Their Sangria was really good, fruity and not too sweet. The seafood was great (cuttlefish and dorado were definitely the highlights). My nephew had a pizza and it was kind of sad. Paella! I had the Valencia and it was super flavorful. The rice is the star. Abundant seafood although small varieties of shrimp and clams. The seafood leaned towards being overcooked ( the shrimp shell stuck onto the flesh). However, it still left a flavor impression. My family and I ordered 3 portions of the Valencia paella (meat and seafood), the grilled vegetables, and pasta carbonara to-go and eat back at our Airbnb after a long day of traveling. We called ahead and they asked us to come in to the restaurant and order and come back after half an hour. The paella was legit, although there were quite a few meat bones. Ingredients tasted fresh. So glad we got 3 portions of the paella for 5 adults, because we couldn't finish everything even though it was delicious. Carbonara was surprisingly in the American style - very rich and creamy. We came across this place during our vacation in Barcelona on Christmas Day . We didn't have reservations but they took us in anyway (maybe they felt sorry for the lost American tourists, lol). They explained that because of the holiday, there was a set menu. That actually made ordering easier for us so we were game ! First of all, the place is beautiful! When the hostess walked us to the back of the restaurant, it felt like being in a family member's home. There were other large groups there, obviously close friends and family. It was so comforting and exactly what we wanted. We had some trouble understanding the waitress so she ordered our appetizers for us and gave us time to use google translate for the menu. Everything we had, including the wines were delicious! The dessert esp the creama de Catelan was out of this world! The staff and even the other customers were so sweet and kind. Came here with some friends as this place has a 40% off discount if you each order either a starter and main course or a main course and dessert. Drinks are understandably not part of the discount. We ordered three different paellas for the starters- Paella Valencia, Paella Arroz Negro, and Paella Marinera. The portions are pretty huge so these are good to share which we did. I definitely thought the Paella Arroz Negro had the best flavor and the garlic sauce on top mixed with the rice was delicious. I would absolutely suggest ordering that. The other two were alright but not as flavorful as I would have liked. For the main course, I ordered the lamb. Be warned- the portions are huge. The lamb was pretty good but not spectacular and the potatoes and veggies that came with it were a bit dry. Everyone agreed the Paella was better than their entrees so I would suggest maybe just sticking with that. We also got 2 desserts (since only 3 of us had gotten the Paella starter). The chocolate cake was super chocolatey and dense and alright, not my favorite even though I usually love things that have an intense chocolate flavor. I didn't try the crema Catalina but it seemed to be enjoyed by those who tried it. After the discount, the bill came out to around 25 euros for each of us which wasn't bad for 2 courses and wine. All in all, the food was alright but definitely not the best I ate in Barcelona overall (the Paella arroz negro was definitely really good though). Probably 3 and a half stars. read more

We looked all over Barcelona for a good restaurant with good paella. 4 days into our trip, we were in low spirits and just disappointed with the food here. We wondered how the restaurants here could have such terrible food despite having such fresh produce at the super market. Nogal was actually right by our apartment where we stayed. I read good reviews on yelp about it. This restaurant is definitely not 4/5. It's 5/5 for sure. Compared to the first day, when we fell into a tourist trap and ate at this place that served the worst paella possible, had the blades fried chicken wings and the weirdest chicken on skewers, plus a roach, this place has turned around our opinion of food here. We even went to a fancy restaurant at this place close to the piers and it cannot even be compared to Nogal. The ambience was perfect. Music was just right with some French songs which we enjoyed. They didn't rush us... we got there at 9:30pm and pretty much closed the restaurant. We left at 12:30am so happy and full. The portions were huge. The food was finally delicious. Our server, Sylvestre was amazing. He have us some tips about restaurants in Barcelona. Helped us celebrate our friend's birthday and even gave us a bottle of cava free and grilled peppers of charge. We even asked him if he would be here again if we come back the next night. Unfortunately he said no. But we'll be going back for the food again... last night here but no point trying other food because no place has been able to compare. read more

We found this restaurant when we finished our tour at Sagrada Familia. The place looks very authentic on google and yelp so we decided to give their seafood rice a try. We order the black ink rice and the traditional Spanish seafood rice. The menu was a little confusing because we thought that we had to make at least two orders of the same dish. The reality is that the dish was single order enough to feed two person. We double ordered the tradition Spanish rice so we ended up with a 5 people portion for the three of us. Nevertheless, the food was very good. The shrimp and squid were fresh, and the squid ink really stood out for us. also ordered two bottles of sparking water, and we finished both before the food arrive. The baking time was about 45 minutes so that can be improved if possible. read more

I respect all the negative ratings as it comes down to preference. However, the experience for my wife, our friend and myself was exceptional. The Paella Valenciana and Negra were some of the best food we had in Barcelona. I would order 2 paellas for 4 people as there is more than enough food. You can't go wrong with the Paella Negra. The owner was simply amazing and hospitable. He came out to greet us and speak to us about what we wanted to drink. He made my wife and our friend a pitcher of white wine sangria which they both loved. The server was amazing. She was attentive and came to our table frequently to serve us well. Had the squid ink paella, seafood paella and both were really good. The shrimp "scampi" appetizer was amazing. Sautéed shrimp in garlic, olive oil with bay leaves. Highly recommend. We tried the Paella, Onion soup, Escalopa de lomo, canelones rellenos, even the bolonegse spaghetti my kids ordered was so good!!! And the Sangria!! Excellent. Going back for the Paella con Sepia (black paella). Sunday is a full house over there. Coffee is really good (and I only drink very good coffee) Desserts are very traditional: crema catalana (very similar to creme brûlée ), cheese cake (nothing like the American version. This is lighter and I bet it contains gelatin. Terrific service by enthusiastic staff with excellent recommendations, the menu offers beautifully prepared and presented, flavorful Catalan style paella (with pasta) in addition to the more traditional version (over rice) with fresh & tender ingredients. I enjoyed the best caprese salad I've ever had (a feat having been in Italy for a week and having many!) and my friend's goat cheese salad was extraordinary (we were hard-pressed to decide which was better as both fell into "the best ever" category). Walking around directionless in Barcelona so we hopped to this place for a quick snack. I use "quick" very loosely given we ended up opting for the many course tapas meal for 19.50 euros per person. It ended up being rather great! The memorable courses included the patatas bravas (the best we had in Barcelona), egg and potato omelette cake, and Valencia style paella (was even better when we had the leftovers after some late night drinking). Went to Nogal for dinner because it was close to where I was staying. We arrived around 7 PM before Barcelona's rush dinner hour (8-9 PM), so there was only another table occupied. Service was kind of slow because there was only one person serving at the time. We ordered the seafood paella (I forget the name) and pepperoni pizza. Honestly, I loved it. I guess it was just my kinda thing, yknow, because my mother didn't. She thought it wasn't seasoned well enough. My boyfriend was already sick of rice by the time we arrived in Barcelona, so he had a mixed opinion on that. Pizza was good too, it wasn't very thick, though. When we're done with dinner, we ordered a liter of sangria vino. I liked it too, the alcohol wasn't strong (probably because it was red wine?). Well, I don't know much about alcohol so don't judge me pls. All in all, we enjoyed the dinner. Oh btw, there was a Chinese (I presume so because she spoke Mandarin) server, so we found it easy to communicate with her. -- I don't know if this is the same business, but this restaurant is connected to the cafe next to it, Nogal Cafe. I'm just gonna leave a review for that one here. Servers were lovely! None of them spoke English, though. There was a man that we assume was the owner because he gave orders and did so many things that only business owners would do. He brought a small blackboard with a selection of breakfasts (American, English, and Catalan). We all ordered American breakfast (two fried eggs, several pieces of bacon, toast, coffee, and orange juice). The man was reaally nice. He went all out to explain what's what. He brought a basket of oranges and made squeezing sound to explain that the juice was freshly squeezed. The next day, we came back and ordered sandwich. Though the sandwich itself wasn't the best sandwich I've ever had, he brought and showed us the 'raw' ingredients before making them to make sure we know what we're ordering. Every dish is just plain amazing here! We had the Ox tail stew, the paella with squid ink, the grill octopus, the razor clam. With a glass of red wine on the side, this is how a great vacation should felt like! The service here are very friendly and warm. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Zhang, one of the waitress who speaks Chinese to help m y fiancée and I order the seasonal specialties. Don't let the outside fool you, this place has some great food. We stumbled upon it on a recommendation from a local resident. The paella is delicious - we ordered the mixed paella and the paella negra. Both were good, but mixed paella was the better of the two. The paella with squid ink was good for the first few bites but the taste of the ink was overwhelming after that. The salads and tomato bread were good as well. The service was poor to just ok, our first server was efficient but not friendly or helpful and literally disappeared (never checking in) for 40 minutes. We flagged down another waiter in order to obtain water and later to obtain the check and pay the bill. If you are staying in the neighborhood, it is worth a visit.
