Extremely terrible experience and it's only with one simple fixable thing: the bartender. The bartender has a very bad attitude. One of the things that happened when I visited this bar was I asked for a simple lemonade. The reason was because I had a soccer game the next day and I didn't want to drink alcohol and I wanted to get some electrolytes in me. It would have been very simple for the bartender to just say, "I'm sorry we don't serve lemonade." Instead what he did is say I worked here 20 years and he never served lemonade and then kept scoffing at me. He kept saying this three times, walking back and forth, up until the point the patron next to me even said, "Don't worry about him." After that without even me talking to him, he said, "Who orders lemonade at an Irish pub?" Then without me saying anything, he said, "No one orders lemonade at an Irish pub." I was honestly just trying to get a drink and he made me feel very dumb. Overall if a patron asks you for a drink, it's very easy just to say, "I'm sorry we can't do that," but he kept making me feel like an idiot. I was also surprised they did not serve lemonade; that's a very simple request. He didn't offer any alternatives except for 7-Up, which I didn't really want but paid for anyway. I ended up not drinking it even after I paid for it and leaving the bar. I guess the bartender got what he wanted. He gave me a drink that was other than lemonade; he made me pay for it and I just left the bar unhappy. I would highly recommend against visiting this establishment, especially with the grumpy bartender. He is an older white Irish guy. I understand they might have your own customers at the bar but I think it costs nothing to treat patrons with respect and not tell them that they're stupid for asking for a drink. Overall I would not recommend this place at all. Very enforced error. Sad! read more

This place is always so great! They have the best Irish coffees! The staff are always so welcoming and cool. I've been here a few times after dinner. The ambiance is chill and they have a pretty good mix of tunes. I've heard corrido, old school rock, pop and a mix of others. This gets crowded! Love that it had locals and a mix of out of town. The age group also varies with younger folks to older folks. Everyone is welcome. There's the owner? Or main bartender who always holds down the fort. She does an amazing job getting everyone's drinks with a smile! She makes amazing Irish coffees! Highly recommend this place. One of my favorite dive bars. They also have an Irish newspaper that tells you local events (The Irish Herald). Very handy. In all my days bopping around the Peninsula and especially because I have family in Burlingame.. it was the first time I had ever stepped foot into Paddy Flynn's. Super impromptu meetup with a girlfriend, I said let's try out Paddy Flynn's. We got a Guiness (duh) and a gin and tonic. Bartender was no-nonsense. I expected it to be crowded due to the 49ers/Seahawks game, but we were able to grab a high top. It served its purpose and we were able to catch up over a drink. Crowd was mixed, and even some of the seemingly-random patrons knew each other. It's what you would expect from a pub. Dark. Lively. Straightforward. Will be back. read more

Paddy Flynn's is the perfect antidote to upscale lounges. It is a classic, unpretentious neighborhood pub with a great patio, heavy pours, and an incredible Irish Coffee. There is no kitchen, but you can bring your own food. It is easily the best casual hangout spot in town. read more

Stopped by late Wednesday afternoon after lunch in the area. It wasn't busy, so the group got a chance to hang out for quite some time. The space was nice and clean, the bartender was friendly. They have a selection of beers on tap and while there was no menu in sight, the bartender was nice enough to make me a gin and tonic. I love a good dive bar and this one is definitely the vibe, lots of friendly people inside and the staff were so nice as well. Drinks were made well. Outside patio is nice to hang out if you wanna watch the game. Dogs seem to be welcome outside if they are on a leash ( per the sign outside) so fur friends welcome! read more

We were very pleasantly surprised to find a dive bar in the middle of Burlingame in our search for Irish Coffee without venturing into SF. The quality of the drinks here is pretty decent. Although the whipped cream on the Irish coffee is out of a can instead of homemade, it's a small compromise that I'm willing to take for convenience and in place of the premium charged by SF establishments. I also love the vibe here. We always see the same familiar faces whenever we come by, including the chill dog that's always roaming around the bar. We sometimes bring our dog nephew to hang out. PADDY'S DOES NOT SERVE FOOD. You can bring food, or have food delivered, or buy potato chips from a box neatly displayed under the bar, but PADDY'S DOES NOT SERVE FOOD. If you want a friendly place where everyone either loves your jukebox selections or actively complains about your jukebox selections while you try to enjoy them, then this is your spot. The prices are reasonable, the pours are generous, the bartenders are tending bar, and the regulars are often mistaken for furniture. In fact, I once sat on a stool at the bar and after my 2nd shot of tequila, I heard some annoyed mumbling and I realized that my stool was actually Brian, and he had to go to the bathroom. My favorite times to go are Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday night, and every other day and night. There's a nice covered patio outback for smoking and satellite tv. Your pet is welcome as long as it's on leash. A recent paint job and remodeling are nice improvements. If you are a wine officionado, I highly recommend the Yellow Tail, vintage Tuesday. I love a dive bar to grab a drink. Sticky floors, no mirror above the sink. Draining some pints on a wooden bench, both your soul and your thirst quenched. But Paddy Flynn's misses the mark, sure, it looked promising and dark. Bartender pleasant enough, but then a bunch of reasons we won't return again. One of the beers had a foul smell, like a horse had died and come back from hell. Dirty lines is likely the culprit there, I wanted a beer, not a rotting mare. We planned to drink and stay a while but then "Shirley" arrived wasted and riled. "You're not supposed to be here!" they yelled at shadowy Shirley, who couldn't be quelled. We didn't feel comfortable anymore. Left the whole beer, and rushed out the door. Expectations are low for a dive bar but this was so bad, it's a one star. read more

Solid dive bar in Burlingame. I'm rarely on the peninsula, but I was meeting up with a friend outside of my normal 7x7 and had no idea where to go or what would be open on a Wednesday night. Just off of the main drag, we found Paddy Flynns which, despite the closed blinds and darkness, was still open. It is a total dive bar with sticky surfaces and the like, but the price is right at ~$5 a beer. There are a couple of TVs so it was a good place to catch up on sports highlights, and I think there was a small patio area in the back. read more

As newbies to Burlingame and the Bay Area, my husband and I made our initial rounds this summer to get to know the various bars and nightlife spots around the Burlingame strip(s). For whatever reason, the first time we visited this place it was a particularly dead night, I was only girl in the bar, and we didn't get a really good vibe from it. Last night, we thought we should give it another try...as it is a four to five block walk from our apartment and we generally like Irish pubs...boy was I glad we did, because we had a great time and saw a completely different side to this place and Burlingame itself! Our first observation upon walking in was the bartender doing shots with four or five patrons at the bar to our left...while we were standing there deciding what to order, she came down and welcomed us in by saying, "I've got one extra of these (Surfer on Acid shots - Jager, Pineapple Juice, and Malibu), would you guys like it?" Right about then, I could already tell I was going to like this place...so we ordered one more (for a perfect pair) and took the shot...perfectly mixed, reminded me of warm nights in the tropics...and helped me immediately decide that I was going to drink Pineapple juice and Malibu the rest of the night because I hadn't had it in forever! Once we completed our drink order and sat down at the bar, the girl sitting to our right, rolled out the welcome wagon (as she later put it) by introducing herself and explaining that Paddy Flynn's is the place, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," which is wonderful, because my husband and I have been searching for such a Cheers-like neighborhood pub for a while... Anyway, not to bore you with our entire night, I'll just say watching the bartender drink with the patrons, getting the inside story from our fellow drinker to the right about Burlingame history, places to check out, etc., and downing some very well mixed drinks made for a very fun night - and one I would love to repeat in the near future (at Paddy Flynn's) in the future! P.S. According to our source, there IS a real Paddy Flynn that owns the bar and he be found frequenting the bar on any given night - can't wait to meet him! read more
