The Palace Diner was quite good. We stayed overnight in Poughkeepsie on a trip visiting friends and relatives and needed a late dinner. I had a late breakfast - omelet, etc, and my companion, a salad aficionado, ordered a salad. Both of the meals were very good. If I was going to carp, I might say that the bacon was a little thin. The flavor was enjoyable, though. Since it was late, we didn't try the coffee. The server was friendly and attentive. This is not haute cuisine but very well prepared diner food. If we get back here again, we'll eat at the Palace Diner again. read more

I do not know how this place has anything but 1 star. We went for breakfast. The eggs were cold. The home fries tasteless. The sausages tasted awful. The floors look dirty. However, I was willing to ignore all that if they had adhere to social distancing rules. The table right next to us had a family with a baby highchair in the isle. There is absolutely no way, those people were 6 feet away from us. To add salt to injury, one of them got up to have a gathering with other people from the other table blocking the isle. Again those people were not six feet away from us. Management said nothing. As a matter of fact, an employee joined in the conversation with total disregard that we were sitting mere feet away from them. It is a disgrace that nothing was said. Also, they should advertise outdoor seating if they cannot accommodate people that want to seat outside. We asked and was told they already have 9 people outside when there were empty tables out there. That should have been our clue. We should have left then. Lesson learned. I'm at The Palace multiple times a week, because the food is great most times. The wait staff are usually attentive and friendly, unless you go at 3 in the morning on a weekend when everyone's getting out of the bar. You could be waiting a while then. It's popular for the business crowd and lunch and the college crowd at night. Hands down, it's the best diner in Poughkeepsie. This was the place to be! I'd go with friends, family, co-workers; it was an all around go diner to go to. You don't really hear a lot of negative things coming from this place. The only thing I can say is some things are better than other things on the menu (obviously) but the food isn't always consistent. This diner is usually great for breakfast, but my usual French Toast today was less than satisfactory. Also, some of the accompanying bacon was burned, and it was replaced. My companion's hamburger was fine, except that he had asked for a slice of raw onion. When the check came, we were charged 85 cents for the onion. With tax, that's nearly a dollar. I really really resent being charged for something that is ALWAYS free elsewhere. And that's where we will be going from now on. Elsewhere. It's been a while since I've been to a diner, but I definitely liked the bigger portions and authentic brunch without the long wait here at Palace Diner compared to the city. We started it off with an order of Buffalo Wings and Potato Skins. I really enjoyed the wings, it tasted like a mixture of Tabasco Sauce with Barbecue Sauce, so think sweet, tangy, and a hint of spicy. I would definitely order them again since I have a soft spot for buffalo wings. The potato skins were meh, they were lacking in flavor, toppings, and could have been presented better in my opinion. I ordered the Granola Crusted French Toast with Fresh Berries which is probably the best French Toast I had to date. The granola added a great chew and texture to the French Toast and the strawberries were perfectly sweet. My boyfriend ordered the Corned Beef & Hash Benedict which was delicious when I tried it while my other friends ordered a Reuben Sandwich which looked typical and a Short Stack of Pancakes which came with two pancakes that were not fully cooked. Took a special trip here with my husband yesterday because of the good reviews I seen on yelp. I'm not sure why the reviews were so good the food was nothing special and there were old mucky pieces of lettuce in my salad. The waitress was extremely slow to bring anything that we needed to the table, like dressing for my salad that I had to ask for? Extra napkins were not to be found and the bathrooms were filthy! On my way out the door I took a look behind the bar and the tray for the ice machine was as dirty as the bathroom walls were. I wonder what does the kitchen look like? Here we go again, on this brisk Sunday afternoon the noted yelper is back for round 4. On this gloomy weekend, becky john and I picked up a new addition to the team, nick avello himself. All four of us were hurting for a good meal as we walked in smelling the distinctive diner fragrance. We walk into the dinning room and notice the cozy home-like atmosphere (beautiful carpet too). We then get seated at an annoyingly small 4 person table and got very tempted to switch to a nearby 4 person booth. Becky and I have been having relationship complications lately and she was complaining about every little thing, the service, the water, the coleslaw, you name she complained about it (she even claims our waitress was eyeing her down)!! I do have to say though, their water glasses were awfully small and they refused to give us straws. REALLY??!! No straws at a DINNER??!!!? Anyway Becky said the only OKAY thing was her actually wrap, she argued that we should have rated it a three star. On to jk47, the overseer of our relationship. Jk47 was delightfully satisfied with his burger and fries. He argued this was the best diner he had ever been to!! And again, jk47 thought the floors were astonishing and inviting! Jk47's only complaint was the insufficient size of the table NOW, nick the killer avello. Nick said his burger and fries were very good tasting and they went skimpy on the bacon. BUT, nick says he left palace still hungry and craving more Overall, palace diner satisfied our afternoon blues hunger with ease. Palace had quite tasty food but unfortunately had inadequate service. Palace is definitely one of the better diners in the area. becky says she takes palace over table talk but eveready over both.
