They were busy during our Sunday morning visit. Friendly service with a diverse menu of hot/cold coffee drinks, various pastries, and some hot Mexican plates and tacos. The "I Don't Want to Taste Coffee" was excellent. Food wise my bacon-egg-potato-cheese taco & my chorizo-egg-potato-cheese tacos were A-ok. My wife thought her warmed cheese danish was meh. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.0 due to fun vibe and friendly service.

This place is adorable! The decor here is every college girl's dream. Such a cute place to study. I got a large iced latte with coconut milk for $8. I added tons of cinnamon powder on it as well. It was PERFECT. Staff is kind and made my morning pleasant.

Adorable place. Coffee was smooth, not overly bitter nor overly sweet. Had the NB Queen iced and the Mexican Mocha hot, both with oatmilk, both good. The Mexican mocha had the more distinct flavor between the two. Also glad they offered gluten-free treat options. The cinnamon muffin was delicious.

Note time of order and time of screenshot, when I got an americano.

I've been to Paint Rock twice now for coffee and to get a little work done. It's a great place to spend a couple of hours on your laptop, as I've never had a problem finding seating, including today at 10am. The first americano I had here was not good--it was so watered down that I can't comment on the taste of the espresso. The second time I asked and discovered that oddly, they only include one shot of espresso in their 16oz iced drinks, which is outside of the norm for that size (I've never encountered this in the five cities I've lived in and national brands all include two [e.g., Starbucks includes 2 for 16oz]). As a result, unless you add an additional $1.75 shot of espresso, the drinks are not good as ordered. Quality aside, the biggest disappointment is the time it takes to get your drink. At 10am on a Sunday, there was one person in front of me and there was ample space to work (tables and bar seating open). I checked the time it took from ordering (got a rewards text at 10:13am), and I sat down with my americano at 10:30am exactly (checked my phone because it took so long and took a screenshot). 17min for an unfussy drink is not acceptable for any coffee shop. So, it's a fine place to work if you just need table space, but for a coffee, unfortunately I can't recommend. There are much higher quality and well-run options (very) nearby.

The coffee was a bit sweet and the over ambience was nice. However, the service was lacking. The barista was not very welcoming and me, and my daughter both noticed that her attitude seemed off otherwise the place could be enjoyable.

Super cute place! Baristas was friendly and helpful! Parked on the side street without any issues. Big enough you can have privacy with your conversations. Will be back!

We got the Mexican Mocha and the Hang Loose. A quiet spot on a Saturday morning, super cute decor, friendly staff, and good drinks! If you've got time, grab a seat in the hanging floral egg chairs or the adirondacks outside!

Great coffee! Not just that, teas & smoothies as well. Respectable selection of breakfast options from breakfast tacos to pastries to chicken fried steak. Ambiance, this place has it! Unique for a coffee bar. Staff is friendly and attentive.

Cute lil coffee shop AND a full Mexican breakfast? Oh yes. Great location, too, being close to Tech's campus.

Cute place. Great coffee and worth the drive from highway. I wish we had time to sit outside. Looks like a great place for people watching.

He-Brews was the first local coffee shop I ever went to in Lubbock. During my freshman year, my…read morefriend was visiting Tech, and I went with him, my sister, and my at-the-time girlfriend who was visiting with them. I liked how secluded He-Brews was from the rest of Lubbock, right in the heart of prairie dog town. It's hard to get distracted from studying if the only thing around you is dirt. I've been to He-Brews a handful of times since then, having nice conversations with a friend over coffee, getting some studying in when I needed a change of scenery, or last week when I decided to revisit He-Brews while in town. I think the space is cute and cozy. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. This time I ordered their Lavender Haze, a lavender and honey macchiato. I thought it was a little too milky compared to the espresso, and it lacked much nuance. It was fine and I finished it, but it really wasn't special. They also have a Christian radio station, KWBF, under the same roof. I have never once seen the station's broadcasters inside the studio while I'm in there, but it is cool to have it in one place. Because of this, you may hear Christian Contemporary Music playing inside He-Brews, which I don't think is inherently wrong, but it is maybe the worst non-secular music to exist, so be prepared with headphones to hear literally anything else. If the macchiato you order is inspiring you to go deeper in your faith, I'd recommend checking out Numero's Good God! Apocryphal Hymns for some much needed fellowship that actually has something to say past the three minute mark. I am not really sure why He-Brews needs to be so strongly associated with its religious method. Nothing about coffee is inherently Christian, but a lot of people deep in faith love to open a cafe. I really don't think opening a coffee shop as a Christian is even a bad thing. I think providing a place of comfort is a great mission to have as a follower of Christ. It's just that they don't advertise any fellowship or promote any charitable concepts. Instead, they have a WiFi password of John 3:16 and say they are inspiring growth. I want to buy it. I want to believe in it, but it all feels surface level. As I left, I noticed the massive load of campaign yard signs outside their building. Nothing says following Jesus Christ quite like endorsing candidates. It's like they realized how good a pun of He-Brews would be and everything else is just trying to make the name work. Maybe that's just me though. RIYL: God's favorite latte

The staff was friendly and moved quickly even with a line on Friday morning. Prairie dog mounds exist on two sides of the building, so it's fun to see them. They are shy, so don't walk to them, but bring and throw some baby carrots out for them! The outdoor patio is huge with a beautiful view of the water and greenery. Parking is all dirt and gravel. If you need a drink to-go, make sure you tell them when ordering because they serve drinks in cute, non-disposable latte cups. I only gave 4 stars because the latte was delicious, but not sure it was the strongest. The He-Brews signature latte is delicious!

Lots of steamed dairy flavor. It's more expensive compared to other coffee shops near by and not nearly as good. It is a huge space though. Not a bad place to do work but the seats aren't the comfiest and outlets are a bit sparse.

When I first started school at Texas Tech, I was looking for a good coffee shop to study and spend…read moremy time at. For a while, whenever I asked for recommendations, I was always told J&B Coffee. I went there for the first time in 2022 believing they would be the coffee that saved me and truly show me what West Texas coffee roasters and brewers have to offer. Oh buddy, I was wrong. I want to start by saying the atmosphere of J&B is incredible. Inside feels like a time capsule to the early 2000s coffee craze with their beverage menu written on a chalkboard, the brick and wood decor, the massive windows bringing natural light into the building, and the space being large and welcoming. There are a few areas to choose from at J&B which include the busy and social front space, the back room for focus and quiet, the upstairs conference room for group meetings, and the outdoor wrap around seating that is typically shaded for a nice afternoon chat. The staff is always very friendly especially with how slammed J&B seems to be on a frequent basis with a line usually reaching the door. Their aesthetic is extremely welcoming. It is like a mistrusting hug. A false sense of comfort before you actually get your beverages. Regardless of getting an espresso based beverage hot or iced, I think it is the worst coffee in Lubbock. I have gotten grounds in my coffee, burnt beans, and straight up unfinishable beverages from J&B, and it is disappointing every time. Last time I went, I tried the Sopapilla Latte which was their September Cause Drink featuring horchata powder, honey, and cinnamon, and it just did not do it for me again. My girlfriend and I went back to see if anything had improved, but our verdict remained the same which was not good. I was an officer in an organization at Tech and during our meetings one officer always suggested J&B. We would go biweekly and their beverages became so unbearable to me that I started exclusively ordering London Fogs to avoid espresso. They started recognizing me for ordering London Fogs frequently. Their pastries are usually pretty good. I have had banana nut bread and blueberry muffins from there that are excellent. They also have a kitchen where they serve sandwiches and other items that people seem to enjoy. I have not tried a meal there. My girlfriend told me she had to stop going to J&B because the smell was so putrid to her. She described it as a coffee smell that was not aromatic and warm but comparable to a coffee left on the counter with creamer in it until it reaches its lukewarm state of tragic existence. You could leave J&B in the evening and sometimes the glorious smell of cow dookie blowing in the wind like Bob Dylan would be comparable to being inside. It is like visiting that one buddy who swears he is not addicted to the broccoli and you throw your clothes in the washer and pray the smell leaves your cotton tees. I do like that they are open pretty late compared to the other heavy hitters in Lubbock. I was working on my graduate thesis and needed to get out of the house after many hours at the library, so I opted for J&B. It worked for that experience, but I ordered a tea. Another plus is their massive cork bulletin board which makes J&B a perfect hub for finding events in the community, clubs and organizations for the hoards of college kids stepping inside every week, and more like piano lessons or people needing someone to join a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. They also host a lot of events from live music to trivia and comedy shows which is also pretty awesome. After this last visit, I finished my latte and found remaining grounds in my coffee. It was disappointing because their space deserves love for being a perfect hub of productivity, but they do not have the product to back it up. A lot of people I know do not go to J&B as their personal choice. Someone else always suggests it for a group project or meeting, and then you find out they only come for the J&B Arnold Palmer which leaves you choosing between the most mediocre espresso drink of your life. A triple bogey. I want to love J&B more, I really do, but it continues to haunt the residents of Lubbock and the students of Texas Tech. It welcomes you with a beautiful atmosphere then reveals itself to be a heel with its evil all along coffee. A wolf in sheep's clothing. A wolf in an apron, maybe? RIYL: Torturing your partners in a group project but loving a good atmosphere.
