Barrels is THE spot! It's the perfect place in which to spend an afternoon/evening relaxing and conversing. I love children, but it's nice to have an adult-only space too, and Barrels is that place. There is a very welcoming atmosphere towards those such as myself who do not drink alcohol and instead prefer to sip on non-alcoholic beverages -- of which there is an extensive and diverse variety of selections. I have never felt any pressure to drink alcohol at all here, jokingly or otherwise. The food is excellent too -- also extensive and diverse. I especially love the Salish Sandwich. There is no TV there and the lack thereof helps to facilitate a calm, peaceful, and lively atmosphere in stark contrast to bars in which there are TVs. Josh is one of the friendliest people I have ever met on Mercer Island and his knowledge of wine is, for those who do drink it, is invaluable.

Barrels has a new owner and so it was trepidation that I went last night. A change in ownership often means that a once loved place loses its charm. I met the new owner, Josh and he was transparent with what he's working on. That was reassuring because it's how the previous owners handled themselves too. The food was good and paired well with the wine. The wine selection remains good and he was there to provide some insights into the lesser or unknown-to-me vineyards. I was a little concerned that there were still seats open but then I realized that it was a Tuesday night and felt better as it filled up. I. Glad to see that this little privately owned gem is still functioning. Please support this small business. BTW - they have a few bottles of Leonetti Winery for those that are looking for one of the WA great wines. They do have live music on some evenings and support local artists by hanging their art. Tip: signup for their email list to get the latest news from Josh

Have been meaning to pop in here and check the new wine bar out. Finally made it in and wish I had come sooner! Cute place with a lot of great wine (& beer) and food to choose from. They have a good amount of seating and if you want to buy one of their bottles and drink on site they have a small corkage fee. I ordered one of the Spanish Rioja Rosè's during HH ($8 normally and -$1 during HH) and a $5 meat and cheese plate. I was in a bit of a rush but had I not been I would have ordered one of their larger dishes that includes some cambazola and other cheeses as well as seafood. Service is great! I can't wait to come back with a group!

I miss being able to visit as I used to. But this is one of the best wine bars in the state. Great wines.

They do have a good wine list, but the pricing is HIGH. Think $25-$45 PER GLASS. Some of the wines this made sense for, but they really should consider adding a wine or two below $25 per glass. I have my WSET 2 and know a decent amount about wines so could understand why some of them were priced like this, but the whole menu being this high was strange. $32 for a glass of pinot noir didn't sit right with me. We asked to do flights so we could try a few things, but they said they were only doing glass pours. We asked for a rec for an acidic, fruity red and felt like the gal just told us the most expensive non-tannic red on the menu. Fine. For $32 a glass, I would not order what I got again. We headed to a restaurant after and got $14 glass pours that we preferred. This is a great place to go to impress someone with the chic vibes, but good wine can be found elsewhere at a fraction of the price. I do see the appeal though. It was also pretty loud when we went, so we chose to finish our conversation elsewhere.

Five stars, if only because my brother's impossible standards were finally defeated…read more A group of us stopped by after pickleball for brunch, and everything from the service to the food was fantastic. My brother is, without question, the pickiest diner I know. He's spent the better part of fifty years conducting what appears to be an unofficial cheeseburger audit of the West Coast. He orders a burger almost everywhere we go, critiques every one of them, and has been known to send food back without a second thought. So when he took one bite of the cheeseburger, quietly kept eating, refused to share a single truffle fry, and eventually announced, "This is the best burger I've ever had," the rest of us nearly fell out of our chairs. There wasn't a single complaint, which may be a first in recorded family history. Even more impressive, he's already been back twice on his own. I went in a completely different direction and finished brunch with the date and molasses cake. It immediately reminded me of the English toffee dessert that Citizen Cake in San Francisco used to make years ago. Rich, buttery, and not overly sweet, with house-made ice cream providing the perfect balance, it was one of those desserts that makes you slow down because you don't want the last bite to be the last bite. Great food, warm service, and a relaxed atmosphere. If Yelp allowed six stars, I'd award the extra one for the burger's remarkable ability to temporarily stop my brother from whining.

I love sitting at the bar and watching the bartenders work. The cocktails here are incredible! It may actually be the reason I don't visit Allister more because I want to drink all their cocktails since they are so good. I am a huge fan of the Emerald City Sour and the Mr. Bluesky because I have a weak spot for delicious gin cocktails with egg whites. The food has always been delicious. The burger is big and juicy, and the steak frites are a perfect size and cooked to perfection. The French fries could feed a small army. The fish and chips may have been my favorite because suddenly I felt like I was back in London with that big breaded filet. It was crispy on the outside, tender on the in, and nicely savory. I have gone here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lunch may be my favorite time because it typically is a bit more chill than either brunch or dinner. Allister can get very busy and when it is busy it can become quite loud. The restaurant is very bright and inviting. I love the wood tones and they have an amazing bar. Very comfortable! I highly recommend Allister!
