The view from the Point by the Parking Area
    Jason S.

Being that my Brother & Family flew in from Kansas City for the Weekend, we all decided that it would be best for us to go and grab a bite to eat somewhere that he selected. After him telling me that he was staying at a Hotel in Carmel, he was advised by the Hotel to come here because the view and the food were wonderful, so we followed through with that recommendation. After driving in, and finding a place to park, and the place where you can actually park is that once you get into the Restaurant area where there is Valet parking, you actually drive up a bit past the Valet and then take an immediate left to go behind the Hotel rooms that are on the left hand side and you can park anywhere there. From there its about a 2 to 5 minute walk to the Restaurant that is also a part of the Hyatt Hotel. Before walking down to the Restaurant I actually took a stunning picture from a View where I was able to park which is attached to this review. After walking up stairs to meet my wife we walked inside and approached the Hostess at the time our Reservation was. After being seated I explained that the rest of my Family would be walking in and then they would just come over to our table. After they arrived we sat down and were greeted by our Waiter who then introduced himself to us and asked what we wanted to drink. My wife and I ordered a Sprite and a Dr. Pepper and my Brothers Family all ordered water. After sitting for about another minute or 2, the waiter came over with our Drinks and then asked what Entree's we would like. I ordered the Spinach Artichoke Ravioli and my Wife ordered a Spring Salad with a Dungeness Crab Cake. My Brothers Family ordered the Short Rib and the Bread and explained that the Water didnt taste very well but it was drinkable. The waiter I must say was very attentive to our needs and if you get an opportunity to have a conversation with Andrea who is the Food And Beverage Manager, let me tell you how pleasant she was. Not only was she very friendly and professional but also asked us if we wanted to take pictures outside of our Family because she knew exactly where the best pictures to be taken were. I have to agree that the pictures outside of the Restaurant on the lanai are very Beautiful and if you get her to help you take the pictures, you'll be very satisfied. A little bit after we received the bread, we received our Entrees and let me tell you that our food, the view and the service was absolutely wonderful. This place doesnt deserve a 5 star, it deserves a 10. However, the only thing I was very unhappy about is while the pricing is a bit high, the portions are a bit small. None the less, everything else was wonderful. Thank you to Andrea & Staff for making this Family of 6 very happy.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING AMBIANCE AND PERFECT VIEWS + LOCATION. This is hands-down one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL restaurants I have ever been to. It is like something out of a DREAM literally. lol. It is settled perfectly on the edge of the Carmel hills overlooking a gorgeous view of the ocean, beach, and towns houses. The views are MESMERIZING and breathtaking on a sunny day. This is one of the most SPECTACULAR, epic date spots you can ever imagine. It's also such a beautiful place to bring family and loved ones. It honestly reminds me of something so beautiful like out of the movies. Everything is. PERFECT. We arrived at an odd hour (3:40pm) and it wasn't the prime lunch/ dinner time unfortunately but we were lucky enough to arrive during their Happy Hour selection time. Yay! It is definitely a less extensive menu but you get a nice little discount of 20% (?) which is honestly great. We requested to sit on the outside terrace and OMG ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Words cannot express the absolute BEAUTY and MAJESTIC views that you see from the terrace. AMAZING! (Please see my photos/views lol.) Since we had a limited menu at the time we chose 3 items to share. We decided on the Short Rib Tostone, Fritto Misto, and the Gilroy Garlic Truffle Fries. Yummy! Also for drinks we ordered the Coconut Tide and Mezcal Paloma. Mm mm! We were highly impressed by the drinks and food here. Everything was GREAT. The drinks are sooo flavorful, visually appealing, and decently strong. The food was DELICIOUS and plated beautifully. The Short Rib Tostone was my favorite for sure, it's lovely and packed with sooo much flavor. It's also plated like a masterpiece. Compliments to the chef. The Fritto Misto is your classic calamari paired with yams that are perfectly toasted and the green aioli sauce gives it the perfect dash of flavor. The Garlic Truffle fries had lovely flavor also and just a heads up the portion is HUGEEEEEE. It's so humongous we laughed about it so much. lol. I would highly recommend the fries for a family appetizer it could easily feed 4/5 people. Definitely a great deal. :) Overall I am COMPLETELY IN LOVE with this location. I cannot say enough good things about it, the beauty of this restaurant and location is BEYOND WORDS. lol. I will definitely be coming back to dine here anytime I am in town. It was such a beautiful experience and also the staff was polite + nice enough to take some amazing terrace views photos for us. Thank you so much. A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED. :)

The view is spectacular and that's what you are coming and paying for. The service is good. The food is good. Everything, unless otherwise specified, is à la carte, so plan accordingly.

In short, we paid a hefty premium for an amazing view, great service, but tiny dinner portions which left me stopping for a sandwich on the way back to the hotel. My plus one and I we're celebrating a special occasion, and we love an excuse to enjoy a panoramic view of an ocean sunset. To that end this place met our expectation. It's located just outside Carmel city center and up a hill next to a high-end hotel. Parking can be found in their structure, but there is a steep walk down to the restaurant, something to consider if you are wearing heels or have knee issues. We were seated right up against the window with an amazing view of the water. We timed it so that we will see the sunset towards the end of our meal, which worked out wonderfully. For that, we were grateful. The quality of our meal was exceptional; however, the portions were minuscule and that to me justified, dropping a star for my review. For an appetizer, I ordered the crabcakes, which I thought would be plural. However, they brought us a single one on a plate to share. It was arguably one of the best crabcakes that I have ever eaten, and would compare favorably to any place that I've tried on the East Coast. My scallops were also cooked to perfection, but we had been hiking at point Lobos earlier in the day and despite a decent lunch earlier in the day, they were not enough to satiate my appetite. My +1 ordered the cioppino, which had a generous array of different shellfish. Pasta, however, was only available for an extra cost. We tried a couple of desserts that were also delicious, but did little to stave my appetite. I was embarrassed that I had to stop at a convenience store on the way back to our hotel in Carmel to pick up a chicken wrap after the extravagant price that we paid for dinner at Pacific's Edge Restaurant, but I suppose that I should have made better menu choices. Nevertheless, I felt as though I had been served a couple of appetizers and not an actual meal.

As you can see the fish size. The two lobsters sandwiches were pretty good!

The food was ok and was pricey. The thing is that me and my friend ordered the same thing (catch of the day) and my was just half of the size of my friend's. The lobster rolls were great. Service was not too bad but the view was wonderful!

Magnificent ocean view ,beautiful weather . Great service . Menu has breakfast and main entries . Coffee and drinks . We ordered the clam chowder $12 and it tasted so delicious . We have the Point Lobos crab cakes Benedict ( tasted great with large lump of crab meat into a cake , avocado and hollandaise sauce, breakfast potatoes and English muffin ) and Cioppino stews ( lots of big prawn , giant squid, mussels , fish and scallops. The broth was too fishy for me ) The view is breathtaking! Very enjoyable lunch with nice ambiance.

Such a great experience! Their food is amazing- I had the steak and my husband had the seafood pasta. We split a Caesar salad for an appetizer and it was SO good. Great service and amazing views!

We stayed at the Tickle Pink Inn a few feet away so it was nice to have a nearby restaurant that was steps away from where we were staying. It's located inside the Hyatt hotel. If you're driving, there are a ton of parking spots. The restaurant is large and can accommodate various group sizes. We made a reservation but it wasn't too busy on a Wednesday night. I'd definitely want to come back during the day to enjoy the view. There aren't too many vegetarian options on the menu, but I'm sure they could accommodate your dietary needs and modify a meal. Service was great and the food was good.

We went for the view of the sunset and were not disappointed by that. It is stunning, and even though we are fortunate to be locals, the view was special. However, the service was less than attentive. After being seated and the waiter gave us a very brief description of the one special, he disappeared and while we waited to give our cocktail order, we saw him standing over by the kitchen door chatting with other employees. The food was fine but way overpriced. We requested a little extra bread for the mussels appetizer and were charged for it, which I found to be chintzy. Chowder was good but no bread was offered - so strange. Crabcake (just one) was decent but was on the mushy side. The cocktails were quite good, though. We were celebrating our 45th anniversary and were surprised by the lack of attention given to this pretty important milestone. As a former waiter, I expected more - especially when our dinner for two topped $200. At the end of our meal, and after we paid the check, the waiter dropped off a small box of two little truffles, wishing us a happy anniversary. Nice but kind of a weak gesture. In general we were disappointed. I don't recommend this restaurant for locals.

Stayed at the hotel and was treated to free breakfast due to my Hyatt reward status (Globalist). The views from the restaurant are stunning if you get a table against the glass. Service was friendly and efficient. The Crab Cake Benedict was very flavorful. You can actually taste the crab. The French Toast was delicious as well, with a hint of cinnamon. The Avocado toast was a bit sad. Had only a smear of avocado and the dish needed something more so I ordered a side of potatoes.

OK so we were staying at hotel, so it made so much sense to get breaky here and WOW the view is STUNNING. the glass did a great job of protecting us from the wind too. The bagel was very standard. it's deconstructed so you can put it together how you like. The omelette was ok! the potatoes were the real star. Only a few things this go, but it would be nice to try the dinner. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and $$$$. ( *w*)b

WONDERFUL PLACE, I recommend doing a reservation just in case. Even though we had a reservation we waited 20 min. Food was a top notch, everything that we ordered was just so amazing, clam chowder, breakfast and burger . Great view, tables by the window available.

It was a cool, breezy night, typical when the summer marine layer moves in over Carmel, but the propane heaters kept us toasty. If you prefer dining indoors, the interior bar and dining spaces had an intimate, funky, but very cool vibe. The host and servers were all extremely friendly and helpful. Despite being outside in the courtyard, they were also incredibly attentive, checking frequently to see if we needed anything. Their recommendations were spot on, too. I was wowed by the cocktail menu. I'll have to return to try more of their bar offerings. This trip, I took advantage of Happy Hour to order the blood orange margarita, and I was not disappointed. I ordered the ceviche appetizer. My greyhound thought it smelled as wonderful as I did. He rested his head between my feet in hopes of catching any ceviche dropping from my hands. This was so tasty, he was out of luck on the table droppings. I also had the chicken enchiladas for my entree. It was one of the best enchiladas I've had in a couple of years. My server, Mario, brought me out a small cup of their take on Mexican hot chocolate, made with oat milk, as an aperitif. It was so delicious, I almost wished I'd ordered a full cup as dessert.

The service was pleasant, although at times it felt a little condescending. They have their own very specific tequila collection, so don't expect to see many familiar brands. That's not necessarily a bad thing. We're always willing to try something new. The margaritas, however, were very tart. Just too much lime juice. We ordered tacos and asked for flour tortillas, only to be surprised when they arrived on corn tortillas. When we asked about it, we were told they simply don't serve flour tortillas. Fair enough, but that would have been helpful to know when we ordered. The good news: the chicken tinga, barbacoa, and carnitas were all excellent. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get past the corn tortillas which fell apart when you tried to eat the tacos. Ended up using a fork. For dessert, we ordered one of our favorites, churros. They arrived warm, but were very dry and tough. A churro should make you happy. These made us wish we'd stopped for dessert somewhere else. There were definitely some bright spots, especially the meats and the cozy atmosphere, but restaurants generally get one first chance to make us want to come back. Unfortunately, this one didn't.

Nothing about the drink or dinner menu was too wild or stood out as unique. Considering there are many interesting dining establishments in the Carmel area, I felt like Shearwater Tavern upheld their standard in a foodie town by sourcing local ingredients and craft beers. The artichoke dip pays tribute to a local crop and was pretty tasty. The serving was generous, so we were grateful to our server for providing some extra sourdough for scooping up the last of the cheesy, warm dip. Oh, and Wednesday's are half off bottles of wine!
