As a mom traveling with a toddler, finding a convenient, tasty, and kid-friendly restaurant while staying at a hotel is an absolute win -- and Pacific's Edge Restaurant delivered on all fronts. Located right inside the hotel (which is a huge plus because there aren't a ton of food options in the immediate area), Pacific's Edge made our stay feel so much more relaxing. Downtown Monterey is a good 15-20 minute drive, so being able to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner without having to get in the car was a total lifesaver. We come to Carmel annually for the Monterey Jazz Festival and stay at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands. This restaurant is in the Hyatt. Last year, we came here for happy hour (please see my previous review for the deets). This year, we went for breakfast. As indicated in my previous review, the views are spectacular. We set outside, and with the heat lamps, it was perfect. The service at the restaurant is always top notched. The food was really delicious (pics attached). We shared the: - omelette for $26. You get to select 3 ingredients. We added a 4th for $1. We selected, bacon, sausage, peppers and cheddar cheese. Comes with breakfast potatoes. - Smoked Salmon Bagel for $21 - fruit and berry plate for $10 - clam chowder regularly costs $12 (actually got this at happy hour the previous night at happy hour for 30% discount). My friend and I came here for breakfast on Mother's Day. We were staying at the hotel and thought breakfast here would be easy. We were told in advance that the menu for non-mother's day brunch would be limited, and we were okay with that. Food: I ordered the beyond burger with fries. The burger was pretty standard. The fries were good. My friend ordered the standard American breakfast with scrambled eggs as well as an order of pancakes. He enjoyed both dishes. Service: Despite preparing for the brunch buffet, service was decent. The food was slow to come out of the kitchen, but our server was friendly and kept us up to date. There was unfortunately a large party next to us who did not reserve the mother's day brunch and assumed that their booked breakfast with the stay would come with the bottomless brunch. They got pretty rowdy next to us, but the servers and managers handled the situation well. TL;DR - I will need to come back when it is not a holiday weekend to experience the full restaurant, but otherwise enjoyed my food and time! read more

I expected better for a pricey restaurant. We were told by the hospitality manager that the food is just as good as the views I immediately tried to book a reservation in person since we were staying on property for weekend. When I approached the hostess I asked if I could have seating at the window for me and my husband and the only available reservation was an hour and a half after checking in so we booked it. They said they would do their best to accommodate us but noticed she was more accommodating to others. We were so hungry after a long drive so I ended up getting an earlier reservation through open table, which I strongly suggest to do. We ended up being seated in the middle of the left side of restaurant, so no window table. Ambiance was not all that great It took them over 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge and take our order. The clam chowder was the highlight of our dinner and was $12. Mine came out very hot while my husbands bowl was just right. When we got our order, no one asked how our food was. The waiter did not ask how I wanted my burger cooked but then again I didn't tell him which I should have. After 30 min into dinner there was a manager that walked around asking tables if they needed more water but did not come to our table until she got Close and felt she had to ask us. I also ordered a glass of red wine and he neglected to tell me what kind he poured until I asked him when I got the bill. Anyways, all in all we did not feel welcomed at this restaurant and would not return. Pictures of food are pretty but doesn't make it taste good if experience is horrible. read more

We came here with reservations, requesting for outside seating for sunset (as they're known for that for sunset dinners). When we arrived they had part of the area blocked off and when the host was checking us in, he didn't mention outside seating so we thought that with it being blocked off and him not mentioning what we requested for when we made the reservation, that it meant there'd be no outside seating. However, when we were done with dinner, we noticed there was definitely outside seating and we had missed a sunset dinner here (which was a primary purpose of us driving out here). So that was quite disappointing that they didn't even read or acknowledge our request when making the reservation. Although, I do also take accountability and should've been more proactive and just asked. Regarding the food, it certainly is overpriced and underwhelming. My husband got the Cioppino and I got the Salina's salad with garlic fries as appetizer. The Cioppino had decent flavoring (tomato based broth) but lacked with the amount of seafood in it. For that price, we were expecting a bit more. For the Salina's salad, I had looked online at their menu from their website and it had it listed as "Mixed greens, Cara Cara oranges, watermelon, radish, fried sunchokes, toasted pepitas, carrots, cucumber, citrus vinaigrette." I figured I'd order this and I didn't get a good chance to look at their menu in person as our child was having a bit of a rough time and my attention was focused on that. When I got my salad, it had mixed greens with strawberries, blueberries, and nuts. It wasn't terrible but not what I was expecting. I had asked our server about the salad and she had said that the online menu was from summer and hasn't been updated. She was apologetic and friendly, and I wasn't upset at her, just bummed by the situation and again, another thing I do take accountability for but also, they should date their menu on their website...as it's February and summer was several months ago. Based on the price, definitely not worth the salad. The garlic fries were seasoned well but not very crispy and for $14, again a bit steep. We appreciate our server. She was friendly. Saturday evening dinner reservations, and from entrance to table, the ambiance reminds me of resorts in Hawaii! The tropical-like plants outside, and a gorgeous cascading staircase, inviting you into a cozy but lodge-like golden-lit atmosphere inside. Once seated by one of the huge bay windows that envelop the dining-room and lounge/bar area, you get a sense of grandeur but not pretentious. Lowly lit tables are enlightened by what I can only call a sheer stroke of genius!!! Lit-up from behind, menus! No more having to clumsily take out your cell phones flashlight. The service is welcoming (merci, Frédérique), and Andrea the Manager are absolute delights. The food is on-point as far as a nicely curated selection, from brioche burger, to risotto. The wines are magnifuque, and do NOT leave until you've finished with the creme brûlée. Went here during lunch hour, 1:00 pm. I was super excited on experiencing this gem for my birthday. Unfortunately, it lacked in many areas, one being the service, second, the food itself, and third, how outdated the restaurant looked. The hostess was really friendly but just to get us seated took sometime. Seemed like there was only 1 server, 1 guy to pour water and that's it, very slow service and not attentive. The menu needs some updating for sure. The food itself was mid and not memorable or tasty. I got the crab roll (pic attached) was nothing like it described, no roll or coleslaw. A simple search on google will show you what a real crab roll looks like. My mom got the seafood cioppino (pic added) and she got a dry plate, meaning a plate with only calamari and deep fried artichoke & shrimp, no sauce, no bread! The server also let us know no prime rib or beef was available as they were out of stock. I did however, enjoy the view, although due to some construction only a few 2 seater tables have the clear unobstructed view. In addition, even though I made a reservation and stated I was celebrating my bday; there was no acknowledgment nor treat. I did see other parties who had a treat with a candle brought out. We went there for my wife's birthday. We informed the hostess that it was my wife's birthday in which case I would think a restaurant APB would go out. It didn't. We got a great window seat with an amazing ocean view, however the windows were dirty. They were covered in water spots. Maintenance please. My wife ordered a filet that came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Hollandaise for dipping the asparagus was not available, booooooo. The potatoes looked like they came out of a cake decorator. I ordered cioppino which lacked flavor and was mostly shellfish. At the end, we ordered dessert because it was not offered as a happy birthday treat. I'll give the place 4 stars for the view. Definitely not five stars. It basically feels like a hotel restaurant. read more

Friday, 11/10/2023 - Ate at Pacific's Edge in Carmel by the Sea. Address is 120 Highlands Dr, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA 93923. The view here is spectacular!!! The restaurant is all around window so you will have a beautiful view no matter where you sit. They have indoor and outside seating. Hours are 7am-2pm and 5pm-9pm. Upon arrival... Pros: 1) staffs were very nice. Customer service was great! 2) our server was very patience with us. 3) they took our drink orders pretty quickly. They were on top of it. Water tasted great. No funky or metal taste. 4) drinks were good and pretty. Some of us order 2 of the same drinks. 5) food dishes were pretty and all tasted pretty good. No complaints! 6) restaurant was clean. Utensils, plates, cups, table, chairs were all clean. 7) they provided our bday girl a complimentary creme brulee w/ strawberry. It was so delicious! 8) there was valet parking. 9) they didn't rush us out. Everyone was very friendly. The waitress was even willing to split the checks for all of us. But we made it easy. Charged it on 2 cards and the rest pay the person the cash. Cons: 1) parking was a little confusing. But! We found parking. We self parked. 2) they don't take cash here. Only card. Conclusion: Customer service great! Even the waitress took a few photos of us for us. Food, delicious! View is spectacular! Restaurant, awesome. I highly recommend this restaurant. Stopped by for dinner just before the sunset and it was absolutely gorgeous! The restaurant itself is amazing, and the view is even better. We tried their clam chowder and Super Seed Caesar salad. The clam chowder was good, I loved their Caesar! The seeds were a different and nice touch to your typical Caesar salad. The garlic dressing was delicious as well. I would definitely ask for it chopped, but it was very easy to cut it on my own. I also tried their blueberry virgin mojito, which was very good! Our server was very helpful and attentive. 3.5 rating. Situated on a hill at Hyatt Highlands, the ocean view is the best part. Sunset view is mesmerizing. There's also a telescope in the lounge. The food is pricey and hit or miss. The lounge can be rented for wedding reception. ***Hits*** -Calamari -Trout and Risotto (though I didn't like the risotto) -Steak and fries, the chimichurri sauce is amazing! -Drinks. I drank water but my friends liked their alcohol. ***Misses*** - Burrata and Heirloom salad - the tomatoes were NOT heirloom and the cheese was old, and not creamy. The lemon oil was delicious but needed much more. - Street corn with Parmesan- not surprised it was heavy but too salty -Grilled asparagus was ok, for $16 a rip off I did appreciate the huge tv so I could finish watching a U.S. Open tennis match. Service was excellent but I would only consider going back for calamari at sunset. For the price point, you're better off going elsewhere. read more

I'm a local but stayed at the Hyatt for a Mother's Day staycation for a night. With that in mind, we decided to just dine at the restaurant. I've never been to a restaurant with such a beautiful view. Very breathtaking. Staff were accommodating since we didn't have a reservation and they sat us in a spacious spot where we could enjoy the view and have room for our stroller. However, nothing stood out about their menu/food. I got the bone-in chicken breast with couscous and my partner ordered the pan-seared halibut with risotto, both were good but nothing special. It's a very limited menu, also, and not super consistent with what you see in other Yelp photos or online. And their cocktail + wine list menu is extremely overpriced. I had a GLASS of wine for $26, thought about just purchasing a whole bottle, but then saw that they charge $95! Which, if you purchase at Safeway, Total Wine, etc, only runs $40 at most... All in all, it's a nice place if you're staying there and want to just grab a drink, but I would not recommend dining. read more

Definitely a place to check out for breakfast and lunch. The views are amazing. However, my recent dinner experience was disastrous. Ordered crab cakes, was charged for crab cakes, but only received one crab for a party of 2? I have never ordered crab cakes before and receive only one crab cake at any restaurant. I ordered a rack of lamb, $56, and requested medium well done. The rack of lamb was delivered and was medium rare. My wife ordered the halibut and that was excellent. I did not want to send my order back because I wanted to dine together. I ate around the edges. Lastly, I was charged $50 for a corkage fee. The corkage tree is not listed on the menu nor did the waiter tell me they were going to charge me $50. That is outrageous. The following morning I had some free time and walked down and spoke to the director / manager of the restaurant. A very nice guy who understood my complaints. He said they need to change the menu so it says crab cake instead of cakes. He said that the photo I showed him was definitely medium rare. Lastly he agreed that they should tell customers who bring wine in, or have the corkage fee on the menu. Lastly I mentioned to him it was my birthday and at least they could put a candle in some ice cream and gave it to me but they did not offer to do that during the dinner service as they knew it was my birthday in advance. The manager agreed with my comments however I was not reimbursed at all. I will not be going back to this restaurant ever again as there are so many excellent restaurants in downtown Carmel. Amazing location to catch a sunset on the ocean. The staff is very nice and ready to present you with several choices wether you're going for breakfast, lunch, dinner or cocktails. The cioppino was amazing, I'd get that 10-10 times. The ribeye steak was also really good and flavorful. The chowder is a must have, and a bowl is big enough to share - but you may want your own since it's so good. Breakfast is all about the Benedict's baby! But you can't go wrong with the burrito or the breakfast sandwich. Dessert was a tough one because we were so full, but espresso and ice cream is a good choice! I am writing this review to recognize the most important aspects of our visit to Pacific's Edge. 1. Tony's excellent service details. 2. The absolute beauty of this restaurant location. Let me start with Tony: It was our 30th wedding anniversary and my wife and I had travelled up from Orange County to celebrate 4 days in the Carmel/Big Sur area. As soon we mentioned this to Tony, He brought out 2 glasses of champagne to celebrate the event. He was also very courteous and attentive to our dietary requests and gave us a little history about the hotel and the area and that he loves his job and the restaurant location so much that that his 29+ years of coming to work has been a bonus. The restaurant location: This is by far one of the best restaurant locations I have been too. The views of the ocean, the waves, the clouds, the mist, the rocks, the sun and the seagulls makes you not want to miss a moment of looking out the window. Every minute of the 4 hours we spend was tranquil and peaceful. We will surely return for the views AND Tony's excellent service. read more

You figure these places are all about the location and view and phone in the food, but several of the dishes were really spot on. Lobster bisque was rich with great flavor. Really balanced well. Buratta with tomatoes was also very good though hard to screw that up. There were only a few pieces of tomato though which was disappointing for $22. Cioppino was fantastic!! Everything was cooked perfectly which is so important. Calamari, shrimp and fish were so delicate and moist, perfectly cooked! Great broth as well which I soaked up with the grilled bread. Unfortunately 3 of the 4 clams didn't open so I threw those away but overall one of the best and tastiest Cioppino's I've ever had!! The risotto was just ok, slightly under cooked and served lukewarm unfortunately. The halibut was very well cooked. Dessert was a little bit of a miss though. Crème brûlée sugar top was too thick and the custard was too thick and bland. The chocolate mouse was good, but unlike the menu description. Service was good though we did have 2 wrong items brought to our table. Overall a great dinner and an amazing view. Worth the splurge! read more

The views at Pacific's Edge Restaurant are hard to beat. Perched atop a hillside on the grounds of the Hyatt Carmel Highlands, the view of the lush landscape and blue ocean is stunning. The inside of the building is a clean, sophisticated aesthetic and is not quite a formal space, but you definitely feel like dressing business casual at minimum. We dined here for a breakfast service having stayed at the property the night before. The menu was standard breakfast fare. I got plain pancakes. They came with separate soufflé cups of butter, syrup and whip cream. The dish was great and I really enjoyed all the components. We had almost dined here the previous evening as well, but they had a somewhat limited menu and none of the dinner dishes seemed to speak to me. So I would say there's definitely some opportunity to revisit the offering ms on the menu. I think a seafood pasta would have been enough to entice me to dine here instead of having to go into town. Overall, it was still a great meal and I really enjoyed the views and my breakfast. read more

The views and ambiance from Pacific Edge are amazing. The food and the service is "meh". You want to go here for an experience, but we ended up being in and out in about 45 minutes. Before we finished our first drinks, our food was delivered. Then the appetizers we ordered came, and it was all on the table at the same time. I honestly felt like we were being rushed out. The food itself was ok, but below what I was expecting for the location and price. The fish I got was cooked well and was good quality, but the sauce was pretty bland and the vegetables were soggy. My partner got the short ribs, and they were tough and she struggled to get it off the bone. She left 1/2 of it, and went for the bread, which IMHO, was the best part. Overall, it felt touristy. Nice location and view, but you're rushed in and out. Take that for what it is, and you can get an amazing view. If you want an experience, maybe find somewhere else. read more
