Authentic British pub - dim lighting, dark wood, walls covered in knick knacks and funny slogans. I've personally never tried the food but the fish and chips look good. Cocktails are basic and good for the price. My only complaint is the guinness - not the best pour and most notably, not in a proper glass.

Came here for the fish and chips because of Kenji Lopez-Alt. Beer battered with a thicker but crispy shell. It's not the light airy style batter of other fish and chips. Fish is the catch of the day which today was haddock. Really delicious and on Mondays for lunch is on happy hour for $12 in June 2025 for two pieces of generously sized fish. Sat in the backyard garden with our infant enjoying the nice Spring day. Burger was solid too, chargrilled, and cooked medium rare on a 1/4 lb patty. Their homemade sauce on it is excellent. Onion rings were also crispy and tasty and the onion doesn't pull out. Service was attentive and fantastic, order at the bar. Great place for a casual lunch alone or with friends!

Fun karaoke place every Wednesdays to Saturday nights 9:30 pm - 1:30 am. Here on a Saturday night & the place is pumping and good crowd as well.

Take out fish and chips and calamari. Very fresh fish. I like the chips too. The bar has a cool vibe.

I wouldn't say I'm a regular, but I enjoy going to this place. Every time we went there is always good time. Although last time I went on Sunday, it was so quiet and very few people. Unfortunately, I have never tried their legendary fish and chips!!! I will submit another review once I tried it. We tried irish slammer and it was great! This place has many varieties of drinks, and their bartenders always know their stuff.

I used to come here for the dueling pianos, but it was usually dead upstairs with more guests coming to enjoy the karaoke on the lower level. Visiting this past weekend, years later since the last time I was here, I learned that they no longer have dueling pianos, which I think was a good decision (as much as I love dueling pianos). Karaoke is still the big hit here (along with their fish and chips of course). But they also had live music in their outdoor patio in the back, which was good cuz it was way too crowded for comfort inside when we arrived around 10pm on a Saturday. We enjoyed the sounds of island music on the keyboard, guitar, and vocals, some Bob Marley, and unique renditions of late 90's rnb, just good vibes all around. The outdoor setting was casual and cozy with picnic tables and a few other seating options available. By 10:45pm, the indoor crowd had diminished to something more manageable and we had a much easier time getting seating and service inside, to stay a little while longer and enjoy the karaoke entertainment. It felt like your friendly neighborhood bar (standard service and decent drinks, not the strongest but good flavor) and karaoke seemingly all performed by regulars, some interesting characters coming up on stage. It was fine. I'd stick with the live music outside though if I had to choose. Overall the place is far from perfect, but it's still one of my favorite spots in San Mateo for some late-night drinks and entertainment.

Nightly karaoke. She'll British five. Apparently they serve food. I came for open mic on a Monday night. There was a lot of parking nearby on the street, parking, lots nearby especially for the evening time. Pretty safe area. My favorite thing about this place was the vibe. It was so British. I couldn't believe it. The bartender was amazing. She was so sweet and involved. Definitely coming back.

Hazy Beer with fruity notes!! Yummy!!

My friend recommended this place so we could do Karaoke plus she said the Fish n' Chips were good. You get the fish portions cut in chunks so all sides are crispy vs. long fish pieces. It was definitely crunchy & the fries were thick cut. It came with ketchup & tartar sauce. We also got the Hot Wings which were nicely done, no excess breading & had the hot sauce on the side so you could control your spice level. Had a few beers on tap including a Russian River Pliny the Elder Double Pale Ale. She said that's special as they don't offer this beer in many places. She's actually bought cases of beer at the brewery but was limited to 1 case/pp. She'd bring some friends to take advantage of the deal. I tried it but not into bitter beer so I tried the Hazy beer & loved it! It had a clean finish & sweet, fruity notes. Also fun was the Karaoke night! We sauntered back inside & were able to snag a table in an already packed area. There was a lively group who had a bday party & a lot of folks sang a song. They were all good. A few regulars went up to sing as well. My friend knew them as she frequents this often. Okay...she's a regular, LOL!! Lots of screens to read the lyrics & sing along with. Really fun place!

As of 9/24/22, Wed-Sat from 9:30p-1:30a (source: I called. Answering to say you don't know adds nothing, why do it?)

What time do they stop serving food on Fridays/Saturdays?

Their web site states food 11am un til late night

    When is their happy hour?

4-6PM half off food on the board

Is the piano bar and dining open to adults under 21?

It is a bar, therefore most likely you have to be 21 and older.

What are the fish and chips like?

We have the best fish and chips on the Peninsula and our award winning chef was chosen best fish and chip chef. We buy are fish every week so it’s fresh and tasty. The recipe for our beer batter produces a light crispy golden mouthwatering product.

One of the things that happened when I visited this bar was I asked for a simple lemonade. The reason was because I had a soccer game the next day and I didn't want to drink alcohol and I wanted to get some electrolytes in me. It would have been very simple for the bartender to just say, "I'm sorry we don't serve lemonade." Instead what he did is say I worked here 20 years and he never served lemonade and then kept scoffing at me. He kept saying this three times, walking back and forth, up until the point the patron next to me even said, "Don't worry about him." After that without even me talking to him, he said, "Who orders lemonade at an Irish pub?" Then without me saying anything, he said, "No one orders lemonade at an Irish pub." I was honestly just trying to get a drink and he made me feel very dumb. Overall if a patron asks you for a drink, it's very easy just to say, "I'm sorry we can't do that," but he kept making me feel like an idiot. I was also surprised they did not serve lemonade; that's a very simple request. He didn't offer any alternatives except for 7-Up, which I didn't really want but paid for anyway. I ended up not drinking it even after I paid for it and leaving the bar. I guess the bartender got what he wanted. He gave me a drink that was other than lemonade; he made me pay for it and I just left the bar unhappy. I would highly recommend against visiting this establishment, especially with the grumpy bartender. He is an older white Irish guy. I understand they might have your own customers at the bar but I think it costs nothing to treat patrons with respect and not tell them that they're stupid for asking for a drink. Overall I would not recommend this place at all. Very enforced error. Sad!

I'm currently living in San Francisco for six weeks while caring for my father, who is recovering from a double lung transplant at UCSF. It's been an emotionally exhausting time, and I was excited to find a neighborhood bar within walking distance where I could occasionally relax and decompress. I first discovered this bar after a trip to Trader Joe's. During that visit, the bartenders, especially Chris, and the rest of the staff were welcoming, friendly, attentive, and wonderful. Based on that experience, I was looking forward to returning. Unfortunately, my interactions with the owner have been the complete opposite. On my second visit, the owner repeatedly ignored me while I was trying to order. When he noticed my service dog, who was leashed, quietly sitting beside me, and causing absolutely no disruption, he loudly yelled across a crowded bar, "Get your dog out of here." I calmly explained that he is a service dog. The owner immediately rolled his eyes and demanded to know what service my dog provides. Because I did not feel comfortable disclosing personal medical information to a room full of strangers, I asked if I could privately show documentation instead. He became increasingly hostile, telling me that he "knew his rights" and that I "didn't know anything," while continuing to demand an explanation. Feeling embarrassed and cornered, I reluctantly answered his question. He rolled his eyes again and asked, "What do you want?" When I ordered a Corona, he responded by pointing his finger in my face and saying, "You mean you want a Corona PLEASE." He refused to serve me unless I repeated the order exactly as he demanded. I was shocked, humiliated, and left the bar in tears. Several patrons nearby apologized to me and expressed how uncomfortable they were witnessing the interaction. A few days later, I decided to give the bar a second chance and brought my partner with me. My partner was seated with my service dog while I walked to the bar to order. The owner immediately recognized me and once again said, "Get your dog out." I calmly reminded him that we had already had this conversation and that I had previously explained my dog's service role. He responded by asking whether I was providing a service to the dog or whether the dog was providing a service to me. After I again explained the situation, he asked what I wanted to order. I ordered two dirty gin martinis, and before I could even finish speaking, he began walking away. When he returned with the check, I asked him to keep the tab open. He again corrected me and said I needed to say, "Keep it open PLEASE." At that point, I asked why he seemed to treat me this way every time I came in. His response was, "Piss off. Finish your martini and you're never allowed back here again. Get out." Once again, I left in tears. Once again, nearby patrons appeared shocked by the way I was being treated. I've worked in professional environments my entire career and strive to treat everyone with kindness, patience, and respect. I was never rude, disruptive, or confrontational. I simply wanted to enjoy a drink at a neighborhood bar while accompanied by my service dog. The bartenders and staff were wonderful. My experience with the owner, however, was one of the most humiliating and hostile customer service experiences I have ever had.

I told him he should mention it and see if they could bring him something else, but he was adamant that would just make more work for them and he'd feel bad. I did remind him that shepards' pie is not a very seasoned meal. And he said it wasn't just that, but that everything tasted like it came out of tin. I reminded him, as a human who has lived in England, that this was also not out of the ordinary. Other than parking challenges on a busy night in the downtown, we were lucky to get a table for 5 relatively quickly, as this place isn't that large, with some additional bar seating, and it seems very popular. 5:30 was a great time, as we watched the waiting line grow longer after we were seated. Our server, Michael J., did a great job of greeting us, providing menus, and taking initial drink orders while we decided what to try. We decided to try BBQ honey wings, fried artichoke hearts, and onion rings for appetizers. The main courses were two orders of kids' cheese pizza and tater tots, a small dinner salad, a cup of New England-style clam chowder, and a NY Steak sandwich. The food came in a reasonable time, with appetizers and salad first, then the rest. The apps were good, but the onion rings were a bit greasy. The honey wings were well-liked, as well as the artichoke hearts, which, strangely, were not oily like the onion rings. Yummy! The cheese pizzas paired with tater tots were certainly different, but the pizza was more like a reheated frozen pizza. The tots were okay. The NY Steak sandwich was good as well, with a side of steak fries - obviously! Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would definitely consider dining here in the future when in town.

Second night I came was on a Saturday. I only ordered drinks. There was a bigger crowd but barely, 15-20 people. Overall my opinion of this place is positive and yet I was disappointed that it wasn't better. It's in a great location. There's hotels and condominiums in the area all within walking distance. The atmosphere is great. The staff is awesome! It has so many positive aspects that should make it a regular hangout spot but for some reason it's failing. I'm giving it 5 stars because I feel it deserves better. People should give this place a shot. There is a dart board that is free to play which I think is awesome. A big patio area for large parties. The beer prices are very reasonable. Suggestion to the establishment: They have an AMI juke box, but on both nights the volume was turned down pretty low which kind of made me feel like I wasn't getting my money's worth. Turn it up!!! This place needs to figure out if it wants to be a restaurant that serves beer or be a bar that serves food. Personally I think it needs to realize that it needs to focus on being a bar. There's 15 other restaurants within walking distance from here and that food is 100 times better. This place should focus on getting the customers that leave those restaurants for after meal drinks.
