I love this restaurant. Ate here one evening when I had just returned from overseas. Loved the food and service so much that I decided to bring my wife here for a date night. Last night we had our date night while our oldest watched the two younger kids. My wife and I absolutely had a wonderful time. She enjoyed her salad tremendously, and I must say the Tabdoori chicken did NOT disappoint either!! The portions are amazing, and you won't leave hungry. We had leftover salad and tandoori chicken that we brought home to the kids to see how they liked the food. They loved it, and this WILL become a family night spot for us as well as a date night spot for my wife and I. The service is friendly, attentive, and not overbearing like a lot of restaurants. The cocktails are so amazing that, while I never typically have more than one cocktail, I had a second. All in all this restaurant reminded me of food I enjoyed when deployed in India...definitely as authentic as you can get. A steady stream of customers were coming for what they apparently knew is great food We started with the Cheese Naan that pulled like a luscious pizza. The miss India is a little sweet, but is a lovely variation on an aviation. The tamarind margarita is salty, then sweet, then spicy... Wonderfully complex and delicious. We ordered several apps, including samosas and chili paneer. The ingredients were fresh, the pastry was light, and the flavors were bold and delicious. We ate everything and were already full, but we ordered more... For our mains we had butter chicken, a lamb coconut curry, the Pakwan special, Dal Makani, and a vindaloo dish. All were fresh, well balanced, moderately spiced per our order, and delicious. Between the fluffy basmati and the various (Plain, garlic, rosemary) naan, we all ate way too much... I've lived in Colorado Springs since '95. This is the best, freshest Indian food we've found in the city. The liquor license for cocktails, beer and wine is a great plus. It had been years since we last ate Indian Cuisine, and we just didn't know which restaurant here in the Springs to go to. We went to Pakwan and OMG we found our new Indian restaurant for years to come. We tried their Samosas Chaat as an appetizer which foretold of great food to come. We had traditional lamb curries and the chicken (spicey) vinaldoo and the restaurant hit a home run on both of these. We added the garlic Naan and capped it off with a Rasmalai for dessert. Needless to say, the next time we go we will order the EXACT same items, except we will be ordering 2 Rasmalai's because we each want our own. They give you lotsa food! Service was also awesome. Apparently we have been eating mediocre Indian food and found that there is a higher quality after dining at Pakwan. The food was well-prepared, flavorful and plentiful. Each aromatic spice in the dish was distinctive, the grains of rice cooked perfectly, the authentic naan bread was fresh and well-textured. A Yelp reviewer named Sherry wrote that she wanted to go back the next day and we felt the same. Comfortable atmosphere and decor, pleasant wait staff and very clean. Our first visit was OUTSTANDING! And just to be sure --- our second visit was also OUTSTANDING! Affordable and first class through and through. Professional staff, all the tables neatly staged with cloth napkins rolled with quality utensils, modern cultural music, and a stunning interior that would give several 5-star restaurants a run for their money. Pakwan is centralized near the Academy and Austin Bluffs intersection very close to King Sooper's grocery store. The food was superb -- particularly the Pakwan Special with Chicken (very tender and not over cooked) and the Rosemary Naan was especially hot and fresh! On our second visit, the Biryanis with lamb (mildly spicy as you would expect) with long-grained rice complemented with a white cumber sauce was exquisite. We tried the Kashmiri Naan and that was also hot and fresh with a sweet bright red concoction of nuts, raisons, and cherries. Wow, what a treat! Food connoisseurs typically warn first-timers to avoid deserts. But, no worries at Pakwan -- their deserts are most excellent! The rice pudding ("Kheer") was delish! Light, not too sweet, and a GREAT complement with the dinner we had. BACKGROUND: Pakwan is a term usually reserved for fine dining. And it truly is.
