We stopped in for the unique Sunday Bottomless Brunch. Everything on the brunch menu is available and freshly made plate by plate upon order. Each selection ordered was delicious! We tried several items. The street corn came on the cob (maybe 1/3 of cobb). It was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. The monkey bread was perfectly moist and not overly sweet. The shrimp and grits was delicious...generous sized perfectly cooked shrimp and cheesy bacon grits. The churros were perfectly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside and generously coated in cinnamon sugar with chocolate and caramel dipping sauce. The pork and shrimp lumpias were flavorful, cooked perfectly and generously filled. A taco bar and waffle station are also offered. The waffle was cooked perfectly and many toppings are available including fruit. The taco bar included meat selections of beef, chicken and al pastor and a variety of toppings. The tortillas were soft and warm and the meat was perfectly flavored. We didn't have room to try the crispy brussel sprouts or a few other dishes we had wanted to try...but will definitely try them next time we visit the DC area. Oh, a great bonus was that a variety of mimosas are only $1 for the first hour after the brunch opens. Our server Renee was amazingly kind and efficient. I want to preface this review by stating that this restaurant could easily be 5 stars for someone else. While I enjoyed most of the food that I was able to eat, the menu didn't have the variety of breakfast dishes that I typically like to see on a brunch menu. It seemed more like a glorified version of their dinner menu. Most of their brunch specialty dishes contain pork. I really enjoyed the monkey bread & the French toast sticks. The curry chicken empanadas and the spicy chili crisp fried chicken sliders were great eats as well. There's also a waffle bar & a taco bar that you're able to walk up to as a part of their bottomless brunch. Service was good, too. Ordered the curry chicken empanadas, & they forgot to bring them out. But once reminded, our server had an order brought over to the table within a few minutes. My husband and I came to Palette 22, located in Shirlington, on a Saturday during brunch time. When we arrived, the restaurant looked packed, but we were seated immediately. The ambiance was artsy, from the lighting fixtures to the local artwork displayed and for sale throughout the restaurant, which I enjoyed looking at. There was a vibrant yet sophisticated crowd. Our waiter was gregarious and professional. He explained the bottomless brunch to us. My diet is limited, and my husband nor I planned to eat a lot, so we just went with several small plates. Our food came out fast and hot. I had the Brussel sprouts and southwest Caesar salad. Both dishes were flavorful and very filling. My husband had the French toast and chicken sliders, and he was pleased with his food. We ended with the Churros, they were sooo good. Really fun and unique breakfast spot. It is a tapas place which I enjoyed but this does mean that things come as they are ready rather than all at the same time. The portion sizes are small so you can get a bunch of things and share which makes it filling and the prices are super reasonable. Flavor combinations are unique and everything tastes so good. I think the churros were my favorite, so crispy and sugary with a great sauce. I was a little disappointed about the pork biscuit because it didn't quite match my expectations but it was delicious. The biscuit was more of a flat bread and it wasn't a sandwich because it was open faced. I think that's the challenge with fusion food, it is a little different than expected. If you can be open minded it's great. The last thing I'll say is they didn't do a great job of organizing the seating. There was a group of 3 seated at the only 6 person table but there were a ton of 4 person tables that were empty. My group of 7 had to wait for the 3 to be done before we could sit even though a ton of tables were open. I would go back for sure. read more

Very scummy business practices going on here. After being told there's no 1800 (the cheapest tequila I could think of), I just told them to give me whatever their cheapest tequila is. Any bartender with a moral compass would've told me they don't sell cheap shots here. Five not so generous single shot tequilas later I'm handed an almost $300 dollar bill for what looks to be their most expensive tequila (1942). For $300 I could've bought five of the biggest bottles of 1800 my local ABC sells. The only thing running through my brain is how the bill could've been an upwards of $700 if I had offered to buy my group a second round. What a nightmare going here was. Last time I'll ever come by Palette 22, not even 10 minutes south in old town you can get all the same for $200 cheaper with far better service. $50 for a splash of tequila in a warm shot glass is criminal. read more

This place just became one of my favorites in DC...the Chef is literally a God! I tried basically their whole menu for an event, and the way they balance spices and ingredients, as well as the combination of specific cooking techniques is soo soo delicate. I almost still feel the velvety and soft texture of the dishes in my mouth. Ingredients were so skillfully and creatively combined and harmoniously merged, that I'm not even sure if what was so smooth was texture or flavor. None of the dishes is less than excellent, which is rare to find! The ambience is so inspiring, full of art by local artists, which offers such a lively and intense touch to the rooms. Whether you're there with friends or on a date (and even on your own!), you'd be full of inspiration for your interaction, just by looking around. Lol So, we started our journey to gluttony with the waffles and tacos, which are prepared via the waffle and taco cart. The batter for the waffles was simply divine. Then to add the additional toppings for the waffle WITH THE blueberry jam/syrup mixture (don't know what it was called)... My taste buds were over the moon! Then we had the tacos, which were great. We happened to pass by and saw they had outdoor seating. Since we had a dog, we decided to take a chance and sit down. This is a great concept -- international tapas. We had only planned on getting one or two plates between us (2 people), but we decided to try the unlimited lunch for $28. We ordered more than we had intended, but we definitely got our money's worth. We got eight dishes total plus dessert. I've been to this location 4 times, the last time was for my birthday in January. I'm late posting my reviews, but they're coming. We love this place. However, on our last visit, my baby sister found a rubber band in her slider. The server seemed very familiar with the type of band, but when the manager came over, he was almost accusatory, indicating that he looked in the kitchen and it didn't look like anything they use. There was some back and forth banter, but he was still very inappropriate and very accusatory. I don't remember his exact words, but I remember how we all felt when we were leaving. He did comp my sister's meal, but his response was not okay. We frequent a LOT of restaurants and we tip well. His comments will keep us from going back to this location. read more

Today was my third time coming here for their bottomless brunch, and I think it solidified Palette 22 as my favorite brunch spot. I love the option to try so many different things, and it's the perfect place to bring people who visit me from out of town. I've tried most of the menu at this point, and I don't think I've been disappointed in anything. Some of my favorites are the arroz frito con huevos, the shrimp and pork lumpias, the fried chicken sliders, and the churros. They also have some of the best bloody Marys in my opinion. In addition to the delicious food, the overall ambiance is really great. I love watching the artists paint, and the art work is all so gorgeous and unique. I've sat both in and outside, and both have their benefits. Finally, the service is always on point. It has been packed every time I've been there (so reservations are definitely recommended), but the food comes out quickly, the servers check in frequently, and they clear the finished plates quickly as well. I've gone here twice so far for their brunch all you can eat and I love their variety of food. I think next time I'll try to just order off the menu a la carte instead of the all you can eat. I don't eat that much and it ends up evening out or I feel really full afterwards. Despite it having the all you can eat option, I don't think the quality of the food goes down at all. It is a bit of a wait, but I don't mind. They have a taco bar where you can watch someone cook the meat while you pick what you want. I also thought it was a nice touch that they have a doggie menu. It was a little expensive for what it was but I thought it was cute that my dog could partake in brunch with us. The fact that they are so dog friendly makes me happy but beware of other dogs around who will be barking nonstop. read more
