This bakery has been around since 1923, and it's easy to see why it's stood the test of time. I ordered two donuts: the original glazed and their signature Cyclops--a chocolate-glazed donut with a dollop of white buttercream nestled in the center where the hole would be. Both were just $1.25 each and absolutely hit the spot. The bakery also offers kringles, eclairs, donut twists, loaves of bread, cakes, and a small selection of drinks. It shares a parking lot with a strip center, so there's plenty of parking available. The staff were friendly and helpful, patiently answering all my questions about their donut offerings since it was my first time visiting. Who doesn't love the aroma of fresher baked bread and pastries? This place smells AMAZING walking through the doors. The entrance does is not automatic, almost learned that the hard way .. lol. But the exit is.... and it makes sense as in sure many customers leave with their hands full. We went in to purchase the text raisin bread as it really is the best around and only place we've found it. But of course we cannot leave without some goodies as well. The staff is kind and fast. Full of information and provides that with a smile. If you are in Kenosha and haven't stopped in or just traveling through and looking for a hometown staple bakery, this is the place to visit. read more

Just outstanding! The fresh baked Italian- I can't even ever choose which to buy- personal paisano or crusty hard rolls with sesame seeds... or a round loaf... or...hell, just give me one of everything. The donuts are top notch- from custard filled long John's (bc why eat a long John w/out custard ?) to the ever famous cyclops... Bismarck filled with jelly, or the pecan cinn roll, twists, prune roll, even the Kringle OR (can't leave without this) custard pecan stick. My absolute fav. You act have to visit daily just to try one of everything fresh as can be. read more

The hotel staff recommended I try a "Cyclop," a local Kenosha tradition. Paielli's, the well-known Italian bakery, is famous for it--so of course I had to get one. You can smell the sweet aroma as soon as you stepped inside. There are a few small tables to eat your treats! The cyclop is essentially a chocolate-glazed donut filled with buttercream in the center. At just $1.25, it's quite affordable. It was a bit too sweet for my taste, but hey, it's a donut! I'm proud of myself to only get 1 item :) read more

I'll start by saying I love the Italian bread. The taste, the crunch when toasted.... but I've had several loaves recently with small pieces of plastic that get stuck in my teeth like a hard gummy bear. Not sure if it's a quality control issue or pieces from the equipment used. Not sure if it's a health hazard. Choking hazard for kids, maybe? Not pleasant. It happened a while ago with several loaves that I found multiple pieces...this last loaf, only one. During the time in between, I thought maybe it had resolved itself. Fool me once, you say? Why keep buying it, you fool? Again the crunch is like no other, taste great with just a few pieces of plastic.... Not sure what the next step should be. Any ideas? read more

I grew up 5 blocks from Paielli's. My parents sent me there 65 + years ago on the weekend for a dozen donuts. Cost was $0.60. When a dozen went up to $0.72 they were still worth it. And today when we come back to visit, whatever the cost they are worth it. Kenosha had bakeries all over town. Lots of good bakery products and bread could be had wherever you lived. Not today. You've got 3 that I'll shop at when we visit - Paielli's is a must stop. Always buy cyclops and sliced Italian bread to take home. And other pastry. Chocolate eclairs usually don't make it home. Unless we buy 6 or more. Good job Paielli's. read more

A Kenosha landmark for a reason. Their Italian bread and pizza dough are the best. Their sweet rolls are sinful - namely their Cyclops. Their brownies and Italian cookies are also delicious, and I've never had a bad cake/cupcake from them either. Since they are so popular, weekends can be pretty busy. Saturday mornings usually entail a long line wrapping around the entire store. However if you aren't in a hurry, I can promise that it's worth the wait. Kenosha is known for having excellent food all around, and Paiellis is unquestionably at the top of that list. read more

The people are SO sweet. Really lovely customer service. And locals LOVE this place. Like if you speak negatively about it to someone from Kenosha they will verbally assault you. I mean it's been open for 100 years. And maybe even 30 years ago even it was a quality product but now... The products are meh. The ingredients are such a disappointment. They sell bread, donuts, cookies. The bread is not crusty on the outside and soft on the inside like italian bread should be. It's just bread. So we can call this "midwest italian". You can get a better loaf of fresh Italian bread with fewer ingredients at fresh thyme. You can get better fresher donuts at pick n save. Two of the four donuts i had at 11am were not soft they were already a little stale. So yes people are loyal to this place like you wouldn't believe and locals will keep it running forever. But this is not a must see place. Especially if you're expecting a real italian bakery or real food ingredients... read more

We ordered a fresh birthday cake and when we tried to get it out of the box it slipped off the bottom; not only that, it was dry and crumbled!!! Nothing moist about it. It was old. Not recommended for birthday cakes. read more

I had shortlisted this place as a pitstop for our Kenosha trip. Paelli's is not exactly Instagram-hip, nor does it try to be. It's a traditional bakery with breads, cakes, and various pastries. I came for the donuts. I am the Donut Hunter, after all. I confirmed they use vegetable oil for frying, in case that's a concern for you. We got a cyclops donut, a custard-filled long john, and a pastry with chocolate filling. It was only $3 for the haul. I was really hoping the cyclops had cream filling, as I'm a sucker for cream-filled donuts. Alas, it was not. The cream is only on top. However, it was very good. Hadn't been to this bakery since I was a kid decades ago. And it was just how I remembered it. Fresh and plentiful with baked goods throughout. They have evolved into many varieties of breads, pizza dough and baked goods. I opted for the traditional biscotti and famous tricolor cookies both anise flavored and always a hit. I wish they would branch out though and make a few other Italian cookies and not just butter. read more

I went to Paielli's bakery and bought two nice T-shirts with writing on the front and the back at a very good price and very decent shirts. I was very impressed. It only cost $24 as opposed to going to a T-shirt place where I bought my own T-shirts and it cost me $43. I learned my lesson. My absolute favorite Italian bread (be it bread or sandwich rolls) anywhere!!!! So soft with a chewy crust, LOVE it!!! And the anise cookies that are colored to correspond with whatever the nearest holiday is just can't be beat. Although the staff could be more friendly, they were fairly friendly to me but not as much to a couple that walked in (they happened to be Hispanic) I could tell that they were very uncomfortable. Paielli's has the best tiramisu I've ever had outside of Boston. The people who work there always make nice conversation (as the Midwestern rule book dictates I suppose) and their donuts are fresh. Any place that you enter smelling donuts and walk out smelling like a donut is a good place in my book. What a little gem! Since moving to Kenosha from Chicago, I've been on the hunt for a good donut. Look no further - I found the cyclops donut. Honestly, so much delicious I can barely keep from drooling while I type about it. Located in a cute little spot with a parking lot makes it easier to load 2-3 dozen of those bad boys when you host a party. We ended up with some fresh kaiser rolls for our steak burgers that night too. Friendly service and serving smiles (and all things delicious) since 1923. I usually purchase my Paielli's breads at my local supermarket, but for doughnuts and sweet rolls you have to go to the bakery itself. Disclaimer: Paielli's was my first job as a teenager, growing up in Kenosha. Before working at Paielli's Bakery, my family and I were regulars. We went to the bakery every Sunday morning after church for doughnuts and a loaf of bread. Paielli's has the best doughnuts I've ever had. The yeast doughnuts are light, fluffy, flavorful, and sweet. Try the cyclops (a chocolate-frosted doughnut with a generous dab of butter cream on the top) or the chocolate pershing (a cinnamon swirl doughnut covered with chocolate) or their caramel-pecan rolls or custard-filled long johns. Arrive early on Saturday and Sunday to get the best pick of their many varieties of doughnuts. I live in Milwaukee now and cannot find doughnuts (also, I haven't found them in other cities) that compare with theirs. If you live in Milwaukee, a drive to Kenosha to visit the bakery would be a worthwhile trip. Paielli's also makes a vast array of Italian butter cookies. The cookies are homemade and perfect for the holidays, large parties, or weddings. In addition to their butter cookies, they are also always stocked in the Italian cookies, gennetis and biscottis. Gennetis are an anise-based cookie that is softer, but firmer than a cake-like cookie. Biscottis are the traditional Italian, anise toast cookie perfect for dunking in coffee or espresso. Their bread is also very good. On Saturdays, they offer a variety of hard crust rolls, from sesame to poppy to rye. Their bread is soft with a hard crust and flavorful. It's paramount as far as American-Italian bread, and is great with a sandwich or plain with butter. This bread is special. You cannot find Italian bread like this in grocery stores or in most bakeries. Paielli's is an institution in Kenosha. It has been in business for over 75 years, and the family is still an integral part of the bakery. It is a tight-knit community of people and family that offers a wonderful, historical product to the community. I will say with confidence that their baked goods are some of the best in Wisconsin.
