Went today for lunch right when they opened bc it was my mom's birthday. They are having their floors redone in the main dining room so we were seated in the side dining room, which was perfectly fine. Our server Trevor was great. He dealt with our chaos plus he was hustling every table there. He had to go outside to go around to the second bar to get the drinks bc of the floor situation. He worked hard today! Either way, we always enjoy this place and even with the floor being redone they still were able to find a workaround! read more

An artists dream Resturant! This Resturant was full of so much beautiful and unique artwork, that I got up to walk around a few times! The food was absolutely delicious!!!!! My favorite was the hummus and homemade peta chips!! I've never had one better at any other Resturant! The drinks and service were also great! One of my favorite little touches was the crayons! Anniversary dinner out East at a place I really used to underestimate. But ever since a brunch I had here long ago, I knew I was wrong about this place. Since then, we have come here for holidays and special(ish) occasions. This time around it was our anniversary. Painters was taking part in restaurant week and I knew we would get the most bang for our buck here. The portions are usually ginormous. Restaurant week is always so fun. You get a chance to try places you wouldn't normally try without breaking the bank. Dinner was $46 a person and it was 3 courses. I got the autumn frisée salad to start and the chicken roulade for my main. The salad was fire! The champagne vinaigrette was on point. My server recommended the right thing for my next course because I almost went with the filet mignon AND shrimp. Two bites into the main event and I was starting to get full. It was super delicious though and I would totally get it again. I really liked the carrot puree that was served with it. Maybe just a dash of salt but it really was top notch. My pumpkin cheesecake finished things off. They make it in house and it was light and not too sweet. I would have taken another slice home with me if I wasn't sweating from being full. The place itself is fun. With paper tablecloths and a set of crayons for each table for your inner artist. They were also decked out for Halloween and they did a fabulous job. From the scary crypt creature out front to the spider webs inside, it was fun to see. read more

Great vibe, cool Atmosphere , very good service but good is hit or miss. I've been here several times so my review has experience. The oysters were the best, peconic bay freshly shucked and a special for the night. I ordered fluke sandwich that was soggy, tasteless and on a stale bun. My girl ordered fish tacos, little better , but loaded with too much toppings without the fish. Service is always good, and I do like the vibe . Good music lots of sports on tv happening bar area. Finally tried out painters after so many people recommended the place. We went for brunch since we were seeing an early show at the Gateway Playhouse. I now see why they're called painters, love the decor inside. So much artwork. The tables are covered with paper that you can color and they also have crayons for you. The pomegranate mule was delicious! Had to get two! My huevos rancheros were delicious! We will definitely be back for dinner soon. Loved that I didn't have to wait for a table on a late Saturday morning. read more

Everything about our experience at Painter's was 'just ok'. We sat for a long time before meeting our server - not long enough to consider leaving but more than long enough to be quite noticeable. We ordered apps and figured we would see how it went before going for entrees. We got the bar pretzel and asked for nachos with shredded chicken. The pretzel was very good - fresh, warm and tasty. The nachos were another story. It was supposed to be 'shredded chicken' - instead it was large chunks of chicken that were very dry and unseasoned. The nachos were lacking cheese and poorly mixed. We honestly should have sent them back, but it felt rude considering that they were not 'bad' -- they were the barest minimum of 'ok'. The portion was also tremendous. We ate enough of them that we decided not to go for more food. Message to Painter's. If you're selling shredded chicken, then deliver shredded chicken - not some throw away dried out chicken chunks. You can easily get away with smaller nacho portions - focus on quality. read more

My husband and I stopped in Bellport to check out Main Street on a cold February day. Due to the fact that it's Winter, many restaurants in town didn't open till 4:00. When we asked the shop owners for a suggestion for lunch, specifically a place that served up burgers, we were directed to Painter's. It's just down the road from the little Main Street shops. Ambience: this place is huge and looks like it has a hopping night life with a big bar. It's decorated with lots of paintings (hence the name I suppose) and a sculpture hanging from the above. It's very artsy and eclectic. It's a cool vibe. Service: it was fine and nothing special. They didn't seem very happy or friendly. Food: we ordered a hamburger (the Georgia O'keefe with American cheese instead of Swiss) with French fries and a fried chicken sandwich with sweet potatoes. Both were okay and nothing special. Family friendly with paper table clothes and crayons for both kids and adults. Drawing totally vibes with the place. Quick, casual and back on our way. Came here for lunch on a nice weekend and had no wait for a table. Be careful when you're trying to find this place, it's a little tucked in and easy to miss! Parking lot is pretty huge and attached to the building, so you shouldn't have any issues. From the outside it looks like a small little place, but once you open the doors inside, they really have quite a good layout. We started with the cheesy garlic bread appetizer with sauce for dipping, which I've been saying is an appetizer more restaurants should do, I'd order it every time! My date got the steak sandwich and I got the breakfast burrito (a real role reversal for us!) but both were incredibly flavorful and portions were certainly generous, but if I had to pick one of the two, my favorite was that stuffed to the gills burrito! But we are talking the greater among greats here. Decor here is super cool, kind of a dive bar look and feel to it, but a sort of homieness that makes tings feel a little more cozy rather than grungy. My favorite underrated part though is that all the tables are covered in brown paper and they give you crayons so you can draw on it, so embrace your inner child while you wait for some good food. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. I'd be very glad to come back here and try more of what this place has to offer all across the board. read more

Came here with coworkers for a birthday celebration and a meet and greet. It was a fun time. We reserved a table right by the live band. There are two sides to this place, which is nice. A restaurant where you can sit and eat and a bar with a live band and dance floor. At 9pm, the couches are moved so people can dance. Also, by 9p, the crowd gets younger lol. Just an FYI. We ordered drinks and food. The cocktails were just awful. None of us liked what we got...margaritas, martinis and whiskey sours...none of them were good. So we all went and got beers. Can't go wrong there. What made up for the night was the food. Really good food here. Husband and I had the: - personal grilled Margherita pizza - house marinara, fresh basil, mozzarella, roasted garlic - fish tacos - fresh mahi mahi, panko crusted and fried, guacamole, pico de gallo, chipotle sauce Some of shared: - Painter's 3 Bean Nachos - pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole with painted chicken - A simple linguine - shrimp, baby heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and garlic oil The entertainment and food was great. Painters' is a go to spot after work or for a date night. I love everything that I've tried here and the service is always prompt and attentive. My go to drink is a Hawthorne Bramble or a glass of their white sangria. Food wise, try anything and you won't be disappointed. Some of my faves are the Cobb salad, the painted chicken quesadilla, and the grilled chicken sandwich. Don't hesitate to finish the meal with an order of fried Oreos, they're perfect. read more

We stopped by here to grab lunch on Sunday. We called ahead, and the receptionist sounded distracted. We placed our order and I ran in to grab it. When I got there I believe two people walked in before me, and the receptionist was busy staring at the table behind her station. I said "hello" at least four times and she didn't acknowledge me. I knocked on the stand to grab her attention and still, she was oblivious to me being there. Finally, I raised my voice and she finally turned around. Let me be clear, the establishment, while busy, it was not loud. The noise level was at least at 3. (Basing this on a scale of 1-5, five being the loudest). She didnt look to happy being there. Or maybe she was annoyed that I disturbed her (her tone was fine, her facial expression, that gave me the impression she was upset that I walked in) we picked up our food and came home. We started eating and everything was bland. I mean, nothing had salt or black pepper. The chicken should have been seasoned well. Needless to say, while this place is about 10 minutes away from my house, we will not be visiting again. read more

I'm giving a 5 star review because this restaurant is held near and dear to me for over 20 years but GUYS, get it together. The food is just steadily declining and is so bad. What is happening? I love every single thing about Painters but I have to mentally prepare to be disappointed for food when I go in. I order the same exact thing every single time and for good reason. Today I deviated and ate a breakfast burrito and it was such a mistake. Gross. Waitstaff and bar staff are wonderful. Decor is wonderful as it's always been. Underwhelming and Overpriced After hearing many good things about this place, my wife and I decided to give it a try tonight. Unfortunately, our experience here was underwhelming at best. The menu prices for a place with this type of "rustic" vibe were shocking, to say the least. $25 for a meatloaf sandwich?! I ordered it, since they were out of the braised short ribs that I wanted to order. For that price point, the sandwich should have been amazing... not so much. A thin slice of mostly flavorless meatloaf was served with a side of au jus and fries. The best part was the pickle. my wife ordered the butternut squash ravioli with an add-on of grilled chicken. $28 for about five tasteless rubbery ravioli in a small amount of butter- not even a sauce. They honestly tasted microwaved. The chicken ($11 to add on) was a small piece of dry grilled chicken. No flavor or seasonings whatsoever. Tasted like charcoal. What a total rip-off. We go out for dinner several times a week... and love to try new places. We are so disappointed in Painter's' and will not return. $95 plus $15 tip for this meal. I had an old fashioned to drink ( it was very good) my wife had a Harpoon Winter Warmer draft... it was good and was perfectly cold. No appetizers, no dessert. I feel like the price was not at all commensurate with the quality of the food. With so many better options in this area than this place, it surprised us that it was so busy on a Tuesday night in January. read more

My old review stands, the food is awful at these prices and even at the right price this would be a disappointment. The meal was as shaky as the bad electric work overhead. I've never enjoyed the painters experience which is unfortunate because it's a cool place. The art all around, the way they manage to keep it higher scale when offering crayons for the table like they do for kids at those trashy breakfast spots of the 90's... I guess that could be in part to the astronomical prices but you'd think when you make 250% profit ripping people off with your awful chef, you'd be able to fix the lights over our table. Flashing dramatically every few seconds until an hour in when they finally flicked a switch and saved us from a seizure. Starting with the only good bite I had, my friends lamb chops tasted great, I had a small bite and that was about the last decent bite of food I had... Before that I tried: The chicken nachos which were pretty good because the chicken on top was really quite good with a chicken wing texture, sriracha glazed and cooked nicely. The burger I got with scampi shrimp on top had potential, but it was dry, my friends burger was dry and we both chomped on some hard bits inside; the shrimp wasn't peeled properly so half was inedible and you couldn't even call it scampi... it was dry grilled shrimp that probably wasn't even deveined. Also stay away from: The lobster baked clams - they were undercooked, you get five instead of your traditional half dozen, it lacks any interesting flavor and you pay $16 for some shells sliding around a glossy square plate. The fish tacos - uninspired and lackluster The pork nachos - dry and boring with broken tortilla chip dust underneath the bland party of junk instead of full chips to be able to grab. read more

Only updating my review to say they no longer serve the bread and butter, and a few menu items have been swapped out (some of what I mentioned is no longer available) which is sad but doesn't impact my decision to repeatedly return to Painters. I just have new favorite orders now. The gnocchi mac and cheese is delicious and is enough for 2 meals. Their nachos are well/thoroughly dressed and piled high. I love all their flatbread options. The peach and chicken quesadillas are still as awesome as ever. read more

I was pleasantly surprised because after walking in I had an odd feeling- it's very casual and I was super dressed up. I started with the guacamole appetizer (which was perfection)- and after I quickly polished off the guacamole, my waiter quickly refreshed it- 5 stars right there! If you're looking for a nice restaurant that also has a bar atmosphere with both amazing drinks and food, I highly recommend going to Painters. They have almost 3 sections, a restaurant, bar, and lounging area with a stage and TV! A wonderful place to go to with a small or large group of people. I really enjoyed all the dishes, and the portions were huge. Any of the large plates can definitely be shared between 2-3 people. I loved how creamy and cheesy the Mac and cheese was and the burger was to die for with all the beautiful toppings (guacamole, pico de gallo, and chipotle mayo). There wasn't a lot of ravioli given, but the butternut squash tasted so fresh and exquisite. The dragon bowl was a beast, but each bite was amazing. Horrifying Experience - Assaulted by Staff I'm genuinely shaken by what happened at this bar. I was the designated driver for my friends, and when I came to pick them up, I ended up being physically assaulted by the bouncer. When I arrived I saw of my friends near the entrance had I brought her to the car, and I went back to the entrance to gather the rest of our group. Out of nowhere, the bouncer stopped me at the door, shouted, "You're not going in there, you fcking cnt!" and then pushed me to the ground. This was completely unprovoked and unnecessary. I was just trying to make sure everyone got home safely. As a group of women who were simply looking out for each other, it's beyond disturbing that we encountered aggression and violence from the staff. This was, without question, the worst experience I've ever had at any place in the area. I'd never expect this type of behavior from anyone, let alone from someone who's supposed to be maintaining a safe environment. We will never be back. read more

Visited for 6 PM Saturday diner reservation. Decor is eclectic with many different styles of art. Open ceilings shows duct work. We had two dirty martinis and they were great in a generous glass. We split a wedge salad, great dressing also big enough for two. I had chef Rocco's special pasta. Angle hair pasta with a white wine butter and cheese sauce topped with grilled shrimp. Yum! My wife had the blackened chicken sandwich with crispy sweet potato fries. Moist sandwich and really crisp fries, she said great, best anywhere. We will be back when in town.
