Here's what you get if you use Pacifica. I had three beds with barberry installed, based on the design from a landscape architect. At the time, the beds were to be installed "as drawn" but Pacifica independently decided that edging would be in a "different phase". No weed barrier was installed. Okay, my bad for not paying attention. Bed One. The plants behind the fence against an alley did terrible for about two years. Finally, I called a different landscaper, thinking that maybe it wasn't a good spot for them because they were almost dead. She discovered the tops of their rootballs were all exposed. You can see in the pictures, after she planted them deeper the new growth is dark and lush around the base. Bed Two. I had some bushes installed on the south side of my house and you can see in the picture that the bush at the end is the wrong kind. It matches a varietal they installed on the other side of the house. These have also stayed about 12-18 inches tall. Bed Three. The original plan called for red barberries. Prior to installation I asked they could "intersperse" a few yellow. See the pics. 1) That's not what I'd call interspersed. It looks weird. 2) These bushes are not yellow. They're green 90% of the time. 3) They're not similar in profile at all to the reds, making them look like a mistake. Baxter's response to me was something like this: "We always expose the root balls so that when you add more mulching material you don't smother them." Huh? It's gravel on top. How often am I supposed to add gravel? And the proof's in the pudding. As soon as I paid someone else to plant them deeper, they started recovering. "Yellow barberries aren't yellow all the time." How about some times? Part of the time? Or maybe just saying something when I asked about them? And he was just silent on the "wrong bush" issue. He did offer to meet with me to look at the other bushes to "move them around". I told him that if that was the only solution he had in mind, I didn't want to take the time to meet (this is also during covid) and that except for where they'd planted the wrong bush, everything was outside of the fence and that he could come by and look at them himself anytime. I never heard from him again. read more

I consulted Pacifica to landscape our backyard. Many other firms weren't responding to my inquiries at the time, and some bluntly advised that unless our budget met a certain value (ours was only around half of the amount they specified), they weren't interested. I was so happy with the design Pacifica came up with for our backyard, and the execution/installation was of exceptional quality. Mostly, I was impressed with how far our budget went and the value we got for our money. I plan to do more landscaping to our property in the future and will not hesitate to go back to Pacifica. I really didn't want to write an negative review bc the landscaping team was very friendly and Baxter was very personable. Perhaps they were spread too thin? However, we spent a significant amount of money ~$40k and the job wasn't done as we had hoped and been promised. Also, they forgot to include tax as per of their initial estimate, I understand that it was only an estimate but an estimate of tax should have been included. I think the problems started when we lost our project manager. We initially had a project manager and then we were informed that we no longer had a project manager and no replacement either. Also, I was told that I could pick out the plants when the time/season came but I was never consulted on the plants and on top of that I had to pay an additional fee for plants that were not in the initial estimate. In addition the plants we picked at the initial appointment were not the ones we ended up with. I understand availability of plants can change but there is a vast difference between miniature euphorbias and the full size ones. Also less than a month, one of the dwarf trees died, I was told I would get a replacement but that never happened. The icing on the cake is that we are now listing our house and the realtor recommended we rip out the existing plants as they seem to just be a hodge lodge of plants with no design. I also agree and felt there was no design to the plants being arranged. Word of advice, always have an experienced project manager or just have hardscaping done and plant the plants yourself. read more

I would give zero star if I could. They made me wait one month just to get the initial estimate appointment. Day before the appointment, I get an email to confirm the appointment, I do. Next day, I took off of my work and I drove 40 mins to the property where the work is supposed to be performed. Kept waiting for 15 mins post our appointment time. Received a message from the consultant, that they don't do that kind of work and that they won't be coming. Seriously? What was the point of scheduling appointment and reminding the appointment? Started working with Pacifica around 5 months ago. They gave me the initial consultation very quickly, and Baxter seemed like a nice guy so I went ahead and put down the deposit. Once that happened though communication has been terrible. Took another 2 months to get an initial design. Our hedge was knocked out by a driver who lost control of her car in the the snow this past winter, and Pacifica Landscape replaced the entire hedge. However, we became dissatisfied with the job when the plants didn't do well and didn't look that good. They were very responsive and came back with new plants and replaced and repositioned them all. Pacifica Landscapes designed and installed a small back patio in our urban townhome. We needed the space to be graded, partially bricked in and replanted around the new layout. We also had steps built into an existing retaining wall that lead from our driveway to the back patio. They did a great job initially coming out to examine the space, offering great ideas and being well versed in the Seattle zoning restrictions--which helped keep us from making what would have been a bad decision building stairs in the setback. The first step is providing a small $200 design deposit, half of which goes to the final cost. This $100 design fee was well worth it, as Pacifica met with us in person to walk through the design and we made several changes prior to final implementation. The work happened about 4-5 weeks from the time we provided the deposit. This was quicker than anticipated. Our only complaint, if we had to drudge one up, would be the short notice when the work was finally going to take place. But, honestly, this is a very very minor quibble as we were excited to have such a surprise on our hands! The entire project was done in less than a week, and this includes a final review with the owner/operator and the small changes we requested after that review. We couldn't be happier with our new patio and, if you want to know what yours may look like, know that our patio very much has the same look and feel of those depicted on Pacifica's website. read more
