We so enjoyed our dinner at Palette on a cold winter day. I was really hungry for a scratch meal, and Palette did not disappoint. We arrived a few minutes after they opened at 5:00, and the bar was popping while the restaurant was filling. We later learned that the bar is the only place where customers get happy hour prices. We were seated right by the window overlooking the water, so we were able to watch the sunset. The setting alone makes Palette special. We were welcomed with homemade white bread with Fustini's balsamic vinegar. The dipping vinegar was excellent, although I'm not sure how many people want to be eating white bread. A rye, sourdough, or wheat bread would be healthier and more appealing to the health conscious foodies. For dinner, I had a Palette salad (mixed local greens, feta, almonds, pickled red onion, strawberry-balsamic) and a large bowl of forest floor soup. The mushroom soup was earthy, rich, and creamy.... absolutely decadent and soul warming. The salad was a nice balance between savory and sweet. My husband had seafood paella. It was one note, so I'd say good but not excellent. We ended the meal with creme brulee. It was a perfectly lightly sweet end to our meal, although I avoided eating the burnt edges. Overall, we had an excellent time at Palette Bistro. The food was good and we enjoyed the view. Highly recommended stop if you are in Petoskey. read more

very disappointed how we were treated with regard to our reservation. terrible customer service. we had 6 friends visiting from out of town and we specifically made reservations in advance to sit upstairs/outside. when we arrived we were told they could not honor our reservation as they had a private party upstairs. we were given the choice to sit outside on the patio with a make shift table set up. rain started right before we were served dinner and we needed to move inside and only seating option was in the bar with a bunch of circular high top tables set together. very uncomfortable. situation and disappointment could have been avoided by simply taking the time to call us and explain that they took a reservation that they could not honor and would need to change. giving the customer a heads up and the chance to make a decision. no apology was even given. now with that said our waiter was very good. food was good. management needs improving. read more

Before you read this just know that I have been in the restaurant industry for 7 years. From the tacky "Wine Guys Restaurant Group" wine glasses to our server not paying attention to us, I was very disappointed. Petoskey is a rich town full of wonderful people but Palette Bistro represented everything but this. The menu is all over the place having seafood, steak, paella, and no starters just small plates and large. Small plates would be tapas and this wasn't tapas. When we sat down we got bread right away which was nice however after we ran out of olive oil that was it for the bread. Again the service was absolutely terrible. I had the margarita pizza which id rather have a digornio pizza in replacement for. It was a crunchy mess that tasted overcooked. My short rib was absolutely incredible! Complements to the chef! Wineglasses were gross and smudged. OVERALL... this place needs to be closed as soon as possible and revamped. Especially for a restaurant group having multiple concepts, I don't care if this is a small town, absolutely atrocious. KEY LIME PIE AND CRÈME BRULE WAS AMAZING!!!! Love you all. As fan paella this restaurant was on our list to go to during a very busy weekend at the end of summer. The place was packed. The service was slower than desired. Nice wine list but not very extensive. We had a little hiccup with the seafood paella but it was replaced (took a while but they remade it for us) immediately. Environment was noisy which limited some conversation. Overall I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. read more

My waiter was wonderful, and the food was plated beautifully. However all of my food arrived cold, including my coffee. As it is french press this also meant it was weak. I was in a rush to get back on the road in time to get to work and very hungry, otherwise I would have asked for them to remake it. Eggs Benedict need to be served hot and fresh, otherwise a wonderful meal is ruined. Let me start by saying that this restaurant should not advertise Happy Hour as they do. Unless you get a beer or wine you might be okay with Happy Hour drink prices. Any type of mixed cocktail is lacking in alcohol. My drink I ordered, a cosmopolitan was heavy on lime juice and it tasted like it had a thimble full of alcohol. The mushtoom soup that everyone raves about was watery and lacking in flavor. Caesar Salad had a pre made dressing that was not a Caesar salad dressing I have ever tasted. Margherite Pizza was burnt, no fresh mozzarella, and tasted like it was bought at the grocery store. read more

We arrived early for our reservation and when we were eventually lead to our table 15 min later, there seemed to be an abundance of tables. Of the three entrees, only one of them (the duck) was acceptable but was slightly above average at that. The margherita pizza and paella were so unbelievably salty that it burned my tongue to eat. Would not recommend. Ambiance: 4/5 The whole vibe of the restaurant is really nice and they have these gigantic windows at the front that overlook the bay. It's especially beautiful at sunset. Omg this is an incredible place! We accidentally stumbled across it when we couldn't get into the Twisted Olive next door because their kitchen was so backed up. I am so happy we came here because this is the best meal we've had in Petoskey since arriving here 3 days ago! Ciara was our server and she was awesome! I did the half turkey sandwich and the half roasted chicken salad and now I wish I would've done a full on either the salad or sandwich because it was so delicious! Chose this place for Saturday brunch because they offered both brunch and lunch options. We had both herbivores and omnivores with us. They took reservations, but we didn't need them. The seating options are great: outdoor patio or inside and the back has beautiful views of the lake. Sadly, the menu had only one vegan option that wasn't a salad. The quinoa burger was just okay. The other folks in our party got the mahi sandwich and the other salmon salad. Everything was unanimously just okay. Due to limited options on vegan food we won't be back. read more

The food at this restaurant is mostly delicious, but the value for the money is not good, and I'm not one of those big all-you-can-eat buffet type of goomers. (I have 50 years of fine dining experience.) The hostess needs some basic training in manners, so that she could perhaps add "please" instead of just saying "follow me" to the table. The homemade mushroom soup was delicious. However, the cup of soup and bowl of soup are not more than one or two ounces different in volume. The soup bowl has a great big wide lip around it, and the volume of actual soup in it is maybe one or two ounces more than the cup, which is five dollars less. Maybe that's why the waitress suggested this rip-off. Some of the entrées are a good portion size for a pre-adolescent or a little old lady, but not for most people between age 14 and 70 or 75. The walleye tasted good, but there were no more than seven or eight bites in the whole portion! It was only accompanied by some risotto that had a few peas in it, and a small pile of arugula, and nothing else. I don't know how they can masquerade this as being in the "Large Plate" menu category because it was clearly served on a small plate - a little hors d'oeuvre size plate. Such audacity the restaurant has to pull this bait-and-switch! The salmon, however, was sufficient size for most adults. So best advice to you if you want to waste money at this extremely noisy restaurant is to ask your waitperson specific questions about the size of the portion of each entrée you are considering ordering, because some of them are just little snacks that will leave you very unsatisfied if you're more than just a little bit hungry. Our waitress was nice, but not particularly attentive. Our food was brought to the table by some guy we hadn't seen before. Although they have some delicious food, this is far from being a highly recommended restaurant. read more

Here on a Sunday night..... before a surgery tomorrow....and their wine list looked great but not for me tonite....wife had scallops, small plate 2 large very good and well cooked/,seared right and the butternut squash soup, quite good as well, we split a Margherita pizza thin crust crispy very good , and I had a forest floor mushroom soup (I would return just for the soups!!) and a Caesar salad which was well dressed and tasty but a little on the small side, wife finished w a cocktail and a key lime cheesecake which she swooned while eating. Superb service. Even better food. Our waiter gave us perfect recommendations and we didn't leave a single crumb. We got the pork belly appetizer- melted in our mouths. I opted for the duck. I am weirdly critical of duck since I spent four years in New Orleans and they had duck on almost every menu there. The duck at Palette was top 5. So so good. Amazing meal! We enjoyed dinner in one of the outdoors Eskimo tents. There is a heater inside, and it was very cozy with a warm sweater on, even with the outside temp around 20F. Cliff was our waiter - he was amazing! Great personality, recommendations, and he made our dessert drinks which were out of this world!! Best Irish coffee outside of Ireland. We loved every bite of the food, every sip of the wine, and can't wait to come back for more. Thanks Cliff for making our night awesome! read more

Happy Hour with a grande view of Little Traverse Bay! We are from Ohio and not knowing the area very much. On a Sunday afternoon when most of the restaurants in Petoskey were closed, we magically found this place for an early dinner or Happy Hour. The complementary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was fantastic. Couple of microbrews were also surprisingly good. We had to order a second run. The scallops were very good but the couscous was extremely bland and dry. I couldn't imagine paying $26 (regular price) for that plate. We also got the mussels. The bread was extremely burnt, black crumbs is all you tasted, while the rest of the plate was a soupy mess of mussels and broken shells. Our total was $87 after tip. And I give the soup and service 5 stars but main entree was not edible. They seemed fine with the fact we didn't eat our 2 entrees. And offered nothing to compensate. This dining experience was a delight from start to finish! A lovely casual atmosphere with ambient music that wasn't overpowering. Service was on point with Kacie. We happened to hit happy hour (4-6) so drinks were only $4! Everything was delicious! Not pictured are the mushroom soup and margarita pizza. The soup was truly memorable and amazing.
