The hotel was built in the Spanish Colonial Revival-style of architecture and it opened in 1926 as the Alterep Hotel during Florida's wealthy land boom years. It's distinctive yellow color and history makes it one of the most recognizable buildings in Delray Beach. The are several little shops in this area of the building including Beach Paradise, a women's clothing store and a gift shop, Just Hearts. Salutations of Delray was started by Diana Bush in 2004 as a result of searching for invitations to purchase for her daughters upcoming wedding. They specialize in custom wedding invitations and announcements along with custom stationary and greeting cards. Other things they carry included linen towels with funny phrases, Pampa Bay tableware, Nora Fleming stoneware, Thymes Frasier Fir candles and diffusers, items that can be personalized, children's gifts. and party supplies. The store motto is "Everyday is an occasion...celebrate in style!" Writing a letter and personalized stationary seems to be a kind of lost art in the email world of today and I love that you can rediscover that here. They will also help you craft the perfect invitation or announcement and don't forget that there are so many unique and whimsical items for gifts or gifting yourself. I love a thrift store, but Quirky Natives belongs in a slightly different category. The store was founded by Heather Bisbee in 2025 as a way to give back to the community. Heather is a native Floridian with an eye for unique, quirky items that make great gifts or the perfect finishing touch for your home. Quirky Natives offers gently used items for sale, but they also carry brand-new items and artwork by local artists. Their inventory is varied, with clothing, accessories, toys, home goods, books, and art pieces available. I especially liked the vintage pieces and colorful jewelry. If you wish to donate items, a portion of the proceeds from each sale is donated to charity. According to their website, over $300 was donated last month to the Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope. After examining the inventory more carefully, it became easier to discern what was where. The selection of findings & beads is deep. It's nice to know a place to shop for jewelry making supplies that is head over heels above the big box craft stores. The bead selection includes a large, varied collection of glass beads, Czech glass beads, pottery beads, pearls, semi-precious stones & a whole lot more. I remembered all of the cool shops on Lake Ave and while walking around I discovered Trinkets & Treasures. This cute shop has a little bit of everything. They had some seasonal items for Halloween, a clothing section with colorful women's sun dresses and the most darling children's sweaters, jewelry, accessories, mugs, home decor, art, stationary, local honey, and a lot of unique items. I especially loved the llama pens and screen wipes that clip onto your key chains, so clever! You know you are in a great shop when you start picking up things for yourself. They have hats and accessories. honey and jams and jellies, windchimes, and hanging ornaments, key chains and eyeglass holders, pictures and wall hangings, etc. I wear pierced earrings and there were plenty of these, but just a note that there was an older lady shopping at the time we were there who was thrilled to see a large selection of clip-on earrings. They were snowbirds and stop by each year to buy gifts and she gets a new pair of earrings (or more) for herself. The shop owner is quite friendly and personable. If you have question or need any help finding something, don't be afraid to ask. She obviously enjoys her job and interacting with the public. Now I know where I'll be heading next time I'm in the area and need a unique gift.
