My family and I have been playing paintball on a monthly basis here for over 2 years and cannot praise them enough. Mike and April are awesome, the refs are cool and the players we've met have been great. Their prices are unmatched for monthly memberships and paintballs but you can bring your own equipment and paint. We travel all the way from LA to get our fill and have no complaints. PaintBall Is real real fun. Took me and my girl here, with 4 other friends , and we kicked each other's asses lol. My first time coming outdoors to play. Usually I go to venues near home, and play against my brother. Doesn't cost much to play. So we all had fun shooting paint on each other. You learn a lot here from strangers and others. I realize that these people tell hundreds of guests the same exact thing over and over again, which would get monotonous...but they are patient and tell it fresh every time. The big guy at the top of the hill for private parties scares the crap out people, but he just has a very dry witty, sarcastic kind of guy. Pretty funny, if you ask me. Heads up, if you have TMobile, you won't have any service here, but apparently one of my friend that has AT&T was able to have service. I came with a large group of friends and we had a Groupon where we each would have to pay $25 to have the vest, gun, and the ammo. They also have jump suits that you can rent for an additional $10 if you don't want to ruin the clothes that you have (I opted in for that option, but it does get hot in there). The ammo is 500 balls, and if you run out, you can buy another bag for $20 each or you could buy a whole box and get a deal. The only thing that I would have to say that it would have been more fun if they split the children and the adults because some of the kids would just go shooting all willy nilly and ask if you have more ammo, and you feel bad if you shoot a kid. ~~Parking: They have a fairly large parking lot out front, but it can get pretty packed based on the time that you come. ~~Best Part: It's an awesome experience and would definitely do it again! ~~Tips: Sometimes there's a Groupon deal for a discount. Paintball USA (formerly Close Encounters) has come a long way. When I first started, we were playing the 1-Field Close Encounters years ago off the 14 and 5 freeway off the Old Road. Now the owner, Mike (He's awesome btw), owns Paintball USA that bolsters I think 12 fields (8 fields up top on the hill and 4 tournament ball fields down below). Mike and his staff from the manager with the bull horn to their young refs all made our private group (28 players in all) outing enjoyable. The staff, even though they were young, were knowledgeable, professional and knew how to run the games and fields. Even though they were busy running the public and private groups, they still took the time to come up and check on us if we needed anything. The in between games were a bit slow and I would only suggest Paintball USA to hire a couple more refs for busy days. The prices are mid-range and a paintball outing isn't something cheap. Maybe a lower fee for self-equiped players. Fields are in great condition, plenty of parking up top, they have a small hot dog/burger cart for lunch. Our private group will definitely be back again for another outing. Keep up the good work and professional staffing. Mike even drives around on his ATV to check up on the different customers, just like a good owner would do. read more

We have had three of our end-of-season team parties with Paintball USA and it is always a good time. Mike and April are very accommodating and very kind people and they run such an awesome place to have fun! Even with a busy Sunday this time, our team spent a lot of time playing. The courses and fields in which you play are a lot of fun, plenty of places for cover and reloading and lots of good space to run rampant! Really great fun for my son's 13th birthday. We went last weekend with a group of 11 players. Leading up to the reservation, April was very helpful, patient and quick to respond to emails. When we showed up, we were grateful to find that we had a whole section of covered picnic tables for us to hang out at between rounds. And they told me to pull my car right up to the area. I was glad I brought an ice chest and wished I brought even more stuff since we had the reserved area. But sure enough, there was a pizza place in Acton that delivered pizza to us, so it was pretty cool. The staff that explained the rules and organized the rounds was very friendly and they had the cycles of games organized pretty well. If I could change one thing, I would up the minimum age from 6 years old to maybe 9 or 10. The little guys we played didn't follow the rules as well and caused the most damage. BAIT AND SWITCH! Do NOT buy a groupon from this company. Horrible experience. Even though they wrote "no outside weapons allowed", one of the kids showed up with their own equipment, which they were willing to not use, so that we could use the groupon, but they INSTANTLY VOIDED the groupon because of this, and charged all 6 of us the ENTRANCE FEE which was supposed to be "free". After arguing EXCESSIVELY and being RUDE to my husband, they "offered a discount", which was UNACCEPTABLE. My husband didn't want to disappoint the kids so they went through with it, and all throughout the games, the people behind the counter were EXTREMELY RUDE, and acted like they were doing us a favor. They seriously need to learn how to act and speak to clients. We have been to other paintballs in Santa Clarita where they were MUCH MORE professional. I wrote them an email the following day, and they responded with this sentence: I also sent you an email explaining all of the details about the groupon offer. The email that I sent you is below and clearly states how we accept the groupon offer. Below is a link to the groupon offer per groupon.com where it clearly states "No outside guns or paintballs are allowed" YES - CORRECT ----- and in the EMAIL she sent me (AFTER WE PURCHASED THE GROUPON) said that if you bring equipment the GROUPON IS VOIDED. WHY DOESN'T IT SAY THAT IN THE FINE PRINT ON THE GROUPON???????? Plus the fact that the kid was willing to give up the equipment but at that point they didn't care. So basically, bait and switch. I then sent an email back saying how everyone was rude and had an attitude and she didn't bother responding. we will NEVER EVER come back here and we told all our friends to do the same. We send a group of 50 people each summer and every summer the kids say it's the most fun trip they have. When the kids were not paint-balling they had other activities. April has helped me for years with booking and even dealing with a few issues like left behind items. We will continue coming here every summer and highly recommend them to others. read more

I went here with 5 friends on Sunday.... 3 of my buddies buy some expensive guns and gear because they play often. They had some cool guns for the rest of us who didn't have our own gear to use. However, one of the guns (tippman98) looked similar to those that are used their as rentals except it had been modified... paint, macrol line, handle.... LONG STORY-short... my buddy goes to refill the air tank... Jason, who seemed to be really friendly when we first showed up... starts asking him questions about the gun. My friend tells Jason he'll go the owner to answer the questions since it's not his. Jason then proceeded to interrogate my buddy about his gun.... essentially accusing him of stealing one of their rentals, modifying it, and then bringing it back to use there. HOW STUPID ARE THESE GUYS!!! Now, first of all, I could understand asking questions about a gun that looks REALLY similar to those used as rentals, with a serial # that was similar to the rentals. But with nothing to hide my friend answered his questions, Jason then tells us that they ENGRAVE THEIR GUNS to mark them. MY FRIENDS GUN DID NOT HAVE THEIR ENGRAVING. Jason's words, "well we can't prove it and it doesn't have the engraving; so... well thanks guys, sorry about that, but your good to go." Knowing rentals have a special engraving, and then clearly seeing my buddy's gun didn't have their engraving... that should've been the end of it. SHOULD HAVE being the key words as it WAS NOT THE END OF IT. Again, we could understand where they were coming from THE FIRST TIME..... yea we understand you had to interrogate some grown men, whom are into their 30's, self-equipped with $800-$1000 guns plus accessories.... because one of them had a very popular and common gun that resembled yours and did NOT have your special engraving? IMO... NO THEY DIDN'T... but we were good sports about it and went and played another two matches before the day was closing and most people were gone.... there were only 8 of us TOTAL in the last game. At our table, un-gearing and packing up, Jason walks up to my buddy and says, "hey, can you grab THAT gun and come take a walk with me" ... WTF!!! My buddy was a better sport then me because I was ready to give them a piece of my mind, however, my buddy accommodates them. grabs his gun and walks over to the check in station.... i wait 10 minutes and then I've had enough, I need to know what's going on because this doesn't feel right. I catch the tail end of the conversation where the Owner, MIKE, flat out is asking for $45 ..... and the words he used at the very end were, "well, we'll call it even." WE WERE PAYING CUSTOMERS THAT WERE HARRASED TWICE, ACCUSED OF STEALING TWICE, THEN TRIED TO BE SWINDLED OUT OF EXTRA MONEY...... But THEY WILL CALL IT EVEN?? I sure don't! The day finally came and we all arrived ready to shoot some balls... paintballs that is. Everything from check-in to the pick up of gear, to the field was all outdoors and at 8:00 a.m. in Santa Clairta, it was already hot. After checking in we were directed to several tables to pick up gear. What gear do you use? Coveralls, gloves, head protection, guns and balls. Note, there are extra charges for certain items, so make sure you check their website for further details. Everything was so disorganized feeling like the Three Stooges, BroTha, SisTa and I were going in circles. Enough is enough, already. Where's the chief?!?!? I was escorted to Mike. I introduced myself and asked his name, I told him I was a Yelper and I wanted to include his name in my review. Ooops!!! That might have been a mistake, because once I said that he yelled at everyone and told them to give us top notch service. I certainly didn't mean for that to happen. Yes, I was still a green Yelper at the time. I have since learned my lesson on that one. We were instructed to wait under one of tarps at the picnic tables. People were coming and going, going and coming. I finally decided enough was enough. I went over to Mike for direction. He kindly took us over to a group of fellow ballers where they were getting the skinny on how play time worked. And then we were off. Starting on "the kiddie" grounds in a game of capture the flag, every man and woman were on their own. Two games there, then on to the upper playground, with the big kids. There were all kinds of obstacles to hit behind, as well as shoot. Done there off to yet another playground. Lessons Learned: 1. Don't pull the Yelp card out except in extreme emergencies. 2. Paintball with friends, this every man/woman for themselves was ridiculous 3. If you want to play for long periods hide and shoot wisely. I'm going to say this place was ok. Sure, it was disorganized from beginning to end, and sure instructions weren't clear, but I was with BroTha and SisTa doing what we enjoy doing, being together and Paintball USA provided a venue that we could all be together while doing something active. read more

I took 22 ten year old boys plus a few parents this weekend. We had a great time, brought in food, drinks, pizza and cake. They had a covered area set up for our party, plus reserved parking near our tables for two car. The boys had a great time, the staff was kind and patent with a bunch of excited kids. Getting our reservation set up was also easy, April was responsive and helpful. Her and her husband are the owner - and allowed us to stay late because we got a later start than expected - great time and an amazing way to spend a 10th birthday. The equipment and battle grounds were each fun and different. The refs did great with the kids, everyone was safe and had fun. Strongly recommend. Side note - If you're bringing kids, make sure you have enough adults, getting little people suited up takes a long time and is harder than I would have guessed. read more

I appreciate management that address complaints from customers so I added a new star. And I'm grateful that the 'pro' players were dealt with ... But unfortunately it was too little too late. We had already chosen to leave and had to spend all of our money on a 'cheated day'. And the referee never was dealt with either, he should have handled things better :/ If we didn't have to spend so much, I would let it go. But it's our hard earned money and half of our Sunday off that was wasted by getting shot at by pro players with special guns and not leaving the field when shot at. One game I was the last man and I got swarmed by 10+ players. Sounds uneven - and that was round 2 of the first match. Never did the referee balance the teams :( read more

The 19 of us shared a groupon deal ($18) and was able to play as a private party for a full day with gun rental, mask rental, all day air and 200 rounds included. We went on one of the hottest weekend (117F) and were all melting under the blazing sun. It was a lot of fun despite almost having a heatstroke though! After we signed the waiver and gathered our gears, we drove up the hill to another set of fields. The fields up were larger and seemed to be more physical demanding. A lot of crawling and bending was involved. We played around 9 games total on 4-5 different fields. My favorite was the one with the abandoned school bus and barrels! We bought sandwiches for lunch and many packs of water and gatorade to stay hydrated. They had ice cold water available on site as well. Tents were set up so we would rest under the shade in between our games. The guys here were very nice and informative and made sure we had fun and stayed safe. read more

My first time paint balling and I had a great time! A private party welcomed us when we accidentally joined their group. A few guys got a little too serious during one game and the refs calmed 'em down and got things moving again quickly. And instead of selling water like I expected they would, they had coolers and cups set up in a variety of areas. The place is huge. We came as a group of 17, some of us with pre-purchased passes, others with a $4 groupon that covered entrance, mask, air tank, & gun...with the stipulation that each person had to spend a minimum of $25 for 500 balls. Not bad. We ended up getting an additional box of 2000. The staff was more than helpful...despite being a party of 17 and coming in without a reservation. They were nice enough to consider us a private party, which gave us private access to different fields. The referees were super cool too. Often waiting on us while we ate/took a bathroom break/etc. We mostly spent our time on the fields high above. Great fields, but the trenches one was a killer! Don't do that one on a super hot day, fyi. Had a great experience. Will definitely be back. read more

They moved locations since the last time I was there and the maps weren't the best even though they never were. The workers were playing with us and shredding little kids. I play recreationally and I found it very annoying that the workers were wiping paint very often and the refs weren't calling anything. The old location had a large amount of very large fields that were in to play on. There are now only 4 very small fields to play on now. The refs are very poorly trained overall and make the game hard to play because of people constantly cheating. This is only a side note that made it horrible but the biggest game we had was about 12-15 people on small maps so it's not bad but by about 11:00 everyone left and it was very boring to just play against 2 or 3 people for the remainder of the day for such a high price. This can change day to day so I don't really call this a problem on the place more than a problem with their advertising... Personally the only reason I'm giving it two stars is because I felt they kept safety up and most of the staff was nice. Be aware that you can bring your own paint even though the website says you can't. read more

5 of my friends decided to have my bachelor's party at paintball USA, initial cost for 5 people over 18 $250. The 500 paintballs you get lasted us about 3 rounds playing very conservative. After about an hour we went to grab lunch and cash to buy more paintballs to continue playing. We got to our car and someone had smashed thru the window and stolen wallets, phones and anything else you can think of. Come to find out this happened few weeks ago. After we told the managers on site there was no care or even compassion. One of the guys even said yea I was suppose to be down here watching but I was up at the fields talking to someone. Like are you serious? Aside from that the place was overpriced and the equipment is a complete joke. Go anywhere else if you can, I hear there are some good ones in castaic. read more

This place is amazing. Granted is a drive away since I live in downtown Long Beach. They have a lot of great and engaging staff. As soon as you arrive, you are directed as to where to sign up, where to sign the waivers, pay, pick up your gun, amo and mask. Then, they divide you into groups according to your experience level and they have rounds every 30 minutes or so. They also have different fields. This is a great experience for small groups, solos and large groups. Just make sure you wear old cloths that you don't mind getting paint on and be ready to have fun. I wasn't too thrilled when I took my teenager and his friend, but by the end of the first round, I was a fan. Keep your eyes open for Groupon. I was able to get 6 passes at $20.00 each one. We had a blast here. Upsides: Lots of different courses you can do, lots of fun shooting your friends when you have a big group, great deal with the groupon, not as painful as I thought it would be. Downsides: In the middle of nowhere, totally unorganized for getting things started when you get there, you need 15 people to have a private party and they are very strict on this (we had 14 and we had to buy an extra ticket for an invisible person), refs for the games do not really watch, so people cheat. Overall we had a great time and if we were able to get a group of our friends to go, we would go again. read more

The good- This place is a TON of fun. We go once a year for my birthday and always have a blast. (Im 29 and Only do this once a year.) Seriously, it's super fun. They also have a pizza joint that can deliver you pizza. The bad- If you get a living social or groupon deal it's very reasonable BUT be aware--- they just changed the groupon/living social deals to be for the smaller caliber of paintballs. You have to pay an extra $10 on the field to upgrade. Been going there for 4 years, 1st time I've experience this. The courses are cool but they haven't changed in forever. Seriously, it wouldn't be that hard to change things up out there ever few years to encourage people to come back for something new. Also, they have one course called "Bagdad" which is essentially a bunch of different equipment, old cars, and some wood structures. It's very cool, but completely unmaintained. With a little bit of work they could make it a lot safer. There are nails, and rebar sticking out in places. I'm a very aggressive player and I don't want to have to worry about impaling myself. :| read more

Just spent the day at Paintball USA with 11 of my friends. Had an awesome time. Most of us had never been pain balling before and it was on the bucket list. They offered a Groupon so we took full advantage. We had an awesome time!! If you're scared (like I was) don't be...the balls don't hurt as bad as you might think. I actually didn't know I was shot (in the back, go figure) I did feel the one on my arm though!! The thrill outweighs the slight pain so grab your friends and take a trip out to Paintball USA. Staff is SUPER friendly and patient with the first timers. Everyone who works there seems to love their job. There are some folks who go there who are VERY into this stuff but don't let them intimidate you. A lot of cops and military people do this. We were paired up against teenagers and other first timers so there's a crowd for all here. Not sure if paintball is my thing but I'll definitely be down to going back. read more
