Somisomi is one of a kind and this location delivered! Each location I've been to is very predictable and thank goodness for that because I hope for a sweet crispy wafer fish and some tasty ice cream, and I get it and I got it at this location! We placed our order on the kiosk iPad, and within minutes, our four orders were ready! And it was just one person working! Very impressive. There's a bit of an island where people can hang out and eat their dessert and the inside was clean. It's definitely a nice spot to grab a sweet treat after lunch or dinner, or if you just want ice cream, this is the place to be! Lots of eateries in this shopping center. Parking can sometimes be tricky because it's a busy eating place but everyone comes and goes, so it moves pretty quick! read more

Somi somi is delicious no matter what location you go!! There's nothing like a hot warm waffle with filling inside. And this time they had banana flavored ice cream!! BANANA is my favorite flavor of ice cream almost every where!! YUM!! And the black sesame they put inside my fish. Drool. I wish I could eat this every day. Well, that was yummy. It was so good, in fact, that I forgot to take a picture of it. I got the taiyaki with red bean filling and the black sesame and ube swirl soft serve. My absolute favorite dessert place ever! The soft serve is the perfect consistency and not too sweet and they have a good amount of toppings but not too many that it is overwhelming. Nutella filled taiyaki is my absolute favorite part and it pairs so well with the soft serve! Service is always quick so don't be discouraged by the long line if there is one. The taiyaki does take a bit longer because they are made to order but I promise it is worth the wait! read more

It was so good - not overly sweet even considering everything in one bite. Am excited to come to this place again! Service is friendly - you get to see them fill and make your fish shaped pastry right in front of you You first order on a tablet and then they start your order. It's really busy at this location because there are so many different restaurants and shopping places near by. Ambiance is casual - no seating inside just places to stand and eat. The frozen yogurt part is the best part of what I got... the strawberry was alright but not the best, and the extra custard I got was a measly little teaspoon or so of custard at the bottom of the cup and also tasted funky. It definitely wasn't worth the extra cost of like $1 or so to add that weird teaspoon of funky custard that I didn't enjoy. The service is okay but not much interaction due to the kiosk ordering and the staff guy that gave me my order was honestly a little rude. The vibe is okay but kind of low end and boring. Came here with my wife and another couple for a casual dessert night and Somi Somi hit the spot. We went with the classic taiyaki waffle cone and chose ube and banana pudding. The balance between the two was surprisingly really good. The banana pudding brought the sweetness while the ube was more subtle and paired perfectly. My wife loved the banana pudding and I was all about the ube. The ice cream itself is super creamy but still light and airy which made it easy to enjoy. I was craving taiyaki so stopped by here on the way home after dinner to get some to go. Parking is always a challenge at the Diamond Jamboree Center. But I didn't give up after circling around a few times. The place was busy and the line was rather long. But I still didn't give up either. :) When I finally got to the front of the line, I ended up ordering five taiyakis to make it worth my time, although I have been trying to cut back on my carbs intake since I had "a bit too much" of buffet dining on my recent trip. Parking a nightmare and service speed a bit slow, but otherwise a lovely Somisomi location. I love their matcha soft serve and their location specific flavor like the strawberry ones they used to carry. The quality of their products are quite consistent and stable. Something I have always admired given the amount of foot traffic they get. But the parking situation gives me a heart attack every single time. So as much as I love this particular location and wouldn't mind visiting more often, it's a hard pass nowadays. Nothing like nearly getting T-boned trying to enter the parking lot corridor by a Ranger Rover driver. read more

I brought my mom to experience soft serve inside the mochi textured fish. Ordering at the kiosk was easy and it was ready for toppings pretty quickly. I noticed that they were preparing the mochi fish ahead of orders and blowing a fan to cool. My mom and I ate it as soon as it was handed to us but the mochi fish wasn't warm, which was disappointing. At the Koreatown location, the mochi fish is made to order (likely because of the crowded and steady flow of customers), and it's served super warm, which is the best part. At this location, there were only a few customers at a time, and the employees kept making batches ahead of orders. While that helps speed up the ordering process, I personally prefer waiting a little longer if it means getting a warm mochi fish. The soft serve is very photogenic and the stand up bench was convenient. read more

Located in the Diamond Jamboree plaza, this place consistently has long lines out the door. I arrived and a person took my order but you have the option of ordering through a kiosk as well. I ordered the upside down Ahboong with the cookies and cream ice cream, oreo cookie crumb topping, macaroon cookie, and the red bean filling taiyaki. Despite the crowd, my order was ready in a few seconds. There's no tables to sit at inside the store but only one long standing counter, but there's seats outside if you'd want to sit. Overall, the ice cream had a good flavor, not too overly sweet despite all the toppings. The ice cream texture is much smoother compared to say like your hand churned ice creams, so really its a preference thing, but I thought it was fine. The red bean taiyaki was good too, but the one I got wasn't as warm as I thought it could have been to really make the dish pop. The great part was that I had enough ice cream left over that I left it in the freezer overnight and it was still delicious the next day. read more

Sooo good and for what! I love taiyaki snd love that there's an assortment of variety to try it here. There's a lot of accommodations they can do for your order like keeping items on the side, individual filling, etc. They have free toppings to choose from and the ice cream flavors are rich and creamy. The taiyaki is made fresh so it is nice and creamy. I can't get over how crispy it is! The staff was efficient and nice. Clean store but only two benches to sit in when you are in store so it will be tight when busy. You pay through their iPads and get a text when it's ready. Love this branch! read more

Great spot for a quick dessert fix. It is located in Diamond Jamboree plaza. We did not have trouble finding parking. There was no indoor seating so it's more of a grab and go type of place. Ordering is done through a screen, and most items come out pretty quickly. If you're getting taiyaki with filling, it can take a bit longer since those are made to order. Once your dessert is ready, they'll call your name and let you choose your toppings. I went with the soft serve and sesame filling--personally, I'd skip the sesame next time, but the soft serve itself was good. read more

Decent! This location has stronger tasting matcha than their other location in diamond jamboree plaza. It was hard to find at first, but their new advertisement banner in one of the wall ways is doing well because after we placed our order via kiosk, there was a super long line behind us! There's also ample space outside to enjoy the nice treat after some shopping at Irvine Spectrum. An order can be 1-2 flavors and up to 1 topping "dusting" and a macaron or strawberry on top for $4.50. What a steal! read more

Your inner child will thank you!I've been away from Orange County for years and returned to find Somisomi! I had no idea it is a chain. It functions like a mom and pop shop. Such a fun dessert place! Taiyaki reminds me of my visit to Japan and I knew I had to have some. I ordered the Upside Down Taiyaki with Ube flavored soft serve topped with fruity pebbles for a colorful crunch and a teeny macaron for a little extra treat. I didn't put any filling in my taiyaki but instead used it to scoop the soft serve. The taiyaki was light and airy while aslo maintaining that crispness. The Ube flavored soft serve is lightly sweet. I stopped by SomiSomi in Irvine for dessert. The taiyaki I got are red bean, black sesame, cheddar, and the limited time Dubai chocolate flavor. The Dubai chocolate costs an extra $1.95 but it was totally worth it. The taiyaki came out warm and crispy on the outside with generous fillings inside. I'd definitely come back to try their ice cream. read more

Excellent dessert spot. I like the takoyaki separate because it comes out hot and delicious. I do succumb and my go-to single order is the upside down takoyaki with the soft serve (it's delicious but the takoyaki fish cools down quickly with the soft serve). This Irvine location is so much better than other locations. The filling is much more filled. I tried their new flavors black sesame and matcha custard and they did NOT disappoint! There was a small handwritten sticky note with an individual's name and phone number for the Zelle payment, which felt a bit odd. To be fair, there wasn't a large selection available when we visited, so it's possible they have other pastries or desserts that are much better than what we tried. However, based on our experience, the item we purchased was disappointing, and the $12 definitely didn't feel well spent. On the positive side, the décor and overall aesthetic were lovely and were probably the bakery's strongest feature. But as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover... and you can't judge a bakery by its ambience either.

I always loved somi-somi, but so far this area is my favorite. Pros: Love how the workers have manners. I remember some people's name since I've been visiting here very often haha. First of all, yooji was making the tayaki. She was the one who was making it and it was in a perfect condition: the texture was chewy, not too sweet and not too uncooked. Also, I forgot this guys name but had U on his name. He was guiding me how to order properly since I've never tried milktea and oreo. He politely asked me if I wanted samples. He took my complicated orders properly ( I ordered like 5 tayaki and 3 different kinds of somi somi icecream). I could tell the somisomi management was great after talkingt to this dude. There is a girl called Jenny and she was making the icecream for me. Her icecream turned out all perfectly good and insta-worthy. It was extremely cute that my siblings were asking to visit again. She also did the toppings,too. I came when it was a busy hour, but she did my icecream fast and without any mistakes. I personally visit this place often because of her haha she is pretty to me. Anyways, there used to be many workers but I am sure that yesterday was the time where only few workers showed up. Usually there is at least 4-5 workers but I only saw three. The icecream is soo soft! I personally recommend getting icecream in a cup with a fish on top due to the weather. For me, I looove the cheese on the tayaki! Cons: Well, I wish they had the stamp card thingy since I have been visiting here a lot. Like maybe it's been atleast 6 times. It would had been nicer if they gave me a stamp card so I can get like a discount or free icecream next time. I love somi somi ahboong and their taiyaiki. I tried since when I was in LA and of course, this place was super good. I loved how they had oreo and milk tea unlike other places, which is a huge thumbs up for me. The place was located next to 85 degree, so it was easy to figure out where it was. This location was pretty good since it is always crowded. I came today when it wasn't busy. I saw 2-3 people working, and they were loud. The girl name Megan was doing the ice cream. She did my toppings, but I noticed that she never asked me for macaron or strawberry. I almost forgot that they had that since she didn't mentioned it. I noticed she sometimes asked to other people, so many didn't even knew they had other toppings like strawberry and macaron. I couldn't ask to give me the macaron because she was talking to another guy. I asked her for another cup, but she ignored me (maybe my voice was not loud enough) and continued to talk to other person. I stayed little bit to finish my ice cream. The place wasn't messy. The only area that make me uncomfortable was located near the topping area. No body was cleaning that part and they were just talking.. Honestly the ice cream was really good, I liked everything but I was just disappointed little bit. I came here with my boyfriend around 8pm on Saturday and it was extremely nice the service was beyond exceptional. Too cute to eat :( It's the perfect instagram or snapchat picture guaranteed. So many people just for an ice cream, but it was worth it in the end. First time visiting Irvine, first time getting somisomi ice cream. My friends all recommended me to this one more than the spectrum since it is faster and have better customer service. I went to spectrum today and it was alright I like their chocolate ice cream. I visited somi somi on saturday around 1pm and it was awfully crowded and busy. I never imagined an ice cream place to be really busy. Cute girls, especially one asian girl with brown hair who did my ice cream. She did really fast and her smile was cute. The cashier was extremely nice, too. she explained the difference between boong and tayaiki. I would visit here again to eat my ice cream. I prefer oreo more than chocolate itself so I think I will go for DJ more than spectrum. Clean, good atmosphere, cute workers, and good service. But bad parking. Instead of going the conventional route and going to yogurtland, we opted to try SOMISOMI. The smell you get when you're walking up the ice cream shop is so yummy! They make the waffle cone things on the spot and you can watch it all happen. The ice cream flavors are unique and tasty! They have ube, milk cream, matcha green tea, black sesame and others I can't remember. There was no line when we ordered but 5 minutes later the entire shop was PACKED! Somisomi always has extremely consistent and delicious ice cream flavors, with my favorites being the matcha and ube flavors. The taiyaki or fish pastries are great compliments to the ice cream, and I highly recommend everyone to do this add on if they're coming here for the first time. Be careful that this spot is extremely popular, but the lines do go pretty quick! The service is always pretty friendly; however, you definitely feel that they are trying to service quickly to accommodate for all of the customers. They gave me one of the serving cups. I would give 5 stars if I could. Their flours wad unique and it goes well with the warm bubbled waffle. . The owner was so welcoming and friendly. I wish they had more people working since there were only three or less people working when it was crowded. otherwise, I think this place will be always my #1 in my heart. The order takers are usually friendly and patient here. They have different flavors for soft serve, styles of the soft serve, and fillings for taiyakis. They also have mostly lactose free flavors. The soft serve is smooth and creamy. I would recommend sharing one order since they give a generous amount. I enjoy the taiyaki waffles the most since these are warm and made fresh. read more

Loved this place! From when we arrived to when we left here was a line out the door, so expect that. It went by fairly quickly plus we did come at night time.The waffle is warm and pressed into a cute design. It's filled (with nutella in my case) to create a better version of the waffle cone that we know and love. PS: The line runs out the door like crazy at night time!! read more

However towards the bottom, the frozen pieces of mango was sour. I think it is possible that this drink was made with pureed mango (that was sweetened) and frozen pieces of mango that was not ripe. I am not sure what the sticky rice taste liked but I am assuming it was all blended together since. The pandan itself was gooey, almost like a soft formed mochi. It was powdery and did not taste good at all. I think this drink would have been much better without (which was swirled and rubbed on the inside of our cups. Service was friendly. I wanted to earn my points for this purchase but had to get onto my Happy Lemon app. But the problem was that the app was making me change my password and verify my email, etc. It was a pain and the girl at the register was patient and told me to take my time since I was struggling to log in (luckily no one was behind us when we ordered). Wait time for our drinks was about 5 minutes after ordering. There is 1 unisex restroom in this tea house but it definitely needed cleaning. It was sweet, crispy, and hot. I'm not in this area a lot, so not sure if ill drive out of my way to come here, but for locals it would be a decent choice.
