I would like to start this review by stating that I am not a novice computer operator. I've been doing my own computer hardware and software installations since the late 1990s, so I know my way around computers pretty well. If you own a Windows PC, at some point in your ownership you MAY experience what is called in the industry the "Blue Screen of Death". According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary: Blue screen of death; noun; variants or less commonly Blue Screen of Death; plural blue screens of death. A screen that usually consists of an error message displayed in white text on a solid blue background and that occurs when an electronic device has encountered an error from which it cannot recover. About 6 months ago, I wanted to install a PCI card into one of our office computers. I opened up the computer, looked at the motherboard, and began calling around to my local computer stores to see if anyone had a PCI card as they are as rare as one seeing Bigfoot. At the end of the day, I could not find one. So, I put the computer case back on, turned the computer on, and halfway through the startup, I got the BSD. After a week or so of experiencing a constant BSD, I took the computer to the shop where I had purchased it, which happened to be in a completely different city. They fired it up and just like an automobile when you take it to your mechanic, they could not get it to duplicate the BSD. I brought the unit home and within an hour it was doing the same thing. Perplexed, I packed up the computer and took it to Palafox Computers to see if they could figure out what was going on. When they called and said it was ready, I learned from Donnie, the technician that worked on my computer that the adhesive designed to keep the CPU fan locked in place had worn out therefore the CPU was not functioning correctly. When I asked what the bill was going to be for the repair, I was told it was $60. I was pleasantly surprised as I was thinking the fix was going to cost a lot more. From the time I first engaged with the front desk person when dropping my computer off, through the pickup with Donnie explaining what the problem was, everyone at Palafox Computers was professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend that anyone looking to have their computer(s) repaired, Palafox Computers is the only company in PCola that you should be dealing with. On a scale of 10, I give them an 11. I am extraordinarily impressed with Palafox Computers. After being told by another computer repair store that my computer was at the end of its lifespan & there were no options except to buy another computer (groan), I took my 'rather-middle-aged' 7- year old 11"HP Pavilion laptop (i5 processor!) to PC to have them back it up to an external HD due to file history issues. When I struggled to initially describe some of the 'message prompts' I received when having issues with the computer's file history, they patiently asked me a couple of more questions to tease out more info. They never made me feel like I was computer-illiterate. They successfully backed up everything & it was ready for pick up within the same day!! They even sent status updates via text!..very impressive. They were like-minded in that they also did not want to see my computer end up in the landfill & instead, suggested options to extend the capacity, speed, and lifespan of the computer with the installation of a new 1TB SS HD...much less expensive than a new computer. I brought it in a few days later for this procedure and they even called me to update me on what was being done and then had it ready in a matter of hours. Their attention to detail is exceptional, even barcoding the computer and cords/adapters to ensure no lost or mixed-up items. I always felt like that were very engaged in resolving my problem. Their customer service is incredible! ... accommodating, receptive, non-judgmental, friendly, and so honestly-down-to-earth. Their location and hours are very convenient (downtown)with easy parking in front of the store. They also sent out a follow-up email a few days later to ensure that I am satisfied. Sooo... I spilled coffee on my laptop (I know I know, what a costly mistake). I sped over to Palafox computers to try and revive any damage that that had occurred right away. Both the technician and the customer service representative were extremely kind, compassionate and helpful. They calmed me down, and gave me options. They COULD have fixed the water damage with a new logic board but I decided that since my laptop was almost 9 years old, it was time to invest in a new one. I purchased a new computer and brought it into them before even taking it out of the plastic wrapping/box. The computer technician was able to transfer all my data from my old computer (that I have been running multiple businesses on for about a decade) to my brand new computer. All applications, all passwords, all saved documents, everything. When I picked it up the following day, I opened the laptop and it was as if I was looking at an exact (but newer) copy of my old computer. Literally even the internet browser that I was working in before I spilled the coffee was open to the exact same website on my brand new computer. A TINY bit more expensive than Best Buy, for example, but worth it in terms of attention to detail and turn around time. Fast service, quality service and trustworthy staff. Not enough stars!! I purchased a desktop from this business back in April of this year 2016 anticipating the closing of my new home. There were the delays that come with home buying. The technician was very polite and helpful. He obtained a system from another location. Bench tested and allowed me to come in the room to verify. Fast-forward to June. Closed on house ,and moved in. I was so excited. Cox hooked up my I-net plugged computer in and "pop". I took it to their location and told the tech what it did. He looked at me and said "I will have to get with the manager". I told my son. "That means buyer beware in the business world" The next day I received 3 calls. I returned the call the tech said" We are going to give you an upgrade, put a converter in it. Provided the connection cable, and.......get this give it WIFI capabilities!!! How sick is that! AT NO CHARGE!! I ran over there before they came to their senses (just unheard of that kind of service these days) The manager was there. I was fortunate enough to thank this man for his kindness. His reply was "It was the right thing to do!" Heck! all that was left was him riding off into the sunset on a white horse! I'm African American, and served my country for 17 years until I shattered my leg. This man that owns this place and his team is what I'm proud to have served. I'm very pleased with Palafox Computers. As a fairly high-level computer user with significant IT experience (e.g. I build cryptocurrency mining rigs, websites, etc.), I managed to create a problem I couldn't solve. Last week, while in the process of resurrecting a moth-balled older system unit, I got impatient and accidentally cut a trace on the motherboard while reattaching the CPU fan I had just cleaned. Needless to say the motherboard was now dead. Not knowing Palafox, I called, explained the issue... and they offered to take a look. Long story short, they repaired the damaged motherboard trace at a very reasonable price and the system unit is running like new. In my experience... it's very rare that a computer repair place would even consider repairing a board-level component. My husband has used this company several times however, I have not. My first experience was great! I was greeted when I came into the doors. The staff was very friendly. The customer that was there informed me he has been coming there since they opened. He was their first customer ever and he never would go elsewhere! That was definitely re-assuring. I explained my issue with my laptop. The gentleman told me it would be within the next day I would hear from someone in response to my issue. The same day, Darren called me. He said explained to me exactly what they were going to do (I work in healthcare, tech is NOT my thing). He called me the next day and told me that it was ready to go and all they did. I got my computer in April of 2021. After three months, the computer began to malfunction. My first thought was that it needed a new power cord. After buying three power cords, with no improvement in the computer, I realized that the problem was not with the power cords. Since I couldn't afford to get the computer repaired, I put it back in it's original box and didn't use it for a year. I found out about Palafox Computers by scrolling on my phone. They diagnosed the problem while I was there. Two days later, they called me and told me that they had ordered a part for it and it was ready to be picked up. As a woman "of age". As soon as I stepped into this computer repair business, I knew I found folks I could trust. The gentleman at the desk spoke in a language I understood. And was told it would take a day or so to repair. (I had been told by another repair business I needed a part that would come from China with no idea how long that would be.) As soon as I got home I received an email with the name of who would be repairing my computer and estimated completion date. THE NEXT DAY around noon I got an email saying it was ready. My laptop had a catastrophic failure - hard drive totally died. I hadn't backed it up recently (that's how I found out the HDD was bad; attempting to back it up I got an error message about bad sectors on the drive). I was afraid I lost some critical data. The techs at Palafox Computers not only installed a new drive (a solid state one at that which was a VERY reasonable price) but they also were able to recover ALL of my files. Not only did they accomplish all this in less than 24 hours but they masterfully restored every app including all my saved browser passwords, Outlook settings, etc. This is the first time I've ever had such a completely seamless rebuild! The hard drive on may laptop was going bad and my system was slowing down alot. I had already bought a new laptop and hoped that they could clone the old one to the new one. I brought it in the same day and they said they would check out drive but if it was too far gone they would still be able to transfer my personal files. Got call back soon after and that was the case. Not long after that they called me tell me it was ready. He gave me the old drive to keep in case I should have any problems down the road and they could still pull same personal files. The fee was very reasonable, the service was excellent! FAIR SHAKE! Fair shake?...about the only place to get one nowadays is to purchase it along with your midway hot dog at the fair. Palafox Computer Repair has once again "made my day." I had just download a utility program entitled PC Repair. Everything went find in the download and the scan that deleted a number of files. The problem was that it deleted some Window Startup Files and as the saying goes, it "all went south" the next time I did a startup. Got a message that a critical error had been detected during startup and it then listed 4 options to fix the problem but none of them work. Palafox Computers was able to bring the system up once they were able to restore the system to a backed up restore point and deleted the program that caused the problem in the first place. I called on the phone at 5 one day explained what service I needed for my computers, you listened and welcomed me to bring them in not only did I get excellent service speedy by the next day and fairly priced when I took my computer home it worked the best it has in over 2 months. The Palafox Computer staff kept me informed of the progress of service on my old computer and were more than helpful in helping me make the discission to purchase rather than continue with repairs on my 12 year old laptop. No attempt to up sale something I didn't need and they had just what I needed in stock. The price was right and they were able to recover my files from my old computer and transfer to my new computer at no additional coast. My wife hadn't used her IPAD in a few years. She wanted to get into I & had forgotten the code. We took it to a couple of other places and they couldn't help us. One person even told us it was a paperweight now. That was a real shame since my wife had only used it for about 10 hours total time. Someone recommended Palofox computers & the rest is history. I have taken my phones and laptop to Palafox Computers for a couple years. My mom has used them too and always had a great experience. Every time, the service has been fantastic. The techs are great, bending over backwards to try to help me with my issues and not cost me an arm and leg. Even on the phone, they've walked me through issues with my laptop and solved my problems. My relatively new iMac desktop was mysteriously running very slow; I looked into Palafox Computers via other online reviews, which were fantastic, and decided to bring in the device to them. Within 24 hours, they promptly and professionally had the computer completely tuned-up and running very fast - like a brand-new machine - again, and for a reasonable expense. They also proactively advised for installing new antivirus software which I gladly obliged to. My 2017 Macbook pro was running slow AND the battery was completely shot; would immediately turn off the minute the power source was removed. Palafox Computers replaced the battery which is now AWESOME (lasts 8ish hours on battery unless I'm doing really resource intensive activities with it). What I was really impressed with was that they could have charged me an extra $70 for a tuneup but they recommended I not do that because the new Mac OS on this old hardware is what makes the computer slower.
