Recently Sunset Magazine had an article on the best burritos in California. Pajaro Food Center won Best Burrito in Northern California. I'll admit I was rather surprised to read this as I drive by PFC fairly frequently and it doesn't exactly strike you as the home of Best Burrito. I'm happy to report it lives up to the hype! Usually a burrito this large is full of "filler" lettuce and lots of refried beans. These burritos are fill of nothing but goodness. Bursting with fresh steak (I ordered the carne asada) onion, cilantro, other fresh produce, and perfectly cooked rice, I can confidently say this was the freshest burrito I've ever had. Super burritos are $7. They are tightly wrapped in a foil blanket to provide excellent ingredient amalgamation. These are saucy logs and come standard with lettuce, crema, salsa fresca or onions and cilantro depending on what you order. I'm not a fan of lettuce in burritos, but this was romaine and crunchy and delicious. Avocado is included but I couldn't taste it. I'm not a fan of rice in burritos, but this is such a light touch that it actually added to the deliciousness of the burrito. I liked the carnitas, but the costillas was so spicy and succulent as to be a taste sensation. Based on what we had tonight, El Charrito should be afraid! read more

I've been seeing that this joint was 'the best burrito in California' for years and finally found it. Of course this is highly subjective and the site and a description of the super burrito is not so impressive. It's a Mexican market, the people are extra nice and may not speak English but they are OK with my pigeon Spanish or can find someone to assist, no problem. The super burrito is now $10 and of course, quite huge. It has lots of optional contents which you can control completely. The carnitas is our favorite. It has become our favorite but that is probably due to the novelty. I really like immersion into a different culture as well. They also have a Mex meat market which is great if you need a specialty cut. Real butchers right there. read more

I am so disappointed. I went to this market early in the morning, on my way home. Mind you we are on "stay home/lock down. I bought this chicken they had there and when I got home and opened the package the chicken was burnt. They placed it carefully in the package so people wouldn't notice. I'm disgusted never again. I come here for the Taqueria in the back. It is great. It is down home cooking and they offer many different plates. It ain't fancy and it is not meant to be. Just legit Mexican food at a good price. Pajaro Food Center is what I call a traditional hole in the wall. The establishment is a grocery store in front with a great little restaurant the back. Walking in the first thing one is greeted by is the checkout line. To the left is a meat counter. Walking past the meat counter to the far left hand side of the store is a little restaurant with a small sitting area. It reminds me of places I went to when I was a child. These little hidden eating places have been long lost to time. Rarely do I stumble across such a place. A good old school burrito of rice, beans, mean and salsa. The cooks make it right in front of you and put on exactly what you want. What was most striking to me was the freshness of the salsa and the tenderness of the meat. Plus the price is fantastic for the size of the burrito. This is the place to run in and grab some food, not a sit down restaurant. For what it is, it is well worth dropping by. read more

Not sure why this tends to be the trend around here but good food comes with good quality control. If I wanted hand touched street tacos, I'd go to TJ. The worst place to grab a burrito! I'm a big fan of burritos, igrab one every time I can but this one was a big disappointment the Barrito was cold the lady serving it was not a very nice person. she gave me attitude; didn't give me all the condiments that come with it. Overall the Barito it's a big disappointment I would not recommend this place to no one. I'm never going back to that place! read more

Al Pastor! Savory, decilcious and moist. So often al pastor can get dry, but the Food Center does not disappoint. Be aware, the servers may not speak any English, but it's totally worth practicing your Spanish or just communicating through gestures and hunger induced grunts. Don't miss this gem. read more

Since moving from San Jose to the Watsonville area a few months ago, I've been eating their burritos about once everyother week (chile verde and chile relleno were my favorite). I travel often since my job has me managing the entire West Coast and the NW territory, so this means I eat out a lot and try many different types of ethnic foods. I've always loved authentic Mexican food having been raised with it since I was a kid. Unfortunately, the past two visits to PFC was very disappointing. I ordered a chile verde burrito and it was cold and sour. I only had just a small portion of it before throwing it away. Within 15 minutes I had a stomach ache. After a few weeks of getting over that bad experience, I wanted to give them a second shot. I was leaving out of state where I knew "good" burritos and/or good Mexican food in general couldn't compare to what CA offers. I ordered the Chile Relleno burrito. OMG, the tortilla wasn't even heated, half the relleno was luke warm at best but worst of all, there was a 3" toothpick inside. Sure, the burritos are big for the money, but the most important thing for me is the quality of food, consistency and cleanliness. It's not always how large a burrito is for the cost to determine whether the restaurant deserves to be recognized as the best burrito in CA, but the flavor and how the other fillings compliment each other. A simple carnita taco with excellent salsa and a fresh homemade corn tortilla goes a long way. Sorry PFC, you just lost a customer. read more

To the lady in the back corner chewing on the grissle, while staring at you with a blind squint gaze, it's grotesque....Too boot, the store is dingy dirty! The checkers are rude. I give it two starts because on Tuesdays they have fish tacos which are good. They used to use fresh avocado on the burritos until recently they are doing some cheap guacamole instead. You would think after being in Pajaro for over 17 years they would learn a few words of english. This is Pajaro. Oh their carrot juicer has been broken for 3 years. read more
