My friend ordered the Mr. Mango (vanilla cake filled with mango custard topped with mango cream cheese frosting), and I got the Illegally Blonde (vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream). I forgot what my third friend ordered, but she said it was good LOL. The flavor's pretty solid, there's a LOT of frosting and it's very solidified. I decided to pop by on a Monday afternoon because I was in the area and got some red velvet cupcakes. They have regular sized cupcakes as well as mini ones and I got both. The regular sized one was $3.75 and the mini ones are $1.50. After trying the cupcake, I will have to admit that I felt a bit underwhelmed overall. Flavor wise, I think it was pretty good. Their frosting isn't overly sweet and there is a lightness to it which seems unique because typically cream cheese frosting on red velvet cakes are quite thick. The cake itself had a notable chocolate flavor but it was a tad bit on the dry side. Very happy with my custom cake and some cupcakes I added on! I really feel like the price matched the quality for my experience. I got a custom 6" cake for ten people and simply asked for bees and honey drips made from frosting. I left the rest to them and they delivered a very cute cake! I added my own cake topper and candles and it was perfect for the event. The 6" definitely fed all 10 of us, plus we had almost half a cake for the next day. Loved that! The birthday boy loves peanut butter and chocolate more than anything so we got the "Love at First Bite" and wow!!! It was so moist and SO delicious. Cut really beautifully, too! Now, Alyssa is my go-to baker for any special-occasion cake. She is extremely professional, organized, hardworking, and creative. A true artist, I think Alyssa works best when you aren't too specific with what you want, which allows her creative freedom. After finding out about Let Them Eat Cake, I'm not sure I can find anything better. Right next to Central Park, Let Them Eat Cake has a very simple, unsuspecting exterior. But, upon walking in you're greeted by a beautifully decorated interior and very kind employees. The cupcakes themselves are probably the best cupcakes I've ever had. Of their staple cupcakes, I'm a huge fan of the Down By The Sea and Illegally Blonde. The cupcakes are moist and flavorful. The vegan cupcakes are indiscernible from the traditional ones, meaning they're just as good. Additionally, their vegan cupcakes are made with soy, so if you have a tree nut allergy this place is still allergen-friendly (but be careful of cross contamination). For me, the biggest appeal is their weekly flavors. They have a huge list of cupcake flavors on their website and each week they put out five different flavors (along with the staples: Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet, and Caramel). It's so fun being able to walk in every week and try their new flavors, knowing that each one is going to be so tasty. Overall, Let Them Eat Cake might just be my favorite place in Davis. I found this establishment by searching "gluten free" on yelp. I drove over, expecting to see one or maybe two dry, old treats like other bakeries that have gluten free "options". I was in for a massively pleasant surprise. I only saw gluten free macaroons in the case, so I asked about cupcakes. The person who was waiting on me started listing off about 10 different flavors to choose from. I was shocked. I had her flip the menu around to read it and chose 3. They keep them in the freezer, and she made sure they were packaged separately for me and away from the other treats I got for my family that do not have allergies. The woman that served me was incredibly pleasant and informative. There are so many intricate flavors, ranging from spiced eggnog, a stout chocolate, and some type of frosted cranberry. It was very hard to choose. In the end I got three GF cupcakes for myself, three regular cupcakes for my family, and a big cookie. There was a separate fridge that had big slices of cake, cheesecake, and other treats. Many options were vegan. They offer ready made cakes, which were absolutely GORGEOUS and very nicely priced for what they are offering. You can also order a custom cake in advance. There were also ready to go boxes of gingerbread or sugar cookie house kits, that included the cookie parts, icing, and little sprinkles to decorate. Overall, I would reccomend this place to anyone, whether you have a dietary restriction (vegan, gluten free) or don't and just love cake and treats! It's right next to Davis Central Park, it's a cute little boutique look shop . The girls that work there are super nice and always answer every questions we had. I bought their vegan S'mores cupcake to go ($3.25). It turned out to be very good. Good texture, fresh, and with a decadent topping (which is what a cupcake is all about). I don't normally go for very sweet cakes, and although the topping was sweet I found it to be nicely balanced. Baked fresh, no preservatives, gluten-free also available (and gluten-free + vegan together). Recommended. I'm also giving Let Them Eat Cake 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * They have vegan offerings that are well-made. * The chap was going to pack my cupcake into a plastic clamshell until I said I'd just take it as-is. I used to live in Davis and loved visiting this bakery for their delicious cupcakes and cookies. When we were looking for a bakery for our wedding cake, we noticed that most bakeries didn't have a lot of flavor options like Let Them Eat Cake does. I was so excited that this bakery was in range of our wedding venue. I communicated with Alyssa via email and discussed what we were looking for in our wedding cake. I'm going to have to check this place out in person because based on the quality of the baked goods I've had at several events around town they make delicious and beautiful cookies and cupcakes.
