    Summer in the city...
    Tom V.

We ended up here because our first choice was closed due to COVID, and man, did we make a great discovery on the northeast side. Snuggled up along Independence Avenue, where some of my favorite taco trucks love to haunt, you'll find Fruitopia, which is more than just cold summer treats. You want variety, you got it. Fruitopia has frozen options from the blah (I see you, orange) to the cross-culture (tamarind, anyone?) and a long list of fruity choices in between. Try a fruta, which is a fabulous blend of fruit and ice cream with a touch of crunch. Or go for a milkshake, and don't go too small. I've done the dulce de leche shake a couple of times and holy wow! It's just indescribably delicious, from the caramel syrup mixed in all the way to the cherry adorned on top. Parking is easy, prices are pretty standard (I don't think I've ever spent more than $20 for the fam), but it's the product that is difference. The only downside is the wait. Fruitopia is *not* quick, but they do deliver on that top-notch menu. Sometimes good things do come to those who wait! I haven't even tried the food fare yet, but if their tortas are anything like their frozen selection, then I am in for another reason to visit frequently.

Delicious food and the service was great! They offered fast, fresh and hot street tacos. They had a cart of popsicles with a large variety of flavors. They were delicious and had large chunks of fruit inside. A perfect cold treat for a hot day!

Came here to tried out some new food and ice cream with my close friends and fam! This place just recently opened on the Ave. Great open space and plenty of seating. Staff are friendly and the food is serve fresh. Like the Mexican hot dog. Yumm! I do like the their pistachio ice cream! Very tasty and one single scoop is just enough for me. If you order a kid size, it comes in a cute cardboard truck and great for the kids to play with once they are done with their ice cream. Their mangoneda is good with mango ice cream, mango bits, chamoy, tajin, and a straw filled with tamarind. But it is overwhelming with the chamoy sauce, I think I would ask a little of it next time. And lastly, the Elotes is just as good as Tropicana. Good amount of cheese, corn, and tajin. Definitely would go back for that.

    Jamaica and street corn!

Ordered a cup of Jamaica(red hibiscus tea, street corn (cup of corn, Mayo, like, Cotija and tajín) so tasty and super hot on a chilly afternoon and Torta des res(beef sandwich, refried beans hot sauce lettuce and tomato and mayonnaise. Everything was delicious. This place also offers smoothies if all sorts and paletas (real fruit popsicles!) I will try one next time as it was a bit chilly.

Ordered the lime Special, fruit, and churros all were exceptional quality. I am pleasantly surprised my go to used to be Tropicana but their quality control has become an issue. Frutopia hit the mark. Careful packaging. Great taste. And great service, couldn't ask for more.

I decided I've checked into the place quite a few times now that I can leave a proper review. I've tried various items from their fresh fruit, juices, cakes, ice cream to their food. We tried the chicken quesadilla for my daughter who didn't like that they were green tortillas so she wouldn't touch them, so I ate them and they were delicious. It comes with a side of guacamole which had zero flavor, however. We also tried the cubana which was extremely messy, the carne was thinner than the picture shown and the hot dogs were well over cooked with a rubbery texture to them. The cubana did have good flavor regardless. I've tried their detox and fruitmango juices which are made with fresh fruit and veggies in front of you and both taste great. They have a large selection of delicious ice creams and even have cute paper ice cream truck to put the kids scoop of ice cream in; my three year old loved it! We also tried their tres leches cake and a strawberry cheesecake CAKE! They usually have different varieties of slices to choose from. Last I was in (last week) it looked as though they are expanding the place for a larger sitting area. The place is always very clean and the staff always use sanitary gloves. This is my go to place now for a yummy treat for sure!

Paradise on independence Ave! Frutopia is where you want to be winter through summer, nothing breaks the doldrums of winter like this place. Every type of ice cream you can imagine, it's all creamy and delicious, every type Mexican street food, a churro station that will blow your mind. I don't know what to say... Get there!

Have only been here twice and the food here is delicious and well priced! I won't lie most of the staff speaks Spanish and that's about it so if you only speak English it may be a little hard to order or read the menu but just about anything you get is a win!

Pecan and AVOCADO ICE CREAM! YESSS!

Just an update, the expanded seating area is now open and all the ice creams have labels. There is corn, avacado, cheese and TEQUILA FLAVORS! This place is amazing.

I went a relatively safe route and got lavender honey, which was absolutely delicious & had the perfect amount of lavender flavor. Had to get it in a waffle cone which was so soft (in a good way) that it was more of a pancake cone. Ambiance is cute, service was fast. Can't comment on parking, but it's readily accessible with Metro. 10/10 would recommend!

Hey, you know what you need after having spent most of the afternoon trying all the KC BBQ places…read moreand wondering what to do next, ice cream was suggested. Why not? Especially since Betty Rae's is a local landmark. Since it was a holiday weekend the lines were long, especially with the way the coolers were oriented. The flavors were laid out on a little tree near the drinks cooler, what should I get? Something a little lighter like their sorbet? I texted a former KC local friend of mine and he said go the ice cream route. I eventually settled on the Goat cheese, apricot and candied walnut with the Chantilly cake in one of their homemade waffle cones. I was expecting the Goat cheese flavor would be the standout but the Chantilly cake with the berries was slightly better; the goat cheese was a little too rich. The ice cream was a little softer than I expected and with the soft waffle made it a bit messier than it should have been.

I love a lot of spots around the metro, but let's be honest, some of them get crazy busy and you end up waiting in line for a while. That's not a dealbreaker, but with a summer of social distancing, it's nice to have a spot like Annedore's that is tucked into the neighborhoods, has outdoor seating, and is never too busy. Their gelato is so good, and the service is friendly as it gets. We've made a tradition of walking up here as a family once a week, and together we've ordered or sampled: Cookies & Cream, Birthday Cake, Mint Chip, Chocolate Chip, Coconut, Strawberry, Berry Sorbet, Vanilla, and Lemon Basil. All are great (not crazy about the birthday cake one my kiddo always gets), the Berry Sorbet and Lemon Basil are standouts on a hot day. Their portions are generous, prices are very fair, the outdoor seating is great, and it's a very clean shop. Oh, and I recently discovered that macarons are delicious, and theirs are some of the best around. They're around $2.50 a pop and well worth it. I cannot recommend this place enough for gelato, macarons, and of course chocolate if that's your thing. Want to skip lines for ice cream (well, gelato) this summer and still support local? This is your spot. Bookmark it!
