There were some issues that came up, but I'm giving 5 stars because of the way they addressed them. I got a few quotes from other painters in the area and they were the best priced. I was able to schedule the paint appointment pretty quickly. They finished the job in 2 days! Unfortunately, a wall anchor was damaged and the paint on some of the doors ended up sticking. I informed the project manager, Zachary, and he was so nice about it! They eventually came back and fixed everything!!! I really appreciated their customer service. read more

I really wanted to like Paintzen. They were the lowest bid on painting our apartment. They also had done great work for us a smaller job a few years ago. The trouble began a couple of weeks after completing our apartment. In order to paint our walls, they had to remove and then reinstall some curtains. After the painters left, one of the curtains dropped out of the wall (picture 1'. When I requested they come back and fix the problem, Paintzen refused, claiming "the wall can't support the anchor" and to repair it would "go beyond your project's scope of work". On the contrary, the wall supported the curtains for 11 years until Paintzen came. The picture below shows screws without any anchors (picture 2). Surely, if they valued my business and their reputation, they would figure out a way to restore our wall to their prior condition. I escalated my complaints with the company but have yet to hear anything from them. I am reviewing my other options should they continue to ignore me. Bottom line: Paintzen may be fine for a simple and fast project like a bathroom. Do not trust them with a large project that could prove to have complexities. 0 STARS. Absolute disaster. Waste of time, money, and sanity. Scheduled painters to come for bathroom and kitchen because I didn't want to deal with trimming around the tile and cabinetry. Scheduled painters to come for Friday morning and bring the paint. Took the day off work, painters showed up promptly at 8:30 am with no paint or materials, and absolutely no idea what I had asked for. THREE HOURS later, they came back, with the wrong paint. The paint was black. On the way out, a gallon of black paint was dropped on my property's pavement, where it was left for multiple hours before my super had to spend 2 hours washing it with his power washer, streaks can still be seen. Once the right paint was actually delivered, it was 12:30 and the painters said that they didn't want to start today and would come back Saturday. Cut to the next morning for my actual paint job. 1st day - great progress. 2nd day figured they would go back and fix everything they had missed. They sure didn't. When I noticed paint on my tile and hardwood, I was told "WD-40 or maybe paint thinner" would help get that out. Great. Exactly why I hired professional painters. Constantly finding new splatters all over my hardwoods and tile. You can see the old paint almost the entire length of the seam with the tile. I wrote to Paintzen to let them know what a disaster this had been. They asked for the opportunity to send someone to fix everything. I told them I couldn't take more time off work, and they promised to have someone come on Saturday. ANOTHER Saturday spent waiting on painters, NO ONE SHOWED UP. No one even called to say there MIGHT be an issue. Monday morning I get an email saying they're sorry, there was a glitch, but someone can come next weekend, no thanks. They charged me $850 for a tiny bathroom and small kitchen. And they've offered me a 5% discount for all of this trouble. $40? For the amount of time I have personally spent touching up their sub-par job, scrubbing my floors and tiles with paint thinner, and taking time off work and ruining two saturdays, one sunday, and a monday night???? Good thing my super was in the apartment building to collect the paint... but not with a few choice words for the vendor's delivery guy with a piss poor attitude. I still got my paint, so that's good news! PaintZen also provides Certificate of Insurance documentation. Woohoo! The actual painters - Rich and Juan - were AWESOME. Rich was totally like a dad figure. Very experienced, knows what he's talking about, and honest. (I asked him for feedback regarding the other rooms in my apartment that I wanted to paint). He also oversaw the areas where Juan painted and triple checked all of the corners to ensure clean lines. They also cleaned up after themselves and did not leave a mess. Woohoo! Wow, just wow. A month ago, I found out about Paintzen on here and immediately got in touch with a manager by the name of Ivan who was such a great pleasure to work with. I was looking for someone to paint my one-bedroom apartment in Sunnyside, Queens. Bounced around and found Paintzen here on Yelp. Very, very happy I did. Very helpful and easy to get a quote (via email and calls). Very quick to start and finish the job. They take care of the paint and will FedEx large samples for you to look at on your walls. The painters themselves were prompt, neat and excellent. And the followup all the way through the project was 100% professional. I will be fair in my review. Some parts of the project was done well. But I had to hire 3 other people to fix certain parts after the Paintzen crew left. The PaintZen crew came with a broken spray gun and painted my front door like a graffiti. They refunded me $100 for the bad result and told me they weren't able to return to fix it and other parts of the project for another 6 months. They did a much better job with wallpapers compared to paint, but I still had to hire someone else to fix some parts. I agree my project was not an easy one, but for something that I paid for USD$13k, I expected a lot better than what I got. read more

I never leave reviews, but my experience with Paintzen was awesome from start to finish. Their quote was one third of the cost of other painters I was referred to, they were communicative through the booking and lead up to the job. My painter, Mike was super friendly and skilled. He was on time, explained everything he was doing and checked in to make sure I was happy with the progress. A foreman came to check on the job and was also friendly and informative. I've never paid to have painters paint my apartment before, but I'm glad I did; and I'm glad that I went with PaintZen for my new two bed/two bath. It was a great experience. I was jumping between the capable hands of Alexa and Kristen, who were there to help guide me along the process every step of the way. I received quotes from three different services, including PaintZen, which came in at the middle. What ultimately led me to go with them was the fact that the tip was included in the price, and that it isn't a cash business. These are both big highlights if you're looking for more "formal" services. Receiving electronic work orders, automatic debiting, etc. relieved a lot of potential stress from something as big as a six room job (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living room). It was an expensive job, but when all was said and done, PaintZen was the cheapest. A pleasant surprise when I thought they were going to be the most expensive. Not to mention, they're extremely flexible on customer preferences, such as the kind of paint (flat vs eggshell vs semigloss) and number of coats (one vs two) without jacking up the price. Joking aside, that is one of the single largest reasons you should use them. I was also allowed to give them colors that I liked from another brand (Behr) that they were able to custom mix (using Benjamin Moore) for my walls. The only sour point was the cleanup job. The painter's trash bag and leftovers were left in the middle of my living room, and there are little dots of paint here and there on the floors. Nothing a razor blade can't fix, but it's just another thing to have to do. On the whole, however, PaintZen was an amazing value, and was a pretty painless process through and through. NO MORE PAINT PHOBIA. WOW I am truly amazed. I am a single mom with a special needs child and just dreaded the painting process (having done it twice before and each time was a disaster.) I had a leak in my apartment from the residence above in January and finally had to bite the bullet and get it fixed and painted. After interviewing many companies and getting several quotes I was curious about PaintZen. I had heard good things and the yelp reviews were great. So I went for it. AND like I said WOW. Right off the bat Kristen was so kind and understanding of my concerns, fears and issues regarding my son. She personally helped me in picking colors and was always there for me. Alexa was great in getting me what I needed for insurance purposes since I live in a coop building. The quote was way lower than what I had been quoted and included paint, taxes and tip. OK truly Zen...something must be wrong I am thinking. It was all too good to be true. OK paint day is approaching and my phobia is reaching its heights. Again Kristen was there assuring me, telling me who is coming and what to expect. OK still Zen. Paint DAY! Freaking out. Xanax...check! The painters arrive. They are so nice, polite, respectful and knowledgeable. Huh? This can't be. Joe, the head paint master listens to me, looks at everything and gets the guys started. I used Paintzen to paint my apartment. They started the job and told me they wanted to charge me over 60% more to cover additional work. After back and forth they were willing to reduce it but still charged me over 30% more, and left the closets unpainted, as every single room, wall, ceiling, door, molding, window frame, closet, etc. had to be listed in the quote or otherwise they were not included and they'd charge you more for them. I've worked with other contractors before and have never come across such a scam. They do have more than your regular contractor type of sophistication as they have sales, coordinator and painters assigned to the project, and provide many options for the colors. Maybe they are for someone who has unlimited budget or keeps track of all and every items for a painting job. Otherwise, I would not recommend them at all. Follow up: The response by the company here did not address the issues at all. They charged extra for the doors and closets in the rooms, and claimed that these were not included in the quote even though the rooms were specifically included in the quote. read more

We used Paintzen to paint a very small nursery. First of all, the customer service was great. I worked with Alexa to pick out a paint color and to schedule the job, and she was very courteous, attentive, enthusiastic, and responsive. Big fan of Alexa. The night before the paint job, our painter called my cell phone at 10:30pm. He was rambling on and asking if he could come a little earlier than scheduled. I was awake when he called, but really? Why are you calling me at 10:30pm? A little weird... The morning of the paint job was a serious disaster. Prior to that day, I had worked out with Alexa (and paid a good amount for) masonite that would be put down in the hallway from the elevators to my apartment door. It was silly, I know, but my building required that it be done. Maybe this should be a review from whatever store Paintzen ordered the masonite from, but... The painter got here before the masonite arrived and came upstairs anyway. Then my doorbell rang later and it was some guy there to deliver the masonite who was, no joke, yelling at me (7 months pregnant, home by myself) at my door about not knowing what to do with the masonite. I was flabbergasted, almost in tears, and he just kept yelling. Thank goodness the painter went outside in the hallway to talk to him. I can't even get more into the back and forth phone calls with Paintzen and the confusion surrounding the masonite, even though it had seemed like they had done this before. It was an absolute nightmare. Much later, when the painter told me the job was done, I took a look and saw that his painting tape had ripped off the already-there white paint around the border of sliding doors in the wall. It was VERY obvious and looked horrible. Was he not planning to tell me this? Was he hoping I just wouldn't notice because I was a stupid girl? I pointed it out and he complained that he didn't have any white paint to fix it. He reluctantly agreed to walk down the street to get some. Then he came back to fix it. Once the job was finally done, I was just so happy to have the painter leave so I took a quick look and let him go. After he left, I realized it was kind of a mess. The paint itself looked nice, but there was light blue paint all over the floor of the nursery, and painting tape left in various places high up on the wall. I had read all these reviews on Yelp saying that the painters left the place spotless, so I was confused. I called Paintzen and the painter did come back, around 8pm on a Friday night (kind of ruining our Friday night) and cleaned up the floor. We still do find paint here and there on the floor and on the radiator, but what can you do? I wish I was happier with Paintzen. I booked them after seeing all the great reviews here, so I imagine I just had a fluke experience. I'm not very high maintenance, but the day was just an all-around uncomfortable hassle. I waited over a month to write this review so I didn't write it while I was angry, but I'm still pretty annoyed. Again, the final paint job looks nice, and Alexa was great to deal with. If you want your floors and appliances painted... this is your vendor. Kristen the customer service rep was very helpful via email and phone, but the drama began w/ the painters. Throughout my 4-5 day project I may have never had the EXACT same crew, meaning that details were not communicated and my directions were not followed up upon. The painters did not seem very professional or prepared. On the first day I was asked for a ladder, pen, radio and fan/AC. I told them that my ladder was new and that I'd prefer it not be used--- they used it anyway and completely destroyed it. The painters practically refused to follow my instructions to use drop cloths and blue edging tape, extending my project's timeline several days as well as resulting in the need to book a professional cleaner TWICE to clean the paint and dust SOAKED into my BRAND NEW wood floors. I am moving, and had to paint my apartment in Chicago back to off-white before vacating it. After that, I had no desire to paint anything else for a while. I found out about Paintzen from Yelp, and scheduled them to paint my new apartment in New York the exact same colors as my old apartment. This means I had to do literally nothing but talk to a few people on the phone, let the painter in, and of course pay a reasonable amount. My painter was Kurt and he was fantastic. He took the "right" amount of time - I don't want a painter who goes to fast and leaves splotches and uneven lines. I hired PaintZen, which works through sub-contracting painters, to paint two rooms in my 1BR apartment on the Upper East Side. The sales coordinator, Alexa, was easy to work with and responsive. She provided a COI for my coop building as requested. The work took two days of 7 hours/per day and included painting some complicated "picture frame" molding in my living room. These guys are awesome. I got in touch on behalf of my condo board to paint our interior hallways and entry doors and also to refinish and paint our front door. Everyone associated with the process from estimating to booking was awesome. They included ceilings free of charge due to a minor scheduling issue and also delivered a very tall ladder to make sure a 28' space was done completely. This was not a small in-apartment project. This place was great in terms of communication and responding to emails. Unfortunately they do not do in person walk throughs. From my experience you can't get an accurate quote without a walk through. Also, meeting in person is important to get a feel for the person/company that will be in your personal space painting and if they'll be easy to work with. The quote given to me without a walk through was much more than the other bids I got. So if not having a walk through doesn't bother you and you have money to overpay then this is your place I guess! read more

PaintZen really is a dream for a Manhattanite. It was easy to get a real quote and Kristen was extremely clear and easy to reach via phone and email. I hired them to paint my daughter's bedroom. The day before the job was scheduled to begin all the supplies arrived. Then the next morning Juan arrived when I expected him (he even called to say he was running a little late). He was professional, communicative and efficient. He went right to work, took a short break to eat lunch, and was back very quickly. By 5:15PM the room was finished (although I had been told it was a two-day job). The room went from a horrid dragon green to a cool, calm light blue. Juan applied two coats to everything, and did the walls, two doors, the baseboards, the ceiling and window frames AND the radiator cover. The room looks great! A buddy of mine used Paintzen for his apartment, but I wasn't looking to spend money on a full paint job. Sure, it wouldn't be easy, but how hard could it really be? After 3 days of hell painting an apartment for the first time (with pretty solid results), I decided to turn to these guys for the final part: the living room. It was just too big of a job for me to confidently tackle... too much wall and too many things to work around. Plus, I needed to get it done before the delivery of my sofa. This guy Richard came in and breezed through it in a flash. Great quality work, but just zipped through it in a way that put me to shame. I had them to paint my bedroom before moving into my new apartment. The staff was really responsive and fast in scheduling my appointment. (I requested an appointment on Sunday and got someone to paint my room on tuesday) However, the reasons I am only giving three stars are -After the painter left and the paint dried, I could not open and close my door even after a week. (It just stucks) The painter has put too many layers on the door inside part. I have to find someone to fix the problem now. - There are some blemishes on the painting of A/c. Updated: Thanks for the customer service. I called them yesterday and complained about the situation. They sent someone to see my apartment today. The staff checked and explained my problems, saying that it is the reason that the door is old...( can't recall the details) I think I received good service; however, the painter could have explained all these things to me when he finished the paint job to avoid all these misunderstandings. read more

Steer clear. Expensive quote for a luxury custom home and ended up with only one coat of paint on the walls, if areas of the walls even got any paint (I've found numerous areas not even painted or where you can see the old paint through the new). Paint drips throughout the home on doors, trim, expensive wood finishing. Charged for materials like plastic coverings and painters tape that were never used (hence the drips).
