We were at Bellevue Square and definitely in need of some food. I have been in this mood lately where I want to try new restaurants. I guess I am tired of always eating at Red Robin. We headed over to try out MunchBar and were waiting for a table and realizing it really wasn't our scene, too nightclubby(probably because it is a night club after 10 on the weeekends). I checked out yelp, and I had completely forgotten about Paddy Coynes, so we walked over there instead. As soon as you walk in, you really do get the feel of an Irish Pub. Its really small, with dark wood, a large bar, and intimate booths. We got a booth near the fireplace, and it was great. I ordered a Smithwicks, which is one of my favorite beers, and usually only on tap at faux Irish/English Pubs. I got the Patty Melt with fries and my boyfriend had the Cod Sandwich with fries. First off, they have the best fries! they are shoestring fries, and exactly the same as BJ's down at Southcenter. LOVE THEM!!! The fries alone are worth a 4 star review. I have been really good about not eating too many fries lately, but I couldn't resist with these. So Delicious! My Patty melt was fine, but not great. But, I think that's my own fault. I haven't had a Patty Melt in like 15 years, and now I remember that I am not a huge fan of them. I think its the rye bread or maybe the horseradish mayo. The meat, cheese and onions were all good though. If my boyfriend was writing this review, he would give them a 5 star review. Actually, he never writes reviews and he wants to review this place cuz he thought the Cod sandwich was the most amazing thing ever. its a piece of fried cod, on a baguette with house made tartar sauce and white cheddar, served with a side of fries and cole slaw. Apparently you gotta dip the sandwich in the coleslaw to get the full effect. Who knows, I don't like fish. I took a bite, and it tasted fine, and I guess that's saying something from someone who not only hates fish, but is afraid of it. The prices were a little high, but its Bellevue Square, so I can't really fault them. I kinda didn't like that it was located in a mall, because seeing into Lincoln Square kind of lost the ambiance feel for me. But, I went there because it was at the mall, so I guess I can't really fault them. The Service was fine, and the food was great. Also, if you eat there, and buy your tickets for the Lincoln Square Cinema, you can get the movie ticket for $5.50, which is a steal. They also have $5 steak and fries on Mondays, and Trivia Nights on Tuesday at 730. I would come here again, but because my boyfriend loved the cod sandwich so much, I don't really have a say in it and HAVE to come here again. And I'm ok with that. read more

Small little Irish Pub located in the Square. We came here for a work Christmas gathering about 2 weeks ago for happy hour. The drinks are amazing - 5 stars to the bartenders! The service was iffy. Our waitress seemed like she would rather not be there and was not friendly nor very quick on getting us our food. We ordered off the HH menu, I had the fish & chips, a couple of the co workers got the shepherds pie, mushroom soup and a few other things. Everyone really enjoyed the food. I don't think I'd be back here again because of the service but food is definitely a plus. read more

We stopped by fairly early on a Friday evening. Restaurant was fairly full, but not packed. There's a sign that says to seat yourself but a server helped us find a table and gave us menus. The Happy Hour menu is great, smallish portions and nice prices. We had potato skins for a starter, which were fairly good but needed something - not sure what. Maybe a bit under-seasoned? Still, good. Daughter had fish and chips, which is one piece of fish for the HH menu, but the waitress told us when the order was placed, so she had the option of adding another piece of fish. I ordered the sliders, one BBQ chicken which was tasty, and one meatloaf, which I found bland. The fries were nice shoestrings, very good. It's really a 3.5, but the service of late has been going down hill. Paddy and I have a complicated relationship. I've been here 10 or 15 times, and the food is always awesome. We order the seasoned fries (with curry sauce!) for the table every time, and have had great success with the fish&chips, kabobs, and sandwiches. Their happy hour prices are a great deal for DT Bellevue. I love the atmosphere here. It's dark and small, yet has quite the Irish vibe and positive feel to it. There are tables and booths, as well as a bar to sit at. There are a few TVs that usually have a couple sports games on. One weird lunch day they were showing The Real Housewives though... But we won't go there. They have a stamp card system here which is what continually brings me back. My competitive nature is determined to fill out those cards! However this requires spending quite a bit of money on drinks, and I'd really like to get good service for the amount of $$ I'm throwing around. As a young woman here I tend to either get hit on, or simply treated like crap since my "demographic" is known to not tip well. This has really put a damper on the experience lately. Side note- as soon as I pull out my almost-full stamp card the service always immediately gets better. Kinda lame I have to prove myself. The other reason this place loses a star is for it's one bathroom. Meaning one for everyone. Guys and girls. They can't help it but for a pub bathrooms are important! If it's in use or there's a line you either have to go across the way to a swanky restaurant (awkward!) Or upstairs in Lincoln. Definitely worth a try for everyone! read more

What happened to this restaurant? It used to be my go-to place for good fish&chips and a glass of beer... I would have given them at least 4 stars if it were a several month ago. Yes, I haven't been there for a few month...maybe I'm being punished for not being loyal enough? I ordered my fish&chips as usual this week. It came with mushy sub-par fries. Where did my favorite nice crispy shoe string fries go? So I asked a waitstaff, and was told that is a special order now. Really? I was very sad. She told me I can place another order of fries. Really? You can't just give me a basket of fries since you didn't offer it as an option when I ordered? Oh well... Then I saw on the bill that they charged $0.50 more than what's on the menu for the beer I had. They also charged $0.50 for the side of ranch I asked for. I see... tough times calls for tough measures... I'm not going to argue over $1.00, but needless to say I was very very disappointed this time. Great hangout place! It can definitely be hard to find a seat, but it's worth the wait. There are plenty of friendly people (some maybe a bit TOO friendly.. lol), and lots of TV screens tuned to whichever sports event. The tap list is varied enough that everyone will find some kind of beer they like. The bar is amenable to making whatever odd drinks you request, as well. The food has never disappointed me or my friends. The stews, fish and chips, reuben, and even the fries are super tasty. Pair it with a Guinness and kick back and chillax. Yeah, I just said chillax. It's that kind of chill place. Note: For whatever reason, my girlfriend and I ended up here on Christmas Eve after seeing a movie before heading home to our families. All I have to say is...Irish Trash Can. Never heard of it until this fateful happenstance. Gin, light rum, vodka, peach schnapps, Blue Curacao liqueur, triple sec and in this case Monster energy drink. If you have heart issues stay away from this situation. The Monster is served upside down into the glass like a Dos-Rita would. Scary. Basic "Irish" pub fare (But, what does that mean? Plentiful potatoes? In our case it was a good alternative, a switch up perhaps, of the hotel bars we were frequenting the last few nights. This also meant it was less expensive. The best thing about Paddy Coyne's would be the patio as it is fantastic for people watching. On many a great weathered day I would expect a cool pint of beer and good company on the patio to reign supreme. read more

It's always a great experience at Paddy's. The servers are always so friendly and they always make it a great time. The mac and cheese with spicy chicken sausage was delicious. Although it can get you stuffed fairly quickly and very oily, I you're gonna order baked mac and cheese and expected it to not be oily, I don't know what to tell you. Reading some of the other reviews here I'm thinking that perhaps my husband and I just ordered wrong when we tried this place. It was the first place we tried when we moved to the PNW after I had done random (Yelp-less) area searches looking for something that would be a nice celebratory experience for our move and my husband loves Irish stuff so this is what we chose. I had a shepard's pie and he had a corned beef hash. My potatoes seemed like they were instant, the interior of the pie just tasted off (and like tomato or ketchup) -- not the rich delicious pie I was expecting. My husband's plate left him disappointed too; for him, his order was just okay and when he tried mine he agreed it was not good. The service was friendly and they have Guinness on tap which my husband loved... I'm guessing their more "bar-like" options may be worth trying, but honestly we just have never had the desire to give this place another shot with all of the other good bar-like options in the area too (fish and chips can be ordered in several places within walking distance of this place!). For an Irish fix, I definitely need to do a new search (probably with Yelp this time!). read more

We went there 3 years ago for a birthday party and the food was decent, I had the fisherman's pie, fish tasted alright and the mashed potatoes crust golden. As the other reviews say,"it's alright." I went today for some HH grub and it was... OK. I got the Potato Skins and The Wedge Salad. The skins were not very exciting. Cheese, bacon, barely any onion and a ramakin of sour cream. They only serve 3 per order. The salad was also boring. Head of lettuce cut in half, blue cheese dumped on top then a little bacon and red onion. It probably took about 10 seconds to prepare my entire order plus the cheese melting time. I know this is a pub and not all about the food, and that Irish food is pretty basic and not full of exotic spices but this is Bellevue. There are some incredible HH restaurants and I think Paddys needs to pick it up a little. Maybe throw something into the sour cream to give it some zip. Definately more blue cheese crumbles on the salad. I counted ONE. The waitress also did not offer me pepper on the salad. P--lease. I don't want to be harsh... The waitress was friendly and my food came super quick. The bar was also packed which was cool for 4:00. I came in here during lunch last Thursday with two coworkers and GF. Place was pretty empty but it was the week between Christmas and New Years. Probably only 3 or 4 people on staff for the day. Considering the slowness of business that week, and the fact that is kindof sucks working that week - the service was good to go. It wasn't all cheeky and obnoxious like other Bellevue joints - they were just being cool, good people to us. Our waitress was a brunette girl, assisted by a dude with real short hair. We liked them. They kept good tabs on us and the service was quick. Had the irish death porter. It was pretty good. Had some unique flavors to it that I really liked. Fish and chips were good, although in retrospect I think I'd have opted for the sandwich. I liked that they had curry fries. We devoured it quickly. Anyway, I just gotta give the place 5 stars because I felt comfortable in there, and the waiters were just real. It's good to know there's a good Irish pub downtown. It's New Years eve. Not bad, not bad at all. And I didn't even drink anything. I noticed this place had opened up on the ground floor of Lincoln Square when it suddenly showed up on the Passport dining card I have, but hadn't ever had a reason to go try it out, so when a writing group got hosted there, I found my opportunity. Basic details first: It's small. Surprisingly small since Lincoln Square is relatively new-ish and they build everything big in Bellevue (like city blocks that measure half a mile) and as a function of said smallness, there is only one bathroom in the whole place. Fortunately, this wasn't an issue for me, and there are additional bathrooms up by Lucky Strike if you get desperate. There's an extra large booth in the back corner that's well-suited to groups, and the tables are somewhat close together, but not so much that you have to worry about accidentally knocking elbows and knees with people outside your party. What was a problem for me, was the noise level when the restaurant got busy and especially when the trivia night started up. But it comes with the territory, and I'd probably just make an effort to go during the slow times. Around 6pm it was reasonably quiet and not an issue. Our waitress was good and patient, even though I was about three times as disorganized as usual, and since I arrived before 6, I was able to order fish & chips off the happy hour menu. It came with one piece of fish which was all right. The fries were thin and crispy and overall pretty good, although there were so many that it's impossible to eat them all before they get cold. I got unlimited refills on my diet coke and all in all, enjoyed my experience enough that I would come back here for lunch, happy hour, or dinner. read more

I went to Paddy's last night after having driven past a number of times. Last night we decided to try somewhere new (that took the passport card). First off, I was surprised by how small Paddy's was. There were just a handful of other people in there so it wasn't loud, but I can imagine that it would be on a busy evening. However, the tables in the seating area are spaced in a way that one should not feel like a sardine should it be a full night. Service was good. Attentive, while not being in our faces all the time. Our drinks were never low, not even the water. I ordered that Bangers and Mash. Good, but not amazing. Others had the meatloaf (also good), an order of fries (apparently very good) and a bbq chicken quesadilla. Nothing blew me away, but I did really want to try the soda bread and was disappointed no one wanted any. I'll come back again for breakfast someday as I do love me a nice big breakfast. Overall I wasn't blown away, but I'll give them another shot or two. I will say this though: I hate cooked carrots and I actually ate theirs. It was good. read more

We have to wait about ten minutes for a table. Devon is friendly and helpful and quickly brings out our drinks. Jameson Gold (neat) for me. Irish Hot Chocolate for her. Both are delicious. I've been hankering for meatloaf and order their pub version. It's herby and tasty. The gravy and the potatoes are good. Veggies are nicely cooked, though a bit plain (what should I expect from an Irish pub?). She wanted the Fisherman's Pie, but they ran out of salmon (at six o'clock in Seattle?). Settles for the fish and chips, which are good, but not quite as good as we've had elsewhere. All-in-all, not an unpleasant experience. We might be back here again, if we need a quick meal or refreshment and we're in the area. read more

We went here recently because we drive by it often and were pretty hopeful for some good Irish food. We were a little disappointed to be honest, and probably won't be back. Nothing was seriously wrong with the food. My boyfriend got the stew and I got the corned beef and cabbage. The food itself was just missing something. I think it was all just under-seasoned, and a tad too greasy. The location was pretty awesome, and I liked the decor. The wait staff was average service, not bad but not exactly exceptional. It was just an average place with slightly disappointing food. It may have been an off day, and I've heard good things about it, so if you want to give it a shot I would say go for it. My department came here for a little work outing and it worked out well. The service was friendly and professional. Our server was very good with giving recommendations, especially with regard to their beer selection. I opted for Harp's and was very pleased considering I'm a picky beer drinker. We started with the spicy Guinness chicken tenders which weren't as spicy as I liked but were so savory. Good balance of flavors. They even took the effort to cut up the celery into strips, which tastes better. Everyone except me ordered the fish and chips. They were raving about it the entire time. Apparently, they clean and prep the fish in house so it's really fresh. I ordered the Reuben and it was fine. They cut the corned beef much too thin so the toasting process jerkied the stragglers hanging outside the bread. It was a little dry and undersalted. Plus the ingredients that were supposed to have strong flavors didn't really pop. I'll have to go back to Mt. Shasta for that great Reuben... The shoestring fries were great. They're served in a mound with your entree and are just slightly underseasoned but have a wonderfully light crispy batter on them. We also opted to use their Dinner and a Movie special. With a purchase of an entree, you can get a $5 movie pass. They add it to your food bill, give you a certificate and you just go upstairs to the movie theater, walk inside to the Guest Services table (no need to wait in line!), tell them what movie you want to see and they tell you which theater to go to. Went last night with a co-worker while waiting for a conference to start. Caught some happy hour and I had noticed that they brought back the Guinness family! It was nice to see Harp and Smithwicks back on tap so my friend could have a real black and tan and a smithwicks for me! We ordered a round of Powers and a basket 'o fries. The fries were amazingly delicious and I usually don't even like potatoes! That's no ordinary basket of fries! The atmosphere was themed and clean. The Bellevue location has always been a bit small but they do their best with what they have. The main reason I am giving this 5 stars is because the service was more than awesome and I would like to highlight that here. We actually came half way on a shift change and they communicated well, were very attentive, and had great energy. Thanks! I believe you made a big fan out of my co-worker as I wanted to share this establishment with him. Good customer service, immediate seating today (Saturday at 6:30pm). Had the lamb skewer small plate, definitely recommend. Comes with 3 but I wish it came with 4 or 5 (given the amount of mashed potato that accompanies it). Great flavor, very tender. The peanut sauce is fantastic. Had the shepherd's pie, but dont necessarily recommend it. Instead, opt for the Lamb pot pie! Herbally gravy, with a little warm spiciness that isn't overpowering. Is made using puff pastry top crust, but doesn't have an interior/bottom crust. 10/10 would eat this again. read more

A small venue reminiscent of the way European pubs can be, a great place to meet friends for a pint. Very happening especially later in the evening. Several tv screen. Great appetizers and main dishes, even better at happy hour. Had sliders, Irish beef stew and fisherman's pie - all very good. The Guinness chocolate cake was better than at at their SLU location because it had more chocolate. The salted caramel apple pie, a special dessert, with "loads of apple" seemed unfortunately overwhelmingly disappointing because half of the apples apparently fell off the proverbial truck between the kitchen and our table. For $2 more than the chocolate cake I would have expected something quite outstanding. Instead it seemed a small slice of pie with a 1" ball of ice cream. Learned my lesson: stick to the regular menu. Service was upbeat and efficient. We're looking forward to going back! read more

We started with potato skins, which were good, but with bacon, cheese and green onions, how could you really go wrong? I ordered the shepards pie and the bf ordered the bangers & mash. The potatoes were bland, and I kind of expected more flavor from the beef. I've actually had better shepards pie from the Cheesecake Factory, and that kind of tells me it could be better. Microsoft Prime 2009-2010 Ambience: 2 Food: 3 Value: 1 I had a bad experience: food is mediocre, the prime deal disappoints, the ambience is lacking. Firstly, this place's Prime deal is bad. It is 2 for 1, but only one discount can be used per table. In contrast, you can use 2 (so 4 for 2) at most other locations and even 3 at the melting pot. The waitress and the manager were not pleasant about it. We asked for the bill to be split so we can use 3 discounts. Despite giving us the bills separately, they informed us that they can't do multiple discounts if we're at the same table. Subsequently, they went off for 10 minutes only to returned to tells us that we can only use 1. They went off again for 10 minutes to get their manager to tell us the same thing; they even seemed annoyed at us for wasting their time. The final straw was then taking another 20 minutes to run our credit cards. I'm usually not picky with service because it can vary, but this was poor. Second, despite the good location, the ambience is intolerable. They tried to cram as many seats into the place as possible. The L shaped bar is up against both the window and the seating area with little room for standing. With the exception of a couple of booths, the tables are tight together with no privacy at all. With just a few people in there, it was already incredibly loud. It's also not the kind of lively Irish bar loud either. There's no music and with the lack of standing room at the bar, it wasn't very lively. There is outdoor seating, but it is opens right on the turn from 8th onto Bellevue way with constant traffic noise. Outdoor seating is also close to the side exit, so we got quaffs of cigarette smoke from the steam of people coming out of Lincoln square for a smoke. Finally, the food was mediocre. I was very hungry and had high expectations for the food. But it doesn't measure up to the various Irish places I've tried before. The stew was watery (for those that know Irish stews, it's supposed to be thick). The shepards pie looked like somebody put a scoop of mash potatoes on top of some hamburger. This might be the 2nd or 3rd Irish place I've been to...ever. I've been here a few times for their happy hour and really like what they offer. They have lots of great food options and standard happy hour drink prices. The Paddy's IPA is pretty good and I always gets the shepherd's pie and basket of fries...so delicious and decently portioned. I don't know what Irish food is supposed to taste like, but I've enjoyed the food I've had here, including the potato and leek soup and meatloaf sliders. Last night we also tried their apple crisp which is noted on the menu as having a crunchy topping...false advertisement. The dessert was mushy and had no crisp or crunch to it. It was compacted and soft like bread pudding with a slight apple dessert flavor. However, the dessert is served with their irish whiskey praline ice cream which is absolutely delicious! We'll have to order the ice cream by itself next time. The location is convenient (in Lincoln Square) and offers free parking (validation required during certain hours). The service is mediocre, but much better at the bar. Overall, I like this place and will definitely return. read more

I think the number one thing that I enjoy about this place is they actually have a late night happy hour and they actually stay open late enough for people to actually enjoy a late night happy hour. Unlike almost every other place in downtown Bellevue, Paddy Coyne's knows how to serve the people and knows how to feed their tummies late at night! I'm not an expert explorer of the menu here, but I have been here for late night irish coffee and some dessert, and than most recently for drinks and irish potato skins. The guinness cake is fantastic, and so is everything on their dessert menu for that matter. One of my favorite places to stop and get a late night slice of something heavenly with a halfway decent irish coffee. I really enjoyed the irish potato skins. Coming from someone who's not much of a fan of stews, soda bread, shepherd's pie, I figured I'd give it a slight chance, and this was a great option to try it on! I am completely and utterly dumbfounded by the lack of professionalism in the owners response to a previous review. Respectfully that was absolutely disgusting and infuriating to read, retorting with such low blows and attacking the reviewers character rather than taking ownership of their poor service. I frequented this pub last week as well, and as someone with 6 years in the restaurant/bar service industry I was appalled by the service at this establishment. If I saw my section filled with esteem business professionals I would be thrilled for the opportunity to provide some great service, and in all transparency make some great money in tips! However the reality was the servers were unable to keep track of patrons drink orders, making others unfairly pay for drinks they did not consume, yelling at those patrons saying that they can't keep up and that someone needs to pay. That poor service should not put the monetary responsibility on innocent bystanders. The servers were so rude and mean, calling multiple patrons a 'b*tch' and defending that sentiment with 'I hate people' it is very clear indeed that the people who operate this pub hate people. Multiple servers on multiple occasions were just downright mean and nasty, I hate to say it. Small business or not, an establishment should not harass its patrons to this degree regardless of its size or tenure. When I first arrived here, there was a wait for a table, so I automatically assumed the service - especially on a Friday night - was going to suffer. NOT TRUE! Our waitress was amazing!!! Once we waited for a table, she sat us, and our glasses were always full, she checked on us regularly, and even though the place was slammed, it was as though she didn't notice. Now the food: we had potato skins as an appetizer (delicious!), and I had the cod sandwich (also delicious!). I'll be back again, the food and the service receive 5 stars. read more
