I needed a special bolt thing for my vintage Corvette so I could attach a custom front plate and needed it quick (rather than purchasing online). This was my first time at Ace Hardware as I usually (and begrudgingly) shop at Lowe's, but was advised by a friend that I'd have better luck here. I appreciated the smaller, cozier feel and was even able to find the aisle with bolts myself - but one entire side of the aisle was drawers and drawers of a gazillion bolts and screws. I was able to find a staff member to help me pretty quickly, and he set about looking for a match. It took him about 10 minutes but he did find a match, and then apologized for taking so long. I was overjoyed and said you're amazing! No way would I have found that little piece of metal by myself. I paid my 3 bucks and went on my way. I will definitely turn to Ace Hardware first for all my weird little hardware needs! read more

So sad to see the retail response to assuming a theft problem. After I figured out how to park here no thanks to my GPS, I entered and was disappointed in selection and quality offered for what I was looking for, kind of junky stuff. Well they know their customers needs I guess. I went to leave only to find no escape as exit door was barricaded off with the only exit option was a narrow railed in checkout line with 20 people in it with stuff they were buying. One guy noticed I want to leave and he just laughed. I had to stand by the entry door waiting for someone to enter so I could escape. Never seen anything like that before. So I got to my car and ordered what I needed on Amazon and it arrived 20 hours later at my door free shipping. Sorry for the poor review but this was a really bad shopping experience. Bad location, poor offering, and a roach motel for exiting customers. read more

I stopped in to buy a bbq. There were a lot people working. I asked where the bbq's were and they began calling around. With me connected up to someone that could help me, we went to a computer and looked at the selection. There were only 3 in stock, only one was charcoal. Yet, the basic Weber that has a shelf cart attached was $550. For a basic Weber? Needless to say, I drove over to a competitor and picked one up for less. (I don't list other businesses in my reviews, don't feel right to me.) I didn't look at anything else, but I imagine this is a great local hardware store, which it's awesome to have around. This store is amazing. Not just for an "Ace", but for any store. It is very clean, very well organized, and very well stocked. And the myriad of people who work there are uber helpful. I received help from 4 different employees - and they were all very knowledgeable and helpful. The person that was mixing Benjamin Moore paint samples for me saw that I had pool rafts in my cart and let me know that they could blow those up for me. This place is great! read more

I came in around closing time needing help getting the parts needed to install a front license plate on a new vehicle. I was pleasantly surprised by how helpful Jeremy was with helping me find the right hardware and even assisting with the drilling and installation. I love Ace Hardware stores but the manager/owner of this one is the worst, I'd drive to avoid this one. I placed an online order for pickup and hours later hadn't heard anything, so I called and they said they couldn't find that I'd placed the order. Once they involved the manager things went downhill from there. He was unresponsive and unhelpful, and told me I had to come in and show proof of payment before my husband could pick it up (mind you I'm in Joshua Tree). It had charged to my card immediately when I placed the order but of course was pending, but he insisted it wasn't showing in their system and we'd have to prove it. So I sent my husband screen shots of everything I'd received when I placed the order, etc. and when he went in to straighten it all out, the manager was even more unprofessional! He wouldn't even come around the maze of shelves they have created to get to the registers to look at the proof my husband had. He just turned around and walked off without saying anything. The gal behind the register told my husband that he must've gone to look for it or to get that the item. When he did come back, he walked right by my husband, went up to this little podium, and started typing on his computer without saying anything at all. And then, when my husband started to leave with it, he said he had to check more things. Right at that moment, a store employee who I had spoken with earlier, came walking up holding a piece of paper and said they'd found the order. That "manager" wasn't managing anything except his terrible patronizing unprofessional attitude. I'll go to any other Ace but never this location again! read more

I bought a barbecue and when it was supposed to be delivered I found out it was no longer available. The manager of the Ace store in Palm Desert went above and beyond to get me my barbecue that day. She upgraded me at no cost. The driver came out with the person from the store that sold me the barbecue to make sure everything was perfect.Everybody at that store was absolutely amazing I have the best Weber barbecue thanks to this ace hardware store and all their employees I won't go anywhere else for any of my needs. Ace hardware beats Home Depot and Lowe's. Their sales people are extremely qualified and they walk up to you and ask if they can help, you don't have to search the aisles for help like in the other two stores. Poor customer service, in all my years of life, I have never. I miraculously ordered an item online for in-store pickup at Ace Hardware, but corporate sent the wrong item. I get it, not their Palm Desert staffs' fault. But they were very rude about it and were no help at all. Their solution was for me to cancel and refund the order. Oh but these clowns cant even do it because the lady in charge of that wasn't in. How about you guys try getting the right order next time instead of putting the burden on this old fart of trying to use the internet to order it again!? How does that even make sense? Spencer in the Key Department saved me $250!!! He is a GENIUS. Somehow he made my good and bad car key into 2 NEW *working* and fully programmed car keys - and it was only $30! The Jeep dealer wanted $250 for just ONE new key. Ask for him to help you with car key problems bc this guy KNOWS what he is doing. I know it was a complicated process and I am super impressed! So I walk in with my friend to find the roller piece for the top of a sliding door. Spoke with multiple employees who were trying to help us, although not particularly knowledgeable. 4 people helped us with no answer. Then it happened... I had to ask the price of a cordless drill. The cute little elderly woman didn't know so asked for help in our aisle. Here comes this heavyset guy wearing glasses. Describing him because I didn't get his name. I asked for the price and then he advised of it. I consulted with my friend. The guy then says, "you know you can't use it right away." I respond, "ummmm yeah it needs to be charged." Then he says, "you need to buy the drill bits for it." I asked, "doesn't it come with Phillips and flathead bits?" Him, "yes it does but..." Me, "yup that's all I need." He gives me a dirty look as I walk away. He was rude and condescending. This is not customer service. This company has been around for decades, so they must be making sales to stay in business. I think I was the only person in the store on this particular day. I came in looking for a certain type of battery for the Christmas bottles I was lighting up. So, the battery can fit inside a hearing aid as well. I had been to Wal Mart several times to look for the battery's but was disappointed that they were always out of stock. True Value carried them in a pack of 3 which is what I needed. Problem was, they were expensive. With a craft fair coming up, I had to illuninate this bottle, so I bought one set. So, a few days later I said to myself, self why don't you go to Wal Mart dot com? So I did. Guess what??? The battery's I needed were found! Wait for it~~~~~~~~~ I scored a pack of FIFTY 5 TO THE 0!!! The price? WAIT FOR IT ~~~~~ $ 8 dollars and change AND FREE SHIPPING!! They referred us to a place that might have it. They get an extra star for carry filters that fit my older-model DustBuster. Yes they have tons of stuff you may need, but neither myself nor the gentleman next to me (who had been there longer than I) could get any help in Hardware. If you aren't use to the store or a "handyman" proper sizing can be confusing. I thought Ace was the Helpful Hardware Store. Why couldn't we get any help? This is a great store because not only do they have a huge inventory, bit there are lots of sales associates that are willing and able to help you. Not like the other giant warehouse store where I stood for fifteen minutes and did not see one sales person and finally had to use my phone to call for someone to help me and after 6 more minutes no one came. I used to go here often, the staff was always pleasant and helpful. Since it's a pet-friendly store I took my dog a couple times, no issues until recently. On a recent visit to the store, staff were looking at my dog and I in a very unwelcome manner. My puppy is now full grown, she's a good girl, I always keep her close to me, she doesn't bark and she's very calm in stores. The store was busy the day we frequented so there was a lot of activity and people moving around. We meandered through the store, got what we needed and went to stand in line to check out. As the lady in front of us was called to the next cashier we stand there waiting. An available cashier was looking at us but didn't call us over immediately. I didn't think that was unusual, perhaps she had something else to do and was going to close the checkout lane. Then we made eye contact again and she said "I can help you if your dog isn't going to jump on the counter" I said "she doesn't do that" she motioned for us to approach the counter and helped us, while the customer next to us mentioned what a good girl my dog was. If your store is pet-friendly, which Ace is, then you should expect people to come in with their dogs and that should not change the way you treat your customers. I had been to the store with my dog before and everyone was pleasant. Now something was different, I don't know if the cashier had a bad experience with another dog but that isn't my dogs' fault. Quite honestly my dog is better behaved then most children. I have started to go to a different local hardware store that recently opened. The were "Truly" service-oriented, treated myself and my dog respectfully and even helped me to my car with my purchases. So happy to have found a new hardware store that I can comfortably visit with my dog. read more

Ok so I go here about every week lived here 20 yrs always helpful so today very surprised to have a real bad experience.... Won't mention the staff member by name but he was very bothered I asked for help why he was stocking the shelves.... In fact all the help in there was stocking the damn shelves! Really... don't you stock off hours??? I love supporting locally owned and operated stores like this one. The big corporate stores don't have anything I can't get here, plus the people at ACE know their products. I can describe my project and before I am done talking the guy will be taking me to the right section of the right aisle. To end the excursion I always end up at Sara's checkout line and she could brighten up anybody's day. Don't drive all the way out to the city limits to shop at HD or Lowe's. Well as much as Ace hardware prices are not the best their help almost always is. Went in looking for a siphon or something to get water out of my saturated back yard and the guy there looked all over for something and we finally found a pump that he recommended. Was 69.95 but a lot cheaper than flooding my house. Works good, went to Lowe's earlier bc I though I could find some a little less expensive. I did and it couldn't suck soda through a straw let alone flood water off my patio. So wasted time and now have to return that POS. Should have just sucked it up (pun intended) and went straight to Ace where the help is worth the little bit extra you might pay. Thanks Ace for hiring good knowledgeable people. I just had a rough afternoon of locking myself out of my apartment (no windows, second floor unit). A man named Mike helped me find something to pry my door open, but then took me to the door knob area to show me what to be aware of if I can't get in. He said many door locks have a new safety feature.... and he continued to help me. He helped me with great patience and a genuine joy for helping someone out.
