We were looking for a place to get paella and figured a place with "paella" in it's name must have good paella and it did. My wife & I split a pitcher of sangria and the BLACK SQUID INK PAELLA also known as PAELLA NEGRA DE MARISCO which we loved. We were able to split an order although most paella places want to sell it per person. The service was slow to start (we sat outside) but was fine once we ordered. Having spent a lot of time in Barcelona I have pretty high standards for my Paella we had a few different ones here and all of them were good but none of them were overly impressive. I will say that service was great and friendly and ambiance was great - we loved watching them make the Paella! Long story short, I had one of the flat out best dishes I've ever eaten in my entire life here, if not the best one! I was in Barcelona for a week and was staying in the Gràcia neighborhood for a couple days, when I came across Paella del Arte while exploring the neighborhood. It was a Friday around noon, and it was pretty packed, but luckily I was able to get a seat right away. On to the food! For starters, I ordered some pescaditos fritos, which were so good! They were super flavorful, and also had the right balance between too crunchy and too chewy. I've tried little fried fish from several cultures, and I must say, this was the best I I've ever had! And now the star of the show, the paella negra de mariscos, or black(squid ink) seafood paella! This very may well be the best single dish I've ever had! No joke! This was AMAZING! I savored every single bite and wish it didn't end! Lol! The squid, shrimp, mussels...everything was so flavorful and tasted so fresh! The squid ink sauce tasted so good with the rice, and the lemon helped set off the dish as well! And speaking of the rice, the texture was so perfect! This entire dish was pure perfection! My group came across this place and were intrigued by watching the chefs cook the paella through the entry way. We weren't disappointed! We ordered various tapas, however some of them were sold out (turned out to be ok, we didn't need them) but the tapas are a generous serving and great for sharing. The paella comes out on a large pan that it's cooked on, so it's hot! It looks like a lot, but it's actually pretty easy to eat the whole pan if you're hungry. We cleared out 3 paella pans within a group of 4. The nice thing about the restaurant is that they had vegetarian tapas and paella for our vegetarian friend in the group. Our waiter was also very friendly and helpful! It's helpful to know Spanish to order easily, but the picture menu makes it really easy to order if you don't speak Spanish. read more

If you are in the area, not a bad spot for a drink and a tapa. They have a nice outdoor seating area and the AC indoor area is roomy. Service was great and very quick. I did like how they would make individual paella dishes, but the service, ambiance, and taste of Bosque Palermo's paella makes it a better choice than Paella del Arte. Bumping what would be a 3 star experience to 4 stars because they have vegetarian paella and actually call out that it is made with veggie stock! I was pretty surprised to see a Spanish restaurant so informed on the vegetarian experience. While the paella wasn't the best I had, it held its own. The vegetables were fresh and the flavor good. A crispier, more caramelized bottom would have made it a home run. Half was plenty for me, but my big boo ate all his seafood paella, which had plenty of large seafood pieces. Service was friendly and attentive, but the atmosphere lacking. It's next to the Casa Pedrera, so expect a low-key touristy joint (complete with picture menus, which I won't penalize them for because I can see them as helpful to someone new to tapas). While this spot comes off a little touristy, it should be praised for its excellent service and affordable quality food (13 € for the seafood paella). My sister and I were really excited to try this place and had high expectations, but the service killed it for us. I was very disappointed with a dish, but our server decided to charge us anyways. My sister and I only took one bite and barely touched the plate. I asked him if he could replace it with something else and he said OK, but he charged us more for the dish. On the menu it was only 14 euros, but when I saw the receipt, we were charged 21 euros! On top of that, we waited over an hour for our Seafood Paella. The chefs must of forgot or our server made it seem like it was their fault because after asking several times, and finally waiting an hour, I heard our server yell at the chefs in front of all the tables. So unprofessional! The service is super slow. The table next to us waited 20 minutes just to get their receipt and I also saw them bring out the wrong dishes to various tables. I overheard people complain about their service. When I tried getting a server his attention, he just walked away and gave me the hand. I'm giving this place three stars because their seafood paella and grilled garlic prawns were amazingly delicious. They also have a ton of different paellas to choose from. They really need to work on their service. It's too bad because I loved their food, but I'm not sure if I will come back because of our last experience. I ordered a vegetarian paella and was served a meat one. When I brought this up to a server, he questioned my order and had the order pulled up to double check. Obviously, I ordered correctly according to my dietary preference. They said it would come quickly, however I had to wait over 30 minutes (the rest of my table had already finished their food). After a while with no-show, the waiter came back and said "sorry for the wait, there's a lot of people here and the kitchen is confused." I just looked at him blankly and thought of the excuses the just came out of his mouth. Finally, I was served my dish. The rest of my table had to wait patiently while I was finally able to eat my food. We had walked by this place a few times and thought to give it a try as it is very close to our hotel. We had the vegetarian paella and we added some chicken pinchos. It was delicious! We began our dinner very excited to not only be in this cute flamenco decor inspired restaurant but because the downstairs has air conditioning! (This is paramount to your experience in hot summer Barcelona). We ordered the Jarra de Sangría (a pitcher), the croquettes de jamón (ham), pulpo (octopus) and mejillones en ajo (mussels in garlic sauce). I asked for larger wine glasses for the sangria which never came, extra napkins/wet wipes that we never received and water that must have got lost somewhere. The food was sub-par to other locations nearby with similar menu options and I'm positive the "sangria" was red koolaid with floating apples - no taste of sangria anywhere. Ohhh...maybe THAT was supposed to be water and he forgot the sangria? The octopus had little flavor, too chewy and zero salt. The mejillones were completely drowned in too much garlic and cheese. The croquettes were overcooked and slightly burnt. Anyhoo...It is painfully obvious the waitstaff is underpaid and overworked as the waiter had zero hesitation in ASKING for a tip. Sadly, since the food was barely a 3/5 stars I'll be remembering his rudeness and inattentive service over the cook's dishes. Bottom line: find another dinner spot. read more

My girlfriend and I came here for our last supper in Barcelona. She happened to chance this place on her own before we decided to go for it. We decided to have dinner at seven instead of eight which is their dinner time begins. We sat on the red couch benches behind the bar area. The young mail wait staff was sweet. The manager was efficient and the lady bar staff were great. Anyway, we sat right below a high TV screen which played Spanish bull dance and lady flamenco dancing. We were convinced that the paella was better than the ones we had the night before on Carrera de Balmes. It was a disaster when the place was opened no longer than 2 weeks. We ordered squid ink paella and the chef paella dishes accompanied with delicious traditional sangrias. They were so much better than the ones we had the night before. We had a great time talking and recapping our trip in Barcelona. We were enjoying and tickled that some Chinese patrons were speaking Mandarin only when the male wait staff replying to them in Spanish. I told him that they were asking for their food as they were leaving on a tour bus. To clear why this happens often, the restaurant is the closest to Casa Mila Le Predera. Spanish eat and enjoy their meals. The food is prepared slowly, so for group tourists, they expect Macdonald's service. Anyway, we shared and tried Catalan Crema which is the equivalent to Creme Brûlée except for not using the vanilla stem. The flavor is more orange than vanilla. I'll post some pics to show. No crust on pan bottom, clams were put in too soon and cooked to death, etc. Flavor was okay, but the earth didn't move here in the home region of this dish. Have had better in CA.
