Limon ice cream

My favorite little paleteria! So many treats to choose from - it's hard to decide! Absolutely love everything (especially the limon ice cream)! The not so good? Parking is TERRIBLE and they are a bit on the slow side.

Ordered 2 Kids Burger meals and just wtf. Never again. I have ordered from here before and never had this problem. This is sick especially to give to my 3 year old nephew.

Loved this place and I can't wait to go back! I ordered online and it was very efficient and easy. There are things on the menu though that I didn't know what they were and had to look up on Google....I love that. I love authentic Mexican food & this didn't disappoint. I also love that they have fresh fruit, smoothies & fresh fruit/veg juices. I got a large bowl of fresh fruit with whipped cream, raisins & granola and it was fantastic! I will totally get that again and would go just for the fruit! They do have breakfast that I want to go back and try very soon!

Hawaiian Torta

My first visit was for a large refreshing Melon Aguas Frescas, my return visit was a Friday late night for food with a group of 5. The positive food experience was heavily tainted with a system SNAFU that was quite frustrating for our party and everyone else waiting for their order. After 20 minutes they discovered that the orders were not printing to the kitchen and then they were slammed with about 12 orders at once after the situation was fixed. From the first order being placed to the last member of our party receiving their food took over 45 minutes. Staff should have realized this much sooner as they saw people lining up waiting and the visible kitchen staff just standing around. We had actually convinced ourselves that a 2nd kitchen must be in the back and the visible kitchen was for delivery orders only. Maddening. After we finally received the food, all our pent up hostility was soon forgotten. My Hawaiian Torta was huge. A long hoagie bun with a smear of refried beans, a crispy thin fried pork cutlet, ham, cheese, 2 rings of grilled pineapple, tomato, onion and avocado made for a satisfying sandwich. Even better was my elotes cup. A 16 oz. cup filled with about 12 oz. of corn and 4 oz's of white crumbly cheese topped with a thick layer of powdered cheese. Plenty of crema, butter, mayo and hot sauce to give every spoonful full flavor; best Elotes ever. Two co-workers had steak quesadillas and 2 others ordered gorditas and tacos. All items received 2 thumbs up. We braved the ordering system once again for treats. My 3 churros were hot, covered in cinnamon and sugar and served with whipped cream and a cup of drinkable chocolate sauce. A repeat visit is guaranteed, hopefully management will be more observant and hands-on to minimize wait times to earn the 5 stars that the menu and food deserve. P.S. Parking sucks!

Another hidden gem found in the Kansas City area! Growing up in California where Mexican cuisine is king in the states, this place was so nostalgic to me! From the things that I've tried so far, everything was fantastic! The tacos were affordable, packed with flavor and just flat out delicious! The meat to taco ratio was spot on and the tortillas were fresh! The ice cream...lord...the ice cream is one of a kind. The flavors I had were super smooth and very creamy. The young lady working behind the counter was really friendly as well. She did her best to communicate with me and even laughed when I said "gracias". xD If you're in the Independence area or close by and you want some GOOD Mexican snacks, come try this place! It's not going to be your everyday fancy Latin-American restaurant, it's a snack joint, so appreciate it for what it is.

Literally the best elote I've had in a very long time. Huge portions for a great price. Extremely fresh and bold flavors. The food was very fresh and you can watch them cook it in the kitchen. They were very clean and have a huge variety of foods, drinks, snacks and desserts on the menu! Already planning our next trip back!

What do you do on a Friday night when you have 5 teenagers wanting ice cream? There are many options in KC, but after living in a little Hispanic town for many years these teens like genuine Mexican treats. Tonight we found their spot. I ordered Ensalada Hawaiiana and when I first tasted the smooth fresh homemade whipped cream I was instantly happy. This place has a huge menu of sweets! They also have food. Tonight we only got a bunch of sweet stuff so my rating is all about the sweets. I plan to go back for the food.

I've wanted to try this for awhile. Why not the day that it snowed?! I got 1 scoop pistachio & 1 coconut! OMG, it is SO GOOD and fresh!!

Fruit was fresh and tasty with granola on top. Super disappointed in the elote (street corn). I'm pretty sure they literally dumped a full can of canned corn into a styrofoam cup and topped it with cheese and too much cayenne pepper. Flavor was bad and it was watery. Tacos doradas was OK. Not actually tacos but instead they were deep fried like a flauta or taquito so that was confusing.

I have been here twice and I'm hooked this place is so good ! I have the steak Gorditas and I've had the carna asada tacos and two of the fruit drinks one with the mango spicy ( I don't know what it's called but it was delicious) and the other one I had was strawberry ! The lady that helped me was Very friendly and helpful ! Will definitely be back !

Great little hidden gem in Independence. They make there own ice cream and have around 20-25 flavors at a time and most are unique. Food is always great and hot when it comes out. Al the food has an authentic feel and better than any chain restaurant hands down everyday. All the locals go there and you know it is good when that happens. Staff is always friendly and has a smile when your talking with them. The place recently knocked out the adjoining wall and expanded where you can see the kitchen and everything being made. They have a nice salsa bar on the side to top everything you need with limes and hot sauce. They have street/snack food you would find in Mexico and also normal meals you would find in Mexico and Central America. Gorditas are some of my favorite there but honestly, all the food is good. On the ice cream, be careful before you get more than a small, it is the size of a double/triple at most places. Worth every penny.

After seeing pictures on FB, I was super excited to try some tacos here. As a self proclaimed taco connoisseur, I have to say it was underwhelming. I tried a couple of tacos and a couple sopas. The meat choices were a little limited compared to places I normally go. Steak, marinated pork, chicken, and chorizo and that is it. I tried the steak and the pork. Both were lacking in flavor. The pork appeared to be a attempt at al pastor, but just didn't live up to a good al pastor. The sopas were good, good flavor on the crust, good mix of ingredients in the perfect quantities, but the meat just falls short. I'm guessing the real world here would be the sweet treats. I had too bring food home and had no room to try any. I would go back to try some ice cream or one of the amazing fruit concoctions. I would even eat the other items again, just wouldn't be my go to for great tacos. Maybe even a torta is in my future if I return here. Service was friendly. Price was definitely right as you will find in most places like this. Parking is limited (may have been additional parking in the back) and can be tough to back out with traffic backing up from the stop sign. Give it a try. There no such thing as a bad taco (except Mama Tio's in downtown KCMO), just if you are use to KCK our Independence Ave taco places, you will not be raving.

Opened it up and it looked like the tamale had exploded in fear. Presentation? Looks like someone sat on it. I came hungry. I left emotionally damaged. Get your act together. I seated myself without acknowledgment, I was given a bowl of chips without salsa and not told of the self serve sauce table - I figured that out after eating dry chips for a few minutes. I got nothing but shrugs when I questioned the food, was never given follow up service and I had to ask how to pay my bill and exit. It was one of the few times I wanted to leave $0 for a tip but I resisted and played nice. There was not a language barrier either to explain the lack of attention, my waitress spoke perfect English. As for the food; I ordered a zucchini and a cheese pupusa. The pupusas were grilled well and not too doughy with plenty of filling but the curtido or sad excuse for curtido absolutely proved to me that the back end didn't care just as much as the front end of the restaurant. They gave me a small bowl of freshly poured shredded cabbage out of a bag. I kid you not! No vinegar, no added onions or carrots... no cooking, no pickling, no aging; just shredded raw cabbage! The honorable nation of Guatemala should send an envoy to rip the Guatemalan flags off the walls so they are not associated with such an affront to Central American cuisine.
