After having lunch at Lido Cafe (in Carmichael), I noticed the Palette Cakes shopfront. It was a couple of shopfronts over in the same nondescript shopping plaza as Lido. I beelined it over there to check them out. Why? Because I do luv a good bakery. As I walked into the shop, there was a gentleman at the counter. He turned out to be the owner, Carlos. Him and his wife own the shop which they opened about a year ago. She's the baker. Their speciality is custom order cakes. Gorgeous, sophistically designed cakes. But they are not a one trick pony. No sirree. They also sold cupcakes, trifles, cream puffs, and tarts. They were all sitting pretty looking divinely delicious in a refrigerated counter. I bought two cupcakes. One was a honey roasted peanut butter on chocolate cupcake and the other I forgot the name of. But it was a chocolate cupcake of some sort with a vanilla type of cream frosting. Those were $4.50 a piece. Carlos told me the cupcakes are cold but best eaten about 40 minutes to a hour at room temp. Sorry to say I had no will power to wait that long. They both got devoured shortly after I got back to my car. Even without the wait, it was delicious. Moist, flavorful cake. The frosting was delicious and piped on perfectly. The Velasquezes own and operate this great shop with not only beautiful, but tasty desserts. They were so friendly and helpful. I asked them to give me three of their favorite desserts to take to my brunch. The desserts did not disappoint. We had a mini cheesecake, mini lemon tart and a vanilla creme puff. I was able to get an oatmeal white chocolate cookie, peanut butter cookie, apple spice with cream cheese cupcake and Oreo cream puff. All were delicious. The cookies had the best texture, crispy outer edges, and soft light interior. The perfect cookies. The cream cheese frosting was decadent and the cupcake had a wonderful butter flavor to it that was rich and dreamy without filling dense and/or dry. We chose Kellie at Palette Cakes as the dessert vendor (dessert bar and wedding cake) for our wedding at Park Winters, and we are so happy we did. 11/10 experience all around. Of all the cake flavors we tested, honey-roasted PB & Choc was my second pick, his first pick. My first pick was her Almond Apricot. We ended up getting both flavors, one for each tier. The dessert table was the talk of the town. We had mini: cheesecakes, lemon meringue tarts, cream puffs (with a delectable caramelized sugar top), and vegan berry tarts. I wanted to surprise my groom on our special day with some tasty getting ready treats, and Kellie was able to coordinate with me and my planner to get some of her amazing cookies in the suite for my groom and his party to enjoy. Her crazy cornflake cookies are divine. Our wedding cake was so beautiful! We wanted a simple clean design with some gold trimming and she nailed it. She was open in communication the entire time and super responsive. The handmade sugar flowers were beyond my expectations. They were so realistic, our guests couldn't understand why I dove right in for a bite! We are coming up on our 1-year anniversary and instead of thawing out a year-old tier of cake (we decided to pass on that tradition), we are getting fresh mini versions of our wedding cake and some of those unforgettable mini desserts!
