Grease, Grease, and more Grease! My husband suggested this place, and I was excited. Who doesn't love a Funnel Cake? Plus, I didn't have to wait for a vendor to come to downtown OP! However, the Funnel Cake was hard and not packaged well. I took a small bite and was done immediately. I inspected the bottom of the Funnel Cake, trying to figure out why it wasn't tearing easily like a light, fluffy one. My suggestion is that if a Funnel Cake is taken from hot grease and packaged in styrofoam, some holes should be poked in it. The powdered sugar will come wet and sweaty, and the holes will help it dry out. read more

I came here for the sole purpose of trying their Mangonada, and I'm glad I tried this place out. I came in and was greeted by the person behind the counter. She was so sweet and helpful and let me know that I was picking a delicious choice. The drink was amazing. The mango combined nicely with the chamoy sauce and chill powder, which gave the perfect balance of sweet and tart. This was a perfect way to beat the Kansas heat. You get to choose mango, pineapple, strawberry, lime or watermelon as sorbet flavors. My cashier never gave me a choice but glad he got mango for me so I'm happy. They didn't go cheap on the tamarind sauce and chamoy like most places. I got the Tacos which comes in three and you can mix the protein. Al Pastor is my favorite and then the carne asada and then the grill chicken. The tacos supposed to come with grill jalapeno but they only gave me grill onion and lime and one dipping sauce. This is my favorite Tropicana in the area!! Craving mangoneada or elotes? This is your place. I loved Tropicana way back in Wichita, so after moving up here, I just had to find another one. I tried the other locations, but none came up to the taste and service that Olathe have! They make everything from scratch-- ice-creams, churros, tortas, juices, etc. Communication can be tough at times, depending on which workers you get. Just point to the menu and they should understand. I always get the classic mangoneada special and elotes so it's not too hard to order. Service is always great, but the taste is even better. They never skim out on me like other places (especially KU Med location), and the flavors are always right. Prices can be a little high when comparing to other dessert spots nearby, but it's worth it once a month. I haven't try their actual dishes yet but I'm planning to in the future! 5/5 would recommend! read more

I think this place is a franchise but I've always known them for mangonadas which are hella good. Everything is good no matter what you order. You can go in to order or call ahead. They have many desserts to choose from and lots of Mexican food options. They are always busy no matter the time or day. But they work efficiently to help you out! You can pick what kind of meat you want in it. The elote in a cup is a must if you love elote. The only complaint I have is the wait. If you are ordering food expect a wait, but it is worth the waits. On my second trip here I had the Pastor tacos. They are delicious. It is a little on the sweeter side (pineapple) but it is just the way I like it. It is a good combination of sweet, sour, and spicy During COVID-19: You have do have to call-in ahead of time. I've noticed the new green awning since last fall. I thought what a crazy time of year to open an ice cream/yogurt/sno cone/whatever kind of cold deliciousness this was. Well a couple weeks ago as I drove by the place was packed. In early February. That got my attention. Since my wife loves ice cream we stopped in yesterday afternoon. She was very happy we did. Tropicana serves ice cream, fruit juice bars, cream based fruit bars, desserts like banana splits to funnel cake, churros and tropichurros ( a split churro with fruit inside. If you are looking for a meal (have not tried any yet) they have Tortas, Tamales, Burritos, Empanadas, Flautas . . . you get the idea. They also have "Natural Made Juices" that looked good. We went for ice cream and will make another trip to try these other options. How was the ice cream? Well my wife thought it was GREAT! She had rum raisin and creme leche (excuse my spelling) or caramel. I opted for the cafe (coffee) ice cream. Tasty. The interior looks professionally done. Colors and displays look very nice even though they are menu items on silver background. It works. My assumption initially was we were in a franchise ice cream shop. I'm not so sure. I was so excited to find out we had a Tropicana in Olathe. My boyfriend loves to come here for the fruit cocktail. The fruits were little different here but it maybe have just been due to the season. He also got the elote and it was ok. My kids got ice cream and it was so good! It was much better than I had expected. Very good. Elotes are always scalding hot and delicious. Ordered the Cubano Torta based off another yelp photo. It was delicious, but there were 5 kinds of meat on it. The menu just said beef tenderloin and chorizo so not sure how they came up with the other three. It has a slice of ham on top, then the thin breaded tenderloin, then a long, curled quartered hot dog(???), the egg/chorizo mix and the bottom was some pulled pork or barbacoa of some kind. I came to Kansas for couple days and went there right from the airport and was hooked! I got one or two each day from that point on. Went for dinner tonight and I was OVERWHELMED by the choices! 3 out of 4 walls have menus - that are all different! One is a LED menu that rotates with even more choices! We got tortas (3 different kinds) and a grilled chicken burrito. I got the steak torta (3.5 stars) which had the common thinly sliced but tasty steak, tomatoes (too green for my liking), lettuce, cheese and a steak sauce. I would have preferred mayo or something else for the wet ingredient. Another person got the Cuban and it looked great (see pic) and he said he was really good. The grilled chicken burrito was light and refreshing but had a lot of lettuce, more than I expected. It had good flavor with a combination of rice and black beans served with a side of guacamole sauce. We all got elotas (corn w/mayo, spices) that were a hit with all of us! This places offers them on a stick (the only way I've seen them) but they also offer 3 sizes in cups. I'm a traditionalist and stuck with corn on the cob fashion but next time I'll go crazy and order it in a cup! haha Desserts meant another trip to the counter to peruse the menus. I went to 2 small scoops of ice cream (coffee, cookies 'n cream) and another person opted for caramel churros. The ice cream is on the menu as "homemade" and it had a creamier texture than the typical hand scoop variety. Both flavors were a tad on the sweet side but that won't stop me in future if I cream ice cream! I was told the churros were great, as usual! Glad I tried this little place and I anticipate we'll be back sooner than later. :) read more

This is a very cool addition to the Santa Fe corridor in Olathe. Numerous ice cream and other frozen treats are here to tempt the visitor. When my sister and I visited on a warm weekend afternoon, many of the tables were occupied. I ordered the TNT shaved ice drink, which featured tamarind and chiles. I know that tamarind is a popular flavoring for Mexican candy, and I thought I would enjoy it. Sadly, I didn't. It was salty, sour and spicy, and the combination didn't work for me. It wasn't refreshing, though I don't blame them for my ordering choice. Based on what I could see from the customers enjoying their selections, this is a place I will come back to and order something a little more in line with what I know I will like. Came here after my lunch as I was craving for dessert (i always crave desserts.. who am I kidding?) and I wanted to try their cocktels de fruta which is perfect for this hot and sunny day. Service: it was good, BUT there was only ONE person working the front during lunch hour so it took about 15 minutes until I ordered and paid. I'm guessing someone didn't show up? Hm, whatever. Food: ordered the cocktel de fruta which is basically cut "sticks" of various fruits including jicama, cucumbers, mangos, pineapples and canteloupe. I asked for it to be fully loaded, which they add lime juice, tijin pepper seasoning and a touch of salt. it is absolutely delicious and so refreshing! Interestingly enough this place is great for a quick meal along with the awesome selection of ice creams and other desserts. My kids really enjoy their ice creams and shaved ice. I usually get the fruit cocktail. Caution that the fruits served will vary depending on what is available for the season. Included in my fruit cocktail today was cucumber which I was a little surprised but never the less my fruit cocktail was still very pleasant.
