Can I just say.... FAMILY GOALS! As soon as I walked into this establishment I fell in love and I didn't even have to try the ice cream. Although the Ice Cream, and Popsicles were astonishing, that is not what caught my attention. I was greeted by Stephanie. She is the daughter of the owner. Stephanie was very knowledgable with everything that they had. She presented and explained everything to me so elegantly. Stephanie had told me that this craft has been passed on from generation to generation in her family. I'm sure when you visit, she'd be delighted to tell you as she did me. (Thank you Stephanie) But the passion, and the love that they have for these gourmet treats is unexplainable. That's the upper hand that they have on any of their competitors. You can taste the quality in the ingredients, and their secret ingredient is love. I know it sounds corny but trust me. It's true. The ambience of the family is so uplifting. They are all genuinely happy to share with everyone what's been in their family for ages. Everything is homemade. Water Based Popsicles, Milk Based Popsicles, Ice Cream. ALL HOMEMADE! I bought about 18 or so Popsicles, 1 chocolate covered banana, and a scoop of strawberry ice cream. I was overwhelmed with all the delicious flavors I couldn't just try one. This place is delicious! My boyfriend and I both got the mangonadas and we both enjoyed it. Very flavorful and refreshing. The small size comes with two scoops of the water based flavors. My boyfriend got strawberry and mango, and I got pineapple and mango. All of them were delicious. The owner was a sweet and friendly man that chatted us up and told us about how all the ice cream and popsicles are homemade. THIS PLACE IS OUT OF CONTROL. OUT of CONTROL! Tustin was missing a paleteria. I hope everyone reads this review and floods the store because this is a true mom pop shop in Tustin and I hope their business does well. After Taco Tuesday, we were full of sodium and our bellies were seeking glucose. Yelp pointed out a "hot and new" dessert joint less than a mile away so we make the trek on foot and stumbled into this treasure mine. My friends and I were mesmerized by the menu and flavors available. We asked so many classic annoying customer type questions but the owner who happened to be working was so patient with us and even offered us some samples. My husband and I ended up sharing a Mangonada ($5.25). We picked two flavors (mango and tamarind) for the base, and it was topped with this delicious chamoy syrup and a tamarind stick as the cherry on top. I had never had a mangonada before, so I wasn't sure what to expect... but let me tell you, every bite was like a piece of heaven! We saw this crazy photo of what she called "Tostilocos" ($5.50). They apparently cut open a bag of chips, put a bunch of crazy things like cucumber, peppers etc into the bag, shake it up, and serve it to you as a snack! My mind was blown when she explained this to me and showed me all the chip flavors on the shelving. There was also a delicious selection of popsicles! This selection really, in my mind, blew other pop bar type establishments out of the water. They had flavors like grape, rompope con pasas, avocado, oreo, chocobanana, watermelon, prunes, elote and the list goes on and on. I love that this place has a simple menu and authentic flavors. The owner mentioned to us that everything is made in the store and they just opened recently. Due to the permit or legalities, they aren't able to set up tables in the store, which is really too bad, because the desserts are so delicious, you will want to gobble them up on the scene! Update! Finally paid this place a visit in the flesh. Went with co-workers and I was so full from just having lunch that I was going to skip getting a pop. Until.... wait for it.... AVOCADO! One word and the creamy green color made me do an about face and decided nothing was going to get in the way of me and an avocado dessert! You see, growing up in the Asia Pacific region, I only knew avocado as a dessert with milk and sugar my whole life. Obviously that all changed when I discovered guac here, but let's save that story for another day. So dear readers, if you've never had avocado as a dessert, I say here's your chance to try. Last summer I came here quite frequently and loved their paletas (their cream based ice creams bars) and craved one every other day. Their prices at first were reasonable and affordable for the paletas, however everything else is not. I was way over charged for a ice cream Sundae probably and a paleta. I paid over 12 dollars for the two items! PRICEY. Their hours are not suffice for a ice cream shop located in SoCal. We went back yesterday and got the ice cream on a stick flavored: -limon, pepin, chia, and chamoy -mamay I just realized this place is better than any POP BAR or those Hippy Pop ice cream places, or even any of those so called "specially made flavors" places. Paleteria's like this are way underrated. Where other places boast about unique flavors and ice cream, they've got nothing on Paleteria Azteca. There are 100x's more unique flavors than those hippy ice cream shops can claim they have. Not only that, but these guys have been doing this since forever and they get no credit! Instead the POP bar scene, good with marketing and PR, swooped in and took all the glory. These guys have been making unique flavors, true to their culture and ethnicity, but alas, this line of business is tough and you have to sell your soul and turn your back against your belief in order to make a profit. I hope places like these do w/ell. They probably had to put every penny, and then some, in order to have their dreams come true and share their love with the world. So Go Paleteria Azteca! WOW!!! OMG!!! WOW!!! This place is AMAZINGLY DELIGHTFUL! If you're a popsicle fan, or even an ice cream person, you definitely must come here! While entering Paleteria Azteca, I was greeted by one of the family members who works there. He was sooo helpful. He explained to me about all the different ice creams that they had, and what it was made out of. They have two types, water based and milk based. I really wanted a few different flavors, because they all looked so good, but I came here for the popsicles. Then, after viewing the ice cream, he showed me the popsicles. I felt like died and went to heaven. I've never seen a freezer sooo beautiful! They had way too many flavors for me to choose. When looking checking out all the different flavors, I was torn between the strawberry and the strawberry con leche. I'm a big strawberry fan, so getting the all strawberry paleta would be the common thing for me to do. But the strawberry con leche looked sooo good! I had to try it! So, I bought the strawberry con leche and it was amazing! The strawberries in the popsicle were frozen, but tasted so fresh. I definitely have/must come back to taste the other flavors! After eating the popsicle, I had a choice. Get another one, but different flavor, or get a triple scoop ice cream. I went for the ice cream. I got three different flavors, chocholate, rainbow sherbet and strawberry. Wow! That chocolate ice cream was deliciously creamy. Loved it! Then I ate the rainbow sherbet. Double WOW! I'm a big fan of rainbow sherbet, and for me, nothing ever came close to the thriftys rainbow sherbet, until now. This place beats it by far! The strawberry wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was surely on the top 5. Three scoops for 4 bucks, best price I've ever had for homemade ice cream. Overall, this is the best ice cream place I've been to. And I've been to many. MANY! It's not in the best location, but definitely worth the stop. Had this place bookmarked for a minute but it wasn't until I happened to be across the street that Paleteria Azteca became a distinct possibility to try. I'm a total novato when it comes to paletas, so I relied on the Mexican in our group to lead us through (of course he went for plain vanilla himself). Paleteria Azteca has a ton of options, more or less split between aguas (water/juice-based) and leches (milk-based). I ended up choosing a tamarind water-based paleta ($2) and I'm so glad I did. Not gonna lie, I don't think I've ever wittingly eaten tamarind before, but I'm here for it after trying this. Refreshing and not overly sweet, this was exactly what I was looking for. My friends got an assortment of offerings- mango, the afore-mentioned vanilla (the lady at the counter gave mi amigo some good-natured crap for his choice and it was hilarious), and an ice cream sandwich. For his part, the Mexican rates this place as a "B+" because it's "new wave" and cart vendor-less, but he agreed that the product was authentic. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be returning to Paleteria Azteca. There are so many options, most if not all tantalizing, and I can't wait to try more. read more

All the rumors are true but it is nothing cozy. No sits no tables, just ice cream and "Paletas!" Many exotic fruits and with fresh slices of fruit. Vegan choices available with no milk. Really delicious w reasonable prices. Actually they do make other type of fruit cocktails with chips too. Parking can get tight but it does open up as it is located right behind Marty's bar. You can taste the FRESH, TASTY, QUALITY ingredients. The paletas aren't overly sweet like some others. We had trouble picking flavors because we wanted to try all of them! At $2 for a water-based and $2.25 for a milk-based paleta, you can't go wrong! Mango chile: really good, loved the mango bits! Coffee: one of my favorites! We've been on a paleta kick lately! Actually we have been for awhile but it's taken us awhile to locate a local paleta shop that we love! Paleteria Azteca has some of the best flavors we've tasted and they have a ton of other stuff on the menu also. Unfortunately we can't speak for anything else but the paletas since we never want to try anything else but one of these days I'm sure we will! We've tried over ten different flavors during our many late night trips there. Some of our favorites are definitely the Passion Fruit with Kiwi, Mango with Chili, Tropical Fruit, and anything thats cream based. There are real chunks of fruit EVERYWHERE which makes it so enjoyable to eat! I especially love their Coffee flavor. I think the prices are pretty reasonable. It's about $0.25-$0.50 cents more expensive than Paleta places in LA but I understand that things are generally a tad more expensive in OC so I'll tolerate that. Their paletas are super amazing! The have dairy and water based ones so there is pretty much something for every person. They also serve ice cream as well. I had their paletas at the chili cook off and it was amazing. My favorite is the horchata one. I also had the coffee one with sliced almonds and it was so good. I took off a star because they only let you sample one flavor for the ice cream. How are you suppose to know what flavor you like by only sampling one? If you are going to limit the sampling, at least make it up to 5 samples so customers can have an idea of what they are going to choose to their satisfaction. Customer service is horrible! We have been coming since they opened. Used to be a really nice and friendly environment. But the last time we came I wasn't very happy with how rude they were and figured maybe it was just me that day. Wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Today I tried to give it another chance and it just made it even a worst experience. Their ice creams are good but I've had better service else where. I'd rather try another place to not have to deal with it again. Unfortunately don't think I will be coming back. Paletas ain't no hipster gelato Pop Bar, people. This mom & pop store hand-makes and cuts their fresh fruits daily and has their milk delivered fresh each morning. They have interesting flavors such as elote, horchata, currant and lime and base their paletas from either water or leche.  I had full expectations that their creme de fresca was going to be overly rich and heavy. It was light, subtle, and was perfectly paired with a tangy zing of strawberries. You can definitely taste the love with every bite. My boyfriend got water-based guava. To our surprise, there was thick chunks of guava, but not overpowering and also tasted less sweet than your typical gelato bar. We were thankful for no sorbitol overkill.  Very few foods elicit nostalgic memories. With the first bite, I was brought back to my days in Chinese school drearily writing my characters, longingly waiting for a break while listening to the paletas cart ring their bells as they made their way through town. Another bite flashed me back to six years serving the children in San Vicente, Mexico and watching them in their dusty, barefoot shoes crowding around paletas carts waiting and hoping for a small nibble of a treat. We got Mangonada, watermelon chili, and strawberry ice cream. All were perfect awesome. A mangonado is frozen mangos, tamarind, and chamoy. It's a sweet fruity spicy mango! You can change the frozen fruit to something else. I think I'll try mint lime, nopales, strawberry, or watermelon. Watermelon chili, so refreshing on a hot day! The chili is not so overpowering where your sweating from the heat. You get a little kick in the end. The strawberry ice cream was the best strawberry ice cream I've ever had. The first time I came here I got a very basic mango popsicle that has so much mango pieces in it! Everything tastes so delicious and refreshing! I've also had the ice cream here and the tropical fruit popsicle. I got the horchata ice cream which tasted very authentic! My coworkers told me about this place and I'm so glad they did. The popsicles here are sooo good!!! I prefer the leche ones over the non-leche because I think they taste better creamy. Oh Paleteria Azteca, where have you been my whole life? As someone who grew up in the Irvine bubble and never experienced Mexican desserts or ice cream this was an eye-opening experience. The paletas or popsicles are made by the staff and not purchased from an outside vendor. I was impressed by the number of flavors and the uniqueness of the flavors- for example, Pico de Gallo, Avocado, and Tamarind - it was like Bertie Botts' Every Flavor Popsicles if you get my Harry Potter reference. I ordered the avocado and the pistachio pops - the pistachio had real pistachio pieces in it, and was flavorful and addictive. The avocado was relatively bland, but both were creamy and enjoyable overall. These were not watery but dense and satisfying treats. I will return! read more
