apprehension. After the appointment, Dr. Wickander patiently reviewed her findings and next steps with me. I was thrilled about our meeting and very happy with the outcome. From our discussion, I believe that Dr. Wickander and the clinic provide the type of care and partnership that we have been seeking. read more

I've been bringing my fur children to Pacific Vet since about 1967, and am so sold on them! Recently I'm not up to par physically; someone will always come out to the car to carry my kitty inside, and back out when they're done. Once when she had to come in early when I didn't want to ask a neighbor to carry out to the car for me, Arlene came to the house to take her in. When I had to have my last cat put to sleep they didn't make me wait in front, but took me straight back to the inner office, went away, and came back with a box of Kleenex. I tend to choke up thinking of how good they have been to my pets! I marked five stars up above, but I'd really like to give them six or seven! read more
